Thanks, yes Bugsy is the one in the maroon jacket, you can also see him in the Palm Springs footage. My father passed away in 1969, these films were found in Jujuy, Argentina by my cousin in 2005.
Excellent footage, i certainly do think it is Ben "bugsy" Siegel, Johnny roselli and Gus greenbaum with Micheal romanoff and Bruce cabot. We see pictures of bugsy looking well, so people seem to think this isnt him, he was like anyone of us, im sure he had his on days and off days of looking well, the same with putting on the pounds and loosing them again. Even if it isn't Ben Siegel i would say 99.9% the man in the blue jacket who keeps trying to kick people is johnny roselli, without a doubt. it would have been great to show his daughter Millicent siegel this footage to see her thoughts before she passed away in 2017. Great footage all the same.
Wow, I didn't realize that The El Rancho was so historically significant. I just happened to be at my sister's wedding in 2000 and witnessed the demolition of El Rancho with my head sticking out of a window of the adjacent Riviera Casino! Now I've seen the beginning and the end!
I think the one gentleman who was smiling at the camera and then walked away from Benny was Bruce Cabot from the movie king Kong 1933 they were very close friends
Hi. Amazing to see such old footage of Vegas! I am a Norwegian filmmaker, and is making a travel series-pilot about the history of Las Vegas, and i was wondering if it was possible to use some of this footage.
that absolutely is Ben Siegel in the maroon jacket ,if you notice his side profile when he turns his head its an exact match with his mug shot profiles from the twenties.
***** Ben Siegle tried to buy El Rancho before building The Flamingo, but the owner didn't sell it because of Ben's connections to the mafia, as far as I know.
That is Ben Siegel. In this old, hand-held footage he doesn’t add up to the Ben Siegel that we see in glamorous photos. But the hairline is right in place, the smile, the way he holds his head, the way he stands...that is Ben Siegel. No doubt at all.
I disagree. I think there's lots of doubts about it. He looks too out of shape and his suit doesn't fit well. Bugsy was to much of a closed horse to wear a bad fitting suit. Check out all the other photos. He's perfectly dressed
I have only just read yesterday ( July 14, 2022 ) dat da real Flamingo ( Virginia Hill ) wuz SUPPOSEDLY, a homely, THICKISH, kind of a WOman. Lady, n dis footage, does not appear 2 b a homely WOman. Honestly, even @ full brightness, I could not make out her face. 2 much shadow. THICKISH......? Hmmmmm...... I like THICK WOmen, so I wouldn't c dat, azz a dtraction, BUTT dis WOman, iz not overweight! I'm sure of dat!
Bugsy. He planned it, data way. Datz y I think, he wuz a genius! Sum just CLAIM 2 dtest bad guyz, so they can't give him his properz. ( His just due. )
I got news for you, Color film has been around since 1928. It was not used much because it was so expensive. This was done in the 40's and it was high even then 3 times as much as B&W. Color was really perfected in the 60's.
I hate to burst the bubble of PostaProductions1 here but that is so not Bugsy Siegel. Siegel had a strikingly handsome face, piercing blue eyes, an athletic build, and full head of hair. The guy in the maroon jacket has way more pudge on him, a receeding hairline, and lacks the handsome features. Though your father may have met or even socialized with Siegel back in the 40's, especially if was the wealthy playboy that you claim he was. That doesn't, however, mean it's him in the old footage.
Yeah it has yo be Ben, Also ,I notice " Gus Greenbaum" there with the Cigaret in his mouth , Gus was the dude Who right after Ben's murder took over the Flamingo hotel'
In the movie with Warren Beatty as Bugsy Siegel Bugsy meets a violent end. the Flamingo has since gone to be one of the most historical hotels/casinos on the las vegas strip. It has not been imloded like the Dunes, Hacienda or the Riviera yet
The clip with all of them standing around Ben the man to his left was Meyer Lanskey the shadow moves off him for a few seconds and you can see that's him. I don't know who the other men were but i definitely recognised Bugsy and Meyer.
sadly this is no proof that it is Ben Siegel. I am not saying he is not for sure because obviously I was not there, but it simply does not match his published pictures. I have footage of Ben from a rare documentary where he is playing with his kids in a swimming pool. He was fit and nowhere near this pudgy in the 40's. Also, the claims of footage adding weight does not hold weight considering the footage I have seen. He was always fit, and well dressed. This guy is not well dressed. In fact his choice in colors is quite bland for someone as flashy as Siegel. Bugsy was pudgy faced in the 20's, not in the 40's. People are nostalgic and wanna make false claims about Hill, Roselli, etc. Sorry folks.
I actually knew this old jew who knew Ben. Said he was a nice fellow just know who your dealing with and know your place. He also said he could have been a champion boxer. Said he was that nice. And back then boxing was huge everyone knew how to box. So go figure.
That is definitely not Ben Siegel, check the fellas other video out where you get a clearer shot of his face, there's a passing likeness and that's it.
Around 28 ben waves his hands then shoots you lol. Around 38. Johnny reselling invades Ben space ,Ben pivots then he would've blasted him. He Ben what's that in your jacket pocket.the NYPD would've stop n friksed him. Finally Around 1.08 chick playfully tap his chin.it seems Ben didn't like that, so he had him with the left hook then he outboxed him. Remember kids straight n narrow or you soul gets cast into an Irish bar that's always 12 o clock. Sopranos refreence.
there is a video on youtube where bugsy siegel is swimming in his pool with his two daughters. siegel in that video looks a lot slimmer than the siegel in this video. i think if you go to the youtube site where siegel's daughter is being interviewed you see bugsy in his pool in los angeles. i dont think this video is bugsy siegel at all looks totally different from the one with his daughters at the pool.
Relax. It add character to the film, which was late 40's. Nothing was there then in the place they named Las Vegas. It was so damn hot there in the summer they couldn't have made it w/o A/C, another White creation..
Absolutely incredible film clip of the first strip Hotel El Rancho & Bugsy! Thanks for sharing this!
Thanks, yes Bugsy is the one in the maroon jacket, you can also see him in the Palm Springs footage. My father passed away in 1969, these films were found in Jujuy, Argentina by my cousin in 2005.
PostaProductions1 I dealt poker in the 80’s at his first Casino.
@Pasha Morris really
Do you know who anyone else is besides Bugsy? 00:33
@@fenian123 Michael Romanoff, Bruce Cabot and my father Pedro Serramalera Olivé
@@PostaProductions1 Correct me if I'm wrong but I think Siegel is given way too much credit as a Las Vegas pioneer and visionary.
Gosh this has to be rare footage, I thought there was only one video clip available of Bugsy now this makes it two. Thank you for sharing!
If only Bugsy could see Vegas today
True people can say what they want about Bugsy and the Italian mafia but they made Vegas so that was a contribution to American history
Yes sir that was Bugsy u can recognize him anywhere 😎thanks love old videos 👍here in 2020 July CHI-TOWN
My father was an international playboy at that time, my guess is they met in Los Angeles between actresses and parties and took off for Las Vegas

I guess my comment regards the "El Rancho Hotel and Casino" across the street from the location of this footage.
Ben Siegal could have been a great movie Star with his looks it's a pity how it ended for him.
The guy who was in the video was not ben
Thank you for uploading this.
Great video of Benny , Thanks for sharing that one !
I loved this slip! Thank you for sharing..
I think the one gentleman who was smiling at the camera and then walked away from Benny was Bruce Cabot from the movie king Kong 1933 they were very close friends
Totally amazing video! Thank you for posting!
Great stuff.
Sunsrise Mountain (Frenchman's Mountain) of course, looks exactly the same as it did today. Funny how some things change and some don't.
I was looking out for Gass Peak but it wasn’t in this film.

Probably the oldest color film of Vegas on UA-cam - thanx for posting!
Awesome, we hear about vegas but have seen a handful of it's vintage videos.

very cool video thanks for sharing , it's crazy to see Vegas before what it became.
Amazing. In 80 years, what that stretch of highway and empty land has become.

Whoever posted this should clearly label who is who and why they are significant.
That was beautiful
This would have been around 1946. Its historic footage. No doubt.
Color footage from that era? Very rare in home movie grade 8mm film I would suspect?

Cool footage. I wonder what they were talking about there.
Maybe someone can get a lip reader to find out what they were saying like some people have done in the old Nazi films

valerie ehrlich probably won't be imploded any time soon either. They just spent millions on a new steakhouse "Bugsy and Meyers"
Great footage.
interesting. thanks for posting.
Ben "Bugsy" Siegal is the guy in the maroon jacket @:35.
Thanks to the old 8 mm
That was Benny Siegal all the way
Santino--you are 100% correct, that is Ben (Bugsy) Siegel on this historic film!!!
@tommy that's bugsy
also its an amazing video, how did you get it from your dad?
The one in the blue jacket appears to be Johnny Roselli. (Toby N. didn't you notice that?)
Thank you for your information!
Doesn't look like BEN SIEGAL AT ALL.....!
This is definitely not Bugsy Siegel. However it is definitely Johnny Roselli in the video.
Some mob experts have questioned weather this is really him. I have no doubt. Note his hand deep in his right hand pocket.
The important question here is: Is that Virginia Hill?
Sound of film makes it impossible to watch more than 10 seconds.
The clip with all of them standing around Ben the man to his left was Meyer Lanskey the shadow moves off him for a few seconds and you can see that's him. I don't know who the other men were but i definitely recognised Bugsy and Meyer.
Saw that and thought it strange they did not mention it, since he is the most heavy of that group. A true legend who also had a vision .
Oh my, I just know Bugsy as a slim, dapper extremely good looking man. He's quite fat here, standing with the group. Doesn't look dangerous at all.
sadly this is no proof that it is Ben Siegel. I am not saying he is not for sure because obviously I was not there, but it simply does not match his published pictures. Since motion picture camera film HAS NO SOUND, the sound of the camera spring unwinding in this film,, IS DUBBED IN.
Why? I don't know..
This film was made before June 20, 1947, as it was the date Bugsy Siegel was assassinated.
Thank you for the information.
Wow!
I'm not sure about Virginia Hill, the images of her are not clear enough to compare to the pictures found online.
The footage is very well for the early 1940s that camera must have cost some good money back fhen
yes--this film was shot in the summer or fall of 1946...
what year was this filmed.
early 40's

Must have been a cool day for them to stand there in the sun I’m not really worried about the heat

Do you have any information about Bugsy Siegel aside from this video?
No, I don't. Apparently they stop by Arrowhead Spa on the way back to LA, you can see the footage on one of my other videos.
