Just bought a MR556 A1 last month. Always wanted one and now I can say I own another of my bucket guns. I bought the OG Quad from HK parts, slapped an Tan EOTECH EXPS 3-2 with G33 Magnifier, Tan DBAL A3, Tan Surefire Scout light, Tan Tango Down Stubby and Tan Magpul sling. Leaving as a 16 inch for now to see where the whole NFA goes in the next few years, plus it looks pretty sick as is. Can't wait to get a day to head to the range and shoot it, worth every cent!
Just got my MR, and I have been looking for a detailed video with different setup options and by far the best video out there yet. Thank you. Hopefully, a 2nd update video will be in the near future 🙏
It was interesting to recently hear Pat Mac say that when they first got the 416 in the unit they tried them and most went back to the M4. He said the 416 didn't bring anything extra over the M4 and it was heavier and had a less preferable recoil impulse. They started using them exclusively only after the M4s were cycled out of their armories. Concepts and contract requirements are cool but feedback from the professional end users is more interesting. Still a very cool rifle at the end of the day....because it's an H&K.
There was one notable thing about HK416 at the time: it was a free floated quad rail factory rifle. It was very well made. It was well timed in introduction to the market, as shorty AR15s had not been well figured out yet, and the piston worked okay at those short barrel lengths. Ever since normal DI rifles have overcome the issues of short barrels, the gas piston system has been a detriment. Look at the M27 and M38, they're the least reliable rifles the USMC has EVER fielded when suppressed. The ROF, I've clocked at 1400rpm a few times. The bolt life is less than an M4 despite being better constructed because the gas system is unlocking the gun way too fast and way too hard, and all of the barrel lengths at 14.5 or higher have barrels that are a bit too long for the gas system designed for a shortie. The gas system is the same length, but the barrel is plugged by the projectile far, far longer. Pressures are higher in the chamber when it unlocks, the bolt face thrust is higher... it's a vicious cycle. Every problem the M27 has had was EITHER because of the Marine Corps failing at managing the gas piston system OR the gas piston system's fault itself. Specifically, the suppressor and inability to adapt to M855A1. The M27 is a super flawed rifle. I am so obsessed with it though that I'm going to convert an Mr556 to an M27
@@superfamilyallosauridae6505No idea where you got these notions but 99% of them are BS. There were some initial problems during testing that have all been since worked out.
As much as I love HK’s I did 6° of the M27. I turned my LWRC M6IC into a M38 SDMR. The LWRC M6 was a direct competitor to the 416 in both the Army’s Individual Carbine and USMC M27 competitions. I sourced a Leopold. Mk 4 TS-30A2 2.5-8x current issue for the M38; And I have more or less the exact rifle the military would’ve adopted had the LWRC won.
Nothing is done to accurize the M27 for the M38, it is literally an M27 with a sticker and a scope. Which is fine, because they're accurate enough in the first place. Regardless, the best possible rifle the USMC could've adopted at the time wasn't in the trials: The M4A1 Block 2. It would've done literally everything the M27 has ever been asked to do, better. It would've been a better M38 too.
I’d rather have my lwrc than a 416. If I owned the 416 I’d put it in my safe and never let anyone touch it. 😂I have a maxim as well that his the higher rail and kinda looks like. 416 shorty 😂 but it’s definitely not but still bad ass. Comparing psa to any of the brands mentioned here is a troll😂
Once again, you are incorrect. German laws directly prohibit export of items they categorize as weapons of war. In the US, this prevents H&K USA from importing a wide range of items for US commercial purchase, including barrels, trigger housings, etc. The information I provided is accurate, whether you agree with it or chose to believe it to be so.
Anyone who speaks german can literally read the regulations themselves 😂. German politicians even bitch about export of ANY weapons to the USA given the shootings problem. Idiots who think HK is at fault are insane
Getting into the BRN416, and just doing a bit of research into the platform, the rabbit hole goes insanely far down on what people have found out about the 416/MR556 platform. The biggest thing is that the HK416 is probably the most popular clone rifle next to GWOT M4s, and people will pay out the ass for very specific parts for their clone build.
This is so cool. Can’t wait for the M110A1 that will be sick. I made a g28 “inspired clone “ out of a mr762 that I use as a dmr or battle rifle. That thing runs amazing.
I had a Sig 516 cut down to 10.3” it was sweet but then brownells introduced the BRN-4 I sold the 516 upper and assembled a 10.4” 416 clone with a HK manufactured stripped upper it’s 👌 I think the 416 looks better than the 516 even though the 516 probably performs better with the adjustable gas regulator. Now if brownells would release the clone lowers they’re working on!!
Loved Watching this. That HK armorer knows his stuff. I bought my MR 556A1 about 3 years ago and absolutely love it. I outfited it with a Vortex Razor Gen II E, Surefire scout M600 DF, and a Magpul CTR. shoots sub 1" with run of the mil green tip. I have over 2k rounds through it, 0 malfunctions, and have shot it out to 400 meters. It shoots very smooth and is a little heavier but I know it will never fail me.
My friend just bought an MR762 and that thing is fun to shoot, money well spent in my opinion and he has no regrets as well. You get what you pay for as far as reliability and accuracy

Classic quad handguard is 👑. Just need the S&S Precision 416-specific light mount. This makes me want a MR556 though I’ve snobbishly thought only a real 416 upper would do
Good luck spending 6k on a used upper and ifnyou want brand new good luck gonna get a call from your bank and your home bout to be foreclosed lol. A brand new 416 upper is 14-25,000 according to hk parts
@Chris09978 Right. I would just go used PD trade-in, but those are like $6K. My problem is paying that much for the used upper when the whole rifle goes for $1800 or so. Nonetheless, 'tis the game.
Would buy a military contract Sig 516 upper, next evolution of the HK design from the same designer. Adjustable gas piston and gassed better and cheaper with a chrome lined barrel.
Harder to find, though, it's been years since Sig discountiuned the 516. Parts for it is going to be a huge fucking pain in the ass to find. Also I think the modern or update 516 sig us the sig spear 556 or the mcx

Did you just cut your barrel? Or actually have it re-profiled as well? The re-profile is where the real change happens. I had mine done at IGF years back and it was wonderful work. BTW, James is the man!
What he said about the muzzle device coming off with the suppressor makes no sense because it is physically impossible. The huxwrx muzzle devices are 1/2x28 right hand thread while the suppressors themselves are left hand thread. The action of taking off the suppressor will tighten the muzzle device to the barrel; the action of putting on the suppressor will loosen the muzzle device. So in conclusion, either your muzzle device was not torqued on properly or the shoulder of your barrel is messed up. You should not need to rocksett your muzzle devices because you should be using torque.
Wish ya'll would've explained why the nitriding is better than chrome. Too many people think they need chrome; when it's only good for full auto dumps.
I have the 416, 10" I have the MP5...yes, that MP5. And my wife loves to shoot and go full auto. was not cheap though and Germany is very strict on exports. HK produces in the US>

33:40 you literally have to drop an ar from like 2 stories perfectly on the muzzle to get a accidental discharge from a fall 😂 . Thats if it's even chambered and off safety
@1911 Syndicate, why don't you just go and buy a used 416 upper from someone off of HKPro? Sure they are expensive, but IF you can have an SBR, then do it. They are "plug-n-play" with HK MR556A1 Lower receivers
Maybe I'm just some prick on the internet but, After seeing some of the Gun Shops in Europe(Countries outside of Germany) and their selections of H&K Products I don't buy this nonsense about exporting or at the very least that HK's hands are completely tied. CR223's have made there way out here and B&T was able to import Heanel's German Made Pistol Copies of the 416. HK could find a way to satisfy the US market more if they wanted to.
Where did yoy get those handguard wraps, they look really neat, where are they from cause i know you guys said on the vid that its from MFT, did a google search on them and all it popped up was the stocks or distrubutors nit so much of the actual manufacute site

Will those take the G rails?
To me a clear reason would be we should be able to have full auto capability
Was the gas port on the barrel modified on the 10.4 barrel?
LMT laughs at the lot you !
33:40 you literally have to drop an ar from like 2 stories perfectly on the muzzle to get a accidental discharge from a fall 😂 . Thats if it's even chambered and off safety
Excellent other guys reference Jake
I don’t have to worry about any of that. I’m unmarried and childless. I can be as irresponsible as I want.
Send it
If you cut the barrel down to a 14.5” with no intentions of using a suppressor, do you need to change the gas system or will it run reliably as is?
I haven’t tested that but I’m confident you’d be fine with the standers gas block
@1911 Syndicate, why don't you just go and buy a used 416 upper from someone off of HKPro? Sure they are expensive, but IF you can have an SBR, then do it. They are "plug-n-play" with HK MR556A1 Lower receivers
Yeah I totally want a 15lb ar15
It was right around 8-9lbs maybe 9.5 max. Did someone say it was 15lbs? If so that’s a mistake our bad.
Sig Spear LT is the new HK 416.
Similar. But different
It’s PISSTON driven, made me buy it^^
I don’t have a wife but I do have a mr762 that I’m about 10k into…. coincidence 😂 idk maybe
I'd like to see it compared to an LMT MARS-L Piston.
Where did yoy get those handguard wraps, they look really neat, where are they from cause i know you guys said on the vid that its from MFT, did a google search on them and all it popped up was the stocks or distrubutors nit so much of the actual manufacute site
