I’m glad I’m not the only one blown away with how deep Guns N’ Roses songs are.

And being mindblown and jaw dropped and wide eyed and looking at each other in the first G, C, and E notes is too much

The song is not based on a true story per se or at least not the loss of a bandmate. The idea for the song came about when one of its writers, guitarist Izzy Stradlin, was dating a girl who Axl Rose happened to also be in love with also. When she and Izzy broke up, she told Axl that she could no longer be associated with him, either. Accordingly, he was heartbroken and the words of comfort she gave him were “don’t cry”.
The video is full of metaphors for real-life issues - The frozen man at the beginning is representative of a person stuck in a time/place. The scene where Axl appears as though he’s going to commit suicide is based on a real-life event where he was truly on the verge of taking his own life. It was a reenactment of an event that actually took place when his former girlfriend - later to be his wife for a short period of time - Erin Everly thwarted his suicide attempt. The woman in the video was Axl's girlfriend at the time, supermodel Stephanie Seymour. The drowning man with his girlfriend "anchoring" his legs is fighting for his life against something or someone who is pulling him down. And so on. The added scenes with Duff having a bottle thrown at his guitar by an angry girlfriend, and Slash driving off of the cliff with his girlfriend in the car are all kind of representative of the destructive rock and roll lifestyle and bad relationships. There is so much that can be read into the video, but I suggest you try to find the "documentary" of the making of the Don't Cry video. The entire song and video are explained in much more detail. Thank you for reacting to this song. It's one of my all-time favorite GnR songs ever!

Not true, watch the video for Don’t cry. Axl says in an interview in it that it’s based on a true story!

I've just found this video, I had no idea you did a reaction to this song. 'Don't Cry' is the first of a trilogy of videos/songs that GN'R did from their Use Your Illusion albums, the other two being 'November Rain' and 'Estranged'. Their deep cut 'Coma' was going to be part of this series but was ultimately left without a video, it's also a favourite of many a GN'R fan. The second, 'November Rain' is loosely based on the short story by Del James called 'Without You'.

Thank God they used a 66 mustang fastback and painted it to look like a Shelby gt350. Hub cap falling off is a dead give away. GT350 did not have hub caps... Fastback did.

I have a music track I'd like you to check out and I'm willing to bet you won't have heard of it.😁It's called "Shard of Ice" by the Russian band "Aria" and the song is from the year 2002.🤘I want to see your reaction to that one, but it has to be a first listening, no cheating and having a sound peek first.😅 Unfortunately the original video clip was filmed with a potato, it was like 480p, so I have personally remixed it plus added lyrics/subtitles in both Russian & English and reuploaded it onto my channel to give it a fighting chance of getting more listens among a Western audience. Plus I think the reaction will be better as my version is in 4k quality.
Now as you probably know, I can't put a direct link here in the comments or our UA-cam overlords will flag it for spam and it'll get deleted. It's currently the sixth one down on my youtube channel but I will be adding more vids so that is going to change in future.
To help you find it the title is:
"Shard of Ice, by Aria. A progressive Russian rock ballad.🤯With English subtitles / translation."
(if you do decide to do a reaction video all I ask is a link back to my video because that contains links to the band and where to buy the track if people like it...)
