My personal take on this song and the video is that it’s about how we fall in love and how everything is new , bright and happy during that time … Thus the wedding and the sunny day is a metaphor for that love and happiness while the love lasts however long …. Then the Skies darken and the rain starts , followed by the funeral which is the metaphor for the Death or dying of that once thought of forever love they shared. As the song lyrics say , “ nothing last forever, even cold November Rain “ … That’s my view on it as it played out like this video in my real life experience. I was married to the woman I loved with all my heart on a beautiful sunny November day … and after a mostly loved filled marriage of 8 years , somehow we both let that love DIE and we were divorced on a cold and rainy November Day and thus this song will always remind me that “ nothing last forever, even cold November Rain “
"Nothing lasts forever even cold November rain" represents the fact love and happiness will come to an end at some point but so will the bad times that put you down

According to Wikipedia this video was inspired by Del James's short story "Without You", for which he is credited in the long version of the video. The short story portrays a rock star struggling to come to terms with the loss of his girlfriend, who died by suicide (gunshot) after he repeatedly strayed from their relationship. November Rain is one of the most expensive music videos ever.
This video is based on the story and the story is based on the life of Axl Rose. One hypothesis that we fans consider a lot is that he killed his wife in the video, he leaves a gun store with his hand in his pocket
Mikado you are correct. November Rain is not a stand-alone video but a part of trilogy (Don’t Cry, November Rain, Estranged) which is based on the short story “Without You” by Del James, a friend of Axl Rose and the road manager for Guns N' Roses.
Based on the short story “Without You” by Del James. From IMDB, “The video portrays Rose marrying his then-girlfriend Stephanie Seymour, inter-cut with a live performance in a theater. It is one of the most expensive music videos ever. Slash is prominently featured in some of the video's most memorable scenes, including a sequence of helicopter shots swooping around him as he plays the first guitar solo and a later scene where he plays the third solo while standing on Rose's piano onstage. The video for "November Rain" uses the full version of the song as opposed to an abridged version. Since the video was shot in winter, there were no good-looking fields around, and eventually the band decided to use a church in New Mexico. As stated at the end of the video, "November Rain" is based on the short story "Without You" by Del James, available in his 1995 book The Language of Fear. The story concerns a rock star grieving over the death of his on-and-off-again girlfriend, who had committed suicide (inspired by Rose's troubled relationship with Erin Everly).”
It is part of trilogy, this story Without You from Del James inspires the video clip of November Rain, Estranged and Don't Cry songs, you need to watch that in this order to see the full story.
Through Slash (lead guitarist, the guy with the hat) I got to know the love for the Gibson Les Paul. So I started to switch from the Spanish concert guitar to the electric guitar. When I was 15, my grandparents gave me my first Les Paul for my birthday. For me, Guns N' Roses is first and foremost Slash with his brilliant solos.
There's 3 songs make the story. Don't cry...about a rockstar and his girlfriends rocky relationship November rain...there marriage and her death Estranged....how he copes after her death. All 3 songs and video's are great
This song is good on it's own, but what makes it great is Slash's dissonant 3rd solo. The contrast he shows in it in relation to the story of the song just sends it into another gear.
November Rain is not a stand-alone video but a part of a trilogy (Don’t Cry, November Rain, Estranged) which is based on the short story “Without You” by Del James, a friend of Axl Rose and the road manager for Guns N' Roses. The bride in the video discovers her husband has been cheating so she commits suicide by shooting herself in the head hence the split casket.
Hey Debbie, I also grew up with Guns N' Roses and all this time I figured that at least in their home country surely just about everyone knows this great song of theirs, but you kinda proved me wrong, haha. Anyway, I looked it up and found the story behind the video and the song, so here it goes (it's pretty long, btw): What Is Guns N' Roses' 'November Rain' Video REALLY About? Like it or not, Guns N' Roses' 1992 video for "November Rain" is one of the most popular music videos of all time. In fact, it just became the very first rock video from the '90s to surpass 2 billion views on UA-cam. But there's still a lot of mystery surrounding the storyline, so we're going to break it down. As noted at the end of the video, it's based on a short story called "Without You," which was written by Del James for his 1995 book The Language of Fear. James is a longtime friend of the band and currently still works with them on tour. He wrote "Without You" based on Axl Rose's relationship with Erin Everly, whom he was married to in 1990. "The 'Without You' story came about on a night where Axl called me, when he was still living with his girlfriend - who later on became his wife - Erin Everly, at about 4:00 in the morning and said, 'Dude, you have to come over here,'" James said during the November Rain: Makin' F@*!ing Videos documentary [via Appetite for Discussion], which came out on VHS in 1993. "Essentially, the short story is about a rock star, who was inspired by Axl, who writes a song called 'Without You' about the woman who he loves but he can’t really have." The rock star character in "Without You" is Mayne, and Elizabeth is the name of the woman he loved. The events of the "November Rain" video don't line up perfectly with the sequence of "Without You," but there are certain scenes that reference different parts of the story. Toward the end of the music video, viewers discover that Rose's wife, portrayed by Stephanie Seymour, dies - but no one in the Guns camp ever actually confirmed how. After James wrote the story "Without You" and showed it to Rose, the singer wrote his own version of the song "Without You," which became "Estranged." And you'll notice that the final two words of the final verse are, coincidentally, "Without you." "It’s based around a song that this guy writes when it’s over in his relationship and what happens. And I wrote that song, you know? And I wasn’t even planning it - after I wrote it, I call Del and I go, 'Del, I wrote the song for it.' And I had never planned on that. I never even thought of that. It just ended up fitting together, and I was on a different track, but the two came together," Rose said during November Rain: Makin' F@*!ing Videos. "Before the Illusions [albums] came out, there was talk of actually developing 'Without You' into full length feature movie. Due to logistics, that hasn’t been able to be a reality," James noted. "So what has happened is that there’s, like, kind of a condensed version of the story in the visuals. 'Don’t Cry' segues into 'November Rain,' which hopefully, if there’s time, will be 'Estranged' - you know, the third part of it, and it’ll all kind of make sense and we’ll tell this pretty heavy tale." Shortly after Seymour was cast in the video for "Don't Cry," which came out before "November Rain," she and Rose started a romantic relationship. But the couple broke up in 1993 before they started filming "Estranged," which was the final video of the trilogy, and was supposed to continue portraying the sequence events in "Without You," so there were dolphins and other surreal moments in the "Estranged" video instead. "We had intended to make the sequel or the follow-up and the conclusion of 'November Rain.' Things changed, plans changed," Rose said in The Making of Estranged: Part IV of the Trilogy. Thus, you have to read "Without You" to really understand the nature of the "November Rain" video. But we compared the scenes of the video to the events of the story, so keep reading to learn more. WARNING: Spoilers and excerpts from 'Without You' ahead. "Without You" starts with a nightmare Mayne has about watching a woman he's in love with - Elizabeth - dance around gracefully before shooting herself in the head. He wakes up in a panic, and it's revealed that he has this nightmare often, as if it's haunting him. He has bottles of alcohol, drugs and cigarettes on his nightstand, which are shown next to Rose's bed in "November Rain," though he doesn't actually wake up from the nightmare until the end of the video, which implies that all of the events in the video were part of a dream. "'November Rain' is a part of this story and shows different elements of this story. And I don’t really want to say where in line it falls, but it does show me going to bed and waking up on the nightmare at different points in the video," Rose teased during November Rain: Makin' F@*!ing Videos. Mayne and Elizabeth never married, according to "Without You." Since Rose and Seymour's characters wed in "November Rain," it can be inferred that this was also part of Rose's dream that he awakens from at the end of the video. There are a couple of times during the video where Seymour looks unhappy, as if she were upset about the marriage or her relationship in general. Though it's unclear why, in "Without You," we learn that Elizabeth caught Mayne having an affair in a hotel room after one of his band's concerts, and that he'd had many others. "She’d set free inner feelings that he’d often tried avoiding. Her beauty, both inner and physical, was something he wanted, yet when she was his, he did everything conceivable to lose her. The biggest mystery that remains behind "November Rain" is how Seymour's character died. As previously mentioned, the cause has never actually been confirmed by anyone, but James and Rose's comments during the November Rain: Makin' F@*!ing Videos documentary insinuate that she died the same way Elizabeth did in "Without You" - a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. The mirror in the casket in the video also supports this reasoning, as split caskets are often used when the deceased person sustained head trauma. "I can't tell you, but it's just a horrible mess," Rose said with a smirk. "If we would have not had this split casket, it would have been disgusting. We didn't want to offend any child viewer's eyes." "He removed the pistol from her hand and put it against his temple. He was going to join her. It was empty. Elizabeth had known she would only need one bullet." We're never really told why Rose walks past a gun store in "November Rain," but in "Without You," we know that Mayne keeps one in his safe. He often thinks about using it to end his life, but instead, uses it to shoot the platinum albums hanging on his wall in a fit of rage. "He held the silver-plated pistol in awe. He could easily join Elizabeth; all it would take was one quick squeeze of the trigger. The idea appealed to him. Maybe he'd get it right in his next life. Slowly, eyes closed, he raised the pistol. The trigger teased his scarlet index finger. The barrel felt good against his temple. Readying himself, he reopened his eyes." Though "Without You" tells the story of Mayne's despair after the death of Elizabeth, and his eventual fate as well, the story is really about the ballad "Without You" that the rocker had written for her. The story mentions it several times - he grows flustered when he hears it on the radio, not only because it reminds him of Elizabeth, but because she had it playing on repeat when he found her dead. At the end of the story, a lit cigarette falls off Mayne's nightstand and ignites his bedroom as he destroys the inside of his apartment and all of his beloved guitars. Eventually, he decides to sit and play "Without You" for Elizabeth as his entire apartment becomes engulfed in flames, with him in it. "All he'd ever wanted to do with his life was play his music and now he was. For the moment, he felt free from his demons. He built up the courage and began singing 'Without You' in his natural gruff voice. The thick carpeting quickly became a wall-to-wall inferno as a giant wave of fire rose up and spread around the piano. He couldn't have cared less. As flames swallowed the apartment, Mayne never screamed and never missed a note." Source: Loudwire
Good song. That guitar solo is epic! I preferred their first album since it had more edge to it...they were already becoming a commercial juggernaut by this point. Nothing wrong with that though....it sure made them huge stars, that's for sure. Too bad they imploded soon after this period...if they stayed a cohesive unit, who knows what they would have done. Girl, this video traumatized a generation. She unfortunately took her life shortly after the wedding. The lyrics speak about people who love each other, but there is an underlying feeling of despair and dissatisfaction. Even in the video once you know the ending, you can watch her expressions and see something about her is off. Thus the self medicating he is doing at the start of the video.
I always read the video that during the reception a heavy rain happened and she became sick and passed away from the illness. Not sure it’s correct but it helps me sleep at night.
OMG!!! What an unbelievable theory. Bloody hell, where do ye guys spring out of? And as for sleeping at night, she's not actually really dead. Its just a music video. So when you're struggling to sleep at night, she's tucked up in bed sleeping soundly......STILL ALIVE
@@jamesryan1147 Really? you woke up today and chose to be like this? I never said she was really dead it was the lack of information that would bother me. I would recommend you take a moment and breathe.
I prefer the bootleg-version I found after I bought Appetite when it came out. It has the same grit like all the songs on Appetite. Thought they lost something in the production on the Use your illusion-albums.
In case you're wondering about transition from wedding to her funeral, it is based on a short story about how a rock star's wife kills herself. Couldn't handle the lifestyle and all the "side" women of her husband.
You need some 'mental floss' after that video. Go back to Home Free. LOL. They're always good for a smile. .... and if you're 52, I'm the King of England.
I recommend checking out Anastasia by Slash and Myles Kennedy: ua-cam.com/video/bC8EmPA6H6g/v-deo.html Myles is a great vocalist, and he can sound similar to Axel, but better.
Saw these guys with Metallica. It was the best concert ever! Then Guns n' Roses came on and the lead singer kept yelling at fans and screwing up the lyrics. Worst concert ever! Left during this song because it was my favourite and he butchered it. Anyways, it was a night out. lol
Kudos! You are absolutely right. The video is totally f'd up. There's no meaning, don't worry. The band is f'd up. The N number of millions who liked the video are f'd up. There's no explanation why the f. the girl is dead. Besides the fact that the Guns'N'Roses, the director, the producer and so on and so forth are all f'd up, Great reaction. Like and subscribe.
What are you on about. If you spent less time tweeting or looking into your phone during the video, you may actually notice all the subtle things in the video. Its plain as day. Then again, trying to explain those things to a moron like you would be just a waste of my precious time
My personal take on this song and the video is that it’s about how we fall in love and how everything is new , bright and happy during that time … Thus the wedding and the sunny day is a metaphor for that love and happiness while the love lasts however long …. Fun and meaningless fact. The title of this song was originbally called Sweet Lorraine.
🎉🎉🎉
There is a fallowing video called extranged that finished the story
didnt know they were correlated. thanks for sharing
AquaNet if you know you know 😉😉😎😎
I prefer the bootleg-version I found after I bought Appetite when it came out. It has the same grit like all the songs on Appetite. Thought they lost something in the production on the Use your illusion-albums.
Let me halp. It says says based on the short story without you by del James. Axel’s buddy.
2nd of the trilogy.
In case you're wondering about transition from wedding to her funeral, it is based on a short story about how a rock star's wife kills herself. Couldn't handle the lifestyle and all the "side" women of her husband.

This is what happens, when people don't do a little background of what their reaction too....( Before it )...
You need some 'mental floss' after that video. Go back to Home Free. LOL. They're always good for a smile.
.... and if you're 52, I'm the King of England.
How did you miss this on mtv?
We weren’t allowed to watch mtv! I would sneak and watch some things

He was having a nightmare
Kinda. He was reliving some moments from his past.
@@jamesryan1147 true
I think they were competing with Metsllica and did weird stuff too. Just my opinion
Wow!!! That's some opinion. I need to let that settle into my brain for quite some time
Well, he used to love her, but he had to kill her.
Your 52 , that's impossible! You look 32
I recommend checking out Anastasia by Slash and Myles Kennedy: ua-cam.com/video/bC8EmPA6H6g/v-deo.html Myles is a great vocalist, and he can sound similar to Axel, but better.
If you know the band then you know this song or your lying
I didn’t know the song. It’s really that simple.
The girl was supposed to have been killed in the stampede of people trying to get out of the rain.
What are you on about. If you spent less time tweeting or looking into your phone during the video, you may actually notice all the subtle things in the video. Its plain as day. Then again, trying to explain those things to a moron like you would be just a waste of my precious time
I like the song the video is awful
This dude said bon jovi 😂
