I did that with a high brass 12 gauge shell cut off at the brass and sharpened it up with a file back in the 80s. Cut wads out of cardboard by hand and they worked just fine!!! Might start doing it again!!!!
And now i have one many thanks to Greg at tattv. I sent that message and the next day he messaged back and I had one in no time it turned up no problems and super fast. I have used it already and must say it's the best quality piece of kit that's perfect for my cork fillers. I have a few more materials to try but so far this die is awsome. Well done Greg top work many thanks.
Thanks, Timothy. I'm kind of bummed Winter is here as it limits my ability to test things but on the flip side it leaves me more time to work on designs.
@@TATVCanada I use cork to separate the Black Powder charge from the filler of corn grits, and then insert .585 lead round ball. The grits cradle the round ball and a layer of Civil War type homemade lube(beef tallow, beeswax, olive oil)seals the top to hold the ball in place and lube the bore with each shot fired. I only load round ball or minie bullets to shoot in my Sniders.
ive never had an issue filling space with more lead... example 8 /00 shot fill the space with #8 even used #4, more lead , more better... the only time ive used "filler" is a roll crimp and maybe a thin bit of cardboard.
Depending on how far you wanna take your designs you could get the punch hardened or even case hardened and a hardned steel bushing inset into the body, and like you said angled or dished out punches are going to work a lot better
Just my opinion now,and I do like this.Thread the top, this way I/we could add a pan to catch the wads.A nut would be used to secure said pan. Now....where do I get one?
I originally designed it so that you could put a margarine container or something like that over the top but the thread/nut is a really good idea. The only problem with using a pan, is that without a lid these things sometimes flying, heh. Still, I think I'll explore adding that to the finished product. Thanks so much for the suggestion! Once I feel like the product is totally ready with all the bugs worked out, I will post something on UA-cam about how to order one.
Great idea. Keep the videos coming. I’m interested in reloading for my shotgun and would appreciate any insight and ideas you may want to share. Thank you!
Very cool! I am interested in 12, 20, & .410 Also.. it would be really awesome to have one in 11 gauge. The 12ga Braz-tech all brass shells & smooth bore muzzleloaders loaders require 11ga wads. How well does this punch on leather? Leather makes great over powder wads. Thanks for the video....
I actually just finished sending off my prototype designs to the manufacturer for the 20 and 410 models. Once they are completed and I have a chance to put them through their paces, they should be ready for sale either late Winter or early Spring. I've never tried them with leather but I can't imagine it would be a problem.
Very nice- I look forward to seeing how the sharper punch performs. I have some .020" and .030" clear polycarbonate sheet if you'd like me to send you some.
If you wanted to improve the system, perhaps a thread above the cutter, so that your card container can be held down by a nut. LIke the others, I might be interested in buying a tool like this.
You're actually the second viewer to suggest this. I love(d) the idea however the manufacturer I've been dealing with indicated it would dramatically increase the production costs.
Yes indeed I have and it worked well. I've tried the 1/4" as well. One of the reasons I made this tool is because I reload so many slugs and I was going through a ton of nitros and cork wads. Both are hard to find here in bulk, and as I was using 2+ in every shell it was getting expensive.
It's really cold here right now (like -2C) so I probably won't do much PC'ing until spring. I may pull the kerosene heater out and warm up the shop to do some casting as part of a roundball mould test; if I do I will probably try some PC again at the same time.
Nothing's for sale yet as I'm still working on the design but when I'm finished I will have 12G and 20G for sure. I suspect I will do a .410 as well just because they're so blood expensive to buy factory.
I've begun the process of obtaining manufacturing quotes however I'm currently recovering from pneumonia so it will likely be April before anything is ready. Once I've got my voice back there will be some video updates on progress. Thanks for your interest!
The final sample of the finished product (12G) should be shipping to me next week; I'll be posting an update once it's arrived and I'm satisfied with the quality.
@@TATVCanada hi I'm interested in one too I just started loading 12 gauge and 20 gauge shotshell I do other reloading on metallic cartridge is just starting the twelve and twenty days so keep me up to date

Thanks Mike, glad to hear it's serving you well.
Looks great. Would be interested in buying when and if you decide to supply.
That's cool!
Thanks very much, Taofledermaus. Say 'Hi' to Officer Greg, Doug and poor Stretch Armstrong for me ;)
The final version is finished, you can check it out here: ua-cam.com/video/FyDQRUyzo3Y/v-deo.html
Very nice I like it looking forward for more video I would like to purchase one when finished
Glad to hear you find it interesting; I'm never quite certain what people want more of and what they're sick of.
I’m a tool and gadget man always looking forward to new things 😊
Very well done sir and yes I believe we're all interested in to seeing what's your creative mind is come up with
Thanks, Timothy. I'm kind of bummed Winter is here as it limits my ability to test things but on the flip side it leaves me more time to work on designs.
Great video and excellent narration and/or editing!
Thank you, sir.
Awesome! I’ve never loaded for shotgun, but now I want to just to use your new stuff.
LoB, loading shotgun is the best! You can make so many different kinds of shells with a single stage press and the right components.
Very nice, I like cork and cracker/cereal box material for loading my 577 Snider hulls.
Do you use it for overshot or as filler wadding?

How do i get the punch die kit from to do that not seen anything like it before but need one.

Some cardboard for wet strength (12/24 pack cans) is impregnated with plastic. That might be better for overshot.
I've seen people add wax to it for the same purpose. I like the idea of it being biodegradable so I'm not leaving as much plastic junk in the woods.
.excellent wad cutter punch for hand press. Do you have any for sale? Thank you

For my 12 gauge muzzleloader, I've used a 3/4" hold punch and a hammer for years with no complaints.
Very nice- I look forward to seeing how the sharper punch performs. I have some .020" and .030" clear polycarbonate sheet if you'd like me to send you some.
I may take you up on that when I'm reading to do some more testing.
Do that- the .030" should make nice overshot discs.
Nice job
Please let us know when we can buy this from you and one in 20 gauge. Most exelent video.
Nothing's for sale yet as I'm still refining the design, but 20G is my favorite shotshell so I imagine there'll be one in that size at some point.
Я сделал этот прибор в 410 калибре!!! Спасибо вам за идею!!!

Love to see a 6 cavity, 147 gr ( 9MM ) mold with out lube groves for powder coating !
I'm still working on roundball mould designs but when I've got those done I'll definitely be moving into bullets as well.
Looking forward to it ! Again well done........
Have you tried the 1/8 " cork under a Lee slug ? I was wondering if it works as well as the 1/8 " nitro card .
Hook me up so I.m not buying 20 ga. nitro cards for my 12 ga. Lee slugs.
The ending scene set up looks like its straight out of how its made
