TATV Canada, Funny you should ask, I had filmed it with my phone (the wrong way!) And when I went to re-view it I found I had somehow previously deleted it! Ha ha God damn it, Well I was thinking about re-shooting the video Non grandpa style anyway. All my videos are ten years old but I will post a vid soon, did you see my stream engine?
I use a 12ga Officer barrel segment, sharpened, and fitted to a 3ton Arbour Press Ram. The anvil is a piece of Endgrain Aussie Hardwood ( Red Gum) For wad stock I use waxed corrugated cardboard ( chiller boxes for Vegetables), which gives a moisture proof and self sealing over powder wad ( both star crimp and Rollcrimp) for Short (30mm) Starter Gun blanks ( Rowing races, Surf Boat comps, small yacht/boat races etc) Same wad for Film and Theatre Blanks, usually 70mm or 50mm cases. DocAV AVBFilmGuns Australia.
I worked in a machine shop there was a couple dusty press's in the back,... with tools attached,.. you could punch out any diameter. This is something Lee should have designed. I would just use a drill press,.... and a golf shaft and a zip wheel to cut the shaft at the proper diameter. You would put the drill press on the slowest speed. Cut the shaft at the right diameter so as the big end is chucked in the press. you turn the shaft against a belt sander and it gets razor sharp,.... the run the zip wheel across it a couple times creating gaps or teeth,.. then begin cutting your wads. Or take a 3/4 drill bit drill through a 1/2 steel piece clamp it in place. Then remove the drill bit and on the flat end yo sand it to a sharp 90 degree edge you chuck the bit in back wards and press the handle down to cut discs. You choose your diameter with a drill chart,...I make them for a muzzloading shotgun so their larger.
Nicely done..! That's awesome for those using .65 filler wads. Have you considered making sizes like .71 for over powder cards and those not using a plastic wad? Thanks for the video..
I'm looking for a tool like this but for slitting wads. I checked your website but you didn't have anything or at least I didn't see anything. Are you currently working on any gadgets for slitting wads that will work in a press like this??
@@TATVCanada okay. Thank you so much for the reply. I recently ordered some of your gadgets from your website. I'm excited to be able to use them. Thanks again.
copper pipe on top to make collection tube. maybe larger diameter at the base near the shell holder raise punch into die then slide pvc tube over ram so it dosnt lower down passed the die so no one pops out of the die and rams it bk in to the base of the die
Thank you very much, I appreciate the feedback. Load development is coming, I'm just way, wayyyy behind right now. Fair bit of overtime at work and we're stuck in the same heatwave you folks are which makes it really miserable to film outdoors.
It would probably depend on the material you're using. Bear in mind as well that adding an over-powder card like this could potentially alter ballistics and pressure in your shell.
Unfortunately a CNC lathe capable of the tolerances these parts need is out of my price range so I've contracted with another company to manufacture the finished product.
Right now the only size available is 12G, with 20G likely coming down the pipe at some point. I highly doubt I'll ever have a 45 as there just doesn't seem to be any demand for it. If you can find 24 friends who want the same thing, let me know.
Apparently the seller is no longer filling orders, or at least we were never able to get a reply. I suppose COVID has shut them down which is too bad. For those that need to punch your own cards, check out Overshot Wads the Easy Way by Barry Declined and do it the way he shows 2:00 into the video. When the owner couldn't buy the TATV press, he had me buy a punch. For 20 ga. the General Tools 1280-O Hollow Steel Punch from Amazon in 5/8" when used like in the Barry Decline video works amazingly! I hope this helps someone else, and TATV is back after COVID. Stay safe.
Well, the two of us that tried to order never got anything other than emails saying you would get back with us, but we never got an invoice or a shipment. It's your business and you are are well within your right to run it anyway you see fit. We were just really needed the dies, were never able to buy, and therefore had to make other arrangements. I was only passing along the information in an attempt to help others who may have had the same issue and needed a workaround.
TATV Canada thx. Is your online site operational now? 2 months ago I placed an order but it didn’t seem to work, PayPal did not debit the money either.
A fair question to ask. It's priced in USD because my manufacturing and brokerage costs are all priced in USD. By keeping the price in the same currency vs CAD, it saves me having to constantly adjust my sale price to match the fluctuations in the USD/CAD exchange rate.
Would be even better if I didn't need 12, 20 and 410 while they are $100 each. Guess I'll be sticking with the cutter I made from 50BMG brass and find something that'll work for the other two sizes I need.
Ironically, I have been at work. I'm a business atty in Yakima, scurrying about helping people with contracts and starting businesses, etc. Hence the lack of videos. I suppose I could try to make a video today that's talky more than prop and setup based. I have a few scripted out, but not shot or edited.
I just filmed three on saturday, and hopefully you will see the better of them on 'Bacon's channel shortly. One of the others mentions you, but that was just based on subject matter. I need to finish the edit so I can upload that. The final one is just in case of YT shenanigans.
Well I'm glad to hear you're still in the game; there are fewer and fewer channels worth watching these days... You need to show some more of that Magma caster; that thing is amazing. Have you ever tried modifying any molds for it to make HP's? I've read a lot about it but it sounds like you really need to have your alloy spot on for that to work, and I'm a strictly WW man.
Generating the CAD files is the easy part. I spent a lot of time measuring and designing, the metal prototypes (of which there were three) were $400 each, and it took many, many hours of testing. That doesn't include all the equipment costs, shipping and importation/brokerage fees.
love it when people see a need for something useful and then go ahead and design it and make it!
