Had an 04 TDI beetle that I did a VNT17/22 hybrid, tune, intake, EGR delete, and turbo back straight pipe...fun little car after that! I had too many projects and got rid of it. I wish I had kept it to put the TDI in a Suzuki Sami for offroading.
Thanks for the heads-up about Xman! I ordered his 15/17 hybrid for the stockish resurrection of my '00 Jetta sedan, along with rebuilt injectors with DLC1019 nozzles from DBW, EGR cooler delete, 3 bar MAP, etc. Hoping to fire it up and do some preliminary configuration this weekend, and the full Malone tune on Monday. Sorry I'm late to this one Austin. I wish I had your vast TDI knowledge. I could really use it right about now. Great job of showing the removal. You were able to show way more than I thought you would. Especially going over the top of the motor.
If you load the tap up with grease, it will catch and hold most of the metal chips while also lubricating the tap. Then follow with your steps of insuring there’s no metal chips inside.

nice EGR off, have the same in my golf4, same engine; U don't need this plastic sphere, it's vacuum accumulator for extinguishing flap(?) which was on EGR so it's expendable.... 😶🌫

It actually has the same size turbo as yours currently, although i've replaced every single suspension component/bushings/coiloverrs and now all that's finished I have a GTB2262VKLR and injectors to go in to hopefully make 300whp : )
I purchased the mild upgrade of a vnt15/17 from xman after watching this video. My Vnt-15 had finally had enough so it was perfect timing. Dropped off my ECU at Malone this afternoon to be picked up tomorrow. Kinda kicking myself in the head for not going bigger but I wanted to retain my ridiculously good fuel mileage.. I have full pd150 Tip kit, deletes, 2.5 turbo back, south bend ect. I want to upgrade to the DLC 1019s but having a hard time pulling the trigger at around $700cad. Well see what the stock injectors can do.. Never had a tune before ! Thanks for the advice on xman turbos brosk
How do u jack up ur car without bending up tbe underbody i jacked mine up from the subframe and it jacked up on one wheel in the corner is my car supposed to be that stiff and how do u do it properly thanks 2000 tdi 5 spd 😊
My 01 golf starter did the same thing as yours. If you pull it apart and lube it it will stop doing that after start whine. There’s a few youtube videos on it as it’s fairly common. Love the video as usual! I need another ALH
Can it be tuned so you get less black smoke when you're getting on it? Seems like either too much fuel, or you need more air and would make more power?

Austin, I just found your channel today and I must say I enjoy your content a lot. Do you happen to have a full list of mods on your jetta engine? I have a flash tune and some nozzles on mine but I need more top end power, like what your described your car now having.
Here in Portugal an 1756vk not v can't do 230hp, only with pd130 (asv) or pd150 (arl) can get more than 220 or 240hp. Vp 110 ahf need 520 race stg1 to get more than 150hp
I'd be interested to see a cost breakdown of this car, similar to what you've done for the red and green truck in the past. Here in Canada we are getting screwed on gas prices so I'm looking to weigh out the cost of a more fuel efficient daily that I can still enjoy.
Take it from a fellow Canadian. The only issue you'll have with these cars are the salted winters for rusty body panels (especially where the fender meets the side skirt). And also in the winter you're gonna have to block off the front grills or this thing will NEVER warm up. 99.5-03 are the slightly more reliable engine (ALH) than the 04-06 (BEW) 1.9 TDI. THE BEWs ate cams if you used the wrong oil (which a lot of owners did).
@@RandomlnternetGuy Fellow Canadian here also. If your having to block your front grills in the winter to get heat, and warm up to temp then check/replace thermostat or coolant temp sensor. As for the rusting around the front fender to the side skirt, remove the inner wheel well plastic. there's most likely 3-4" of packed in dirt and debris that builds up right in the corner there that always causes the rust or the fender to be pushed out a bit. Don't mind me. Just puffed a bit, felt like some typing.

And yea the bottom of the wheel liner was done for the first time when i bought my car, guess the 3 US owners before me didn't have a clue. And to the OP... ^^ common fail points along with LCA bushings and a droopy headliner.
Mine has a tune, larger turbo, stage 2 cam, manual swap and nozzles. Gets minimum 47mpg even more on longer trips going faster on higher speed roads. You can find a balance between power and fuel economy. Fastest fuel efficient commuter setup on mine as I could

I have pd100 and my idle is high around 1100rpm all the time since I changed my clutch anyone had this problem your help will be much appreciated, so far I did coolant temp sensor, fuel temp sensor, clutch pully on alternator nothing worked
Curious why you didn't put the EGT probe in the EGR plate. This turbo is really tempting. I'm afraid it won't be quite enough, thinking maybe the 1856 for me. I have a BEW in a Beetle with Malone Stage 2, and I want MORE. Thanks for posting this video.
EGT in the egr port is not very accurate, i have tried! Putting it right before the turbo in the actual exhaust stream is the best spot for a good reading

Put a little grease on the drill bit and tap to keep the metal chips from falling in. The vacuum cleaner is a good idea too.

In stock form these cars get 50 mpg!! And these are actually really cheap to mod!

Hi Austin, do yourself a favor and put a SS flexible braided line on the turbo oil inlet. Much less PITA to remove. Anyway, great vid as always !
