Yeah I was actually going to say that this game seems like it was much easier to code then it would seem because you'd really only need to set up the words as a definitive thing and the rest would be level design.
I've been playing this game recently and it simultaneously makes you feel like a genius and the most stupid person on earth. Like, I feel very accomplished when I figure out a complicated puzzle, but then I remember I've been whispering "if baba is baba then baba can't be keke. ok now keke is push, but water is sink and-" to myself for the last 20 minutes.

So much of the real skill in programming comes down to logically figuring out the input conditions and the desired outputs like that. Then it is a case of figuring out the steps in between, when you get to that stage you have done the hard part, Google is your friend so figuring out how to code the functions needed for each step.

I went to Uni for Game Art and Design and one of the things we had to do was explore win conditions and the mechanics of a game and how that connected with making a good game, and honestly this feels like a PERFECT case study for that section of teaching. A game that lets you control the win conditions and make the rules basically? Yeah that’s really cool.
Honestly I think it would make a great game for developing some elementary programming skills. You are literally manipulating the classes of objects and their methods and properties to get them to behave in the desired way to solve a logical problem. This sort of skill in figuring out how to interpret, understand, and thus manipulate and exploit data to get the desired result is core to all programming.

I remember meeting one of the devs on a gaming convention. I'm so glad this game is finally gaining more recognition, because it really deserves it. In that instance, Kevin pushed star onto the skull and then accidentally made "star is sink" which "sunk" the skull into the star, eliminating both - effectively clearing a path to the solution of the level.

I like how this game basically encourages you to mess around with the game to figure out possible solutions. Unlike most puzzle games where it’s a linear line to the solution, there are several ways to go about each level.
Baba is you is a really fantastic puzzle game. Dispite it's simple presentation, it's probably my favorite in the genre. There's some really great "A HA" moments, the puzzles ramp up in difficulty pretty smoothly, and theres some really great mind blowing moments in it. I highly recommend this game to anyone who thinks it looks neat.

Agreed, also pretty useful for more advanced collection like structures such as objects or classes. So there is room to build on that when discussing concepts like scoping of properties and methods etc. A good basic introduction to how you go about describing an arbitrary thing and what it is/has and what it can do to a computer so that it can represent it when dealing with stuff more complex than just a number or a string or whatever.

What I find crazy with this game is how easily I can totally forget how I defeated a level. So I watch you or Carl play a level and know I did something different but can't remember HOW I did (some levels I do, some I don't).
It was so funny when you did a double take at the flag becoming a rock, restarting, and rubbing your eyes just to be sure you'd seen the flag clearly! The eye rubbing is a simple gag, but it really got me for some reason 😄
