Yeah I was actually going to say that this game seems like it was much easier to code then it would seem because you'd really only need to set up the words as a definitive thing and the rest would be level design.

funnily enough, the order doesnt quite match the difficulty curve. The only thing you can be sure is that the extras are harder.

I've been playing this game recently and it simultaneously makes you feel like a genius and the most stupid person on earth. Like, I feel very accomplished when I figure out a complicated puzzle, but then I remember I've been whispering "if baba is baba then baba can't be keke. ok now keke is push, but water is sink and-" to myself for the last 20 minutes.

@@cowtowncaptain7649 I was thinking this game would be great for developing core coding skills like that. So much of the real skill in programming comes down to logically figuring out the input conditions and the desired outputs like that. Then it is a case of figuring out the steps in between, when you get to that stage you have done the hard part, Google is your friend so figuring out how to code the functions needed for each step.

Well, this is a very very very simplistic way of showing how programming works, or at least the logic of it
only difference is that there is no stack overflow...
This honestly feels as though it's made by a python programmer, because often the logic is completely the same. Because you can assign your own rules and variables, so it felt easier to track. I'd definitely buy this game.

Decided to look back at the code for a game I didn’t finish (in video game programming now) after returning from summer break and my brain immediately fried.
True, lol. Also my native language is Russian, not English, so when I'm thinking about my code I kinda mix Russian, English and programming languages all together. And it actually makes sense to me.

That is such an interesting game! I went to Uni for Game Art and Design and one of the things we had to do was explore win conditions and the mechanics of a game and how that connected with making a good game, and honestly this feels like a PERFECT case study for that section of teaching. A game that lets you control the win conditions and make the rules basically? Yeah that’s really cool.
Honestly I think it would make a great game for developing some elementary programming skills. You are literally manipulating the classes of objects and their methods and properties to get them to behave in the desired way to solve a logical problem. This sort of skill in figuring out how to interpret, understand, and thus manipulate and exploit data to get the desired result is core to all programming.
I remember meeting one of the devs on a gaming convention. I'm so glad this game is finally gaining more recognition, because it really deserves it. I was incredibly impressed by the design of the game and the overall premise. It's so simple, yet intriguing at the same time. The dev team is incredibly nice too ;0;

As someone who completed this game 100%, this was a joy to watch.
@Mya Moore Star became sink, which means that whatever object that is either pushed into another object which "is sink" OR if there's already an object sitting on a "is sink" object, they will eliminate each other. In that instance, Kevin pushed star onto the skull and then accidentally made "star is sink" which "sunk" the skull into the star, eliminating both - effectively clearing a path to the solution of the level.
I feel like some CS courses could assign this as an introduction to logic.

I like how this game basically encourages you to mess around with the game to figure out possible solutions. Unlike most puzzle games where it’s a linear line to the solution, there are several ways to go about each level.

Baba is you is a really fantastic puzzle game. Dispite it's simple presentation, it's probably my favorite in the genre. There's some really great "A HA" moments, the puzzles ramp up in difficulty pretty smoothly, and theres some really great mind blowing moments in it. I highly recommend this game to anyone who thinks it looks neat.

The way I see it, this game is actually REALLY simple. It's just the puzzle, and general idea that is genius.
Honestly, this game looks very fun. The concept is very creative and open ended, plus it's absolutely unique. I can see this game being a hidden gem of the year.
That's unlikely, given the game came out in 2019. It is a great game though.
Thankfully, it's genius has gotten plenty of recognition already, though more is always nice.

I'm going to use this game to teach my students Coding, this is a genius way of showing variables and conditionals
Agreed, also pretty useful for more advanced collection like structures such as objects or classes. So there is room to build on that when discussing concepts like scoping of properties and methods etc. A good basic introduction to how you go about describing an arbitrary thing and what it is/has and what it can do to a computer so that it can represent it when dealing with stuff more complex than just a number or a string or whatever.

Once his brain recovered and healed, Kevin actually became smarter than he ever was before. As little of an increase it might have been.
What I find crazy with this game is how easily I can totally forget how I defeated a level. So I watch you or Carl play a level and know I did something different but can't remember HOW I did (some levels I do, some I don't).
I think that is what makes it so much fun. Some levels have very few solutions, others are a lot more open ended.

You tell me! I got pretty far into the game but there were an increasing amount of levels that just totally stumped me. Back when the game was released there wasn't even that many up-to-date guides for it, but perhaps I could get back into it and get some hints now...

Fun Fact: Since the the level selection screen has those rules (there's some in the bottom left, for example), it's actually possible to beat the level selection screen

It's interesting how the whole point of the game is its consistency in its rules, yet every single UA-camr playing it thinks the rules change. They don't have this problem for any other game lol
