I just got my second ScaleTrains Rivet Counter locomotive a BNSF DASH 9-44CW (the other is a CSX C39-8). They are awesome in every aspect, build quality, details, smooth quiet motors, and as a huge bonus, LokSound 5 with PowerPack capacitors. ScaleTrains is now my favorite manufacturer. I have an SD45 on order.
An impressive locomotive model, I am pleased to see a modern release of the emd sd45 in ho scale, I look forward to seeing / purchasing the SP and C&NW locomotive models, big fan of the sd45.
As an sp guy I am getting one! Also, would love to get you guys to do the SD 9s I personally would pick up at least 6, black widow/ bloody nose transition era
I purchased 2 of the early SP SD45's from SP's first order. What I really want is the later phase SP SD45 that was the most common, which had L shaped engineer windshield and high mount brake cylinders. Still waiting and prices continue to rise!
Also, you guys should do the RP39/RP40-2C. It was a passenger variant of the GP40-2 rebuilt by MK exclusively for the Virginia railway express. The RP40s had an SD45 carbody on a gp40 frame and the RP39s were GP40s with some different features.
You both guys are excellent communicators. Very good products. There is a beautiful locomotive, of EMD, that I never seen it in any scale. The G-12 Please consider this model. Thanks
Mike Hopkins mentioned for those who want trains from a certain era but can't say what they want. No problem for me in that regard. I am interested in late 1970's primarily D&RGW and grew up with SP and a big fan of the SD45 from those days in northern California. I can't wait for ST to offer Rio Grande SD45's but I'm in for the SP SD45 too. So far the only ST engines I have are the as delivered D&RGW SD40T-2's and I"m waiting for more versions. A GP30 would be lovely to! I got to meet Shane at the Chantilly show in Virginia a few months ago and it was a pleasure meeting him!
One thing I would like to see improved is making a much brighter amber strobe light if equipped. It’s not just Scale Train models but industry wide they are always so weak barely visible. Lighting in general has advanced so much yet the beacons are still stuck in the past. It’s just a important detail thing with me.
I like how when I ask if they would make a GP40-2, which only like 2 companies make a decent one, I get "Many companies have already done the GP40-2". Then they make the SD45, at least 4 companies made a decent SD45. Correction: 5 companies make decent SD45s, forgot about kato.
Great to see SD45's coming out. When will a TRUE Northern Pacific SD45 be coming out. And also the transition period NP to BN SD45's will be coming out? Thank's
Two thumbs up. I already pre-ordered 3 of the SP units. Please do the 7400/7500 series SD45R's eventually...those are a MUST as well. Athearn's model was okay but I know you guys would do it one better...
Looks great. How about some Great Northern in your next run. Number 400 Hustle Muscle would be great. If you are going to do more 1960s era I for one would love to see an SD40.
I hope it's something that's never been produced in HO. I know IHC & others did. Please add a detailed, reliable & decent running Alco C-415 to the future list. Painted & unpainted versions. They'll sell like hotcakes.
I would love a rivet counter GP38-2. Canadian Pacific or the Canadian National GP38-2W. I will 100 % buy a few of those. Preferably the later ones with ditch lights.
Greetings Scale trains. Is there a possibility, that you can produce the Amtrak Acela set, with Dcc/Sound? And can you produce a line of RS3 locomotives with sound? Thanks. I'm in the process of purchasing your Dash 9 Northfolk and Southern.
To answer your question “what would I like to see Scale Trains produce”? I’m waiting on the definitive steal and wood caboose I model the Union Pacific of the 50s As well as other rolling stock appropriate to the transition Era.
Not to diminish the greatness of the ol special duty 45 there, but as a response to Mike Hopkin as for what many or at least I would like to see from you guys is the tier 3 and tier 4 SD70ACe in rivit counter. Not many people are producing emd ACe's in the top of the line product lines. If you guys made that decision I'm quite certain you'd take over that field of model RR that athearn seems to have a monopoly on. Essentially newer model RR of the newer generations are leaning more towards the modern power. Mainly because that's what they're seeing on the rails. Yea you have the gevos and dash 9s, but the main companion and rival is the modern ACe or MAC. You guys haven't pecked into that realm yet and it would be simply awesome to see you do it.
Ever heard of Athearn Genesis? No need for another SD70ACe. And why would they produce a model that was purchased by two Class 1’s, with most of the UP units being in storage?
Everything Trains13 You’ll be waiting a while. It doesn’t make any sense for Scaletrains to do them when Athearn has been producing a top of the line model for years.
I'm very curious. It may be a steamer, or a transition era diesel, since ScaleTrains has always done modern diesel power. And they have nothing 4 axle.
The Santa Fe units done in the first run are part of the Operator™ brand and are one size fits all solution to quality and affordable HO scale trains. -Drayton
Very cool ScaleTrains! But are you also planning to make these in N scale? Many Santa Fe modelers would also like these, but the Operator Series of an ATSF SD45 that you showed off wore a paint scheme AFTER 1972. What about the 1960s when EMD introduced the SD45? I and many others model the Santa Fe in N scale during the 1960s, so we'd love to see you offer ATSF SD45s painted in the blue and yellow pinstripe (aka "Bookends") paint scheme typical for that pre-1972 era. I'm sure that many HO modelers would also like this. There's nothing very special about Santa Fe's post-1972 blue and yellow Warbonnet paint scheme. Unfortunately, there currently exists a glut of them by almost every model railroading manufacturer in both HO & N scales. Except occasionally by your competitors Atlas and Athearn, Santa Fe's pre-1972 paint scheme is very seldom offered in any high-quality N scale freight locomotive by any model train manufacturer. Many years ago, Intermountain produced an SD45-2 in the pre-1972 scheme, but the internal mechanisms were often disappointingly problematic and defective (probably from a lack of quality control). Except for a round-nose F unit and its NW2 switcher, Kato hasn't offered freight locomotives in more than a decade or perhaps two in Santa Fe's pre-1972 scheme. As you can see, the N scale marketplace lacks Santa Fe's pre-1972 paint scheme right now. ScaleTrains could really capitalize on this by filling the void to help meet customer demand. I would gladly buy such an N-scale Rivet Counter or two or three if ScaleTrains made these iconic Santa Fe SD45 locomotives in the pre-1972 scheme. Please don't overlook us N-scalers!!! When you first entered the model railroading industry almost 4 years ago, you wisely decided to offer your flagship locomotive, UPs "Big Blow" turbine, in both HO and N scales. You should do the same for your introduction of the SD45s. Lastly, may I suggest in the future that ScaleTrains looks into producing not only 1960s-era EMD Special Duty (SD) 6-axle diesel locomotives, but also EMD General Purpose (GP) 4-axle ones from the 1960s such as GP35s and GP40s in BOTH N & HO scales? These versatile GP locomotives would be extremely desirable for modelers running mainline, branchline and switching operations. -from Tom Pilling
