You are so right! There just isn’t music like this anymore. Watching you discover the Bee Gees just made my day! There are Bee Gees fans like me that followed them into the 2000’s! They had great music in every decade. I listen to them every night. Their voices just sooth the soul! Thank you for your great reactions!
Also, if you really loved this song, you should check out “Wind of Change” that they performed on the Midnight Special around this same time period. It is equally great compared to this song.
Even though I grew up with this music, I think there’s a certain amount of taking it for granted, I’m finding I’m really getting into more with these reaction videos, ty
Maurice only did it on the live versions, in the recording it was Barry. Barry sang the low part which he couldn’t leave to do the high part at the end.
Their final album--This Is Where I Came In was in the early 2000's before Maurice died. The Still Waters album (my favorite) is from 1997 and has a lot of good ones--my favorite from there is My Lover's Prayer.
Maurice did the falsetto in this--as he did on the Midnight Special. The camera didn't pan to him but it's there once you know what to listen for. :) Great reaction! Thanks.
Such a shame that Mo wasn't in the spotlight more often,. Barry and Robin were so competitive, Mo said he was the.man in the.middle,.keeping the.peace. He was.so talented, funny and handsome
I think 2003 was the last year they were all together. Maurice died around that time, then Robin a few years later. The older they got, the more their harmonies smoothed out. They ripened with age.
The more you'll get into their enormous songcatalogue, the more you'll find them nearly everywhere, music can go. So many different styles. They always were curious and fearless in developing new ways. Cant thing of another musicians/singer-songwriters, being so innovative. Check'em out with a song called 'World'.
Check out their songs "Alone" and "For Whom The Bell Tolls". Both were from the 90's, so you can contrast with the disco 70's songs . Robin gets to share the lead singing with Barry.
During live performances, Mo sang the falsetto since Barry was singing lead, he couldn't do both so MO would do it. He could do anything that was needed in the band. Yes, I think he was GREAT!
They wrote this song along with all the other songs for Saturday Night Fever movie with John Travolta. That's who you saw doing that solo dance from the movie.
These disco songs were written forbade john Travolta movie, Saturday night fever. (Disco theme). They were never a "disco" band. But they did it well, as everything they write/sing.
I'm 58, when I was into, and still am, Rush, Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, I was very much awed by The Bee Gees, I would get into arguments with my metal friends all the time, magical music has no genre.❤
I really like this song because all of them are singing in their natural voices with not as much falsetto...you get a real sense of their voices being used in a very manly way. Don't get me wrong...I love the falsetto...but when they (especially Barry) sing in their natural tenor voices...I find it very manly...very attractive.
Maurice was such a great bass player...I learned so much from listening to his licks. They just blended with the keyboard so much it was hard to separate them.
And this is the song Barry discovered he had that falsetto. Someone asked if one of them could do a light scream. Barry said he could try. He went in the booth and magic came out!
Barry’s dad bought him a used guitar for his 9th Christmas and a neighbour showed him how to tune it. The man had spent time in Hawaii during the war, so actually showed him how to tune in open D like Hawaiians. It’s also easier to play in open d and sing at the same time than traditional tuning. It had a distinctly different sound, so when he and Maurice are both playing acoustics it’s a special treat. Their brother Andy also played in open d. Please react to JIVE TALKIN, their 1975 comeback hit. It was inspired by the clickety sound the tires made crossing the bridge going to the studio.
Another thing about Barry’s guitar playing is that he is left handed but plays right handed. His rhythm is impressive but he doesn’t get recognized for that, sadly. All three brothers played instruments, but Robin preferred to not play on stage. His unique voice was his instrument. Best group ever IMHO.
Next BeeGees listen: "Too Much Heaven", "How Do You Mend A Broken Heart", and/or "How Deep Is Your Love"......(from the BeeGees; the Brothers, Gibb; Left, Robin Gibb; Middle, Barry Gibb; Right, Maurice Gibb. Maurice and Robin are twins. Barry is the oldest.)
They have been performing since they were boys. There are You-tube videos of them performing when they were 9 and 12 in 1963. They have natural talent, but a lot of practice over a number of years.
Great reaction to a belting track... Wonder if anyone ever write or had a track performed or recorded by the brothers... Imagine trying to impress them with lyrics and Melody's...tough audience 🤣
Bee Gees have talent on loan from God. They are among the greatest singers ever. So sad that Barry is inky one left. Listened to them as a teenager and young adult. And have their music on my phone as a 74 year old! Thank you for your channel. Just keep the hits coming!!
This is video that is synced with the album recording. This is also the start of Barry singing in falsetto. Story goes that they had finished the session when the producer asked Barry to go into the booth and go off at the end. If you want to hear them live, listen to the midnite special recording.
Barry was doing baritone here, so Maurice (on the left) was doing falsetto. Every song the Bee Gees came out with was hit; I don't think they ever had a fail.
Sometimes live, Maurice (Mo as they called him) would take the falsetto so that Barry and Robin could continue the chorus. They had an instinctual feel for when one of them should come in stronger on a certain song. Barry has said several times that Mo had an intuitive, natural ability to join in at just the right time to bring depth to their harmonies. Mo said that they actually had four voices in the Bee Gees because when Robin and Barry are singing together their harmony is so tight sometimes it sounds like one voice. -Please consider reacting to some of their songs from Spirts Having Flown, such as the amazing; Stop (Think Again), Search, Find; Spirits (Having Flown), and Love You Inside and Out. And, please! listen to one of their most beautiful and sophisticated albums Living Eyes with songs such as, Paradise, Living Eyes, Don't Fall in Love with Me, and Nothing Could Be Good. And, just wait till you hear Boogie Child from their Children of the World album, it flat out slaps! and is a funkadelic masterpiece.
I’m a child of the 60 s and 70 s. What a time for music. The greatest The Beatles, Stones, Who, CCR, Grand Funk, Doobies, Eagles, and of course the second greatest group IMO The Bee Gees. What a time to grow up. That’s why I love watching guys like yourself discovering this music
The song goes on for @ another minute but this video ended short. Their last album was in 2001. Maurice passed less than 2years later. For their 80s sound try You Win Again or One. For 90s maybe Alone or For Whom The Bell Tolls Or Blue Island live unplugged on MTV.
Don't know if you know: they couldn't read music! Never learned. So their talent is truly amazing! They started writing & performing as kids, late 1950s, and the rest is history. Continued up into the early 2000s (Maurice died), then Barry & Robin had separate careers, but still writing & singing. Some performances together. After Robin died, Barry has continued on with his sons & niece sometimes working with him. Incredible talent!
Yes. 2001 was their last This is where i came in. The title song is a quirky short history of their lives. Great fun. Another one you should enjoy is Tragedy, also the video about the making thereof.
One of my favorites by the BeeGees. But dang, I love them all. My favorite band. This song really shows their talent!! I've read everything about the BeeGees there is. I'm in love. 😍
fantastic reaction! there’s not too many great bee gees reactors on here but you are certainly one of the best and quickly becoming a favourite! along with what others are suggesting, i recommend the songs ‘You Win Again’ for some infectious 80s Bee Gees or the gut wrenching Robin signature track ‘I Started A Joke’ from the 60s - cant wait to see more from you, thanks!
“Lonely Days” is another great song by this group. Many people think that it’s a Beatles song. Barry told this story in 1998, "A manager we had about five years back heard 'Lonely Days' in a restaurant and he said to a friend, 'That's one of my favorite Beatles songs' And he was managing us!" I also recommend that you react to some their songs where Maurice was the lead singer. “Man in the Middle, “ and “Closer than Close” are a couple that showcase his talent.
This is actually the song where Barry learned he could sing falsetto. The producer thought they needed a high "scream" at the end and Barry said that he'd give it a try and surprised himself when he realized he could sing that high. And the rest is history...
Nights On Broadway and Fanny you reacted to before are from their 1975 album Main Course. By many considered their best album. It came after 2 years of desert walking for them. They still had hits in Asia and other parts of the world in 73/74 like My World and Wouldn't I Be Someone but in US and Europe they were slowly forgotten. On main Course are many more songs that really are impressive. Like Jive Talkin' which were the first number 1 for them in the US since 1971 and Wind Of Change (not to be confussed with scorpions song) which has some really impressive lyrics like "Don't You Under Stand What I Am Saying, We Need A Guy(god) down here, A Man To Lead Us Children, Take Us From The Vally Of Fear". Also there is 2 country vibe songs like Come On Over (Olivia Newton John recorded this as well) and Country Lanes, my favorite with Robin om lead.
This was a video synced with the recorded version of the song. Barry also sang the high parts at the end. They were an afterthought. Turn up the song and listen right to the end…there is an awesome scream.
It was while recording Nights on Broadway that Barry discovered his falsetto. Their producer Arif Mardin asked one of them to yell at the end of the song hopefully in harmony. Barry volunteered and as he said he has no idea where that came from because he had no idea he could sing In falsetto. From then on everyone wanted him to use falsetto and they started to write songs for it. All three brothers can do falsetto but it seems Barry can sing whole songs in falsetto while Robin and Maurice could not. One of the songs that Barry sings in falsetto is the beautiful Love you inside out.
@@iainsmith2434 if you can tell me where you got that information because I really love Barry’s falsetto and to me that’s Barry singing lead. Just to check myself I looked it up in Wikipedia and they have Barry as singing lead with Maurice as bass and backing vocals.
@@angelinasanchez5083 Yes that is correct, but Maurice said that Nights on Broadway was the first song where he sang in the falsetto in the background, not just Barry. If you find the Midnight Special video you can really pickup on Maurice singing in the high falsetto in the echo or response to Barry singing “I’m blaming it all” etc. Similarly in Too Much Heaven Barry’s lead is the notable exception, but Robin and Barry excel with their near perfect falsetto harmonies.
@@iainsmith2434 yes you are correct. For some reason I thought you were referring to Love you inside out. The three had very good falsettos and in the recording of nights on Broadway it was Barry who did the falsetto and in the Midnight Special it was Maurice.
I believe this is the song when Barry started using his falsetto voice. Some reports say that when they are during a live performance, Maurice will do the falsetto. But for the actual recording of the song, verses and lines are played back, then other words are fitted in to get a finished product. Here's a song that Barry wrote when he was 19. Beautiful! ua-cam.com/video/pnALM6hPdqM/v-deo.html
These three had been performing non stop since they arrived in Australia as kids. They were on all of Australian tv music and guest shows, were big in the 60s, 70s, 80s, and have written songs constantly for other huge stars across the world
Fun fact: this was the first song they had ever done with that twangy falsetto at the end and Barry didn't even know he could do it until they recorded it XD
I used to play popular sheet music on the piano and could never sing at the same time. Practice or just a unique talent? I think a lot of practice. I never got that good!!
This song showcases Barry’s natural voice level. The falsetto is cool but his natural voice is also phenomenal
It really is!
Yes! And Robyn's voice is incredibly unique, almost synthesized 😁😁
Agree, I love Barry’s chest voice!
I swear!!! 👌
@@Kazeemi2810Barry’s is unique as well.
Interesting observation you make about there not being music like this any more. I have heard similar comments from others in other videos.🙂

Well said!
I have listened to a lot of Bee Gees reactions but I subscribed to you. I like how you keep doing more and love your reaction.
Listen to Run to Me, another great one
I watched a lot of your videos, great to see you discover The Bee Gees! Appreciate you, keep up the great work.
You might try 'Jive Talking'. That is different. Good review, thanks.
Even though I grew up with this music, I think there’s a certain amount of taking it for granted, I’m finding I’m really getting into more with these reaction videos, ty
You have to watch their performance on the midnight special. I feel it’s one of the best live of this song.
You notice Mo is doing the falsetto on this one
Bee Gees trivia time...none of the brothers could read music...amazing God-given talent. BTW, in this song it is Maurice who is singing the falsetto.
You are correct, it was Maurice singing the falsetto here. I have heard Barry say that Maurice actually had a very good falsetto.
In the video yes, but if I hear correctly the audio is the recorded version which had Barry singing the falsetto.
Maurice only did it on the live versions, in the recording it was Barry. Barry sang the low part which he couldn’t leave to do the high part at the end.
Unbelievable!!!!!!!
Check out the 1975 Midnight Special version 😍
Maurice’s bass is killer in this one, and his voice is the best. I can’t get enough of him.
Their final album--This Is Where I Came In was in the early 2000's before Maurice died. The Still Waters album (my favorite) is from 1997 and has a lot of good ones--my favorite from there is My Lover's Prayer.
Greetings from Fort Worth. Great reaction.
Maurice is singing the falsettos!
You should react to their song To Love Somebody
Maurice did the falsetto in this--as he did on the Midnight Special. The camera didn't pan to him but it's there once you know what to listen for. :) Great reaction! Thanks.
I notice in earlier years the camera wasn’t on Maurice much.

I love Bee Gees, Can you react to the song STAYING ALIVE
A great one to react to would be Celine Dion singing Immortality which the BeeGees wrote and sing backing vocals on.
You just can't go wrong with the Bee Gees! Their vocal range is insane!

As for singing and playing at the same time - find the video of them singing at ages 10 and 7 - Barry killing it. ❤
This is the song when Barry discovered the falsetto voice
One of the best groups of all times!!!! Love, love them!!!❤❤❤
Maurice said that he never sang 'falsetto'. He had a headvoice which gave him the range to sing high harmonies.
So nice seeing your genuine appreciation for one of the best bands ever from my time. You have awesome taste and admiration.

It’s the best music you will ever hear! Nothing in this world past or present is like The Bee Gees! All have passed except Barry Gibb. So sad!
They were also singing in the 50’s !
The Main Course album from which this track originated is a masterpiece.
You should watch the live version of this song on a show called The Midnight Special. Maurice takes the falsetto there.
