    The Slug Leviathan would be a lot more menacing if it lived in an environment that would be SUPER dark, only seeing its bioluminescent appendages and needing a light to see it's entire body.

      I think a labyrinthine cave environment would be very cool for a sluglike leviathan, where it would nearly fill the cave. You would have to navigate around the environment using solely the light from your tools and a few plants that look vaguely like the bioluminescent parts of the slug leviathan, so you are never sure if there is a leviathan or not. There would have to be enough overlapping caves so you could move around a slug leviathan if you found one, but I think it would be a good use of the space under the map that is largely empty. Would also give a new use to the pathfinder tool, as sort of a Adrianes string.

      That would add to my thalassophobia. Put in it in the super dark murky depths or in a dark cave WAY below the surface where you least expect it. Only to shine a light to see the thing up close. 😱

    I feel like the Sea slug leviathan would've made a really cool passive creature, maybe residing somewhere in the dunes or the deeper parts of the ocean floor. Maybe, as it went along the floor, it kicked up rare materials from just underground, or left behind a trail of some kind of material unique to that specific creature.

    I was really sad when they cut the Ice Dragon Leviathan, I'm not really a fan of the creatures they have in Below Zero because they don't really make any sense in relation to the other creatures known to exist, the Ice Dragon could've been modified to more closely resemble the Sea Dragon or something like that. I really think that the Devs missed out on some great opportunities with Below Zero tbh.
    The Ice Dragon was also always my favorite concept and when they were trying to decide which ones to cut I kept hoping for the Ice Dragon to stay because it felt like something the game needed to give proper diversity since all the creatures look so similar.

      For me I actually quite liked the creatures and their designs, but the way they were implemented was where it faltered. My dream game would be a full planet in the style of subnautica. Mass open world, sparse multiplayer and some sort of hybrid manually created/procedurally generated world, preferably in full dive VR. Have wayyy more vehicles and base options, weapons, creatures, upgrades, and even a few special precursor sites that allow for ridiculous things.

    My idea for an ice dragon is cool
    Lets say, at the bottom of the crater the Chelly guards in the east arctic there was a windy tunnel, and after like a minute of going back and forth you find a GIANT room, Absolutely huge, like 800 meters down. (Before you say that it will interfere with the crystal and fabricator caves, it will wrap around them, going south around the caves.) There are 2 of these ice dragons and on the east side of the map, there is a huge hole going into the void. The dragons, every 3 years, leave the caverns through the void hole and into the east arctic to prey on chelicerates and glow whales. the reason why the void chelicerates have battle scars on them is because every time the ice dragons leave, they have to fight through the void chellys and the dragons beat the chellys up so bad they swim away. You can find a glow whale skeleton and a 100 meter chelly skeleton in the ice caverns and the big chelly implies something lived in the cavern before and the dragons killed it together, so they could inhabit the cavern. they are a mating pair and the gestation period is 64 years. their lifespan is 180 years. They came from and third piece of area about 10,000 years ago, (Crater, sector zero and this other habitable area, could be the subject to a 3rd game) when a creature similar to the gargantuan leviathan killed all the other members of their species. they are slowly rebuilding the population in the caverns (ice dragon incest doesn't exist) and they have 25000 health. They have attacks similar to the sea dragons from the lava zones in the first game. They are closely related. They are 160 meters. and one of them inhabits the area under the glacial basin (Yes the cave is big) and one inhabits the space under the Lilly pad islands. (you have to do a bit of traveling in the cave to find one)
    The cave has bright bioluminescence every where and has aggressive creatures named Chilly Lizards who look like lava lizards but have small icicles on them and they are a bluish white color.(there needs to be some other creature than the big guys themselves.)
    Maybe there is another storyline where this is the 3rd year of the cycle and you end up encountering them on the surface after the player notices an absence of glow whales. then they get a special message, because the ice dragons have telepathy to lure prey to them(why not) and you get told by your pda to go closer to the world edge, kind of like the Mesmer in Subnautica 1. You then see one come over the edge of the world when you are like 50 meters away and they see you and get curious and then disappear, because they already ate and are ready to go back to their place. This prompts the player to learn more about the creature and try to find it, and when you find the caverns and the dragons, one of them say that they dont like you and try to attack you. you leave and now you can go back at your free will to explore. There would be new materials and a new depth module for both the sea truck and prawn allowing them to go down to 1100 meters, because the max depth of the cave is 1090. deep in the cave you can find what looks like super old precursor tech and if you take AL AN down to it he will say something about a massacre that happened. The dragons got angry and destroyed the last of the hidden architects by collapsing the structure, but there is a hole big enough for robin. when she goes in AL AN sounds like he is in pain and talks about the architect souls warning him. deeper in the base you can find a power source that you need for a newly added base deep in the arctic spires and if you put the power source in the base it causes the place to rumble and architect spirits show up in a roundtable sort of fashion, at least 100. AL AN recognizes them as the highest rank of them who were stationed on the planet and were killed by the ice dragons. They scold AL AN for leaving, as he revealed that he worked there while the attack and was ordered to help but he just snuck away and was the only survivor. If he had stayed they might have all survived. Robin realized that his screams of pain were him trying to gain control of robin to make her leave, as he didn't want her to know and the reason he told her that the souls were warning him is because he was trying to make her scared so she would leave.
    alright that's it.
    If this became a mod, it might actually be a more ambitious project than Return of the Ancients.
    I spent like 30 minutes writing this, jeez

    The ray leviathan would've been amazing. I can see it roaming the entire map so you rarely bump into it. I'd prefer if it was pretty chill and didn't try to eat me.

    Below zero has so much missed potential, which is a shame because there is a massive pool of concept art that could have added so much more to the experience. I really think the easiest option to fit the ice dragon in, just make it into the guardian of the void like ghost leviathans, i already don't like the Chelicerate much and having a subpar reskin of it in the void is fairly lazy. adding only one or two Ice Dragon leviathan's into the void but making them much larger would have worked much better then scrapping a creature you already had modeled.

    • @tomi832
      @tomi832 3 роки тому +7

      Will they even work at the void?
      They are supposed to freeze you, which will probably leave you drifted and falling slowly...so instead of getting you out of the void, they'll make you stay in it and probably you won't even be able to flee back to Sector Zero.
      Also, you have the same thing (if not even "lazier") in the original Subnautica.
      But, it is part of the lore that the ghost leviathans get bigger and bigger, and that after a while they just leave the Crater to the void because they become too big...

    • @tomi832
      @tomi832 3 роки тому +3

      I think the Shadow Leviathan was a much wiser choice.
      If you had the Ice Dragon in there, everyone (and rightfully so) would have claimed that it's just a copy of Subnautica, but colder.
      "Oh? You had a dragon in the lava zone, the final part of the game? Now you have....an ICE Dragon in the final part of the game!".
      It also work great with the Crystal caves. Because it is so deep and the crystals emit low light levels, the area is pretty dark, which helps the Shadow Leviathan in lore, and in the game as a scary leviathan.
      The first time I went inside, I just wanted to take an in-game look at it. I heard it so I hid inside a few crystals near me, and I tried to look for it. Couldn't see anything, but then I saw a shoal of half-glowing orange fish taking to the left....so I decided to exit and maybe look a bit deeper, and there he was like 5 metres to my left, immediately attacking me and trying to eat me.
      Scared the hell out of me.
      So yeah, I just think the Ice Dragon couldn't have delivered the same thing in the Crystal caves...and if you wanna suggest "ok, so just switch it with the deep arctic or something" - so now you made the final part even more of a rip-off of the lava zones.

    This could be done by unknown worlds for subnautica 3, where they could add more unused creatures from the first or second game. Or it would've been a dope alternative to subnautica and below zero being seperate games and made it one massive masterpiece!
    I do know this wouldn't be possible due to budget and time. But I like the idea of it being one massive game.
    I do enjoy both subnautica 1 and below zero. The game fascinated me so much that I want to study earth's oceans. That's why I am wanting to become a marine biologist.

    I have an idea, I call it the cave dweller leviathan, it, of course, dwells in a cave, and has many tentacles along it’s body allowing it to grab onto cave walls pulling it towards you and it would also have arms and legs and tentacles on the splitting head with 4 segments the split like a flower when opened up many sharp teeth found with 4 layers per segment, it would be always in the cave but it would be part of a chase scene with you needing to grab an item from the cave, I don’t know what, but when you find the area with it, the cave would shake, and the cave dweller would break through the wall, roar, then chase you and when you finally make you way out of the large room with materials, you reach a corridor it couldn’t fit through you escape seeing it reaching and grabbing at you. The cave dweller’s arms would be clawed and wouldn’t look arm like more tentacle like but with an elbow joint and claws have with spikes and skinny and it would have 4, all of them being on the front. The cave dweller would also have 18 legs with similar looks as the arms but spread out along its snake like body being around juvenile ghost leviathan size

    I feel the need to mention that the conclusion made at around 6:00 is incorrect. It's been confirmed by the art designer that the Grab Squid was marked as Sea Monkey because that's what it would eventually become. When questioned in an interview the designer mentioned that the Sea Monkey went through more redesign iterations than practically any other creature that made it into the game. The Grab Squid as it was dubbed, was just one of its earliest iterations.

    I can imagine a grab squid making its way into your cyclops or habitat and stealing stuff from either. I can also see it stealing or taking a battery or power cell and recharging it or slotting itself into a vehicle and powering it or draining power extremely quickly. It would probably be funny to see your power supply suddenly jumping way up or way down while you're out there exploring. Possibly even a way to tame them by offering them batteries and stuff then you might place them into a containment enclosure and then you would have a way to produce power by feeding them and a bonus would be some friends.

    I feel that there is too much vulnerability, we need a special, damage-dealing weapon like the stasis rifle. You would balance this by making it hard to create the weapon and ammo for said weapon. I was thinking of a single-shot like sniper-escqe rifle. It would cost a couple high-grade (lithium?) Ingots, battery, magnetite (it's basically an under-water magnetic cannon.) And some other high-end materials. The ammo would cost something like a titanium ingot, sulfur, and lead. It's something you can mess-around with when you get enough resources to sustain it.

  • @gagekelley5047

    Boy do I have some ideas for you. First, shockweed. Shochweed is a plant that lives in extremely deep cave systems near hydrothermal vents. The plant in a total of 3 meters tall on average and has a stem about 0.3 meters wide, and a bulb on top that is 0.8 meters in diameter. It has triangular leaves, that are entirely black and face the nearest vent. They collect thermal energy instead of light, and use "electro-thermosynthesis" to create electricity from the heat. This electricity then powers the plants energy needs, but not nutritional needs. It absorbs the nutrients from the soil as toxic chemicals, using chemo synthesis to create usable materials. The bulb on top of it is home to about 10 Bolt Beetles at once, which protect the plant at all costs since they can't live without it. The plant also provides them electricity that the beetles store for protection and hunting. This is done via "nodes" on the base of the plant. The beetles have an exoskeleton made of titanium and plasteel for the most part, but also trace amounts of ruby. This strength compared the size of the beetles and the water preasure means they live very comfortably, and since the inside is pressurized, they don't have trouble living in shallower waters like other creatures. The Bolt Beetles also make the plants spread by taking the seeds with them when hunting and planting them wherever a good spot is found. Bolt Beetles hunt a ray species, probably. The seeds of the shockweed plants have a similar appearance to creepvine seeds(I couldn't think of a better design), and can be used to make batteries as an alternative to whatever you would normally use. If you get too close to the Shockweed, the Bolt Beetles will attack, but don't do much damage individualy, and have to band up to defend the plant. I expect that there would be a ray species or maybe a deep sea fish that is perfectly adapted to eat either the Bolt Beetles or the shockweed by having special cells that can redirect the current to its fins, keeping itself safe.

    • @gagekelley5047
      @gagekelley5047 Рік тому

      The cavern leviathan. It's a massive creature that basically an open tunnel. It has a 30 meter wide digestive track, and a giant open mouth that many creatures call home. A type of coral and already grow there, the already feeding off of bioluminescent bulbs that allow them to photosynthesis, then uses chemosynthesis, and after that they are fed on by filter feeders, then they by larger creatures and so on. You can safely enter and exit, and even build a base without harming the leviathan. It's also extremely long. Technically, I imagineit to be an entire biome. I think it would also be cool it the scanner mistakes it for an actual cave at first, but finds abnormalities and prompts further research, which leads you deeper in. As for the practically, I don't know what the leviathan should do. I am thinking it would be a little dangerous, as there are stomachs all around the inside that open up and turn inside out the catch nearby fish, and do so very fast. The inside out stomach thing was inspired by starfish as they do that same thing.

    I don't play subnautica anymore, but I'd just like to point out that the leviathan that you likened to a hermit crab has no shell. That would be its body and it closely resembles that of a marine Isopod. Also, seeing as it also has a similar head to an existing leviathan + octopus tentacles, it just feels like they threw a load of concepts at a board and slapped together what they thought would stick and didn't get a chance to flesh out the design. Essentially I'm saying it looks ridiculous because I don't think they could decide on a theme to give it lol
