keep in mind that these airmen are candidates for Air Force Special Warfare. They do have a higher physical fitness over other regular airmen coming in.

@@imstuckstepbro1934 This isn't the test to be considered for Air Force special operations or the Army's SF equivalent. This is the regular Air Force fitness test. The selection to be considered for Special Warfare or Special Operations they need to take the PAST test which includes swimming qualifications and stricter times. So yes these standards are low as hell, as you put it because it's not meant for Special Operations.

@@jayp4772 yeah I know. I was in the DEP program for PJ in the Airforce but the ship date was too long. I trained with PJs during the 4 months I was with them and it was no joke. Now being in the army for a couple years and trained with both rangers and operators from 1 special forces group felt more gruesome in my opinion. Not downgrading the PJs in anyway because they are probably one of the most important Special Operations group in the SOF community but training just felt harder in the army

In standard form, this is the first visual example of the new PT test I’ve seen because G-d knows we won’t see it ‘til we waltz our way into the FAC the day-of. Thank you for the actual visual of what our new test is going to look like so I can understand my options in advance rather than just resign myself to the same old test (though, to be frank, I think I’m just going to stick with the old components regardless). Thank you so much for putting this out there man. Just like the legacy PFA, most will need to specifically train for these types of movements to understand how to do them efficiently and to avoid injuries. The front deltoid stress from hand release push ups is real and will need to be worked out to decrease chances of injury on such a small muscle getting worked that hard. If you're not doing planks or the cross leg sit ups often, they can significantly fatigue major muscle groups needed for the run. Specifically the core, quads and hip flexors. Train 2 to 3 times a week for at least 6 weeks to build up the tolerances in your less often used muscle groups and you should have success.

@@Tre_Bar I honestly don't know why the Air Force hasn't figured out that the majority of their recruits aren't natural athletes who have been practicing these movements like it's something natural in civilian life. I was active, building houses for a living for 10 years before enlisting. Played football in highschool but at 27 years old when I joined, I hadn't been doing push ups or running 1.5 miles. I was lifting weights, climbing ladders, hauling lumber short distances. I didn't know how to breath correctly for 1.5 mile runs, I didn't know how to do push ups and sit ups as fast as you need to for the PFA. None of that is natural and should be taught. I've strained hip flexors, shoulder muscles. I tore my plantar tendon trying to increase my speed in the 1.5 mile. I don't get profiles and muscle my way through and pass but it has taken a toll that never should have had we been taught how to do this stuff the right way. Now we have all these other new options that are movements occurring even less naturally in the real world...and still no training lol.

Under a 9 minute mile is absolutely flying for 98% of people. I'm still in the 10 minute ball park and I'm gassed. But I'm more of a sprinter, but endurance is the issue for me. Push ups and sit ups are easy though, so is the hand release push ups. But a 3+ minute plank is also a hell of a workout.

Great video. One of my take aways from this video is how the new events illuminated that the older events can be slightly “biased” towards those that might have somewhat a natural propensity towards certain physical standards (not that you can’t train to them). For example some of the airmen that maxed the older standards of sit-ups, run were not the same one’s that maxed the newer standards. Long distance and sprinting are 2 different things…

I admire the financial independence of people, But you can live better if you work a little more. After watching this I think there are people out there, on the extreme, who plan to die early just to be able to retire early. To each their own but to me retirement isn't just about not having to work, it's about having the freedom to do whatever you might reasonably want, such as travel, buying things, enjoying life, etc. I don't think I could retire with less than $3m in income generating investments, maybe $2m at the very minimum. I plan to work until I'm at least 45............

Man, when I went through in ‘86, the PFT consisted of push-ups, sit-ups, pull-ups, a standing broad jump, and a timed 600 yard run, all done on the same day. A timed 1.5 mile run (under 12 minutes) was then required to be done on a separate day, if I remember correctly. (If anyone out there remembers what the mins and maxes were for the events, I’d appreciate ya refreshing my memory, as I only recall the pull-up requirements. Man... the HAMR is just the pacer test from school.
What they should be comparing is the minimum scores and which is easier to hit minimums and still pass. Lets be honest here, we all know those people who every 6 months have an injury pop up and can't run... or during the test some injury happens where they can't finish it. It doesn't take a genius to see it. Every time I had an injury the doctors would always ask when my PT test was. Its just like wow... so many people fake shit that, that's the first thing you ask me.
There should be a test designed so people can't fake an injury to get out of it. Like a no notice no consequence PT test done at random where if you pass it counts as the test. (would be within 2 months of your normal test).
59 HAMR = 12:33 - 12:15, 1.5 mile (which is the lowest score in the low risk category and gets you 53.5 points) | To get 59 HAMR laps it takes about 7 min 20 sec.
59 laps is basically 3 laps on a track (59*20=1180m 1180m = .733mi) If you train to run a 2:26min lap you're gtg in theory... Adding in the run, slow down, stop, and turn takes a lot more energy.
Like anything you gotta train for this. I bet if you can pass this you'll easily pass the normal run.
