I Don’t Remember Air Force Basic Training Being This Tough 😮

  • This is my reaction to the new Air Force Basic Training video. Y'all I went through Air Force basic training back in 2006. A lot has changed since then. As I was watching this video, I was totally surprised by how cool Air Force BMT is now, but I was also shocked by how hard Air Force Basic Training seems now. Insider did a great job filming this. If you're going to Air Force Basic Training in soon or in 2022, I really recommend you get familiar with whats going before you get there.

I knew I should have joined the Air Force! But no I had to be a hard head and join the Marine Corps where we carried our rifle with us pretty much 10 of the 12 weeks if boot camp. And why would u have wanted to sleep in that hut with ac/heat instead of sleeping in a sleeping bag in the ground in a shelter half in the rain!!! I went through boot camp from September 8, 1992 to December 4, 1992 at Parris Island. The difference is more than night and day. But you have to have different for different services. When it comes down to it, We ALL basically signed a blank check for up losing our lives. One thing I can say is every chance I got to eat at an Air Force chow hall I sure did. They had great food! I just went through BMT in June-August. 323TRS, MUSTANGS! It was quite the experience, especially being an older trainee at 24 years old. I met, spoke with, and go to know many of the people in this very video. Col. Pixley(a genuine guy that seems to really care about Trainees, TSgt Dodson an MTI that struck a healthy fear into everyone of us in the 323rd but she also had our respect and showed she cared about our success, and even the CATM Instructor Mr. Brown who was horrible btw and perhaps the most toxic and unprofessional man I have met so far in the Air Force. I've made it through my Technical Training, also in Wichita Falls, AMMO! I have arrived at my first Duty Station and have absolutely loved my experience so far in the World's Greatest Air Force.

Pt was done in leather combat boots, jumping Jack's and a 1 mile run. Two days of rifle training, drill and a lot of classroom training. No graduation ceremony, finish basic and on the bus to your next school.

I went through basic (1976) and missed honor grad by one point. Then, four years later I retrained into Law Enforcement. Which at the time was a brand new AFSC not under Security Police. But the training was according to Security Police doctrines and standards. The training was brutal! Then they "Volunteered" me for ABGD....The Air Force's version of combat infantry. That was short but just as painful. I graduated #4 from the Police Academy. From then on there were seemingly endless FTX's and real-world field deployment. It was an endless state of Police Academy and ABGD level training all the time.

Yea about that, the "integration training" resulted in AF personnel still not (according the MAJ who was the OIC with a Technical Sergeant from the AF) able to leave the wire. Both AF fellas I worked with were awesome but their "boss" wouldn't allow them to leave the wire so we got creative to make it happen.

I went through in December 1975. We only handled the M-16 at the class room and the firing range. I scored 80 out of 80 at the range. 20 rounds fired at each position. Our TI had a big thing about the "heel beat". When we were marching and getting in sync, our heel beat became very loud and distinct. If he couldn't hear our heel beat, he would start screaming at us.

I did AFROTC back in 2016 and I was dead set on being a battlefield airman, that's what they called it back then, now it's special warfare airman I think. Anyway, I did one semester before I was told that I couldnt continue with the program because I have tattoos on my fingers and on my neck. I was super disappointed and bitter about it for years. Now, after seeing that my life has gone no where, working dead end job after job, going through life like if I'm waiting for something...anything to happen I decided I can't keep doing this and maybe that's what re-sparked my interest in the Air Force. I'm getting my tattoos lasered off, I'm gunna train, I'm gunna run, and I'm gunna swim cuz I still really want to be in special warfare. PJ, CCT, SR, TACP, I don't care, they're all kinda the same and I'd be super happy to land any one. I went to the offical site and says that the cut off age is 39 meaning I still plenty of time to get back at it and suceed this time around. Great vid btw.

Hey Jody, can you make a video on going over debt? I am trying to join, and up until recently I have found out if you have like an insane amount of credit card debt or certain type of debt like in collections that it may prevent you from joining. I was just hoping you can make a video covering all things in regards to debts and credit scores if that makes sense. Like maybe certain waivers or payment plans that can help you join regardless of debt? I hope that makes sense also lol.

Definitely much different than it was back in 1990.
During my 20 years, there was noticeable change in the knowledge and abilities of the new Airmen coming out of BMT.
I definitely think what is being taught now makes the newest generation of Airmen more complete when they leave BMT.
Glad to see the Bulldogs are still around though, for me it was the 3708 TRS.
Yeah, I'm old now. LOL ... but I would not trade those 20 years for anything.

I graduated basic training in Nov 1971. It was nothing like this is now. We were in the green machine, get 'em out as fast as possible. Chairforce...I never saw a chair once I got into the field. That is where I saw the real air force and it was just as challenging as any other branch of the military but required generally more technical education. We had the top 30% of ASVAB to work with. We may not have the reputation of being the greatest generation, we were veterans of Vietnam. We were damn good and damn proud of it.

Jody, I just stumbled on your video and reaction about the USAF basic. As you know, during Afghanistan and Iraq at the same time, the military response and personnel were very stretched as time went on. There needed to be many gaps filled by military branches not geared particularly for that role. Therefore, the Air Force and Coast Guard have expanded basic training to include more weapons and tactical training. The Army and Marines had been stretched to capacity during those campaigns. I remembered an incentive program called "Blue to Green" that offered Air Force personnel to switch branches to the Army to keep up with Army security and patrols. Even though the Coast Guard (another teased branch, "Puddle Pirates") already had much security training, they ramped up weapons and tactics training too besides the already highly established security response teams.

I went through BMT in July 1976.
I remember they had on flag poles a banner which pertained to weather temp and a Black Flag was basically- can't do anything outside.
And hating people who smoked- they were given like 10 minute smoke break- whilst if you didn't smoke- rest of airmen had to stay in formation.
I do remember- I didn't end up doing a final PT Test, the obstacle course and I never shot a rifle- since for some reason I was recovering from an illness at Wilford Hall.
Then after graduation- which I didn't attend- stayed for up to a week in different barracks waiting for tech school bus/orders to Sheppard (for Disbursement Accounting Specialist- Mil Pay)- where I ended up being a Red Rope.
I miss the tan uniforms but can live with or without the... Green Fatigues.
