There is an opening for adoption by people who don't bother about privacy, (so the people that do can message them securely) now Signal is dropping SMS support, produce a (simple) combined SMS and Session (text) App so that session users can get their friends and family to replace their SMS app, which removes the yet another message problem. (And if it were literally text only, then it might also be a way for those in the UK to have legal secure text messages, if the new law is specifically to target a certain type of image or video.)
how do you define "text-only" ? as in ASCII-printable chars? extended ASCII? if yes, what table? and and or \t are generally not considered to be printable, so what limits are set by the law?
