The clicking comes from an internal vibrator used in the backup/standby altimeter to make it less prone to lagging. If you pause @0:24 and look at the three instruments on the top left, you can see it in the middle, between the captain's main altimeter and the backup ADI. That particular instrument is known for being very loud and clicky!
Thank you! I fly CRJ2s with the backup analogue ASI/ALT and that's been driving me nuts. I've asked a couple line mechanics about it and they tell me its a fan or something with the CRTs, but those are AC and as soon as you turn the battery master on it starts ticking. It also doesn't happen on all the 200s (some have the newer digital standby instrument display). Mystery solved
Kinda interesting that it's still done with diskettes
Indeed, I believe this aircraft is from 1986? or 87.
@@aircraftaustralia4997the thing is even the A320, I believe, uses floppy disks in avionics. Maybe just because it is a reliable technology 😂
Why is the “power on” switch looks like you’re about to launch a nuclear intercontinental ballistic missile?
How many Floppy disk do you need to update it?
Just two, you can see me change it over and place it on the unit.
Please do a video comparing NG Electronics bay to Classic
If I get the chance to work on the classics again I'll 100% do that for ya.
Got a new subscriber here ! what an interesting fact thanks a lot!
Thanks for watching! More videos coming soon :)
Is the rapid ticking noise in the background an avionics fan?
