- Hey guys, I wanted to make this video to share what someone who has a terminally ill ferret might have to do throughout the day. I don't like to use the phrasing "terminally ill" but unfortunately it's the truth :( Thankfully, Gnar still has a lot of life and will to live in him. I try to use dry humor in sad moments because it helps me cope and I can't always be sad.. I have to enjoy the time I have left with him and poke fun at my chunky boy sometimes♡

Gnar Gnar is so cute (and so are the others). The lifespan of ferrets is not long enough. They grab your heart and never let go. I've heard many people say that the bond you develop with a ferret is more special than with most other pets. I agree 100%. The very worst thing about owning ferrets is losing them. It's devastating. All we can do is love them with everything we have while we are blessed to have them. You are lucky that Gnar Gnar likes laying with you. Cherish every second. I pray for a long, comfortable life for your adorable boy. You are doing a great job. God bless you both.

Aww Gnar is so adorable ❤️ He is clearly so loved and you’re such a good ferret owner. I know it’s hard going through something like this. When we found out my guinea pig Anna was really sick the vets said there wasn’t much they could do and we just had to make her comfortable. So I just kept loving on her until we had to put her to sleep a few weeks ago. ❤️ Just know that Gnar is living the best life possible with you! As long as you keep loving on him it’ll all be ok.

You are a great ferret mom they are lucky to have you! I have two babies because I have a very small place and I do all the upkeep, recently my boy Teddy decided to slip out, he got out in the snow while we were trying to air the place out from cooking, I'm always on top of their every move so the fact that I missed it made it that much more unreal to me. Here I am thinking I learned everything there is to know about ferrets but I was terribly wrong, he's never been outside in his entire existence he was gone for 30 hours we traced his tracks and squeaked his toys he didn't come out and he is so well trained so we thought for sure the worst had happened. Somehow he nosed his way back home and scratched on the door much like how he does with the doors in the house. Leaving at 7pm the night before he returns at 1:30am over a day later I looked out the door a hundred times that day and was actually looking out at the very same time he was standing there scratching I couldn't make this up of I tried. I did it so many times I was starting to think I was insane for thinking he would survive against all the odds against him and find his way back home no less. My boyfriend and I learned many things that day, one of them being that will to live has a lot to do with the love he experiences every day it keeps him going and vice versa, it keeps us going. I always tell him I think he's not of this world the way he gives so much affection and visibly enjoys every minute of it.. They know what you do for them, and they have such a small window for a lifespan so it's all the more special every bit of effort we put forth to keep them healthy and happy. This was a huge bit of insight because someday I know it's a fact of life that their health will decline, when the time comes I want him home knowing just how much we love him not out in the world scared and alone. I wasn't angry either, you can't take the instincts out of an animal no matter how domesticated they are and those very instincts and senses brought him home.. Teddy my boy is 2 and Peanut my girl is 3.. Seeing the reality of it and your optimism is so important it will show people first hand what it's like to be strong dealing with something like this. Keep on keeping on girl the world needs more people like you!!

@@MyFunkyFerrets I love how you say my baby because that's exactly what he is to me only people who do what we do each day understand how real that bond is and some people have never allowed themselves to be that close to an animal so they think you're bananas when you think of them as your baby. thanks for taking the time to reply and sending the love back felt the need to share that with someone who clearly loves their babies just as much as myself 😏😏💖💖 gonna subscribe I have a feeling your videos may be helpful in the future

Aww 😢 he’s not fat! He’s fluffy and sweet! My girl has a similar condition. At the moment she is still unbothered by her growth in the same area. I hope it stays that way, but it really does hurt when you try everything but there’s nothing that can be done. Glad he has such a great owner for the rest of his life. ❤

Poor Gnar Gnar. 😔 So sorry you're going through this. You are right about breeder ferrets. I have four breeder ferrets (and one Marshall boy). One of my breeder ferrets was diagnosed with DCM at two-years-old. She will be five this month.
I'm so sorry to hear about your baby :( I'm glad it's been so many years since her diagnosis though! I'm curious, is she on any type of medication for her DCM or is there nothing that can be done? I'm not too familiar with it
@@MyFunkyFerrets She is on pimobendan and Furosemide 3x a day and Enalapril every 48 hours. 1/4 tablet of pimobendan 3x a day; 0.3ml of the Furosemide morning and night and 0.15ml at 2 (I give her the meds at 6, 2, and 10); 1/4 tablet of Enalapril every 48 hours. I just mix them in a little bit of food and she eats them. It is, however, a progressive disease that will eventually take her. I am managing her symptoms with meds. It's all I can do for now. I don't know if you have ever heard of Joey the Trained Ferret. He had the same thing.
@@rachelcombs9858 oh wow that’s a lot.. poor girl, I’m so sorry you have to go through that with your baby :( yes I used to watch her videos about Joey all the time so that’s actually how I first heard of DCM! It’s somewhat similar to how I’m just managing Gnars lymphoma symptoms though it’ll eventually take him as well :/ I wish our pets could all live forever.. if only

I know this is 3 months old video but how much is for a ferret to get check with a vet I have two ferret and one of them have a cold n I don’t know what to do bc I just can’t afford a vet to be honest .

I’m feeding my ferret good cat food can he be healthy with that the cat food is expensive so it’s good and the first three ingredients ain’t nun weird
