    At the moment, I have five. They live in a room. We let them run the house an hour a couple nights a week. I spend on average two hours a day with them. Cleaning is constant. Ferret-proofing everything is a must. Medical care is expensive, and they do come down with conditions. Mass cell, alopecia, respiratory infections - if not treated immediately, the bacterial infections become life-threatening very quickly. They get into everything. Ferret owners know what it is to observe the tenacity of a ferret.
    In short, ferrets are the definition of “high maintenance”. Too often, people get a ferret and realize they are just too much. They languish and are ignored, left in poorly maintained cages, starve, and die of disease. Some find their way to ferret rescues and of the 15 I’ve shared company with, 11 have come from rescues. My most recent - Gus - was raised by feral cats. What these beautiful little creatures endure is heartbreaking.
    Please, think carefully before you add a ferret to your life. There is a requirement of time, effort, space and money.

    My husband and i adopted a polecat Theon from the RSPCA he had been there for a year and a half.No one wanted him.He bit me and gave me stitches but we persevered.We found he was terrified of a man who he must have had a bad experience with.He became a real softy with our love and patience and had his forever home.You have to put in the work, love and patience for these furry loves and the rewards will be ❤❤❤❤ Love for both of you and lots of fun.😂😂

    Thank you for creating this important list. I love my 4 ferrets so much but others need to know what is required before adopting.

    Excellent video as always! I think what breaks my heart the most is that people get ferrets and leave them caged much of the time. Sometimes even in rodent-sized cages.

      yep, its true unfortunately. Then they say its fine as they just sleep all day. Well, yeah, they sleep because there is nothing else to do!

    Lindy Hop, one of my favourite females, dug up and unpotted 18 of my Orchids. She had been left playing with a toy. It did not take her long to show me how easy it was to get started repotting the Orchids. If you have ferrets, you really need to have a sense of Humour to see how funny and clever they are. I volunteered at a ferret shelter. Quite rewarding to teach frightened defensive ferrets to trust humans to be kind to them. Sadly, I have just one ferret left. He is elderly now, Valentino was adopted from the shelter. He needs special care every day, but he his happy and I love him. When I had multi ferrets, I had a large ferret room for them. The cages were comfortable places for them to sleep with the partner of their choice. They had toys, boxes, tunnels and the run of the room. Be prepared to let your ferret out of their cage to exercise for at least 5-6 hours daily. They need their ears cleaned, toe nails clipped, teeth checked and vet wellness checks. The must be kept clean and entertained. Please make sure you have the time to devote to your ferret, have a great Vet. and love your ferret enough to give him or her the care deserved.

    My ferret I had as a teen had a homing instinct. He had managed to get out the doggie door once (unknown to me) and then just casually came back in.

    Baby ferrets nip. Adults outgrow it, but they do play by grabbing with their mouth. My ferrets have almost no skunky scent. They smell more like cut wood. They do did into furniture though. They steal anything they can carry or drag away. They can squeeze through something as small as a 1 inch gap. They cannot live in a cage full time like a hamster. Mine have their own bedroom with lots of toys, tubes to run through, and things to climb. Yes, they need a ferret friend.

    Thank you so so much for explaining exactly what a ferret needs and not gushing about "how cute" they are. They are way more curious than cats and if they really want something they will work out how to get it. Ours have a cage but that is just a bedroom for them and the (7 little shits) destroy the rest of the house when they're awake. Excellent channel and keep up the good work 👍

    Great video, many thanks. Could you please make video how should the ferrets be fed properly. Please share your experience in this regard and show how you feed your kobolds and how do you prepare the food. When ferret was fed wrong for a long time, food-change is often difficult, if you could share your experience here it would be great.

    How much should one expect to pay for a micro ferret? Do you know anything about Americans importing them?

    • @kingsdownferrets8485
      @kingsdownferrets8485  Рік тому

      Micros are not too dissimilar in price to normal ferrets. Perhaps a bit more at about £100 each. Exporting to USA is rare due to high cost. I don't know of any micros outside Europe yet.

    Is it true the darker the ferret the more aggressive they are ?

      All our kits are sold for this year. I've not heard that darker ferrets are kore aggressive before. Perhaps it is coincidence with a particular experience 🤔

      @@Jessiglitters we have 7 and one of my wife's (whinnie) bites me as soon as she gets the chance and she's the darkest of all 7, but my little Kira (also called casper 'cus she's white as a ghost) will run and jump at me just to bite my arm. All colours have their foibles lol, I look at it that if they bite and shake then they're happy and playing 👍
