I'll have to to give a quick listen to a few of these when I can actually chill and pay attention. As I mentioned, on instagram, I only heard The Killers and Duran Duran. My past year has been so busy I haven't paid much attention to new releases. I'm going to see Erasure in a couple weeks. I think John Mayer is in his 40s. He grew up a couple towns from me and attended my High School probably about three years after I graduated. Thanks Brian.
Excellent album by Royal Blood, love their first album too, heavy & darker than Typhoons. I discovered Cage The Elephant in 2021, great Albums. My top album is without a doubt DuranDuran Future Past. I'm very curious to check out some of your other choices especially Wolf Alice. Good choice with reissues on The Beatles & Radiohead, you have good taste. Thanks for the videos the past year.
Enjoyed the video and will definitely seek out your 2021 picks. I gave a listen to one of the new Duran Duran songs, "All of You," and greatly liked it, so I'll have to try out the rest of the album. Lots of great suggestions. :) I haven't sought out John Mayer previously, but I saw the new album in the store recently and the 80s inspired cover art caught my attention... will check it out. In return, you asked for a few albums that we enjoyed last year: Actually from 2021: 1) Angel Olsen- Aisles (EP of 80s covers... very ethereal. Reminds me of Cocteau Twins or someone that might play at the Roadhouse in Twin Peaks. Love Olsen's version of "Gloria") 2) Aimee Mann- Queens of the Summer Hotel (caught me by surprise- wasn't expecting a new album from her... especially love the song "Give Me Fifteen") 3) Tori Amos- Ocean to Ocean (hands down- I think this is her best since Scarlet's Walk- a friend of mine who loved her music passed away from Covid complications just before this was released and I think Tori's mother died during the making/or just prior to the making of this album, so the sense of loss resonated greatly) New music discoveries that I've recently enjoyed and never really listened to prior to 2021 (though they've each been around a while): 1) Sharon Van Etten- Remind Me Tomorrow (whole album is great... "Seventeen" was the flagship song that drew me in) 2) Matt Berninger- Serpentine Prison (love the whole album, but "Distant Axis" remained with me long afterward) 3) Cigarettes After Sex- Cry (enjoyed the entire album... David Lynch recommended them in one of his UA-cam Weather Report videos... I tend to enjoy his music suggestions) 4) Blake Mills- Mutable Set ("Farsickness" and "Money is the One True God" are both very powerful- at times, especially in the latter, the lyrics harken back to Patti Smith's writing style) 5) Roger Eno and Brian Eno- Luminous (listened to various Brian Eno albums over the years- this is another album that caught me by surprise- wasn't expecting a new album from Eno)
Still gonna opt for Future Past as my number 1 this year but your list is the best I've seen. Future Past is dripping with amazing performances, that's what stands out to me. Yes, many recent albums are really good and AYNIN is definitely a lightning strike but they guys dug deep, deep for this one and the performances within the songs are like nothing I've heard before. They are a band without a guitar player and while there's guitar in there and is it ever good, they 4 in the group just put in a little something more that makes each song as good as they can be. Just give it another spin and listen to the performances (John's bass in Nothing Less, Nick's "Just Right" soundscape in "Invisible", Roger's offering on "All of You", then there's Simon who found another level throughout. I thought Paper Gods was drafting a little off of the amazing success of AYNIN, Future Past created its own lane and is one that makes me happy it's here.
Really a good review, will be checking most of them. However, to me the two best albums of 2021 are ABBA's Voyage and Duran Duran's Future Past. So far no third album has come close to these two.
@@georgemour1806 There's nothing strange about that..Been a fan of their's since 79 and I am really glad they released this album. ABBA, Duran Duran & Depeche Mode are the three bands that I can never stop listening to.
@@dimahkhan5203 i like abba too and both DD and DM ,but their latest album of ABBA ,along coldplay's one ,are hands down among the worst albums of the last 12 months
@@georgemour1806 Everyone's got their opinion, but no matter what anyone thinks, ABBA's Voyage is the best album of 2021 with Duran Duran's Future Past next in line. As far as Coldplay, that's a good album, not their best but it does have a couple of good songs.
DURAN DURAN 👍💯❤ best album
Future past is a fantastic brilliant awesome amazing album 😊 it's my fav of 2021 no way can beat um totally they deserve it so well done buddy!!!!
Future Past by far the very best album of 2021. It’s just brilliant!
