    I think what's grooviest about these reactions is how open people are now to listen to music not in their lane. When this came out, rap fans listened to rap, metalheads to metal, and we kind of stuck to ourselves. But now rappers are listening to Tool, pop artists are listening to hip-hop, metal artists are vibing on pop, everybody's checking out stuff from each other in ways we didn't before. It's really nifty how all the "tribes" are meeting, interacting, and appreciating each other more and more. It makes me hopeful for our future, because appreciating each other is the first step towards caring for each other and actually improving the world.

      Was going to comment this before I saw so I just liked this comment and hopefully he will review that next! It's called "the golden triad" and it's an absolute masterpiece that is also just like a spiritual awakening for the soul! When it hits you it will make you realize just how genius Tool actually is it will make you realize alot of things about life and how we are all connected and how our own personal egos and our pride are meaningless and in many cases could even cause our own demise.. Tool is on another level compared to almost any other band and NO I don't have to get high to enjoy TOOL..they are like a natural high for me. The whole Lateralus album in my opinion is their best album and is something that will sound amazing generations from now in my humble opinion. Tool is definately like the new age Pink Floyd but they have their own unique style that no other band can imitate.

    I love this song. Takes me back to Bayridge Brooklyn days. I lived many ending. WTC 911, later mom past and last my beloved cat. Done with NY headed to Florida into Hurricane after hurricane but the night clubs, beaches, warm air and parties balanced it all out. I am still standing.

    Jamal - Thanks for entertaining us. You speak the truth!! I'm 56 years old and avid music fan with no real genre on my back. If it sounds good, it is good. I was introduced to them by listening to some bootleg basement, live shows in LA. When Opiate came out I was beyond hooked.
    Seeing them live for the first time, Aenima tour in '96 at the E-Center in SLC - After that show, I promptly drove to Nampa, ID and saw them again two nights later. Unforgettable.
    A recommendation from me to you would be Tool's Parabol as well as Reflection. Both from the Lateralus Album. Thanks again!!

      A mix of that and the California New Age scene of the time as embodied in the book "Nothing In This Book Is True..." which got into the 46+2 idea, the 3rd eye idea, the merkobah idea they got into on Salival, and a bunch of other ideas that were all around for a long time anyway but were pushed into the scene by that book.

    • @KsMes-gf7lx
      @KsMes-gf7lx 5 років тому +6

      Not the whole album. They were friends with Hicks and the album is dedicated to him, but it’s not taken from him and it’s not about him.

    • @brettmarlar4154
      @brettmarlar4154 5 років тому +3

      There were themes throughout the album that were Hicks' concepts on which they expanded. Third Eye is an example of this, hence the addition of the snippet from Bill's bit about the war on drugs. I would say that the writing process for the album was heavily influenced by the pass8ng of their friend.

    • @theivory1

    To be more specific...this song is about Maynard James Keenans (vocalist) dislike and distaste for the city of Los Angeles. At the time ‘this song was written he and his band mates lived there for several years, Maynard hated it and is the only band member who doesn’t live there now. He moved to AZ like 25 years ago. So when he sings flush it all away he’s talking about LA
