Jamila I don't know if you will ever read this comment, but I just wanted to say thank you! I just recently found your channel and I absolutely love your videos. I've been at a small but sweet cafe this morning, for a breakfast date and I applied all your tips on etiquette. I felt so good at the end! I didn't make a mess of the table, leaving crumbs everywhere or got my fingertips sticky with food or had the need to constant wipe my mouth because of crumbs or Marmelade. I think it would be great if you could do a video about the "why" behind table manners. There are so many comments like "Let ppl eat the way they want" and ppl perceiving table manners as stiff. But while some of them are "over the top", most of them are sheer politeness. Like not forcing others to hear you eat, not forcing others to see food in your full mouth, not excluding others from conversation by blocking them from your seat neighbour by putting your arms and elbows in their line of sight, not expecting others to be fine with you touching food on shared plates

In the US, there is a LOT of pressure for celebrities to look as thin as possible while making it seem effortless, but “relatable”. Celebs who want to remove negative stigma/questions regarding their exceptionally slim figures tend to place high emphasis on being seen and photographed extravagantly enjoying food. I think, these actresses and models are eating with extreme specific intention to appeal to the masses as “one of us”
Yes this is very true! I was surprised at this video as someone who eats informally. Half of the things Zendaya was doing didn't even seem comfortable, like waving spoons in the air, having her elbows high above the table, and having a fork clash with her teeth. She's definitely exaggerating. Nowadays people pressure celebrities to be "relatable" otherwise they are called stuck up. Which is funny because #1, celebrities will never actually be relatable, and #2 they complain about famous people being fake all the time meanwhile they're literally asking for them to be fake and pretend to be "one of them" so that they don't feel bad about themselves.
Well it backfired, imo. Even before I watched this video when watching Zendaya, I could tell something was wrong with her manners, even if I couldn't put my finger on every detail. The idea that celebrities think we eat like that is concerning

Video idea: Differences between British, American, French, and Italian etiquette. Some things are the same but some things are quite different (like the elbow on the table thing). It would be great to know the differences and know where to do what! 😃😃
I watched the Vogue India Q&A and many young fans of Zendaya said they liked the way she eats!!! that she eats like a normal person, but I have never seen anyone eat in such a crude manner in my life. I like Zendaya and realize she was not taught dining manners and she should learn them.
She's in this beautiful ensemble, looking all spruced up for a party, then proceeded to munch as if she's at home out of the public eye. It's nice to have "relatable" public figures but I'm not sure she sets a good example for her young fans this way.
Purposely making myself unrefined and graceless in order to appease others and come off as “down to earth” is something I will never do. It’s clear to me women celebrities do this in order to keep their fans from calling them prissy. The irony of course being them putting on a act in order to seem “natural” 😭
@@missn111 Sometimes. A lot of them are getting movie and TV roles from their parents in the industry so they grew up wealthy and attending galas. Some of them know better and since demonizing those with manners and associated money is very prevalent in the US, American wealthy purposely “dumb” their behavior down when the cameras are on. She even goes as far to purposely give herself bad posture. I’m sure she doesn’t behave this way in private when she wants to impress someone.
@@missn111 Yes!! What's crazy to me is that a lot of these things are basic table manners. The fine things like organizing plates and silverware is fancy yes, but not putting your elbows on the table when you eat? That's standard politeness. Your wine example is another good one. I never learned etiquette, but who wants warm champagne? It is common sense not to hold it in that area.
You got it wrong, it's the other way around. They should be a role model for their fans. They lead their fans not that they think of they might not like their act.

Minute 3:45 or so, the cheese and bread. OMG my mom would die if she sees this. This was one of the first things she taught me and my brother: you don't eat bread in big chunks like that (even less taking those bites!), and the elbows are off the table at all time while you eat. And the video is not even 1/3 through! I'm totally staying for Jamila`s lessons, not for Zendaya`s table manners. 😱
Some of the things my step brother thought me while growing up is to close my mouth when chewing, and don't talk when you have lots of food in your mouth..simple table manners.. but you will be very surprised not alot of people know it, im constantly irritated whenever i eat with friends..Lol, and my family wasn't even rich, we were poor

@@jasminethegrayknight absolutely. In some cultures burping at the table is a complement lol but when you grow up or come to the west, you are taught table manners. Even just basic table manners at least. But I think she was just trying to be funny. I’m sure she doesn’t actually eat like that.
I was starting to over-obsess with etiquette, but watching zendaya really made me realize its not that serious. this girl is literally getting interviewed by VOGUE, was on the cover many times, is the face of lancome and who knows what else she does even though her etiquette is considered very bad. Personally, I feel more comfortable to have some basic knowledge about etiquette but I will definitely feel more relaxed now in formal settings, thinking about zendaya. At the end of the day it's really not that deep, and honestly it made me feel a bit robotic to over-obsess over every little detail, I couldn't even enjoy the moment because I was over thinking about having the right etiquette. For sure, not anymore. But to each their own. however someone feels most comfortable.
Just like almost every other aspect like fashion, beauty, career and education, the world expects us to meet its high standards even when it comes to something like eating. These overly complicated rules “to eat” are way too formal and fake and not everyone has the energy to meet these standards all the time. Life is so much more than judging people based on how they consume their meal they buy from their on money
Thank you so much for the informative video. I always apply the knowledge I gain from your videos and people I dine with are pleased with my manners. Some ask me where I learned to upgrade my social skills, and I tell them it’s from you/ your channel. So please keep it up. I can’t wait to learn more and to have your books on my hands 🤍 I love Italian food. I order pasta each time and I even wear white. I don’t leave a mess. Many praise to you Miss Jamila. I hope that etiquette & table manners become popular in the Philippines. One time I placed my plate on a pause position then excused myself. When I returned my plate is gone. Even some of the servers do not know table etiquette. I hope this doesn’t happen again. At the end of the day etiquette is respect, and when everyone is respectful to each other, then the world will be a better and safer place.
Thank you for clarifying "my cheeseborad"/"our cheeseboard problem". I went for an afternoon tea, everything was for me only, but I was still trying to do your " to my plate on the scone" practice, but by the end of it, my plate looked awful, so I guess in this case I could have served myself directly from the jam/clotted cream bowl. I love Zendaya, and I loved her video so much. My focus was mainly on her answers, how smart and direct she was. How she was eating? she was enjoying it, and that what matters.
I agree. I was only focus too how clever ,smart and fast the way she read the question and gave answers in one second. At the same time, She enjoyed the Italian food. Her message is more important than dining etiquette.
Thank you for another beautiful and very helpful video! Could you please do a video on how to eat casual foods more elegantly? Where I live we eat a good amount of chicken wings, tacos, hamburgers, etc. which inherently are messy.
Actually here in Italy I was told the lasagna, being a "primo" (first course) should be eaten only with the fork using the side to cut pieces and not the knife. This being said...I have a feeling most people here just use the knife because if the sides are a bit dry it is easier.
Italian here, not true at all. I eat lasagna and ravioli (if they aren't super small, they usually aren't) with fork and knife, like the majority of the people at the restaurant. Same way for eggplant parmesan and other similar stuff like crespelle. Eating those kind of food only with fork is messy because it's more difficult to create bite size pieces in a neat way. :)
@@lalala123stella I know and agree, it is just "galateo" saying that primo should be eaten only with fork...but most of the time it is definitely less messy cutting up big ravioli and lasagna with a knife!
This is giving me so much anxiety 🙈 I attended many formal lunches, now this video is giving me flashbacks of few of my bad table manners that I attracted attention to. “Best manners is drawing less attention” 🫢 I wish I had found you few years ago😭 Thank you so much for your valuable teachings offered on UA-cam.
We are so blessed to have you, Jamila! It's Restaurant Week until late August here in NYC, and I will be dining with my friend who I haven't seen for years next week. I'm studying in the hospitality sector so some of this is familiar to me but it's always so nice to refresh my knowledge on dining etiquette. Now all I need is a charming cocktail dress and tasteful jewelry!🥰
Elbows on the table are PTSD killing me! :) Over the years I've learned it's very illuminating to eat with people, observing whether they are aware of etiquette or not. Just interesting and nothing else honestly.
Property pronouncing someone’s name is also an excellent way to show both respect, and proper etiquette. :) Thank you so much for all the work you put into these videos!
Great video Jamila, I learned from it very much so thank you. May I kindly ask you to make a video about eating hard to eat foods like spagetti, olive with seed in it, rice and so on. It will be wonderful lesson because I couldn't find any information about it. Thank you again. Also it's sweet to see celebrities while eating, it shows there is no perfection in this life.
I find eating burgers (especially if it has a lot of toppings) and chicken to be way more difficult to eat gracefully than spaghetti. One day I was eating chicken thighs for lunch, and I’m sitting there with chicken juice all over my fingers just looking like a messy child lol. I look over at my co-worker and she’s eating her chicken with a knife and fork, looking so poised and feminine. That was the day I realized I needed to learn proper dining etiquette 😂
the comments are so critical and hateful. i love how she is herself. let her be. i enjoyed every bit of thr video. let her eat freely man. as long as she doesn’t open her mouth while chewing i don’t mind.
Same.I mean who tf we are to tell how she should eat. People are saying Zen is inspiration for many young girls but zen never tell anyone to eat like her. I'm also a teenager and i don't blindly get inspired from everything celebrities do. I have common sense to know what should i follow and what i shouldn’t.
Thank you for this video! I'm always careful to take notes. I hope that you had a wonderful birthday! I think that you have a point about spontaneity, although I struggle with this. When I went to Japan once, I was offered a 'bib' when I ate curry, for lack of a better word. These are also common at some grilled meat places! I accepted it because it seemed to be what many others were doing.
Thank you for the video. I've been taught that traditionally one always turns a fork upright before bringing food to the mouth. I'm not sure when it becamse into pop culture to eat with a fork upside down. But no. We never do this. Cut your food, pierce with fork, turn fork right side up, then into mouth. =) Hence the design of a fork, allowing the fork to remain upside down allows risk of dropping food on the way to your mouth. Turning it right side up, is how it was designed to function.
Your videos are absolutely beautiful. Would be grateful if you could make one ,on how women can maintain their classy and elegant behaviour , during arguments or if ever being provoked into one . ❤
In Turkey, We have a habit of eating with our right hand, which is a cultural and religious trait. I usually prefer to use the fork with my right hand, even if it's not just for that reason.
I thought about you as soon as I watched this Vogue episode. ☺️ I remember you made a video for the previous one. I was happy to see this video as well. Great content as always.💕

Zendaya is one of my fav. girls….a sweetheart she is, but my word 😮🙄 those indelicate hand movements combined with the blue eye shadow) which on its own is very nice), but this combination is making her look rough and mean. Reminds me of the manager of the orphanage in the movie Annie. This is a good reminder for all of us….we too, look this way when we are not delicate and refined in our mannerisms!
Another great vid. I really appreciate the effort you put in preparing them. Congrats. 👏🏾 Is there such a thing as ballroom etiquette for today's times? Also can you give advice on serving or eating h'orderves i.e. finger foods, when you're expected to be standing up. I.e. not at a table? Thx.
Hello. So often when dining, servers do not retrieve empty plates and cutlery when the conversation and perhaps beverages continue. What is the acceptable way/location to move items away if they are going to remain on the table for an indeterminant time, which is often only not until the diner leaves? In addition, I personally abhor stacking but sometimes there is no alternative. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

I know, I've seen wild animals eat with more class than she has. Yuck, very unappetising to watch her feed.
Yes!
She's in this beautiful ensemble, looking all spruced up for a party, then proceeded to munch as if she's at home out of the public eye. It's nice to have "relatable" public figures but I'm not sure she sets a good example for her young fans this way.
You are joking right? The arrogance in your comment is laughable.
They do it that way on purpose. They want to influence women to be classless
When the staff tells you to tuck the napkin into your blouse because you are a terrible with your table manners......
It was so cringe watching her eat in this video…😔 she very Tom boy and don’t care and it’s fine to be like this but sometimes it’s a through off.
You got it wrong, it's the other way around. They should be a role model for their fans. They lead their fans not that they think of they might not like their act.
I know she’s enjoying her food but to be honest I think she should’ve at least a lil bit elegance manner.”Don’t pretend,be yourself”…i know this quote but to be honest we can still be ourselves by upgrading and learning new things.Just don’t be yourself, upgrade yourself guys!
Exactly, being 'yourself' isn't about being messy or mannerless.
@@starlsma2000 bruh so many of these things seem sooo damn meaningless.
People that act like this are really embarrassing because she's trying to be "relatable" in the sense that " people don't actually eat like that. " I know she knows to be descent at the table as well. It frustrates me so much!
I hope we will continue to see more videos like this, seeing the approaches and solutions side by side is phenomenal for learning and to directly see the difference proper etiquette makes. Thank you kindly for sharing your insight so graciously and for encouraging us to elevate to be the best we can be and to honor those around us
Minute 3:45 or so, the cheese and bread.
The blue, the snake watch, the classy makeup- you look very stunning ✨❤️
Definitely, her dress is extraordinary here 😍
Absolutely love your videos. I feel like we aren’t taught proper etiquette in these days, therefore we don’t realize how much we need it. It’s not until we see videos like this and realize we need some serious help. 😂
Thank you 😊
@@JamilaMusayeva Anytime 😊👍
I think it depends on culture too. there’s different etiquette based on where you’re from.
@@jasminethegrayknight absolutely. In some cultures burping at the table is a complement lol but when you grow up or come to the west, you are taught table manners. Even just basic table manners at least. But I think she was just trying to be funny. I’m sure she doesn’t actually eat like that.
Thank you for existing ❤️🥺❤️🥺❤️❤️
Aww thank you 🙏🏻
Happy Birthday Jamila!
Thank you for your surprise video, it was much appreciated. God bless you.
I wholly agree. Too much formality appears to be fake and unattractive to me.
Really? I think the rules are super easy. Just eat as if you have time, interest in others and you are not stuffing yourself making a mess
@@bjulalula9537 Well these are basic table manners, I’m talking about the proper etiquette rules
@@gigisnippets6525 but she had no basic manners.
Thank you so much for the informative video. I always apply the knowledge I gain from your videos and people I dine with are pleased with my manners. Some ask me where I learned to upgrade my social skills, and I tell them it’s from you/ your channel. So please keep it up. I can’t wait to learn more and to have your books on my hands 🤍
I love Italian food.
This "reaction" video was extremely effective! Would love to enjoy more with this format! Perfection!
Can’t wait for more reaction videos! Haha but also, the thumbnail made me giggle. ☺️
Celebrities are not elegant! They’re the living example that elegance doesn’t equal money!
Thank you for the rest of the useful tips on eating pasta and taking a break while eating a desert as well. Also loved your earrings, reminded me that I need to buy a couple them. :-)
Happy birthday, Jamila! I always appreciate your videos because you epitomize grace and classy in a world of not-so-classy people. Although my mother taught me table manners early, I watch your videos to reinforce my manners. You are a true role model. 🍷💕
I’m gonna watch these videos until im dead ,it’s good to not look like a fool eating at a fine dining restaurant.
Learning is fun.
Wow, what a huge contrast between proper meal etiquette and terrible etiquette. Thank you for your videos. It is what's needed in todays barbaric behavioral society.
Thank you
I love all of your reaction videos and they have taught me so much about etiquette. I often use the knowledge I have gained from watching your videos to do my job at a bed and breakfast. Thank you!!💛
I love Zendaya, and I loved her video so much.
She's just using her as an example
Stop being so sensitive
@@Yasomine.888 why does she just can't just leave Zendaya alone ?
Thank you for another beautiful and very helpful video! Could you please do a video on how to eat casual foods more elegantly? Where I live we eat a good amount of chicken wings, tacos, hamburgers, etc. which inherently are messy.
I love this series! You’ve helped me so much, thank you 🙏🏽
Actually here in Italy I was told the lasagna, being a "primo" (first course) should be eaten only with the fork using the side to cut pieces and not the knife.
I am just glad that she was normal. Eat like normal human. Not some lady from highest from high society
This is giving me so much anxiety 🙈 I attended many formal lunches, now this video is giving me flashbacks of few of my bad table manners that I attracted attention to. “Best manners is drawing less attention” 🫢
I wish I had found you few years ago😭 Thank you so much for your valuable teachings offered on UA-cam.
Great video, educational and I really learnt a lot. Thank you so much for doing an amazing work!
Elbows on the table are PTSD killing me! :) Over the years I've learned it's very illuminating to eat with people, observing whether they are aware of etiquette or not. Just interesting and nothing else honestly.
You are so right Ms Garza, it infuriates me as well
Happy Birthday to our most beautiful lady. May god bless you and fulfill all your wishes.........Lots of love and light. ❤❤❤💖🎂🎂
It's quite extraordinary how many people consume their food in an inelegant manner.
Happy Birthday, Jamila! I hope you had the most wonderful day, thank you for all the help you kindly put out in the world! 🍰✨
Right now i am eating lunch lying down in my bed... watching UA-cam with left hand...and eating food with right hand which is placed on my bed. 🤘
Property pronouncing someone’s name is also an excellent way to show both respect, and proper etiquette. :) Thank you so much for all the work you put into these videos!
Thank you 🙏🏻
Great video Jamila, I learned from it very much so thank you.
Totally agree
I find eating burgers (especially if it has a lot of toppings) and chicken to be way more difficult to eat gracefully than spaghetti. One day I was eating chicken thighs for lunch, and I’m sitting there with chicken juice all over my fingers just looking like a messy child lol. I look over at my co-worker and she’s eating her chicken with a knife and fork, looking so poised and feminine. That was the day I realized I needed to learn proper dining etiquette 😂
As always this video is also helpful to us😊looking pretty😍
Merci pour tous ces conseils ! C'est un plaisir de regarder vos vidéos 🙂
I love the reaction videos. They are the live examples of how we eat in a setting.
Glad you like them!
I love those videos where you show etiquette with examples. If you haven't already, a video on how to hold a glass and eat apero would be great.
Thank you!
@@JamilaMusayevacan you please show us how to ... simple mc donald's meal but with style🙏🙂

Very well explained, I enjoyed this video so much thank you 🌹
I’m curious about your hair line It’s sooo structure and idk how you manage to do it
Make up and hair spray I guess
Women in the Middle East usually remove the hair on the whole face, including the forehead.
It looks like she shaves all of her baby hairs off.
I think she shaves it

Absolutely beautiful. From your clothes down to the way you speak, absolutely inspiring for me! 💗
More videos like this please I love learning from you ❤️✍🏼🤓
I truly enjoy how you explain everything. Thank you 🥂
your videos are incredibly helpful, thank you very much!
As usual another beautiful colourful lively session. Learned a lot of table manners and etiquettes. 🙂😊.
The switching of the fork from left hand to right hand was to slow down people from eating too fast.
the comments are so critical and hateful. i love how she is herself. let her be. i enjoyed every bit of thr video. let her eat freely man. as long as she doesn’t open her mouth while chewing i don’t mind.
agreed. it was a fun little video & she was hungry, thats how 99% of the human population eat
It's toddler behaviour
Same.I mean who tf we are to tell how she should eat. People are saying Zen is inspiration for many young girls but zen never tell anyone to eat like her. I'm also a teenager and i don't blindly get inspired from everything celebrities do. I have common sense to know what should i follow and what i shouldn’t.
I love these videos where we can see the mistakes, they help a lot because u clarify what to do instead or why that was a mistske in the first place 😊
There is an extra space in your title. But great video and idea. I love your content a lot!
Thank you so much ❤️❤️❤️!!! I love how you teach, and the respect you show!
Thank you!
You are at the Marriott Baku.. and you are Azerbaijani :-) this is wonderful.. We use to live across the road ;-) wonderful presentation .. Inshallah
Thank you 🙏🏻
I really look forward to these videos! I learn so much 😍
Thank you 🙏🏻
In Turkey, We have a habit of eating with our right hand, which is a cultural and religious trait. I usually prefer to use the fork with my right hand, even if it's not just for that reason.
Jamila, your channel holds invaluable information on etiquette. Congratulations and thank you!
Thankfully, dining etiquette is not the focus of the Vogue video. Anyone with common sense would get that. The comments are so snobby.
I thought about you as soon as I watched this Vogue episode. ☺️ I remember you made a video for the previous one. I was happy to see this video as well.
Great content as always.💕

My beautiful Jamila, Please make a video about picnic etiquette. Thanks a lot...
Happy Birthday Jamila ❤

Is there such a thing as ballroom etiquette for today's times? Also can you give advice on serving or eating h'orderves i.e. finger foods, when you're expected to be standing up. I.e. not at a table? Thx.
Hello. So often when dining, servers do not retrieve empty plates and cutlery when the conversation and perhaps beverages continue. What is the acceptable way/location to move items away if they are going to remain on the table for an indeterminant time, which is often only not until the diner leaves? In addition, I personally abhor stacking but sometimes there is no alternative. Thank you for your attention to this matter.
Happy birthday! 🎉
