I haven’t personally played any of the silent hill games but I’ve watched pieces of carcis walkthroughs. Isn’t Cheryl the main character girl from silent hill 3 ?
After watching the whole thing... This was extremely useful :) I had no idea turning off the flashlight can help you avoid enemy attacks. When I was in the last section, those shadow children would fuck me up so much, and I had no healing items left, so when I had to fight the Incubus, one hit would kill me. It was so difficult and took me dozens of tries, but I eventually did it. One of the most satisfying things I've done in any game. Also, looking back... This game is so fucked up. I don't know how I played this all the way through when I was 15, this is disturbing as hell. The sound design was amazing, the industrial heavy music was so unsettling and kept you tense, and the fact the game purposefully tries to fuck with your mind and confuse you... It's excellently executed. Even though Resident Evil kinda has an edge over this series with gameplay, Silent Hill is totally more horrifying and symbolic. Even though the inventory is infinite, the survival aspect, especially on hard, is still extreme. You would never know if it's worth it to explore areas to get items you need and risk getting attacked, or if you should just continue the story with what few items you have left. Konami should really be ashamed they let this series deteriorate.
Some memories I have about this game as I was getting heavily into the Survival Horror genre is that I would obsessively study about the game. I recall reading things online that this game was particularly difficult to get a hold of. One day, I found a nearly brand new copy of it. I had the $15 they wanted for it. You bet I got that. I played it a ton, certainly the Silent Hill I have played the most. Out of many games, I believe this game deserves a remaster, same playthrough and such. Just a clear definition.
I legit tried to play this when I was around 5 on my PS1 and ended up changing disc to Crash Bandicot after a few minutes into that first dark alley. Fuck that.
This game reminds me of my cousin who sometimes sleep over in our house. He makes me play this each night he was there so he can watch 'til it makes him feel sleepy. He was a guitarist on an underground metal band back then. Weirdest dude I knew.

@@genericsavings I wouldn't say it was scary until mr x an after I learn how he works his scare factor went away. Then It had the horrible 2nd run an claire an leon story being too identical. It was a fun game but had changed to much stuff that the story didn't make much sense.
Dante Vic my first play through was on hardcore, so I think that factored into the scariness. The one hit dangers really made the game tense. On the other hand, I’d be limping away trying to get a health item; and a zombie(that was playing dead earlier) gets me from a blind spot. Lose a half an hour of progress. This happened several times 😡
@@genericsavings I get that. I didn't have that experience from playing hardcore but that was more to that I didn't want to lose all my progress since I was doing the S+ run. I did that right after I finished my first normal run with no practice. It too me a week to do it.
Just when I think you don’t have anymore tricks up your sleeve. You reveal this masterpiece. Amazing job Carci and keep up the great work. I really hope you attempt this with Silent Hill 3 next someday! ;3
Seeing your strats and you had reason of the headphones, love your no damage runs helps for me when could skip certain enemies or how to deal more easy with them.
I'm more than a fan to your gaming skills considering you ace and master the games i love to play and you play them with style i still wonder how many times i watched your videos and forget to sub every time! Corrected now and subbed! You made me turn on my old consoles and enjoy the memories of the good old days! Gladly my consoles still work and the cd's still spin!
Carci, thanks for your work, I think your skills and commentary are always great. Recently I was playing Dino Crisis with an emulator (I still have the physical copy but I don't wanna use my old PSX), I think that emulators could be a great resource for speedrunners because with the quicksaves you can time very specific sections of games and find the best route. Maybe you use this strategy all the time, I don't know. Cheers Man.

I mean I suppose it's possible she survived but didn't end up being in a relationship, but that wouldn't make sense given the implications in the good+ ending in Silent Hill 1.

Good lord this game... its one of the few horror games I cannot complete in one sitting; The sounds, music, monsters.... dear god, like it has a backdoor to the fear center in my head.
I thought about doing some speedruns, but honestly my brain isn't good enough to remember ALL the paths/doors in this game. Glad that I'm not the only one making wrong turns even on subsequent playthroughs haha.

My friend used to play it on his ps1 when we were kids, I just came along and sit watching his streams. Cool stuff, and it is great that game looks basically exactly how I remember it, after 20 years. As for hardmode it seems challenging but easier than in SH3, caz of this cheating with light.
Now that I properly think about it is Harry stutter walking after running like during that floatstinger fight is a hidden mechanic of the hard difficulty like James can randomly run into an invisible wall during running in hard difficulty? Or is it pure chance after certain conditions met like having Harry run in a circle?
I remember when I played this with my cousins back in 2004 or 2005. I cried so much during the scene @ 3:05, seeing that corpse with its skin stripped off. Good times!
