      The whole thing was like that. The interviewer made it seem like life in the jungle was hell, and then when interviewing the last woman who describes how she was told she HAS to wear heels, and to act like a 'woman' the interviewer is just like 'do you think integration is hard?' The woman goes on to say she misses the jungle, and its clear shes not a fan of how she was lied to... The interviewer just ignores all that and just has softball questions. idk this was hard to watch from a subjective frame of mind. @@EyFmSThis rebellion started because of poverty. Many people were not educated and didn't even know about the USA. Then, the local leaders saw a chance to promote their Marxist and anti-USA beliefs. Sadly, some Colombians who got help from the United States used it against them to show why they need more money and political control in the country.

    It's incredible how people expect everyone in a revolutionary movement to be able to talk or do a discourse about political theory... most people can't do this and this is fine. The 20 years old girl doesn't need to understand the minutiae of theory, she doesn't need to fully grasp Marxist concepts, because she is living it. She witnessed oppression and class struggle, she is enduring it. She is taking part in a movement and learning as she goes. This is natural. Imagine if we asked every Christian about Trinitarianism doctrine. How many Christians would be able to talk about it? Is someone less of a believer (or a lesser Christian) for not knowing about the Trinitarianism doctrine? How many people in a capitalist society could talk meaningfully about market-oriented economies? How many would only look like they are parroting propaganda or coach-talk?
    Especially because, for a Marxist, what one thinks (their thoughts) is secondary to what one does (their actions). Action begets thought. Following Pascal: you don't pray because you believe, you believe because you pray.

      Gloria Steinem worked for the CIA. This is well documented and she even acknowledges and defends it in her autobiography. This video, while informative in many ways, has a very strong pro-U.S. imperialist tilt reflected in its silence on the horrors facilitated by the U.S.'s "Plan Colombia," its casting of doubts on the articulate statements of the women FARC combatants, its disproportionate and largely uncritical focus on the question of "reintegration," and its reliance on the analysis of the U.S. Institute for Peace spokesperson without making clear that the USIP is an instrument of U.S. foreign policy. The bookending of the video with commentary by Steinem is entirely in keeping with this tilt in view of her personal history working for the CIA infiltrating student and youth activist gatherings in the 1960s.

      De-legitimizing the enormous, uncountable number of Spanish-speaking native North-Americans, and the various cultures planted here simply because of her.. skin color(?)/Western-ness(?), is ironically the most regressive and backward thing you could have done here. Bravo!
      Now if you're talking about her/Vice's perspective that's one thing, but to chalk it down to base racism or nationalism, or to mock someone with a different dialect as a linguistic elitist with your no sé/no sabo reference, marks you as ignorant, and again, very ironically, representative of the good old fashioned toxicity in classical machismo culture, that is prevalent in most Latino cultures.

    • @TemenosL
      @TemenosL 3 місяці тому

      If you would have actually experienced any of the various cultures that have become ingrained in North American culture, you'd realize how ridiculous you sound. Spanish (mostly Mexican-based), is the second-most spoke language here. 47 million, or 17%, of the population is Hispanic. While it's absolutely true that there are clueless, conventionally "white" Americans that just aren't with the program, America isn't a single color or ethnicity or background, and to label "American" as exclusively "yo no sabo", utterly de-legitimizes the citizenship and shared identity of the rest of the nation, who have fought hard as hell to be recognized as equals here.
      Triply-ironic given your stance, is the fact that your location is listed as CANADIAN.
      Indigenous? Quebecois? If not, an ignorant person could use your same argument against you.
