I left San Francisco 6 years ago, and it was the best thing I've ever done. My rent was going from 1800 to 2000/month (for a 350 sq foot in-law suite). I had my car broken into, in my own driveway 2x in the same month then at work with the window smashed the next month (total of 5x in the 6 years I was there, and i lived in a good area. Sunset District). I had to live about an hour from work, and paying $3.50/gallon, at that time was brutal. By the time I was leaving even my neighborhood was rapidly devolving. A bunch of homeless folks took over an abandoned hotel down the street. It literally smelled awful, littered trash and needles everywhere, and I heard a couple gunshots one night. That's when I said screw this and applied for a job elsewhere.

That isn't the only reason. I lived in Calif all my 66 yrs but left last June. Here's why:
      - tried to report a crime THREE times but cops never did take it, even hung up on me "I'm doing the traffic report, don't have time to talk".
      - not just housing is expensive - EVERYTHING is waaay too expensive, gas, food, insurance of all kinds, housing, all of it.
      - people have NO idea what is actually going on in this country.
      - unless you are a huge liberal, you aren't welcome there.
      - way too many people
      - not enough housing.
      - idiotic laws which make no sense
      - crime has gotten to high
      - in San Francisco and probably some other places they now have made it a law you can't arrest anyone for shoplifting anything worth less than $1,000.
      - I'm retired - they keep raising cost of Medicare so they can pay the illegals. Don't believe me? It says right on the govt website they are providing free medical for EVERYONE, that means illegals as well and there are tons of them in Calif.
Yes it's still beautiful in many places but in most places especially the coast, wildlife is almost nonexistant compared to a few decades ago. In my new home in another state, husband and I now have $1,000/month more money than we did in Calif.

I basically grew up in California and it has gone downhill ever since. Cities in California are looking like a giant trash bin these days especially Oakland, downtown San Francisco, San Leandro ,Hayward and downtown Los Angeles. These cities have out of control crime and most of all homeless encampment all over. Not to mention lot and lots of illegal dumping everywhere where you will see trash such as mattresses and other household junk just tossed on the sidewalks and sometimes in the middle of the street. Downtown San Francisco is another story which has been a sewer pretty much since the 80's. Crime has gone so bad that in my city of Hayward and San Leandro there are car breakins every week. I talked to police officers and I asked them what happens to people who get arrested for theft and other small crime, the police officer said that they are kept in jail for 8 hours only and then let go wit ha fine with the new catch and release policy. In California an average person can no longer afford a home along with high cost of living and high taxes. This state has gone down the hill and pretty much you will see lots of people leaving California where the politicians had made this state more miserable.

Moved to the LA area from Ohio in 2019 to support a family member. SoCal is not for the faint of heart or underfunded. That said, opportunities for hilarious observation abound: man walking a full sized pig down the sidewalk on a leash, MANY walk their small dog in a baby stroller, and some emerge wearing a 'winter' puffy coat whenever the temperature dips into the 60's. Late one memorable afternoon, a small airplane landed on the 12-lane freeway in front of me. After landing, it pulled over to the side until only a wing blocked part of one lane. Two guys hop out and traffic immediately resumed as though nothing unusual just happened!

I was born in N.Y. and left when I was 19. It was the early 70s and I left for the West Coast.
L.A. and Orange County was beautiful and fun. The living was easy and the rents were LOW! There was never, ever a boring moment and rich in culture. Theres the mountains to hike, the beaches to play and every thing in between!
For many years, it was the place to be.
I lived in Long Beach, Monterey, Santa Barbara and Sacramento.
Sacramento, although beautiful is very high in drugs and crime.
I lived in CA for 46 years and I watched in horror, as the decades past, just how much it decayed and that because of all the corrupt liberal policies that have ruined the state.
As a result, crime sky rocketed. If you didn't literally lock your belongings down, it was stolen!
Needless to say, we had had it.
We moved to Florida 3 years ago. The quality of life here is far superior.
We have an excellent Gov. Ron DeSantis who is a no nonsense, marine tough kind a guy. Things are going pretty well here.
So relieved we moved from CA. . .although I do miss the Mexican food! (Glad I learned how to make it before I left, because, sadly, Florida has a shortage of good Mexican resturants.
In CA you can go in and order delicious nachos and salsa almost anywhere! Not here in Florida tho. Something as simple as nachos seems oddly, off.
Anyway, a side from that, Florida is a great place to settle.

I recall one of the first places I visited was historical Olvera Street tasting my first taquitos with guacamola!
In those days you could do a nice stroll around Sea Port Village, then have a sumptuous dinner on the Princess Louise!
I would go to Dodger Statium with my friends after work and enjoy the wind- down of friendly chatter, with a dinner of Dodger-dogs and beer. Baseball is a slow, easy game and fun on a Friday evenings.
On beautiful days we'd go sailing around Palos Verdes Penisula and then dance all night at Annabelles!
Saw Santana and Elton John at the Greek!
The first time I had Japanese food was at Japanese Deer-Park.
Camped in Yosemite, visited Hearst Castle, saw F. Scott Fitzgerald letters to Zelda at the Huntington Library and visited almost every mission up and down the coast.
If you wanted a quick get a way, Rosarita Beach was right over the border and it was safe!
I could go on all night with how fun, sparkling and beautiful it all was.
It saddens me to see what has happened to it...and the saddest thing of all, it didn't have to happen. Apparently, however, people do not learn their lesson and continue to allow criminal politicians to run the state.
It was their policies who ruined it!
So invested are these criminals that seem to have a stronghold on the state, as they have corrupted and wrung everything good from California. There are still wonderful people there, many a friend, family members I miss...but I feel deep sadness over what I've seen happen to this state that I love, but had to leave.😔

My once hometown 20 miles from Downtown L.A. turned into a mecca of homeless drug addicts who would sift through my trash cans right before trash day to collect the plastic and glass for the CRV amount (5-10 cents each). If one moves to Los Angeles it's better to not live near a CRV payment center (the shipment containers located in your grocery store parking lot). Hey Nick, how would you rate the Santa Clarita/Simi Valley's? They are both adjacent to the San Fernando Valley but both seem to be ten times better in every single way. Both have great attractions (Ronald Regan Presidential Library, Six Flags) and both have a cozy atmosphere with various outdoor amenities. Will these areas increase in value? Are they good investments? Long time subscriber, love your videos!

Hey! That's a good area but expensive! And there's fires up there.

This is an essential video for anyone considering moving to LA. Especially the social issues. You can be successful and surrounded by good meaning attractive people and be the loneliest person pissed off by all the greedy self serving humanity in your purview. Moved to Las Vegas and within a year met my wife and have never been happier.

If you want to LA, make sure you have a job ready, prepare for Earthquakes, watch out for gangs or don't go into areas that gang infested. And watch out to vagrant homelessness folks. Enjoy the Smog, too.

California is not worried about nothing we are a sanctuary state and a border state plus the landscape is the best in America rural areas in the north by Oregon beaches mountains great weather snow in big bear so basically whatever you have in your state we can do all that in California

*Life long Californian. If living here weren't so desirable, congestion wouldn't be so bad and housing prices wouldn't be 3- 10 times what they are in red states. All you "free market" types should understand that.*

They ignore that part. Another thing is they focus only on outward migration and not people moving to California. I’m in Arizona and we get a lot of people but people are leaving too.
