Utahn here! 👋 Born in Glendale, raised in West Valley. At ~25 I moved to Midvale. I’ve now lived in Missouri for almost 6 months. Utah is absolutely amazing. West Valley crime can suck. But it definitely isn’t terrible. I’ve been on almost all sides of Utah. When I was homeless, I was always so surprised by how many people were willing to make small acts of kindness. The laws determined by the church are definitely the most annoying thing. Rent is high, house prices are high, but the pay is pretty decent in most places, & the organization of the state makes it almost all okay. I wish more states would adapt the same “road organization” Utah has.

I'm one of those tech nerds that moved to Utah for more opportunity from the DC area haha. When I was still an active convert to the LDS church I actually disliked it pretty strongly. Since going inactive and finding my own crowds, it's definitely grown on me. The mountains are to die for, and for the most part, people are kind (but awful drivers). Just need to find your own little piece of paradise wherever that is. Pretty accurate video haha.
I dream of visiting the Utah's natural parks! Those rocks and mountains look amazing! That was my second favourite in the unboxing series after Alaska!
I went to Moab earlier this summer, it’s great. Arches National Park was my favorite, but I also went to this place called Dead Horse Point State Park which has a good view of the Colorado River and canyons as well as Potash Road which has dinosaur tracks and Native American petroglyphs. Pictures do not do this place justice.
@@andreabontempo643 I mean your too late, I mean you realize of the 3 million + people in Utah, all but like 500,000 of them live within 100 miles distance right? Along the Wasatch front, that's why it's like a 100 mile long city, and of those people like 2 million are between Provo and salt lake city, long story short that entire area is jam packed and still growing at a staggering pace, it's better where I live further North but the traffic on the morning and at night is just a little better then then the I-5 when I lived in Yorbalinda
Been looking forward to this for a loooong time. Was once in utah and the scenery is just gorgeous. Sadly it was only for a few days but I’ll be back at some point.
My family is very mormon. Same with most of my extended family. They live in rural Utah in a town called Enterprise. Anyway, I was raised mormon but left at 16. My entire family has always been supportive of my choice. I have never met someone in Utah who hated me because I wasn’t mormon, and I lived in a small town. I would say that people here are far more concerned about politics than they are religion. They don’t want left leaning people moving here from California. I will say, if you are a liberal or even lean left, stay out of small towns. They will harass and bully you.
Washington, specifically the Pacific Northwest… is a different kind of beautiful that most people aren’t aware of that I share with people from Utah that feel like they’ve seen it all after having beauty in their own state. Also, Alaska :) but cold
@@yvonnes8701 I think the mountains and parks are amazing in Utah but Washington State is Spectacular! Every time I visit Washington I fall in love all over again ❤️
I worked in Provo for 6 months and lived in Sandy. No one ever asked me if I was a Mormon, they did ask me where I was from a lot. I use to tell them New England where Joseph Smith was born, they seemed happy with that answer. Anyway super nice place, super nice people I enjoyed working there. I was told that the homeless like Salt Lake because the Mormons are really nice to them, give them food and what not. But I didn't see any homeless camps in Sandy or Provo. ( I also enjoyed the close proximity to Las Vegas).
People seem to over exaggerate us and compare us to Heaven’s Gate. Normally I just roll my eyes and say “Yeah whatever man”. We’re all nice people and we most certainly don’t tell people to kill themselves for the blood god.
I moved to utah in the 70's, I am non mormon and live in the Utah valley area. I would say that some of what she said is true but then I guess it matters what area you live in. I have had neighbors tell their kids they can't play with my kids because they don't go to their church. This has happened in different places I've lived here. In MY opinion church and state are not separate and most people I know are for the GOP no matter what.
Not mormon but I'm born and raised in the Salt Lake area! I don't intend to leave. I've put down roots here and Salt Lake is the only urban area in the western US that's still affordable. I'm not leaving anytime soon. Southern Utah is gorgeous and is the best nature exploration I've ever encountered as well, plus Vegas and some really hip towns in Colorado are nearby as well. As far as polygs go they do largely hang in Hilldale and across the state line in Colorado City, AZ. Eastern Utah is mostly meh honestly outside of Moab. I speak as someone who was born in Vernal and have visited as an adult... Mehhhhh. I'm well practiced but I'm really good at ignoring the church, therefore I lead a really happy life in Utah. Edit: and I did get my name removed but yes. Less than half of the member count is active and well less than half the population is active in the church. That's absolutely correct.
Oh and Provo hardly has a music scene. It's all downtown unfortunately. We need venues in better parts of town. Some bars are getting opened in nice neighborhoods and having bands in thankfully. I'm having to go to the Rio Grande tweaker ass area a lot less.

Traffic is terrible and home prices are sky high from what they used to be. All the recreation areas are way overcrowded. If you're okay with traffic and crowds you may like living here, but my wife and I when we retire are getting out to someplace with less congestion and cleaner air!
Hardly any place left with less congestion. I agree with you though. We live in the same area and all the leftist transplants have driven up the prices and traffic is crazy. Utah is quickly becoming an unlivable state for many.
When I was in Utah, I could never shake this feeling like I was being watched. Must have been all those gold tops of the churches scattered all around up high on the mountain sides
That was a great video. Loved the Jello song and the Kathy bonus interview. It’s getting so expensive to live in Utah. Salary is not meeting cost of living and other expenses there.
Thanks a lot dude! Now I am homesick from watching this. I am from Logan but stuck out here in Turdsville, CA. All of Utah is pretty good but Logan is the best. Go Aggies!
@@rayb.6537 I have been hearing that SLC is getting bad with homeless. I used to work right downtown back in 2012 and it wasn't bad at all then. A few would hang out near the entrance to City Center on Main Street, and of course Pioneer Park had them milling about all the time, but other than that it wasn't so bad. I can't tell when I talk with people from back in Salt Lake if there really is a homeless problem or if it just seems bad to them. Perhaps if they came out to the Bay Area they might have a different perspective. I liken it to when I used to commute into SLC and thought the traffic was HORRIBLE! Then I moved to Houston and found out that I had no idea what traffic was.
I never understood the jello stereotype. I lived in Utah for 7 years and I have never seen food in jello and the only time I have heard of it is when people claim it’s a big deal in Utah.
I moved to St George, Utah for school and although it’s gorgeous and people are nice, it is so hard to make friends as a non Mormon. Mormons are of course super sweet but our lifestyles are so different that it’s so hard to relate to each other and hangout.
A very overlooked and forgotten movie called Promised Land that came out in 1987 showed a realistic Utah life about small-town high schoolers. One of the main characters lived in a 1950’s home, dropped out of high school and ran away and had bleak, undemonstrative, and passive parents that were hardly surprised and impressed when he came back home to them a year later after running away, but just sat down with his new wild bride to a simple dinner on Christmas Eve with a tuna and potato casserole dish with applesauce.
Being a Mormon I thought about living in Utah ..... but nope..., I can't force myself to leave Florida's sunny beaches for the icy cold Utah mountains! But it's a beautiful state no doubt!

Yeah but singing about cheesecake and casserole isn't as fun
I moved here 2 years ago and this guy nailed it 100% !
Always
Canyonlands Utah is still the closest you can get to a vacation on Mars.
Fun'
I'm prepared to watch all 50 state videos if need be. Highly entertaining, already a sub
Well they're just about all there for you
@@NickJohnson Awesome sauce!
@@NickJohnson just curious where do you reside?? Lol I gotta look for my hometown SD 😂
Salt Lake City is a really unique place. The surrounding mountains are absolutely titanic.
Yay Nick! You made an unboxing Utah video! Thank you. My wife and I just bought a new construction in Logan. Just waiting for the house to finish being built. So excited move to Utah. Just chilling’ here in Colorado until then. Thanks Nick!
Okay no prob! Enjoy your house - they are hard to get right now.
I own a condo in Park City, I love the Mormons. Very nice people. I got more than a few peeks into inner sanctums. Yep, donated to their outreach. For that I get a lovely handwritten letter every few months. Vacation in summer or winter, fun. Worth a trip. Raise a family there. Why not? Better than New York.
It’s a dream of mine to own a home in park city; so beautiful
@@achandler8015 a UA-camr i watch lives in park city very cool town

* * * Moved to Cedar City from Newport News, Virginia ... big difference ... love it here ... great place to raise a family ... miss the diversity and green of VA but not that humidity.
Hi Carly ❤️❤️
What does inactive mean? Just say you left.
@@JesusChrist2000BC Oof grumpy over semantics? Sorry friend, "I left the church." Feel so much better now :)
Wish I found you and you had made your video before I took a chance on Utah ! Least fav state I’ve ever lived in… your videos are ON POINT!
I dream of visiting the Utah's natural parks! Those rocks and mountains look amazing! That was my second favourite in the unboxing series after Alaska!
So cool!
Looking forward to this. Your videos are great!
cool ernesto!
i am moving to South Jordan in a few months. I hope Utah doesn't get too packed. I love the beauty of Utah and the people are really nice too
Where from?
your moving to south jordan? and hope it doesnt get too packed?? LOL, well I hope your really into suprises, cause you have a huge one in your future.
Ezoangelofdeath what do you mean ?
Austin Meldrum from California. But I’m not a libtard
Kathy was so nice during the bonus interview! She’s a great advertisement for Utah with her friendliness 😌
She is SUPER nice :)
Please unbox more states, great presentation !!!
Been looking forward to this for a loooong time. Was once in utah and the scenery is just gorgeous. Sadly it was only for a few days but I’ll be back at some point.
really good episode. I've been waiting a while for it.
Hands down this state has some of the most beautiful landscapes in the country. Seriously, if you come visit this state you should!
Finally! Thanks Nick, Kathy, and Austin!
Yes!!!
It's not as bad in Salt Lake County, if you move to Provo, you'll definitely get asked.
People seem to over exaggerate us and compare us to Heaven’s Gate. Normally I just roll my eyes and say “Yeah whatever man”.
We’re all nice people and we most certainly don’t tell people to kill themselves for the blood god.
I was born and raised in Utah and I DO NOT put vegetables in my jello!!!
Thank god someone has some common sense
Same here that is nasty !! 🤢🤢🤢🤮
You're one of the good Utahns then.
@@citycapital163 most utahns don't but we do put fruit
@@dustiwnl1480 Still pretty awful.
Loving these unboxing videos.... thanks Nick!
More to come David!
30 minutes? This is gonna be a good video 🤩
this episode of unboxing is informative and hilarious. thanks!
ok!
What about Boise?
@@itsnick37 Boise is a nice town! It's reasonably sized, clean there's a really great up and coming arts scene up there too. It's a great place to be honestly. I'd have no problem living is a place like that.
@@itsnick37 what about Boise, you got the wrong state pal, ugh! this is Utah, no boise here, theres a boise in Idaho and it's shoot me in the face boring, but thats a different state
I love your videos! Looking for a new state but I'm gonna watch all the videos just for their funny accuracy. I love how you dress up at the beginning to matcb the culture
While I was driving through Utah, the mountains are so beautiful and have good scenery. I regret not getting off a exit. To take pics of it.🤦🏽♂️
Hoping for a Central California and/or Northern California video soon 🙏
if you need an interview with someone about northern California Nick I lived there for 3 months in the emerald triangle
He already did the regular California unboxing video and a southern California unboxing video though. Every other state just has one Unboxing video. California has two.
@@miked7212 He sure did. I just think it'd be cool to get a couple vids for the different regions of the state like Central and North since they're so unique. Besides, the "Unboxing California" video is almost 2 years old and it'd b cool to get an updated version.
@@torinhoward1041 oh I didn't realize the California unboxing video is two years old. I think ones for certain cities would be good too like NYC, LA, and Chicago. Maybe someday.
maybe i will get to those eventually haha :)
I have lived along the Wasatch Front (SLC-Ogden) for 51 years. It was a great place to live 20 years ago, but has become not so great.
Must have been all those gold tops of the churches scattered all around up high on the mountain sides
j-e-l-l-o you know j-e-l-l-o you know .... thanks Nick now I have another one of your jingles stuck in my head 🥴
Sorry Lisa :)
That jingle was the best!!
I loved the song, too!
@Nick Jaramillo Rice puddings even nastier than jello
That was a great video. Loved the Jello song and the Kathy bonus interview. It’s getting so expensive to live in Utah. Salary is not meeting cost of living and other expenses there.
I agree Jamie!
Thanks a lot dude! Now I am homesick from watching this. I am from Logan but stuck out here in Turdsville, CA. All of Utah is pretty good but Logan is the best. Go Aggies!
Turdsville
Go aggies!
I’m glad you like my state! You do great videos
Ok Matt thanks!
I never understood the jello stereotype. I lived in Utah for 7 years and I have never seen food in jello and the only time I have heard of it is when people claim it’s a big deal in Utah.
You gotta go underground to find it
Great Salt Lake is shallow which is good thing. Sourdough bread is also popular here in Utah
I moved to St George, Utah for school and although it’s gorgeous and people are nice, it is so hard to make friends as a non Mormon. Mormons are of course super sweet but our lifestyles are so different that it’s so hard to relate to each other and hangout.
We moved to TX from Utah about a year ago. Time to time i just look for any videos utah related cause i just miss Utah.
Me too, big time.
Lived in North Ogden and left in 2018. Want to move back but can’t afford a house since the crazy spike.

As soon as you popped up dressed as a Mormon I started laughing lol. Unexpected
I’m Mormon too, but I thought about moving out of Utah.

It seems a nice place to live: not too big, friendly people, good opportunities, beautiful landscapes. I think I could easily live there. Thanks!
I feel bad. Nick put all that effort into that Jello song, and then the lady at the end says Jello isn't so big anymore, and cheesecake is where it's at, lol

To add a little history as well for the northwestern area of UT, most notably Box Elder county, it was the final location to merge the Transcontinental Railroad of the late 1800s in the town of Promontory, which has a museum dedicated to it.
