    The Smiths watch with the design closest to the original is still the "Everest Expedition". It has central seconds instead of small seconds, and it looks like the Smiths watch used by the members of the TransAntarctic Expedition a few years later. This expedition was an amazing feat, requiring collaboration between United Kingdom and New Zealand over several years, and the scientific research work performed along the way makes this expedition, in my view, at least as important as climbing the Everest for the first time. And the photos of the vehicles stuck on giant crevasses are terrifying. As a woman, it is not easy to find smaller watches that do not look overly "blingy". I think it will be my first automatic watch. Subscribed. Keep up the good work! :)

    I recently managed to snag one of these 40mm Eversts from a seller on Watchuseek and it's very quickly become my daily wearer. Really like the high domed sapphire crystal, good lume and the simplicity yet easy readability of the face and hands. Mine came on an aftermarket Engineer 2 bracelet but I'm currently rocking it on a Perlon strap, which really works well with it. Good review btw.

    I have the 40mm as well. Fantastic watch. Missed a couple of the ordering rounds and finally snagged one about 6 months ago. As you commented, it is chunky, a very substantial time piece. Wish the bracelet was a little smaller at the clasp. I tend to take it off if I am going to be orking on the computer. I love it.

    I really enjoyed your review of the Smiths 40mm PRS-25 Everest and have subscribed. Interestingly, I was drawn to the Smiths watches because of the 36mm option. There are many watches on the market that are 40-45mm. I have since acquired a Smiths Everest, cream face 36mm and the latest Smiths PRS-47 with the Tropical dial and love them both, great watches. They now come with a much improved bracelet. However, I have found that the accuracy of the Miyota movements are not as good as the Sellita or ETA Movements that I have in my TAG and Christopher Ward watches. Also, I would be hesitant to swim with these watches.
    Kind Regards

    Great review. I just got the latest version of the 36mm, and absolutely love it. I have to agree with you that this is the closest to the one watch collection that I own. I do have a lot of watches including Seiko SARBs & SKXs, Borealis, Nodus, Casio, and others. Each watch has its own appeal, but this Smiths stands out from all the others. Build quality, specs, and wrist presence are outstanding. I won't spend 10K for a watch, so this may be my grail watch. Looking forward to more reviews. Thanks

      I’m with you there. I wouldn’t be able to afford a 10K watch either. But why would anybody need to when there are such great sub £500 watches out there?! The fact that Eddie is literally re-inventing these fantastic brands from his garage in Sheffield is amazing I think

    I have also 40mm version. No doubt, it is great watch. However I could not understand Timefactor business structure. Watches are always sold out. If one they decide to be supported by a business development professional, the can understand the potential of the market. • @thewatchdoctor
      @thewatchdoctor  4 роки тому +2

      I don’t agree. My take is that a fake is a knockoff. An homage pays tribute to styles and influences from other pieces. Think of it as an up to date remake. You might not like the remake and that’s your choice entirely. But it isn’t pretending to be something it isn’t, which a “knock off” does. Thanks for the comment. The ⏱👨‍⚕️

      For it to be a knock off,it would have to be trying to pass itself as a Rolex
      And it's not.

    • @bettersteps
      @bettersteps 3 роки тому

      @@deanwaller8283 I disagree. That looks exactly like a Rolex. The only difference between the design of that watch and an Explorer is the name. It is a knockoff. Putting a different name on it and calling it a homage is only a legal loophole. It's a knockoff. Is it impossible for Smiths to design something original? Apparently.

I am not mass produced. I did not begin my life as an idea and a sketch. There is no pre-production version of me. Not the best way to prove a point Rodriguez. Smiths watches are nothing more than a watch made 100% in china with chinese generic parts. This is what you are buying if you go ahead.
    Why a Rolex homage? because the chinese have been making rolex copies for decades - there is plenty of factories producing them and it is easy and cheaper to assemble a watch using cases and bracelets that are a plain copy of a rolex.
    What are you getting extra from Smiths that justify the extra payment in opposition to the Rolex copies/hommages available at Aliexpress/ebay/alibaba for less than 100usd? Very little, but in summary the next:
    - Packaging: Smiths delivers the watch in an extremely cheap packaging - u can appreciate this in the video
    - Quality of the case and bracelet: the same as the ones sold at Aliexpress for less than 100usd.
    - Watch glass: Smiths offers sapphire but the ones from Aliexpress too - no improvement here.
    - Movement: Smiths offers a Miyota 9015 movement (btw a good movement), the ones at Aliexpress tend to offer the next options Miyota 8215, Seiko NH36, seagull ST16 or a generic chinese 2813 (The last one being the worst option - but is also fitted into the very cheapest watches, at around 50usd).
    - Dial and hands: Smiths comes with a simple printed dial - this is the cheapest way to produce a dial - and very generic rolex hands. Some of the other chinese copies come with dials with applied markers - this is more expensive yet those watches are sold for far less than Smiths.
    - Customer service: Chinese sellers are not known for providing a good customer service, but here is the key, Aliexpress intercedes between you and the seller and if you have a complain or receive a damage/defective product... you are likely to receive a full or partial refund. In the case of Smiths watches.... you just need to check out this video and will understand the type of person behind Smiths and what he delivers as a "customer service". ua-cam.com/video/UfN4TLjsXPg/v-deo.html&lc=Ugw3F88zhYe8PNzz2Oh4AaABAg.9I09Cu91HeE9I3ejLKxCVy
    The last topic is brand heritage: Once a brand becomes abandoned by the owners - and this was the case of Smiths watches... Anybody can register and own the name by registering it again to himself --- this is the case of Smiths and many other brands (Ball watches, etc...). Timefactors has been importing batches of chinese watches and re-selling them to european customers since 1996... At some point the guy owning Timefactors realized he could re-register abandoned historical brands and he has done it several times... check Timefactors offerings, he not only offers Smiths but also other less known historical brands he has registered again---- the difference between the different brands he sells? only the brand logo he is requesting the chinese manufacturer to print on the dial. ----------- MAKE up your mind if you consider this kind of "heritage" deserves any additional value or payment.
