  • In this video, I’m diving into the reality of being a new UA-camr. Is it hard? Is it easy? Can you do it? I'll share all the details based on my own journey. Just eight weeks ago, I decided to go all in on UA-cam after losing my job. Despite having posted randomly over the past 10 years, I’ve now surpassed 3000 subscribers! I’ll talk about the fun, the challenges, and what it takes to grow a channel.
    As a 45-year-old mother of three, juggling UA-cam with family life is a unique experience. I spend 20-30 hours a week creating, editing, and engaging with my audience, plus extra time learning new skills and strategies. I believe in the power of both hard and soft skills, and I’ll explain why having a balance of these is crucial for UA-cam success.
    Whether you’re wondering if UA-cam is right for you or looking for practical strategies to grow your channel, this video is for you. I'll share my daily routine, how I manage my time, and the persistence needed to thrive. So, stick around and let’s see if UA-cam could be your next big adventure! Don't forget to like, comment, and subscribe for more tips and insights on growing your UA-cam channel.

    So inspiring! I'm a new UA-camr and I'm loving it! I share some of my cut and collage books which I publish on Amazon, and UA-cam means people can see the beautiful images inside the books so they can decide whether to buy them, and I also make crafting videos using my own books - yes, I cut them up with a pair of scissors and make postcards and more! The hard/soft skills list/commentary was great. Good practical observations. The key thing is that UA-cam is a journey into the unknown, and it is often difficult to find knowledgeable folks to share information/advice/encouragement. Most people only have a partial set of the skills needed, and they are not used to working w/o others nearby. It takes a lot of time to learn, and much of the journey is as an isolated individual. Many people have psychological issues too. The results are based on your hard/soft skills, niche, presentation style, editing style, etc. Some people blame UA-cam or the algorithm for disappointing results. These things may be interpreted as an attack on their personality, or conflicts with the YT hype of instant success that they believed in too much…. Creators are playing in UA-cam’s sandbox and must accommodate YT rules and strategize by YT rules, and to create the best means to connect with your audience. Many choices you make must be creative and by instinct. And then you need the business sense too… Again, thx for the informative video.

      @AlexaSaarenoja  2 місяці тому +1

      Yes, I agree with everything you said. Well said. There is so much that goes into it and that is also why I think the older generation could really flourish on it, because hopefully by the time you reach middle age you have done some self reflection and now yourself + your strengths and weaknesses, and have some solid skills in place to shine. Thank you for sharing words of wisdom! xoxo

    • @AlexaSaarenoja
      @AlexaSaarenoja  2 місяці тому +1

      Yes it is...I was reading somewhere that you can basically achieve 1 video a week on youtube for around 5 hours as a newbie. I think that is pretty accurate, but of course depends on people's skill level with certain things. So if you shoot for 1 video a week, which is quite good for growing a channel, you could probably do it in 5 hours a week. xoxo

    It took 17 years for my music UA-cam channel to acquire 500 subscribers. In my experience, having utilized most of the popular social media platforms over the years, I believe the biggest factor for success is luck. There are millions upon millions of channels, and no matter how good some may be, there just isn't room for all of them to become successful. It's a difficult reality to accept when you're putting in so much effort. You can do all the right things, educate yourself thoroughly, stay dedicated, and still get nowhere. I think it's important to go into this with no expectations. Just do it for your own enjoyment, because ultimately there is no formula for guaranteed success.

    • @senorasarahCDMX
      @senorasarahCDMX 2 місяці тому

      Wow this is so depressing. Luck isn't even a real thing. There are so many factors that determine whether or not you're successful in UA-cam, and real steps that make a real difference. I can agree that you can bust your butt and not see results like you want, but someone who takes the RIGHT steps consistently will see successm

    • @AlexaSaarenoja
      @AlexaSaarenoja  2 місяці тому +1

      It's nice to hear your perspective and I think a lot of people might agree with you. You are super dedicated. wow! However, for me, I don't tend to rely on luck in life or think luck has anything to do with it. I prefer to work, learn, grow and get results. I see the millions of channels as opportunity rather than a hindrance. More people coming all the time. It's fantastic! In fact I remember once when I was younger in my 20s and I was chatting with an incredibly successful father of one of my friends. In the conversation, one of my friends said to him "well must me nice to have your life, you're so lucky" and the father got silent, looked at us and said if you remember anything in life remember this "luck has nothing to do with it...if you believe that you will always be exactly where you are" I think there is a lot of truth in that advice. I hope I am not offending you, just want to share. Let's discuss more if you desire. Wishing you the best with everything! xoxo

    Wow Alexa, You are doing great things with the audio! Not sure if you used digital filters to remove the echo or if you used sound treatment, but it is night and day difference. I also noticed that you put your chair a little lower when you were wearing the blue shirt to get the camera more on eye level. You are doing great!. I am more a technical guy and I am struggling with presenting in front of the camera. That does not mean that I am not able to learn that. Just doing it more and more is giving me more confidence. I tried with and without teleprompter and so far I am more comfortable using a teleprompter. In the future I might use the teleprompter only to record the hook word by word and use bulletpoints for the rest of the video but I don't have that skill yet. Today I received my acoustic panels but it is extremely hot so I will hang them those on the wall when it is a little cooler. Thanks for your video. I am really curious how you will do in the future because I have the feeling I will be one of the first that saw the video's of a UA-camr with very many followers in the future. It is like discovering a rough diamond before it is polished. You have great softskills that people relate to and you are able to work very fast on those hard skills. I am looking forward to the next video.

Im doing two challenges on my channel, one is my health journey as a Carnivore and my Journey to Monetization series. I can relate to personal growth and learning new skills, getting out of your comfort zone. I can also relate to pouring yourself in to making videos and not getting views. I just posted my first "Trending" post about how UA-cam is changing my life and it has barely gotten any views. I'm struggling to understand why I'm not getting any interaction. If you have a job or able to get some side money you can outsource the technical side. That's what Ali Abdaal suggests most creators do early on - hire an editor on fiverr/upwork etc. I don't necessarily agree with it because I don't have the extra income to pay an editor, but if I *did* I'd definitely outsource half my vids to an editor.

    I’m almost 40 , I’m mother of 2 people (son 20 years old and daughter 12 years old). I have a useful for people and boring for my creative soul work -massage therapist. I do my work very well, clients love me and I have my schedule full . But I’m working there for money. I need money it’s a reality. 🤷‍♀️ Many years ago I choosed a creative profession - TV journalist and I have a bachelor diploma, I worked on TV channels and I were very happy … but because of different reasons I left TV and now I’m massage therapist 😒. I’m pretty good in it but this work makes me so tired, so exhausted 😩 No passion no interest now to grow in it (I’m 5 years in this ). So. This story might be sad but… 6 months ago I went to try something I wanted many years. DJing. I love music all my life. Music is everywhere with me. I started studying in DJ Academy . I downloaded all tracks I listened to many years ( more than 300 tracks). I started mixing my favourite tracks. And I started UA-cam channel. I love it! 😍 I can do mixing every night and I’m not tired! I feel energy that returns to me. I feel happiness. I feel creative energy. I have so many creative plans on future!!!
    I guess finally I’ve found my passion. And I have a dream today - to quit that job and start my succes career on UA-cam and DJing , I dream about traveling all over the world like a DJ and sharing my sets and feeling with thousands of people. I wish the Universe will hear my heart and will send me also money energy for my passion ❤
    I’m working hard on my channel by myself. Making new music set - it takes minimum 7 days everyday (track selection, energy building, transitions, mixing on DJ controller), minimum 5 hours for organise and capture a quality video live session in different places and then I do Videomaking by myself (minimum 5 days everyday work 2-3 hours). (thanks to my 8 years experience on TV 😊 I don’t need to pay money to make a clip for my UA-cam channel ). But what I like mostly - making a music set. That’s like I build some road in the parallel Universe to go for some interesting walk . Sometimes I feel diving in the ocean and swimming deeper and deeper. And than fly like a bird through the clouds…. I feel frisson and see goosebumps on my skin . And I like to share this with other people and I’m happy to read feedbacks about what people feel when listen to my music sets ❤❤❤. I’m so happy of it 😊 I think when I will have money from UA-cam I will pay somebody to do Videomaking 🙈
    Thank you very much for your experience. I’m watching your channel all time. I dream my channel will grow to 1000 subscribers 🙏🙏🙏 but I need my passionate subscribers 😊 who loves such music that I love.
    Can you give me advise please how to show my channel to people all over the world 🙏🙏🙏 (USA, Canada, Brazil, all Europe, Australia…). I’m sure my subscribers mostly are from Europe and other continent can’t see me 😢
    I have 9 videos already on my UA-cam channel and many shorts . Also I have new live video session ready and I plan to publish it this Friday evening. Is it correct? What time or day is the best to publish new big video?

    I feel better to know that I am not the only one to make and edit a video then start over. Actually I wanted to share something that happened when I did this recently. I’d posted a video and it only had only one view after about 24 hours. I knew I had rushed it so I redid it and reposted. The old video, I unpublished it rather than deleted it. Another 24 hours later that one view on the video disappeared. Also when I first posted the video I watched it and liked it from my second channel associated with the same email. The view vanished about about 20 minutes and the like never took. At the time I thought it was just a glitch. I looked into it and it appears that UA-cam audits views and subscribers and they can disappear.

      I say mix it up! 😊 That’s what I’ve been learning in various UA-cam courses, so I think it just gives you a broader audience to capture with the two different formats. In my stats most people watch both formats…so I say mix it up. I’m sure there is an argument for separating them too, but really it just boils down to what works for your channel. Test it and see! Haha love the edit at the bottom, made me smile. :) Everyone's journey is different and I totally get that. It's not a cakewalk... that's for sure. It's almost 10pm where I am and I'm responding to comments after recording and editing all day while entertaining kids, and I still need to edit tomorrow's post...but I still love it nonetheless, mainly because I love you guys! The community is awesome and keeps me going. xoxo

      If you trust their opinion go for it, but in the end is your channel, your voice and this i think going with your gut is best. The UA-cam community will also let you know pretty quickly! 😊❤️

    Hi Alexa, just started 2 weeks ago ...I seem to be getting some subs but I need the view hours to go up...would it be better to make longer vids ie. 10mins or stick with my 5-6 min vids and and pump out more vids?

    • @AlexaSaarenoja
      @AlexaSaarenoja  2 місяці тому

      Depends on your time availability and how long editing takes you. I think over 10 minutes and even closer to 15 minutes is like a sweet spot for some reason, but I have no data to back that up. I think it depends most on what you can consistently do and stick with. If it’s easier to pump out more shorter content (with value) then say one longer one, go with that. You could also mix and match. Test and see what your audience prefers. Is your content more digestible in small chunks or going deeper in a longer video?

    In your research when do you change channel name from something different then your name?

    • @AlexaSaarenoja
      @AlexaSaarenoja  2 місяці тому +1

      It depends on what you want to do with your channel. If you want yourself to be the brand, as I do for my channel, then I will leave it my name forever, but if you want your channel to be more about a specific topic, then you can create a topic name, such as Agility Vision. Another reason why I have it as my name, is so that I can grow in any direction and am not stuck in a certain genre or topic. However, you can also just name your channel something more broad too to have more leverage for movement within. Hope this helps! xoxo

      Depends on the video…walking ones - no script. Data based definitely script or detailed outline. But I’ll do a video about it, since you are not the first to ask this question. Thank you!

    Hey Alexa, not bad for a Gen Xer, as you like to refer to yourself. No offense but there's something distinctly odd about you, like you look young and old at the same time. I could put your age anywhere between 25 and 55.
