I started my channel at 53 two days ago. I tried for months but every time I filmed, I deleted it right away , exactly for the reasons you listed. However, I reached a point to where I said I don’t have to be perfect, I am who I am. Thank you for the great video and inspiration, and I wish you much success with your channel!
I started mine in the beginning of UA-cam but was so terrified I didn’t start posting until 7 years ago and now I make 6 figures a year! It’s an awesome experience!
I' m in my 50s, I have been looking for a genuine advice on starting a You Tube channel. I perceive a genuineness in you and I' m now convinced that I can start mine. Thanks
I'm 60 and have 2 channels and am planning out 2 more. My key is to make them easy, little to no editing, pleasurable for me, and of course what people want to watch. I used to think there were all these unwritten rules to having a successful channel. Forget what you think you should do and invent what YOU do and what your viewers want. This isn't TV, people are attracted to uniqueness here, and your audience will be attracted to you and how you do things. Go get your place in the UA-cam world!
I began my UA-cam journey at 50, proving that it's never too late to start. UA-cam isn't just for younger generations-it offers opportunities for anyone passionate and determined, regardless of age. Now, at 53, I'm proud to be earning from AdSense, and it's been a rewarding experience sharing content and connecting with a wider audience. As someone from the Philippines, I challenge everyone my age to do the same. When I'm gone, my family and future descendants will still be able to see me on UA-cam, keeping my legacy alive for generations to come.
I’ve just turned 73, an artist, and I found this very inspiring. I have always hesitated because of that self-image/awareness terror … but your words have given me a much needed kick up the a*? !! Thank you !!
Just retired as an elementary art teacher. I am beginning my career as a full time artist ( I’m 64)and you have helped me to realize that there are many people out there who may be interested in the journey!
That’s so great! I’ve attempted being an artist my whole life but always revert to my graphic design job for income which is stressful. Restarting art class at 53. Being creative is a true blessing isn’t it? Even if we are “poor”.
Huge, huge point saying there are very few youtubers in their 50/60 when people in their 50/60 prefer watching Utube videos over other social media. So 40/60 seems to be a niche in itself. Good video, thank you.
💥💥💯Yeah!! it is so obvious that people over 50 years of age watch UA-cam but I totally missed that idea and I'm 53 years old and I'm ALWAYS on UA-cam. I made a huge chunk of my income on YT and never realized this niche lol. 🤣
100%. I took notes on that point, and it really inspired me to start back on my channel. I didn't even realize I preferred watching people closer to my age until she pointed it out.
I’m 62 and started my channel the end of May. I’m having a lot of fun. I’m not monetized yet, but I’m close. I just wanted to share my love of dogs and grooming with the world.
Congratulations! I started last year at 62, but, got away from it. I plan to start back soon. Everybody loves dogs. I have a grandpuppy I am over the moon for.
I don’t know why this video found me (thanks, algorithm), but the timing is perfect. I’m 59 and have been thinking about creating a channel, just for the gratification of sharing whatever meager nuggets of wisdom I’ve collected throughout the years. Thank you.
45 here. Started back in February this year. Hit 150k subs earlier this month. So, 6 months. I used shorts to get me here. I teach outdoor survival and camping tips/tricks. My biggest suggestion is to be consistent and watch the metrics on every video to see where improvements can be made next time. Just got my checkmark and silver play button too!
@justinuriahphoto yeah I'm almost 40 and trying to do things still I did in my 20s and 30s. UA-cam can be stressful and fun all at the same time . Keep moving forward
I just turned 50 this year. Also, after many attempts at being a UA-camr, I’ve made the decision to go all in this time. Videos like this provide great motivation. Thank you for posting.
This is a great vid Daphna. I was 70 just over a week ago and have had it in the back of my mind to start a UA-cam channel, but have no niche in mind. This vid of yours might just spur me on to make and upload vids, and, as you say, find and fine tune my niche as I go. Thank you 👍
Without a niche in mind, the best thing to do is just start making videos on anything that you're interested in. Just upload them and see how they go. Over time your analytics will show you what people are interested in watching and you can focus on more of that. It will lead to something.
@australiantruckspotting8883 Yeah, that's what I'm doing now. I will be posting a few different topics. But I will stick to them and try to go in a loop pattern.
I recommend trying to start in something you are a bit passionate about because the learning curve is steep so it needs to be fun and that you're exicted about it...that comes through to your audience
I love this! At 58, I don’t care if my hair looks bad or my makeup is not perfect. I just keep putting my videos out everyday. If anyone watching cares that when I speak extemporaneously and misspeak on occasion then they are not my “tribe”. And that is completely okay with me!
I'm 40 and starting my channel now. I had a lot of insecurities at first but I'm at a point where I realize there's far more to gain than lose. Take the leap of faith and just do it!
@@KetchikanKelly Actually, I rendered an old Publisher I had. I took it to an artist who then created the graphic. Paradise Creative Group in Fort Myers.
yes, please share more step by step to create a youtube channel and future business. thank you for helping others. might consider a channel without my face showing
OK you’ve convinced me! I’m a 59 year old woman, moving to Hawaii to start my life over. I’m guessing there will be others interested in following my journey?🤞
So happy that this video showed up on my feed today. Thank you so much for the encouragement. At 67, I'm just about ready to post my first video. You are an inspiration.
I just turned 70 last month. 🤩💃🤪 😮I have been wanting to start my own UA-cam channel for several years. Your video here is helping me to have that leap of faith to go on and get started with it. I thought I had to have my niche figured out but you’ve helped me to understand that I won’t know until I get into this. Thank you so very much for this information and your authenticity.
Thank you so much for this video, Daphna. I am 56, and English is not my first language either. Plus, I am not technical either, not even close. I am considering starting a UA-cam channel, and the imposter syndrome and my deep-rooted insecurities are kicking in. I know that I can do it, I am very capable. After watching this video, I am going to take action.
Thank you for your transparency and inspiration- it's encouraging to hear that the market for UA-camrs in their 50s and older is wide open...I am excited to see what's possible!
I started a UA-cam channel three months ago reviewing art books. I intended it to be a faceless channel as I didn't want to be seen... I don't like my voice, my accent, my hands, my face. In my head I am still 30 years young, but the mirror tells lies...in the end I thought what the hell... I have received 100% positive comments on my channel, which has overwhelmed me, even when I think the latest video is terrible. People appreciate the authenticity of a real personal owning their mistakes. I just use my mobile phone and some cheap software less than £50.00. For anyone considering starting a UA-cam channel and holding back just go for it. What have you got to lose? Just a few hours of your time... best wishes...
I want 100% sure from your comment, about whether you decided to 'face up' rather than using a fixed image. Did you? I ask, of course, because this is part of my quandary.
PERFECT DIVINE TIMING! I have been toying with this idea of starting my own channel for two years now and I am 45. I now I am certainly going to jump into it! Thank You so very much for doing this!
I hesitated to click on this video, but I'm glad I did. You are so correct. 40-50 year old you tubers have a lot to offer. Thanks for the encouragement to just get out and make videos about things I love! Your tribe will find you if you are providing thoughtful content.
I love this video so much!! This is what I help clients with - to clear visibility blocks & confidently share their wisdom at any age. What I have found is that those who are the most afraid to share often have the most value to give. You are an inspiration, Daphna, embodying everything you speak of so beautifully!!
I turned 50 this year and I too started my first UA-cam channel this year … currently have created 5 videos uploaded…. It’s nerve racking about feeling a failure, having no editing experience, but have posted and am learning as I go…. Thank you 🙏
I found the courage to finally start a youtube channel last week and so happy to get 18 subscribers I know it's not much but feels good to start. Thanks for the video ❤
Daphna, this is GOLD! 56, Romanian-American, living in Idaho, been pondering with the idea for years. I even have a playlist called "UA-cam business" and your video is top of the list now 😊. Thank you so much for the inspiration! Love, Madalina.❤
This is the first video I've watched from you and I found it very inspirational. I'm 46 and on day 3 of my youtube journey. I am optimistic of where it will lead me, not only in opportunities, but in learning more about myself and helping others. You made a good point about age that I hadn't thought of before. Being a Gen X person, I can see there being a lot of others my age that I can relate with or that can relate with me. Thank you! Jeremy
I am so glad I found you today by accident! I am 60, early retired and a romance author (my 3rd career that I started 2 years ago). I always wanted to add a YT channel to my portfolio but struggled with exactly what you mentioned in this video. Thanks for the encouragement 😊🧡
I’m 68 and had over 300,000 on one of my videos and averaged 20,000 to 50,000 then UA-cam removed my partner status because I didn’t upload for a few months. UA-cam don’t play fair; so watch out.
Oh Daphna! I was going to give up this week with my channel. Thank you for making this video. I loved that you said that people our age love to watch videos made by older people 👌 I am making videos for people who are transitioning to grey hair and have had zero views, and yet I desperately wanted to hear from others who had done it before when I did it. I have only posted 3 videos. So I will not be discouraged 🙏 I literally have only my iPhone and a gimbal, so your iPhone comment was also very helpful. Lastly, I love your accent and authenticity ❤
Totally agree with everything you said. Money is irrelevant, all you need is a lavaliere mic to start (and a phone) $25. Think long term, ideas will come to you as how to make money: ads, affiliate marketing, courses, membership etc. Don't overthink it just get started. I'm about to launch two channels, one on Photography, particularly analogue camera and film, which I have been doing for 50 years and one on building a business online for the over 40s. I'm 68 and there are few people on UA-cam with our experience and wisdom and the world is craving for it. Great video!
Thank you for sharing! I'm 38 and started 9 years ago. Although I've been inconsistent and gained 500 subscribers, I'm now seeing more growth by consistently showing up!
Just getting going at 51 y/o. My channel is about backpacking in remote wilderness areas. I absolutely ❤ love ❤ creating and editing the content. I will keep going because of this. If I didn't love it so much, I don't think it would be worth it. You gotta love what you do. ❤
Hi Daphna.. How revitilizing it is to see a video that is warm genuine and real.. I too am a 50+ YTuber, albeit of a faceless channel. So it certainly resonated when you spoke about the ' personal ' and ' mental ' side of being a YTuber..Imposter syndrome and the like. But hey ho..i got out there and started and just love the process and the being a Faceless YTuber. Keep sharing..and ill keep watching. Thanks
Hello from BC Canada! I started YT a few years ago and was doing pretty good... - and then 4 years ago I got so unmotivated - because of world events and how relationships were strained - and it really made me shrink from the world. I didn't want to talk about it, and I guess I had to process things on my own. The strife was a fantastic vehicle to a stronger me; I got my head back on straight and at almost 61, I am going to re-start (and I have been watching videos and channels like yours to get back to it.) I have no intention of making money, just connections and bringing positive vibes with entertainment to others as we age. Looks like you're doing great; thanks for the inspiration!
💥I'm from B.C. as well. Yes the last 4 years were very tough on many people. Keep going with the videos. It's soo much fun making videos and so much to learn. It's challenging but in a good way, keeps me on my toes. I'm 53 and retired and started a channel just to keep busy, have fun and make some money.😀💰
Thank you, a great video! Creating a UA-cam channel has been on the back of my mind for a couple of years now. It's not the tech part that's stopping me as I know I can figure that part out, but my self confidence.
A big HUG back at you. This video helped me a lot. I have been wanting to start my channel for a long time but I wasnt sure where to begin. Thank you for the inspiration. ❤❤❤
I love your accent! 🤩 I'm entertaining the idea of starting a channel and I just turned 57. I am a master of nothing, so we'll see what comes to fruition. Thank you for posting this video...I'm now a subscriber. 💖
Yes, you are so right. I do look for youtubers of my age. I am 52 and just started to be serious about content creating 2 months ago. It's been very slow and I am still all over the place about my niche. After watching this video, I feel more motivated. Thanks for sharing!
Hey, it's your birthday! Happy Birthday! I'm just here reading all the comments at 1:45 a.m., lol. I look forward to seeing your channel! I started mine last year at 62, but, became discouraged, now looking forward to starting back. Best of luck!
Wow Daphna. What a great video especially on the timing for me but also SO positively encouraging. I have got everything in place with understanding the basics of new video editing software, ideas for this 62 year old English/french estate agent and keen hiker reaching retirement in France so lots of video possibilities and I have a simple mike and tripod. So I am literally ready to put my first video together but I just haven't been able to press that button. You have really boosted me for the big next step. Thank you. 🙏
Thank you Daphne. Great video. Why dont you start making video s about the process. How to do it. From buying the phone, micro etc with all the hick ups. Advices on filming... how to prepare your text etc. Till the video is finished. Every step in a different video. You are a real inspiration. The scenery in them is exceptional... that is the great thing about moving. You see more than the locals. Tysm
I’m a 54 year old knitting designer and teacher, I’ve had my channel for several years… I’ve backed away for some reason. I really felt inspired by your imposter syndrome segment. Thank you for the push to get back at it!
Hmmm…not sure I can agree with this advice as UA-cam being a way to make extra money. I have had several UA-cam channels over the past 5 years. My current one is an art channel that monetized after 3 months…a milestone I thought I’d never reach. Since then, I have earned $1.44 from UA-cam. Yes, make videos if you love making videos. I spend 50-60 hours a week making each video because I love the process, but as a money making venture it’s basically like playing the lottery with similar odds of success. Definitely try it, but don’t think it’s easy, inevitable money. Love your videos, Daphna! ❤
I just checked out one of your videos. It's so well done & high quality. I can see why you spend 50-60 hours on it! You have a very natural and authentic way of communicating. If you actually start selling your art pieces through UA-cam, I think you would do very well :)
Wow. Total Wow. Who told you that I needed this video TODAY? Thanks to you I am going to do this. Within the next 24 hours I will have uploaded my first video. I have been waiting for years now. Thank you for your video. You covered EVERY SINGLE topic and doubt that I fostered for so long. THANK YOU
I’m 27 years old and started my YT channel this year travelling Europe in my defender 🎉 this video proved useful and interesting to myself as well 🙌🏻 thank you 🙏🏻
Love your video!! I'm 60 and was thinking too old to do this and didn't think anyone would be interested in what I had to say! But you have changed my mind! ❤❤
Thanks Daphne. Great video. I have been watching your videos for sometime now and enjoy your content. I have thought about starting a UA-cam channel but that is as far as it has gone.
You have become my favorite channel on UA-cam. Your peaceful and positive vibe and you’re encouraging spirit are magnetic. In a way, you allow us to see what is possible. By watching you, we can see a little bit of ourselves. And what you have done is very inspiring. I thank you for your courage and your vulnerability to put yourself out there. I’m 60 and I am retired before my husband. He is very busy.this may be an avenue I can go down to explore some new things in life. Thank you again.
Thank you, Daphne. About 5 weeks ago at 63, I started my own UA-cam channel. I love doing it immensely. I reinvented myself at 61. Went back to school and became a Paramedical Tattooist helping mastectomy survivors and doing scar revisions. Since I love what I do I went back and became a Cosmetic Permanent Makeup artist too. I LOVE what I do and want to share with everyone that you can find a new career at 60 and above. Sixty is the new 38. FYI I really look like my picture. I spill my secrets on my channel. :)
Yes please do share about sponsorship & affiliations such a helpful, inspirational video thank you! Im 49 & loving so many of us over 40s becoming UA-camrs ❤
I'm a lawyer with heaps of experience dealing with peoples' lives, watching family fall-outs, real-life tragic deaths - and my business is quite unique as it deals with the practical aspects of these situations. I know it sounds morbid and it can be heavy going. So many people have said I should write a book about all that we deal with - and usually when I give a case-study people are fascinated. I was thinking of starting a YT channel about this - but hesitate. What do you think? Thank you for this video - you talk a lot of sense.
Sounds like you have a niche type of idea and the experience within it to carry out your thoughts…..certainly sounds different and interesting…..go for it AJ
@squidslayers3931 thank you for the encouragement. It is definitely different and I've learnt so much. I just feel so nervous and no idea where to start with YT. I'm 57 and combined with the little bits of life experience I've picked up, possibly it could be quite interesting. Just so nervous. Thank you again for the encouragement 🙏
You have what you need! You actually said " I have heaps of experience" well thst puts you in a fantastic position to talk to us that have no experience in your field. Just take the jump, I'm right behind you 😊
Thank you very much for giving us advice and 61 years old and love working with cameras, but I was scared to ever do a UA-cam video. I think I’ll try now.
This video is so timely for me. I intended since the first of the year to create a channel about opening a new biz at 60. I got my studio open in 4 quick months so I barely was able to record on my phone. The studio reopened 8/3, after being closed due to my emergency back fusion 2 weeks after my initial opening. Yeah. I definitely have some stories to tell. It does seem daunting. But I have a unique perspective, teaching method, even my equipment was only trademarked in 2017. I'll be starting very soon! Happy Life Movement channel, here I come!
That was a lovely video. Thank you for the words and insights. What I pursue more here are the channels that tell stories. It's almost like movies. Of course that I search for how-to videos, but the ones about lifestyle and vlogs with the storytelling in mind, are the most precious. Have a great week!
Find your USP: Unique Selling Position. How are you being different and original in a field of others in the same niche? I'm a book publisher, and my business stands out because I took a chance and tried different things with cover art, interior formatting, etc. Standing out and consistency are the keys to the kingdom 😉
How kind of you to come on and provide a logical explanation of UA-cam creators and how to get started, what to not stress about and just make it on your own. Thank you!
I am now 55 years old, and had my youtube channel for a long time, and have been working on it for a year now, and must say I have not regretted it for a moment.🥰
I'm 58 and have been thinking about this for far too long. You are inspiring me to just get on with it and do it. Thank you. Love your clear, down to earth and ordinary style. Very inspiring.
Thank you for this. I am 45 but look 10 years younger. I always think that older people don’t watch UA-cam and so there’s no audience. This is so helpful and inspiring. Lots of love to you and all the best for continued success ❤
I am going for it...I started Passionately Curious Lifestyle last year...but I spent 80% of my time on other social media platforms and 20% on UA-cam. I have just recently decided to switch that and go to 80% on UA-cam and 20% on other platforms! 😊 I am excited to see where it will go...Passionately Curious Lifestyle is all about reversing negative stigmas, challenging the cliches, and breaking the mould with curiosity 💗✨️🤝
I started my youtube cvannel last year,on s. Valentine's day,on the day when almost all the people waste their time with a loser i decided to do something cool and creative for myself
This video comes at a good time. I originally had my first UA-cam channel when I was younger and it was about babies and momlife. Now I have one kid left at home and have been making videos mostly about hiking and camping but they dont do as well. I was recently thinking that maybe now at 43, people dont want to watch me because Im not a 20 something girl living in my van LOL. Overall, I keep reminding myself that I do really make the videos for myself and my own memories before anything else.
Your videos are very inspiring-and persuasive! I barely have time for what I do now, writing thrillers, but as I watch you, a little voice in my head says, “Well…” 😄
I just started my UA-cam journey a month ago and while I was doing research for my videos, I accidentally stumbled upon your video and kept watching a few more. I can see you became more authentic over this journey. Your journey on this channel has been inspiring to me. Thank you very much for this valuable content.
Thank you so much for sharing your experiences, it is very encouraging. What stop me from doing UA-camr were the age and appearance. I thought the age of the viewer in 50-70 would be much less to other generations and I thought my voice and look probably not good enough. You have demonstrated it so well!
UA-cam put your video in front of me! How awesome is that!! Your video single handily convinced me that I need to start a UA-cam channel now! I am in my 50's and I have so many experiences and so much knowledge in many different areas. I took the plunge and I have been posting to my new UA-cam channel just over 2 weeks ago. I am enjoying the process and the journey thus far! Thank-you for making this video!
I'm "biologically" 47 (not a day over 22 in my mind lol) and I've had my channel for a while. It's still small, but I enjoy it because it allowed me to make mistakes, learn to deal with comments, and build a community. Lots of my viewers and other UA-camrs have become real friends. I travel with my cat across Canada for now and eventually will go overseas. I think my vlogs are pretty funny, give us a watch if you want to see traveling, some life and house problems, DIY, and the cutest Norwegian Forest Cat ❤

I just turned 50 this year. Also, after many attempts at being a UA-camr, I’ve made the decision to go all in this time. Videos like this provide great motivation. Thank you for posting.
It's a struggle and challenge for sure.
I'm so happy you got inspired ❤️❤️❤️
That’s awesome! Best of luck going all in!
❤❤❤❤❤
I have 2 channels but have not been consistent! I am definitely now inspired to return to those channels and post my content ❤I love the freedom!
The community one can build up with a channel on UA-cam is amazing. You get to know so many nice and interesting people.
This is a great vid Daphna.
I was 70 just over a week ago and have had it in the back of my mind to start a UA-cam channel, but have no niche in mind.
This vid of yours might just spur me on to make and upload vids, and, as you say, find and fine tune my niche as I go.
Thank you 👍
It's a struggle so far. I'm still young at almost 40.
Go for it!
I recommend trying to start in something you are a bit passionate about because the learning curve is steep so it needs to be fun and that you're exicted about it...that comes through to your audience
I started my channel at 37 two months ago and recently reached 43 subscribers. I am keep going more.
Fantastic!! Keep going 🎉
I love this! At 58, I don’t care if my hair looks bad or my makeup is not perfect. I just keep putting my videos out everyday. If anyone watching cares that when I speak extemporaneously and misspeak on occasion then they are not my “tribe”. And that is completely okay with me!

Love that you understand about niches - just start, and your audience will tell you what they want to hear if you just pay attention.

Today i turn 63 and listening to your content is like a gift to me. You are so inspirational, a beautiful voice of wisdom. Thank you for sharing.
I agree. Very motivating content!
Hi, 58 years old, starting on UA-cam soon! Very motivational video. Thank you 😊
Thank you for your transparency and inspiration- it's encouraging to hear that the market for UA-camrs in their 50s and older is wide open...I am excited to see what's possible!
I agree ❤ Seriously a good push dear .. Movitated us to not stop . Keep going 😊
I want 100% sure from your comment, about whether you decided to 'face up' rather than using a fixed image. Did you? I ask, of course, because this is part of my quandary.
@@rebeccajennings203 I face up. I decided to do this because subscribers find it more engaging and are more likely to follow your channel.

I hesitated to click on this video, but I'm glad I did. You are so correct. 40-50 year old you tubers have a lot to offer. Thanks for the encouragement to just get out and make videos about things I love! Your tribe will find you if you are providing thoughtful content.

I’m 68 and had over 300,000 on one of my videos and averaged 20,000 to 50,000 then UA-cam removed my partner status because I didn’t upload for a few months. UA-cam don’t play fair; so watch out.

Thank you for this. I turn 44 this Sunday and started my UA-cam channel a few months ago. It’s never too late

Thank you. 🙏
Oh, videos of properties in France would be wonderful to watch. The countryside, towns, etc. Very cool!
Tysm

oh I'm so happy you got inspired ❤️❤️❤️
Do you have Instagram too?
I hope things take off for you soon 🙏🤞

I'm a lawyer with heaps of experience dealing with peoples' lives, watching family fall-outs, real-life tragic deaths - and my business is quite unique as it deals with the practical aspects of these situations. I know it sounds morbid and it can be heavy going. So many people have said I should write a book about all that we deal with - and usually when I give a case-study people are fascinated. I was thinking of starting a YT channel about this - but hesitate. What do you think? Thank you for this video - you talk a lot of sense.

so timely for me.

I have started my channel 1 year ago; but the challenge is real, I am monetized but very low views so it’s discouraging…
Find your USP: Unique Selling Position. How are you being different and original in a field of others in the same niche? I'm a book publisher, and my business stands out because I took a chance and tried different things with cover art, interior formatting, etc.
Standing out and consistency are the keys to the kingdom 😉
