CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Adam (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) meets his therapist Katherine (Anna Kendrick), who is much younger than he expected.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
Written by Will Reiser who based the film on his own experiences fighting cancer, Jonathan Levine's poignant comedy 50/50 stars Joseph Gordonn-Levitt as Adam, a 27-year old public radio employee who discovers he has cancer. As his best friend Kyle (Seth Rogen) tries to help out, his girlfriend Rachael (Bryce Dallas Howard) proves to be a less than ideal life partner for this particular crisis. All the while, Adam's overprotective mother Diane (Anjelica Huston) tries to overcome her son's continued attempts to keep her out of his life. As Adam begins to discover how hard it is to deal with his situation, and to maintain various relationships in his life, he begins seeing a young counselor (Anna Kendrick) who might prove to be just as helpful personally as she is professionally. Matt Frewer and Philip Baker Hall co-star as Adam's fellow chemotherapy patients.

I thought Anna Kendrick did a phenomenal job in this movie. She pulled off the adorable, new, inexperienced therapist so well.
Yea i just wish the role was written better. Her acting was amazing but I felt like her character got slighted by not getting in development.
She does a great job at conveying being vulnerable yet strong

Joseph's acting is on point in this movie. Holy crap.
He's really brilliant
As a young female therapist myself, I really liked this movie and Anna's character, although the portrayal (not her acting) definitely isn't without its flaws. Even I wasn't this unprofessional with my first few patients/clients. But I can relate to her feeling a little awkward and unsure at first, and I am glad they humanized a therapist, even if only to this extent.
btw, important note: if you're seeking therapy from an intern (to get probono/subsidized fee) and you're worried about it, protocol is that you should be asked beforehand if you're ok with seeing a (supposedly supervised) intern. If your sessions are going to be recorded or used for a dissertation/study, you should also be asked beforehand, too. So don't worry, informed consent is supposed to be a priority. :)

Can we all relinquish the fact that Anna Kendrick is so fucking talented? Just watch her in this, Up in the Air, Rocket Science, Pitch Perfect, any role she has she nails it, AND she can sing like nobody's business

This seems quirky and cute until you actually have an incompetent therapist like this. Not a good experience.
Its called inexperienced. Not bad. Nobody starts of as great
Speaking as a therapist, working on full licensure and having accrued over a 1,000 hours of direct client contact, to me in whatever state you have your doctorate in psychology, counseling, or psychiatry, she should not be a doctor and just recently seeing clients. Now she could be implying that he is one of the first clients at her new position, but even direct client hours while in internship or provisional licensed state look like competent therapy sessions. Now the acting is fine, but there is no way a doctor within the mental health field would be just seeing clients. So yeah, completely incompetent in more ways than one.
Other than that good acting and all that, but I love this movie but always hated the way they portrayed her as a doctor/therapist/psychologist or whatever her official title is.

I mean, it is a movie, not real life.
It’s just a movie and she literally said, “I’m not a doctor yet. I’m working on my doctorate.” Hence, the awkwardness and obvious lack of experience
The only unrealistic thing about this movie is when he dates her because it is not medically advisable.

Anna sounds like a professional that just graduated. Going by the book, word by word. Hahaha. Reminds me of how I was when I was new at work and just graduated . 😁

I'm 27 and I know Doogie Howser.
Most of my friends have never heard of the show.
They ONLY know about Neil Patrick Harris bc of Harold and Kumar.
And even fewer from gone girl or starship troopers.
A few years ago, I hit the age where people stopped calling me "honey" so much, and started using "sir".
Feels weird.
When I'm with my much younger family members or chaperoning a group of grade schoolers and something goes down, they come to me when needing an adult.
Makes me feel old, yeah.. But it's pretty cool.
Though sometimes I feel like I'M the one who needs an adult. Lol

Underrated movie.
This is exactly how trainees are, they apply book knowledge to people with emotions expecting them to understand where in fact they need to speak on their level to make some progress. This is how med students are also in my hospital they apply all the knowledge they learned in med school where it’s not applicable to the condition a patient is having, it’s pretty hilarious, this is why experience is just as and more important than knowledge alone.

yeah i know it was meant to show her age, but even among her peers.. i.e. future doctors, would no one even mention doogie howser? or scrubs? or grey's anatomy, etc lol
I had never heard of Doogie Howser until Harold & Kumar. I just turned 30.
It is very unethical to tell a patient they will be included in a dissertation and not ask for consent, discuss their participation, or have him sign any documentation. If I were to do this my license would get revoked and I would be brought to court for a malpractice charge.

Very true Maddy. A therapist having a relationship with their patients is a huge conflict of interests and it is unhealthy. Good thing that this is only a movie, otherwise it would of been inappropriate.
You can have relationship with former patient, but in most countries you have to wait 2 years after the therapy has ended. Just like teachers cant have relationship with their students, but once you are no longer their teacher you are free to do anything.

Fail! I had no idea, none whatsoever Anna Kendrick is in this. I feel like the biggest creep, making googly eyes everytime I see her. She's just so... cute and all her mannerisms are even cuter. Her voice too. And she's just so charasmatic. And she's so taken already. Not that she'd entertain the idea of ever - not yet anyway. Emma Roberts has the same effect on me. Rashida Jones. So it's not just her and I'm no psycho. Just slightly neurotic when I find a woman checks all my boxes, if you will. I picked the movie solely on the plot, cross my heart
