  • I get the Doogie Howser comparison a lot! Having a late birthday and finishing an accelerated med school program meant that I was in Med School by age 20! I had to watch Doogie Howser M.D. and see for myself if this boy prodigy really knows his stuff. Neil Patrick Harris, I see you.
    Anyway, I hope you enjoy this episode of Real Doctor Watches Doogie Howser M.D. / Real Doctor Reacts to Doogie Howser M.D. If you want me to continue making this doctor reaction video and medical drama review please give it a like and leave me a comment on which tv drama or show you'd like for me to review next. Honestly I think Doctor Mike called it; the age of the "victim" in that scenario is pretty secondary to the fact that those idiots thought it would be funny in the first place. I mean, the entire premise of the "joke" relied on him actually finding her somewhat attractive, and taking advantage of that to embarass him. It was a serious error in judgement on the parts of the people who set it up.
      Would it have been so bad if it was a serious thing for the two of them? That's... debatable. But kind of irrelevant to what it actually was, so there's little point in debating it.

      TheJjcczz Yep, her name is Michaela Quinn. The show is set in the late 1800s (right after the civil war) in Colorado (western frontier) and when the city hired her, the telegraph operator wrote down her name as “Michael A. Quinn” so they were expecting a man. When she arrived, most of the townsfolk refused to see a “lady doctor” but a few of them took her under their wing (she was from Boston and definitely not suited to frontier life). Some of them nicknamed her Dr. Mike. :)

      This wasn't a medical drama tho.. it's doogie howser, a show for KIDS.
      Kids loved it because it showed a kid being able to tell grownups what to do (what kid doesn't love that?).
      Commenting on it as if it was a modern drama show, commenting on all the things they got wrong.. I mean i know that's what mike does, but it's pointless. It's a KIDS SHOW... It's like commenting on shows on nikelodeon as if they were mainstream shows on HBO..

    So, I was wondering if this could actually happen. So I went to Google and did some searching around. This has happened, where a kid is a fully trained and educated doctor.
    Saw a story about a kid who did calculus at age four, graduated from New York University at thirteen, and his his medical, degree at seventeen. Sure, a year older than Doogie, but that's really cool.
    In another note, most students enter medical school at around 23 in the US, right?
    There's actually a girl here in Norway who's seventeen at the moment. When she finishes school she'll be the youngest doctor in the history of Norway. She'll be 23 when she's done with school and everything else, to then call herself Norways youngest doctor.

      There apparently was a kid who just graduated from the same college as me, he was 17 starting medical school. How is it possible that they could *graduate* at 17 though? As far as I know, you have to be 21 to get a medical license (I'm in pre-med as well).

    • @praxedes2
      @praxedes2 4 роки тому +17

      @@kanegordon9818 In the States, most people get a 4-year undergraduate degree (bachelor's degree) first - they would start this program at about age 18. This degree can be in anything, but most medical schools will require certain basic coursework that will prepare them for medical school (also there is a standardized test called the MCAT - so it helps to have a related-undergraduate degree). Then medical school would start after they already have a bachelors, so age 22-23 is the starting point for med school. There are a handful of programs that combing the undergrad and medical school - but they are very much the exception.
