========= Long Live The King LYRICS ==========
Dreams are seldom shattered by a bullet in the dark
Rulers come and rulers go, will our kingdom fall apart?
Who shall we now turn to, when our leaders lost their heart?
Lives are lost but at what cost, will the grand dream fall apart?
Killed by his own or by his foes, turned the tide
Three hundred years still no one knows, the secret remains
Broken dreams so grand, sing of his final stand, long live Carolus
Brought by soldiers’ hand, back to the fatherland, long live Carolus Rex
Brought him back to Sweden, where we put him in a chest
Years of war and agony, now the king can finally rest
What will be uncovered, from that cold November night
Fredrikshald, what happened there, will it ever come to light?
For their honor
For their glory
For the men that fought and bled
A soldier from Sweden remembers the dead
========= Historic Fact ==========
On November 30, 1718, Charles XII of Sweden was killed by a piece of metal that pierced his left temple during the siege of Fredriksten. The circumstances of his death are still unclear to this day.

Swedish is a north germanic language so its part of the germanic languages which include German, Dutch, Afrikaans etc.
He fell in battle at Fredrikshald while inspecting the enemy troops on the wall when he got shot and for a long time no one knew where the bullet came from. He had alot of enemies in the nobility who wanted to get rid of him but he was loved by the people and specially by the soldiers. With new technology etc. they have been able to determine the bullet type, angle of the shoot atc. with computers and there is no doubt that he was killed by an enemy bullet. After his death Sweden lost alot of it's territory and power in Europe.
Hectic!
The whole Carolus Rex album is a masterpiece.
All the songs I have heard for that album, has not disappointed
11:25 - Svealand (The land of the Swedes) is the middle of the three regions of Sweden, the others being Norrland (The land of the North) and Götaland (The land of the Goths).
As being a swede, this is the only song from the Carolus Rex albums I actually prefer in english. Well both versions are superb but somehow the english one gets to me. Probably it is when Joakim screams out: Fredrikshald!! This was a really great reaction, love when you do them both. And your pronounciation of the song was really good. All the best from Sweden.
Thanks for your kind words, I have had some comments in the past about my overall pronunciation not being very good, so this comment truly means a lot. Thank you 🤘
This song is about an event that marked 2 things in history:
1. Carolus Rex's death effectively means the end of the Swedish Empire, and Sweden's role as a big military power.
2. This was also the death of the last European Warrior-king. Most king at this point in time (1700's) did NOT participate in battles. Carolus was pretty much always in the front of the battle, and in the deepest fray.
It is believed the king died from a grapeshot from a Norwegian cannon.
Also, Swedish is a Germanic language, so it is related to German, Dutch and the like :)
Thanks for letting me know
Translation of the Swedish lyrics, so you can maybe get some of the shifted emphasis, but can't really be directly translated:
Death stod by the door, this cold winternight
Beraved of life, it stood written, when his destiny caught up
Who would now lead us, In a time that has ran out.
Lost our king, our sorrow is heavy, when his rule has ended
Did the shot come from his own army, the thought consumes
300 years and no one knows, his deaths secret
Dead on the realms border, the dream ran out in the sand
Long live Carolus, carried home by hand, return to Svealand(Sweden proper)
Long live Carolus Rex
The marching goes to Sweden, no songs in our line
carrying our king homewards still, over mountains and hills
How shall we remember him, was he a hero or not
foolishness or heroism, yes that is what you ought to ask yourself
Did the shot come from his own army, the thought consumes
300 years and no one knows, his deaths secret
Dead on the realms border, the dream ran out in the sand
Long live Carolus, carried home by hand, return to Svealand(Sweden proper)
Long live Carolus Rex
Last journey, new times appraoches, shall it finally be peace
but we will never be what we once were
Dead on the realms border, the dream ran out in the sand
Long live Carolus, carried home by hand, return to Svealand(Sweden proper)
Long live Carolus Rex
Dead on the realms border, the dream ran out in the sand
Long live Carolus, carried home by hand, return to Svealand(Sweden proper)
Long live Carolus Rex
Sabaton is, just that, Sabaton, they bring you in no matter where you are from
It's not known if Carolux Rex was killed by his own or by is foe. However recent investigations indicates that Carolux Rex actually was killed by his foe, not by his own!
"Likfärd" translates to cremation, which are not really the appropriate word here, it's more related to the journey his dead body took from Norway to Sweden.
Best regards from Sweden!
Likfärd is not the actual cremation, but the process of bringing ashes or a body to the tomb
o wow, ok. As an 'outsider' and what I have heard and learned about Carolux Rex, being killed by foe makes more sense than his own men. As I heard about the story where they fought, heavily outnumber in a barn or house or something, to protect him.
@@sametalhead4063 that was actually a while before he died, he survived that 😁
@@sametalhead4063 The reason for the rumor that the king was killed by Swedes, is due to he never stopped going to war. Ever since he was 16, so there was a lot of Swedes who where fed up with it.
Also, you're probably thinking of "The Skirmish at Bender" where the Ottoman ruler kicked the king out for overstaying his welcome after his loss at Poltava. It's when they brought the recipe for "Kofta" back to Sweden that later turned into our Swedish meatballs :)
Sverige is the name for Sweden and it literally means "svea rike" so we sometime refer to it as that.
Svear (eng: sweons) was the germanic people which the country was named after.
The three largest regions Sweden can be divided into is: Götaland, Svealand and Norrland in order from south to north.
Götar (eng: geats/goths) was another germanic people and the most southern region is named after them and of course the city of Göteborg (eng: Gothenburg).
Yes the modern namn is Sverige and that is literary Svea rike but in order toung and more like danish. Rige in danish is rike in swedish same reich in german = like country . In swedish we use bouth rike, land and nation almost same.
Older not order. My Phone change my spelling beacuse I have only autoccorekt for swedish!
Svealand is one of the main parts of Sweden. Sweden was made from an union between Svealand (land of the svear) and Götaland (land of the göter) in early medival Times. Stockholm is in Svealand.
btw, i work with someone from the, i think west side of South Africa
there is an English version to the swedish translation to this song
Svealand is an alternative name used in old times for Sverige (Sweden).
Today Sweden is divided by 3 parts GÖTALAND (Gautaland in Vikingtimes) , SVEALAND (the center part of Sweden where the power and Stockholm is situated) AND NORRLAND (Northland)
I see, thanks for letting me know. Visiting Sweden is a bucket list item for me, basically all of the Northern countries, but Sweden is top of the list
Love the overall setup. Keep rockin 🤘 Greetings from Germany
Awesome, thanks!! 🤘🤘
Keep em coming
yes sir 🤘
All Sabaton songs that relate to Swedish history have both Swedish and English lyrics. The album covers the time of the Swedish Empire (1611-1721) so most of the songs are centered arund the 30 years war (1618-1648) when Gustav II Adolf 1611-1632 (Gustavus Adophus, The Lion From The North) was king or The Great Northern War 1711-1721 when Karl XII 1697-1718 (Carolus Rex) was king.
Konunges Likfärd is directly translated The King's Corpse Journey, but in English you would probably say Funeral Procession.
Nice, thanks for the letting me know.
Between common Germanic roots as well as lots of contact between Old English and Old Norse, I often recognize words in Swedish also. Interestingly, one language UA-camr I saw said that Afrikaans was one of the easiest language for an English speaker to learn.
The way we pronounce certain words, has more of a German feel, and English people struggle with it. But a lot of Afrikaans word are also the same in both Afrikaans and English, so it makes sense yes.
Swedish language is related to German and Dutch. Gamla ord som arm, finger mm är samma. Titta på sabatons historia kanal de handlar om deras sånger.
kanal is also one. (in afrikaans kanaal)
You should react to sabaton history they go in depth about the history and a little about the song itself and this is about the death of king carolus rex or karl the 12th it was confirmed by a finnish research team that he was killed by a Norwegian danish soldier not his own men
Thanks, i'll check it out
"Killed by his own men" is about the possibility that he may have been fragged. This is probably not true but it is possible hench this persistant rumour.
noone knows if he was killed by his own or an enemy that is what they are singing
Most researchers are now leaning towards he was killed by the enemy, due the angle, the type of bullet, etc.
Bro went from a Boer to a biore
(I'm going to hope Boer isn't a slur now)
Boer will never be a slur, for the proud Boer nation 💪🏻. Although, I'm not sure what biore is, lol.
@@sametalhead4063 good I wasn't sure with how things have been going in South Africa for the past couple of decades. Also Biore is a play on the ancient Scandinavian word for bear which my key board won't let me type. Love from Zeeland!🇺🇲🇳🇱
are you mixed south African mi asking because well I'm currios or how ever you spell it
Mixed South African? not sure what you are asking.
Konung is King. Konungen is the King. Konungens is someting belong to the King. Lik is an dead body. Färd is travel (think fahren in german). Likfärd is the travel when take the body to the final rest.
hmmmm..... Something is wrong here
