Gustav II. was King of Sweden during the 30 years war, which was fought in central Europe. So he was "from the north".
Sabaton has a channel where they talk about the history behind the song, you should consider reacting to them after you listen to the song. It can give extra power to the lyrics when you know the story behind them.
I second this suggestion.
I agree
on youtube?
@@CVTECK1 Yes look up Sabaton History channel. There are plenty of videos to react to there.
@@CVTECK1 yeah, the channel is called Sabaton History.
Sabaton writes songs about Swedish History :) Gustav II Adolf was Swedens founder, before him there were a lot of wars and "kings" that wanted to rule the areas that from the middle of 1600 Gustav II Adolf pointed out as Sweden and then ruled for some years.
Libera et impera - Liberate and rule
Acerbus et ingens - Merciless and powerful
Augusta per angusta - To greatness through obstacles
Known as the 'Lion From The North', King Gustavus Adolphus of Sweden was a pioneer of modern warfare and statesmanship. He laid the foundations for the Swedish Empire and influenced many elements of the modern Swedish state. After his death, he was given the formal title of Gustav Adolf the Great. and he did die in Battle of Lützen ... the war was about Belive system really .. " Catholic and Lutheran stats " ...
The song is about the great European war called The 30 years war which took place 1618-1648.
Whole Europe was involved and millions died from all countries, and some consider it being the actual first world war.
Gustavus Adolphus was the latin name of the swedish king Gustav II Adolf, a military genuis but also responsible for the death of so many young men.
any good video on Gustavus?
@@CVTECK1 if you are interested in swedish military history I suggest wikipedia
Its 7 years war thats considered first ww due to it involved alot of colonis and so on, if i remember correct.
The song is from the album Carolus Rex and the entire album is about the Swedish Empire. Sabaton released it in both swedish and english 😸
Also at 4:40 the song is in Latin, those arent names
😺
Joakim (The singer) has a voice of a Commander
React to Sabaton - En livstid i krig (live). WITH SUBTITLES ON! It's a must watch!
Awsome reaktion👌
I’m born on the 9:th of August 🦁 I have had that nickname sinne I saw the statue of Gustav the 2:nd in Gothenbourg.
Huggzzz from the North of Sweden
Great reaction!🤘🦁 Gustav II Adolf, king of Sweden 1611-1632. He was more or less dragged in to the war, that started off as a conflict between protestants and catholics in Central Europe. Protestant cities in Northern Germany begged him to help out. He and the Swedish army was busy in an older conflict against Poland. But the catholic emperor was expanding north and closer to the Baltic Sea. If they succeeded, our Swedish borders would have been threatened. Gustav Adolf died in the battle of Lutzen (Germany) in 1632. The war lasted 1618-1648. By the end of the war the Swedish territory was way bigger than it is today. We were actually a great power in the North at the time.
My spirit animal is also a Lion, but it was this particular song that made me choose this user name.😉
I love how happy this song makes you.
If you want a truly awesome song by sabaton
Attack of the dead men.
Look up the meaning on song lyrics before you listen, you cannot fail to be moved by such heroics.
Gustavus Adolhpus =Gustaf II Adolf, (the swedish king)🇸🇪
Sabaton have a history channel where they go in depth about the history and a little about the song itself and this is about king gustaf adolfphus of sweden he became king at age 16 at this point sweden was on the brink of destruction but he completely turned it around he was also the very first military leader to use combined arms warfare which we still use today with infantry tanks etc not to mention he taught several military Generals who would later on become famous
From the north refers to the Swedish Empire as it swept down to Europe and waged war in Denmark, the Baltics, Germany and it's final defeat at Poltava. Sabaton also has a song that tells about the 30 year war as it's known in Swedish. It's called 'En livstid i krig' ( A Lifetime at War). Definately worth a listen to the live version at Gothenburg.
Its about the 30 years war between 1618 to 1648. Most of Europe was involved more or less.
Gustav Adolfus was the king of Sweden killed in battle in 1632.
There are a few words in Latin language as well.
Gustavus Adolphus
Libera et impera
Acerbus et ingens
Augusta per augusta
lyrics roughly translate to:
Free and command
Harsh and great
Honors through difficulties
thanks brother
One of my favourite Sabaton tracks...
But I want the "intro" (Dominium Maris Baltici, first track on the album) to be included :)
They fought them all!
If you want an awesome live song with Sabaton you should react to en livstid I krig (a lifetime of war) live Scandinavium Gothenburg.
The album Carlous rex ( the same album that the lion of the north is from) is about a part of Swedish history called the era of great power (stormaktstiden in Swedish) from when Sweden was a much bigger nation with ambitions of expanding.
The album was released with both an Swedish and English version, the difference being that the Swedish one tells the story from our/a Swedish soldiers view, while the English one is more from an outsiders view.
It is the Swedish version they played at that show so be sure the subtitles are on,I was at that show and all I can say is that you will not regret it.
Amazing video bro, thx for doing my idea. Theres some other songs I would love you to check out (Attack of the dead men) (Carolus rex) and (Poltava) is sabatons best songs for me

Gustavus Adolf!
Liberate and rule!
Fearful and mighty!
Noble (things, deeds) through hardships, torments
Libera, Liberate
Et Impera, if I remember right means "and Reign"?
Acerbus, I believe means fierce
Et Ingens, believe this translates to "and Mighty"
