- Thanks for checking this video out. My face will be reacting to Denmark’s entry in the Eurovision Song Contest 2018. The song is Higher Ground by Rasmussen. I do not own any of the video or audio reacted to in this clip. It is for entertainment purposes only.

Hi from Denmark :) The story behind the song is about a viking who refused to go into war and violence in the new lands they visited. It's a strong text to spread out for the world today.
The viking was Magnus Erlendson. He was a Jarl of the Orkney islands of present day Scotland. He was executed with an axe to the head, deemed as a coward by other vikings, but later on he was sainted by catholics.

This song was inspired by a gentle pacifist viking leader.
Id be fine if he wasnt pacifist, still good song. Just saying.... history is our and we dont have to make excuses all the time. Others never do.
Well, I don't think he's making excuses for viking violence (because for the most part they were merchants and not savage raiders as pop-culture depicts them), he's just saying that we should solve problems the diplomatic way and not violently, by bringing an example from the past. But I do agree that no one should make excuses or hide the past. One of the things that irks me the most is people looking at history through modern standards and saying how awful certain people or concepts were, when they actually weren't according to their contemporary standards.
On a side note, this song has a kind of Disney feel to it. Maybe one day we'll get an animated version of Eurovision? Ovidiu Anton (Romania 2016) should probably be the villain, perhaps back to get revenge on the disqualification. One of the heroes would be Omar Naber (Slovenia 2017), but then things seem to go quite badly and he decides to give up, and then Rasmussen barges in to stop the fight. This year's Spain would fill the obligatory romance slot.
He was King of Norway... In the 11th century you couldn't be a King if you were a pacifist... He refused to fight against monks because they posed no threat.
Yeah, I guess "pacifist" isn't the best word to use, but it gets the point across when generalising.
True strength is not using force... That's the lesson...

This eurovision for me was very special , cause , for the first time , Portugal host an eurovision contest ❤️🇵🇹

A Hello from Denmark!
First of all i want to thank you so much for taking your time to see the danish contribution to this years Eurovison Song contest.
Unfortunally it do not win but we made it into the top 10 best songs as number 9.
At the first the jury votes was not good to Denmark but it turned when the votes from the wiewers came in we ranked from second last to number 9 and the danes are happy enough for that, sure i would have been nice to win again last time was in 2014 with the song Only teardrops preformed by Emelie De Forest and we are still not finish paying of the bill from then (LOL) So another victory would have ruined us (LOL)
This years song from us is about peace i know it sounds wierd because of the viking themed stage show but if you are listen to the lyrics he is singing about to lay our weapons down and move on to a higher ground (peace).
The viking theme is carefully calculated, because it is our roots, our heritage and our history and even the vikings became peaceful as time went by.
They are even saying that Denmark has one of the worlds happiest population and we are very calm and peaceful today and have a good sense of humour.
But again thank you for your kind words to our song.

Vikings are rather famous for their skill in shipbuilding and raiding of other kingdoms. They also did trade with people, like the Middle East. They even got as far as America by sailing over the Arctic Sea. Though technically it was more around Canada, however, they discovered the American continent hundreds of years before Columbus did. Point being, they didn't sing about pirates. Only vikings.

The song was still the best tbh.....like Denmark deserved way more votes than it did ( Who TF voted for Lithuania? I think the performance was total bs!) the song is supposed to be about Vikings actually according to what i´ve heard it was something about his family was vikings back when vikings was a thing a long time ago the chant thing you hear in the song is icelandic as its the language thats closest to how the spoke in the Viking age atlas thats what i´ve heard i think that was how it went coming from Denmark myself i really think this was the best song however if i should pick any other country i´d say netherlands or Italy cause they were amazing this year

I like this song.
But I would have LOVED it to bits if it was a little rockier.
There is actuarlly a specific genre called "Viking metal", a lot of it is close to death metal, but some of it actuarlly reminds more of Rasmussen, only slightly heavier.
I thought Rasmussen were good. However If they had added more drums and guitar I would have literally been in heaven xD

The song would have been stronger if they were less reliant on the synth sound. It created a strange mix. It would have fitted his voice better.
