As a Norwegian, I would say that this is one of the big Scandinavian classics of music in general. I actually thought it was a bit older. Umm yeah keep reaching for the stars you say to one of the biggest Scandinavian stars there is haha. She has released over 20 albums, her first one was in the early 80s and it topped the charts in Norway, Sweden, Denmark and Finland. She still sings now, she's in her 50s.
Well, Carola was for a long time the Swedish 'Miss Eurovision', she won the Swedish MelFest 3 times, in 1983 she was very young - came 3rd at ESC, she won ESC with this whirwind 1991, and in 2006 her entry came in 5th at ESC.
Also, a translation of the chorus: "I'm captured by a whirlwind Infatuated with you, nothing can stop me When it's blowing in my heart Captured by a whirlwind Night and day, here it's only you and me And the light that the heaven left for us"
Å prounced like a in «all». It's a Scandinavian letter! That wind machine took so much electricity that the sound broke down in the hall. She didn't hear the backing singer or herself in the loud speaker. Welcome to the Eurovision before in air contest, Jake!
Eurovision 1991 went down in history as a huge organisatorial mess. Lots of things went wrong behind and on the stage, so this little story fits the pattern. ;-)
Marc Exner Yes that's how it is when you move from one city to another less than a month before the final is taking place! I must add that the voting was more a «live show from Green room», the score board was hardly shown from time to time.
I love your new intro graphic. You should also check Carola’s other 2 entries: 1983’s “Framling” which finished 3rd, and 2006’s “Invincible” which finished 5th. The top 4 in ‘91 was good. France finished 2nd but it was technically a tie. Based on a tiebreaker, Sweden won. In the new rules, France would have won. Israel’s entry was a lot of fun. And Spain had a great ballad. Too bad Italy was not a great host that year. 😬
I like this song but it's not my favourite Carola entry - I prefer Främling. And this song is definitely typical of Swedish entries running from the 80's to mid-2000's especially. It's a type of music-style called schlager which Sweden was famous for sending to the contest even when it fell out of mainstream popularity. In Sweden the national pre-selection Melodifestivalen is still referred to as Schlagerfestivalen among the people, and there's a belief there that only certain types of music belong at Eurovision. It's why Sweden tends to send uptempo music to the contest even today, even though it tends to be more contemporary.
Btw, Jake, did you ever react to Erovision 2013 interval act? It's a song about Sweden performed by Petra Mede. Carol even appeared for a moment in it.
So you know all the winners in competitions that is in USA or for example Korea? I dont. Thats what I like about Jake. He is an outsider that comment just on the song and performance without all the facts behind them.
Aaah, fångad av en stormvind - Catched by a love storm! If you like Carola, she was in the ESC also as a young girl in 1983, and then as a mature woman in 2006. Both attempts is worth reacting to. And yes - this is what Sweden sounded like inthe ESC way back before our country became a big pop music nation. Spot on, Jake! 😂
It was hosted in Rome that year because of Toto Cutugno's win in 1990, to date the last time Italy hosted. It was the 3rd of out Sweden's 6 wins and the last time they did so with a song in Swedish. Personally this is my favourite Swedish entry after 2015 and maybe 2008. Carola also participated in 1983 finishing 3rd and in 2006 finishing 5th.
Actully she finished 2nd. They got the same amount of points and 12 points. But Sweden had got one more 10 point than them, which gave Sweden the 1st place.
Naw glad you enjoyed it! Really the pop diva of Sweden, Carola participated 3 times and ended up in the top 5 all each time! Hope you listen to France 1991 also as they ended up in the most recent tiebreaking win of the ESC!
We had a tie with Sweden and France that year. By the current rules France would have won since it got points from one more country than Sweden. Israel was also super close.
Is that true?? Both got 12 points from four countries, But sweden got 10 points from five countries, while France got 10 points from only two other countries. 17 countries gave points to Sweden, 18 to France. I thought the number of placements as 1-2-3 (Sweden 11 countries; France 9 countries) was more important than total number of countries? Has that changed?
You should be reacting to France 1991 immediately after this one since they ended up in a tie for first place with the same amount of points. Sweden won because of the decisive ruling at the time, but France would under current rules
The English translation that it was given (not the literal translation however) was "captured by a lovestorm" which she released as a single in English.
one of the most professional and polished performances ever, i'd say. Boppy, exciting song, great dancers. It was a terrific entry and a good winner, though Duo Datz, "Kan," from the same year is definitely Top 5 of my all-time favorite ESC songs (up there with Sweden 2015, Portugal 2017, and Norway 1995) so i'm partial to another, but Sweden is still my overall favorite country in the ESC :) Hey so, Asia is supposedly getting its own "-Vision Song Contest" later this year. If it really does happen, will you react to that?
no, in 1991 the language rule was still effective, so each country must sing in their own language, the video Jake has reacted it's the eurovision one, so it's in swedish as it must be. I've never heard a english version of that.
Didn't know the song until watching this video - but the music and vocals sound very familiar. Was there also an english version broadcasted at various european countries? I can remember hearing that song (with english lyrics) in Austria years ago, :hmm: was for sure in the austrian charts I think.
She actually represented Sweden 3 times! I think she came 3rd in 1983? Maybe 1984 She won 1991 and I don't remember her 3rd result but she did it in 2006 I love her energy and presence ❤️
Linda Kristine Kjørlibråten She came 3rd, 1st and 5th in Eurovision? What a legend! Also, was that 1983 or 1984? I always get confused with Linda Martin
You should react right away to the French entry of that same year to have a comparison. Both songs got the same amount of points and both are completely different styles ob music. Carola had an energetic mainstream pop song while Amina had an ethno-style sophisticated piece of art. When I was a kid I was of course pro Carola but I grew to appreciate the French entry more and more as I got older. I'm pretty sure if there had been televoting that year there wouldn't have been a tie and Carola would have won.
I would love to know what would have happened if televote had been possible back then tbh I also would love to know what would have happened if they had let them both win...I think they should have, they were so different and yet both so great
Time to go one year back in time, and react to Italy 1990 and Toto Cutugno with "Insieme:1992". A real legend of italian music of the '80s, maybe you know his song "L'italiano" , he was the first to win with a political song, a hymn to the unification of Europe after the fall of Berlin's wall....
Carola has represented Sweden 3 times in ESC. 1983 with Främling (Stranger), 1991 with this song that she won with (the title in English would be Cought by a Hurricane) and 2006 with Evighet (in ESC she actually sang in English, so she translated her song to Invincible, even though evighet actually means eternity, but invincible works better with the song in English). She is still one of our biggest artists here in Sweden. =)
"Perhaps this is what Sweden sounded like before they became the pop song mecha of music industries" Jake, that was the third victory for Sweden, and the second time Carola represented Sweden in Eurovision.
U should react to other performances of hers! Like 2006's ESC "Invincible" from the semi-final och the national semi-final. She is one of the greatest artists/singer in sweden of all time! Also, u should listen to her singing "Pride, in the name of love" from a TV4 performance, and also All by myself!
This was Swedens third victory, after 1974 and 1984 and she still is the queen of Eurovision in Sweden since she participated three times getting a victory, and a third and fifth place.
Fångad av en stormvind or Captured by a Lovestorm, in english was Swedens 3rd win in the Eurovision. That was Carolas 2nd time out of 3 competing for Sweden in Eurovision. Fångad av en stormvind got same points as France that year and both got the same amounts of 12 points so it came down to how many 10 points were given to the countrys and Sweden had most 10 points. And didnt Carola look a little like Monica from Friends 🤔😮🙂
This is not the place maybe haha it’s a Swedish reaction video, but, please check Netta - Toy acoustic and she sings the chorus with Estonia’s La Forza twist. You’ll love it Jake!!
She's quite big here in Sweden and are quite often included in different music programmes. She has an holier than thou aura around her and she also comes off like a bully to me - like she knows she's good and no one else matters. She might be the sweetest person out there, I havent met her in person, but my own opinion about her is that I can't stand her, she's simply too much. I think she's a person that you either hate or love.
Carola is a huge celebrity in Sweden, I think she's quite humble considering. People who have issues with Carola tend to have issues with her religious leanings (like they do with Tom Cruise), I've never met someone who has an issue with her otherwise, so this is a first. She's generally quite liked in Sweden in my experience. Unless schlager-haters hate her for her relation to the genre, that I can see. :D
Mie R I met her after a consert she took part in, she was a guest perforning artist in a group that went around in Norway, the rest were Norwegians, singing popular music from the 50s and the 60s. Amongst other songs she sang «Love me tender» by Elvis. One of the regular artists was Tor Endresen (Norway Eurovision 1997).
It would be fun if you could react to Frida Boccara - Un jour, un enfant (France) Lulu - Boom bang-a-bang (UK) Salome - Vivo cantando (Spain) Lenny Kuhr - Le troubadour (Netherlands) All of them ended up with the same points in 1969. Listen to all of them and tell us who you think was the rightful winner.
Here is Carola performing this in English, in case you want to check it out: Captured By a Lovestorm: ua-cam.com/video/rscQQnNvAow/v-deo.htmlm56s Btw, the comment about reaching for the stars actually fits the lyrics of the song she competed with in 1983 "Främling" a bit, because there are lyrics like "Stars that I see, I want to take one down for you, there beyond the sky is an eternity, if you want to discover it with me"
Carola have been in the Eurovision three times. 1983, 1991 and 2006. Here in Sweden she's quite big. If you want to hear the english version I acctually found a version: ua-cam.com/video/OYLqvvPnFno/v-deo.html
She is one of our biggest singers here in Sweden. We sent her to eurovision 3 times
And still she managed to find her way back home?
What?
Yeah
As a Norwegian, I would say that this is one of the big Scandinavian classics of music in general. I actually thought it was a bit older.
Umm yeah keep reaching for the stars you say to one of the biggest Scandinavian stars there is haha.
She has released over 20 albums, her first one was in the early 80s and it topped the charts in Norway, Sweden, Denmark and Finland. She still sings now, she's in her 50s.
Alf Tuvik Han har ikke reagert på Bettan enda og pauseinnslaget i Bergen inneholder jo en verdensstjerne fra byen!
Haha ja thats quite hilarious.....she is epic in our Scandic countries 🇩🇰🇳🇴🇮🇸🇸🇪
It screams WINNER.
Carola actually won for Sweden in 1991, it's a fun song 😊

Eva Swingo well she still are by Swedish winner standards :)
Yeh
Song means in English "Captured by a whirlwind"
well you are correct, but the english title was "captured by a lovestorm"
@@zpitzer That's dumb
@@lucaswallo8127 It's right though as I have the UK 7 inch single in English.
@@upfrontbear74 It's still dumb because it's weirdly translated.
Captured by a storm wind .prise par un tourbillon.genommen mit einem Sturm.
I love this song
Carola also participated in 1983 with Främling (3rd place) and Invicible in 2006 (6th place) :)
ESC 2006, she came 5th place. :-)
Ah, I always mix up 5th and 6th with her. Sweden have been around those placement a lot these recent years :P
Also, a translation of the chorus:
"I'm captured by a whirlwind
Infatuated with you, nothing can stop me
When it's blowing in my heart
Captured by a whirlwind
Night and day, here it's only you and me
And the light that the heaven left for us"
Thank you. I love those lyrics.💛💙

Please react to Carola - främling 1983
This one was much better. Love from your neigbor Denmark
I mean Främling.
Cicilia Svensson my all time favorite karaoke song
I love your new intro graphic.
You should also check Carola’s other 2 entries: 1983’s “Framling” which finished 3rd, and 2006’s “Invincible” which finished 5th.

You should react to her 2006 entry: Carola - Invincible (Sweden) 2006 Final
She's a huge star in Sweden, schlager queen :D
Wow, her voice is amazing!
React to Sweden 2006, Carola with Invincible!
Fun fact her ear piece cut out halfway through ...she didn't miss a beat though
She was also in the 2006 Eurovision with the song Invincible (or Evighet in Swedish)
And also in. 1983:, with the song Främling 🌟
And she finished top 5 in all of her participations!
One of my all time favorites. :)
I like this song but it's not my favourite Carola entry - I prefer Främling. And this song is definitely typical of Swedish entries running from the 80's to mid-2000's especially. Also the birth of the wind machine in Eurovision
This was a fun day to be a swede-first we became worldchampions in icehockey, and then we won ESC.
Happy times!
Indeed, it was a wonderful day! And it was soooo exciting at the end of the voting when Carola finally won.
Btw, Jake, did you ever react to Erovision 2013 interval act? It's a song about Sweden performed by Petra Mede. Carol even appeared for a moment in it.
San'Ka Games no he hasn't done that yet I've been suggesting it too
Oh yeeees Jake please react to that!
I've also suggested that he react to Lynda Woodruff because she's also so amazing
Did she sing live while doing these moves? Sounds just like the record.. no wonder she is one of swedens all time singers
She’s the Swedish Madonna, super popular back in the day
Hi Jake! Check out Carola in Eurovision 2006. She is awsome there.
Thanks for reacting on one of my requests
You’re welcome.👍
lucky you! I have asked and asked but.....
Filip Åström Lucky you! Still waiting! How does it feel?
Linda Kristine Kjørlibråten frustrating but hopeful! 😉
smilanlog Yes it is!! But I wondered how it felt for Filip to have his wish come true! :-)
Shame that Jake didn't know it was a winner.
So you know all the winners in competitions that is in USA or for example Korea? I dont. Thats what I like about Jake. He is an outsider that comment just on the song and performance without all the facts behind them.
Spain should have won that year. Such an amazing interpretation of a very beautiful song.
Sergio Dalma - Bailar pegados
I love that song. It's still one of the highlights of Dalma live performances.
Dretxu 37 Oh it's beautiful.
LOL that leg work :D :D

Jake your pronunciation is good. Carola is a great singer.
Back then when you HAD to sing in your native language and couldn't cop out and switch to English.
her voice is so amazing
For some reason this song reminds me of 80s movies like Ghostbusters. I know this song was early 90s but I get an 80s vibe.
The dancers are good
My favourite entry ever might be a bit biased though lol, you did totally fine with the pronunciation of the songs name btw :)
Really? That’s a first.😊
Please react, Amina Annabi - Eurovision 1991 : C'est le dernier qui a parlé qui a raison, She finished first with Sweden this year. ! :)
Actully she finished 2nd. They got the same amount of points and 12 points. But Sweden had got one more 10 point than them, which gave Sweden the 1st place.
@@solaliz Practically yes, technically they did tie for 1st place and were winners together, even if just for 30 seconds :"

That rule was changed.. now the tiebreaker is how many countries voted for you = more consensus
OK, I liked the French song, but since I am Swedish I didn't mind Carola winning. :)
This may surprise you, but this entry won that year. :)
One of my favorite winners
React to Luxembourg 1973 🇱🇺 too Please. It is the WINNER with the biggest percentage of available points!
Jeffrey The best winner EVER
It had another voting system so it's hard to compare xD
nil erra true, But It still worth watching.
I second that! :) Love her voice and her performance for France in 1979 too
i don't know what this music style/genre is called but i like it :^)
please also react to 1985 Sweden and Norway (the winner)
The way you did pronunce "Fångad av en stormvind.... 😂😂😂💯
Request: Romania 2013, Cezar - It's My Life
React to another Carola entry for Sweden in 2006 :)
Freeeesh!!!
one of the most professional and polished performances ever, i'd say. Boppy, exciting song, great dancers. Carola also sings gospel and country Her voice is very strong
I used to secretly love Carola back in the 80s and early 90s - would only listen to her with the headphones on though, lol...
Sweden was the winner of Eurovision 1991. She performed the song in Swedish at the national selection but performed it in English at Eurovision.
no, in 1991 the language rule was still effective, so each country must sing in their own language, the video Jake has reacted it's the eurovision one, so it's in swedish as it must be. I've never heard a english version of that.

Something like "Caught by a hurricane"
She sings about being caught in a hurricane, with someone she loves and the wind blowing through her heart.
Norway 1985)
"Can smell the scent of a still ocean and suddenly I'm in a living hurricane" is a choice.
BOOM! Just did that.
I believe she saying that she was capture by a love storm... Please Jake, if you can, react to Portugal 1991, is same year. ✌❤
Please react to : France 1991 😁😊
It's on his list, but I would like him to react to this one back to back since they ended up in a tie
matt59 France 1991 its my favorite of all times
Now u have to react to her entry in the eurovision 2006! Song called ”Invincible” ^^
Yes i been wating on this ❤️❤️❤️Love you
❤️
Carola has represented Sweden 3 times in ESC. 1983 with Främling (Stranger), 1991 with this song that she won with (the title in English would be Cought by a Hurricane) and 2006 with Evighet (in ESC she actually sang in English, so she translated her song to Invincible, even though evighet actually means eternity, but invincible works better with the song in English). She is still one of our biggest artists here in Sweden. =)
Greece's entry of 1991 is still a hit at parties in Greece until now!! Please react to it as well!! :]
This is also one of my faves... 😁 12 points from The Netherlands 🤘
Hi. Carola won Eurovision 1991.. but have competed 4-5 times. Trapped by a storm wind
"Perhaps this is what Sweden sounded like before they became the pop song mecha of music industries"
Jake, that was the third victory for Sweden, and the second time Carola represented Sweden in Eurovision.
And she even won Eurovison that year with this song mate ;)
Well Pop all ready started with Abba didnt it?
She won that year on tiebreak rules of the time against France. So another winner react.
Carola also competed 1983 and 2006.
React to Switzerland 1956! (”Refrain” with Lys Assia) The first winner ever!
Lucas Ledin lys assia died this year so that will be a good tribute
I second that (again)! Such a cult song in the contest! :)
Sweden lets gooooooooo
U should react to other performances of hers! Like 2006's ESC "Invincible" from the semi-final och the national semi-final.
She is one of the greatest artists/singer in sweden of all time!
Also, u should listen to her singing "Pride, in the name of love" from a TV4 performance, and also All by myself!
She sang in the Church of Sweden, it was there that she was discovered.
This was Swedens third victory, after 1974 and 1984 and she still is the queen of Eurovision in Sweden since she participated three times getting a victory, and a third and fifth place.
She became a star in the early 80s.
She also had a lot of energy in 2006 when she finished 5th
Carola competed the year before this as well, but only came in second place in the Melodifestivalen.

It's time of Romania 2013!!
She is oh so trapped in a storm. 😀 Swedish translation was "Captured by a Love Storm"
Hope you're doing ok. ❤️ /Ss sweden
As someone whose vacation in summer of 91 was to Sweden, this is probably my most hated song on the surface of the earth.
This is not the place maybe haha it’s a Swedish reaction video, but, please check Netta - Toy acoustic and she sings the chorus with Estonia’s La Forza twist. You’ll love it Jake!!
I thought she was going to start singing footloose lol
Even if Sweden had ABBA, Loreen, Måns and other winners - Carola will forever be Sweden’s Eurovision queen!
Queen!! React to her ESC 2006 performance too please!

It would be fun if you could react to
Frida Boccara - Un jour, un enfant (France)
Lulu - Boom bang-a-bang (UK)
Salome - Vivo cantando (Spain)
Lenny Kuhr - Le troubadour (Netherlands)
All of them ended up with the same points in 1969. Listen to all of them and tell us who you think was the rightful winner.
Here is Carola performing this in English, in case you want to check it out:

Btw, the comment about reaching for the stars actually fits the lyrics of the song she competed with in 1983 "Främling" a bit, because there are lyrics like "Stars that I see, I want to take one down for you, there beyond the sky is an eternity, if you want to discover it with me"
You can react TURKEY in the same year.Very energetic song
Carola also represented Sweden in 1983 and 2006
Carola have been in the Eurovision three times. 1983, 1991 and 2006. Here in Sweden she's quite big.
If you want to hear the english version I acctually found a version:
