He is the ultimate winner. This song had been an incredibly popular hit. Everyone was listening to it, EVERYONE. And Fairytale had received the biggest amount of points by the time the new voting system was established. And maybe he was chosen this year because of his previous achievements... But Fairytale was the 100% hit which everyone knew :)
This song is nice and everything but I would say Loreen with Euphoria is the ultimate winner so far. She might get a little less total point than Alexander. However, after the Eurovision, Euphoria went to top 10 in like 30 countries. It even reached top 100 in Japan's chart!
I'm pretty sure he came back this year to relive the experience - he's not here to win this time, he's here to have fun, and to be honest his song and charisma on stage definitely achieves that with me, too.
Yes, in fact he said in an interview that although he said several times that he would never come back he came back because he wants to relive the experience again, that he didn't really expect to win and obviously he didn't win but I loved his 2018 performance.
My obsession with Eurovision started from this song and this young man. I already know that I am voting for him this year too (irrespective of his current song). This is my first Eurovision love and I stay true to it
Fairytale it's a sweet song and it deserved a win. But this year song it kind of remind me of fairytale it's the same style. So in my opinion it doesn't deserve this year win!
Yes!! I have always loved this, the violin is typichally Nordic Folklore, his Charisma. All the world liked it. He got 12 points from almost every countries. There was no question. (But my daughter never liked it, sadly, I don't know why?)
Eva Swingo 16 12 points, 9 10 points and 11 8 points. We heard Norway 36 times, since they read the top 3 at those days, but not all of them were 12 points!! No country gave zero.
Ireland & Norway combining their Celtic/Nordic sounds, so beautiful. Hasn't dated either. I know, I'm answering you 4 years later!! Greetings from Ireland 🇮🇪 ❤️ 🇳🇴
"Ja, vi elsker dette landet, som det stiger frem furet, værbitt over vandet, med de tusen hjem". The most charming winning entry in ages! He knew the minute he stepped onto that stage that the trophy was ment for him :D I just wanted to add that there were so many awesome performances that year. Everyone brought their A-game. Alexander won with 387p over the runner up Iceland's 218p. So it was a very popular win. As you might now the new scoring, that we have today, was introduced in 2016. Now the double ammount of points are handed out, as jury and televote points are given seperately, instead of the combined score we had back then. 2009 The jury was also brought back to have a 50/50 say in the scoring of the Grand Final performance.
Hahahaaa! Thnx Jake! First, yeah FAIRYTALE has become an EPIC ESC winner. Second, if he had done something simular to Fairytale, it would have been "wrong" as well.. He will score on his live performance, since that's where he has his forte. This yrs entry is childish.. maybe, but still.. it's actually quite wellwritten, and he, Alexander, was actually offered large sums (several million NOK's) to perform in ESC for Belarus, and he rather do it for free for Norway... Anyways, thanks again. always fun watching. All the Best, Love and Success from Arctic LoVe Islands, Norway
This is the song that started my love with Eurovision. I was in Norway in 2009 and it was EVERYWHERE! You couldn't go to any party without this song coming on. I was so proud to see Norway won, and on top of that won with the most points ever before the new voting system. I love Alexander but the entry this year (2018) is horrible. Lets just pretend this years entry never happened and keep 2009 Alexander.
I wonder how people can be so sure before they have actually seen his performance in Lisbon. It's OK not to like the song, but I think it would be fair to watch the performance before making conclusions. In Lisbon he'll be joined by some really talented dancers and singers, so I am pretty sure he'll deliver a really good show on stage. With that said, 'Fairytale' is an amazing composition. And I don't think Alexander is trying to surpass his own success from 2009. He simply loves music and he loves Eurovision. I'm excited to see him back :)
Years have gone by and this song and winning performance is still engraved in my mind... this is the ultimate Eurovision song when I think about Eurovision I think about this song.. nothing else
I wasn't expecting Alexander to recreate his win from 2009, but I have to admit with Norway's entry this year I was incredibly disappointed. I looked forward to it (I don't listen to the songs before the semi-finals on principle) and my hopes were completely crushed. That's How You Write A Song was catchy, but that really was all there was to it and the violin just wasn't enough to save it. It was like taking everything that Alexander was and turn it mainstream losing what made people love him in the process. But meh.. I guess that's my opinion.
Your expressions are so great and genuine. I like both songs but I actually prefer his song this year, and I would be happy if he won again. Keep up the great videos!
I comepletly understand why he won, although he was not my favorite that year. This song is epic, the stage performance is outstanding, and its just perfect 😊
Hello from Turkey❤️2020 and I’m still listening this song. It was an epic.Every country love this song🌸And we miss Eurovision I hope someday we will back🙏🏼😊
If you have the time later on, you should react to the 2003-2007 winners too. From 2003 onward, it's when Eurovision venues started to become bigger and heavily-produced staging became a thing. Also, if you have no idea who won in 2006... let's just say your reaction would be really fun to watch.
I love this song. One of my favorite Eurovision hits! ❤❤ However, I agree with you about his entry this year. When I heard he was Norway's entry this year, I got high expectations. Then I heard "this is how you write a song" I was disappointed. He's such a talented artist and you can tell he's having fun performing it, but the song isn't great.
2009 was one of the best Eurovosion Song Contests ever. And even though Fairytale had an uncontested victory there were so many other great entries worth to talk about: Iceland - Yoahnna - Is it true? Turkey - Hadise - Düm tek tek Bosnia and Herzegowina - Regina - Bistra voda Sweden - Malena Ernman - La voix Azerbaijan - AySel & Arash - Always Estonia - Urban - Symphony - Rändajad France - Patricia Kaas - Et s'il falliat le faire
Please do the reaction of Poland 2016. Michal Szpak was 22 in jury voting and 3 in public voting. He is an amazing vocalist. Even J.K Rowling's husband voted him.
He held the score record (most points ever in ESC-history) until 2017 when Portugal broke the record. And it is my all time favourite winner! Hands down!
That was a great year! Iceland (Yohanna - Is it true) and Estonia (Urban symphony - Rändajad) was amazing as well, and deserves recognition, you should totally react to them!
Yup, that year was miles apart from what he delivered this year. SO much better, and I had no idea how they could even attempt to get that song in from this year. I believe only rreason he got to the finals this year was because he was a recognizable face that people had seen before. Wish the song had been better, like the one from '08
Rybak himself has said that "Fairytale" will always remain his big hit. I don't mind "That's How You Write a Song", it's not a bad song, it's just average by his standards. It's catchy as well, but it is in a totally different genre which shouldn't be compared to "Fairytale". Because if you do, you will get dissapointed.
I remember the day he won ESC. We were going out afterwards, and they played that song ALL the time at the bar.. And EVERY SINGLE time everyone was singing along and dancing. Two days later everyone hated it because they were sick of it though, haha..
one of the most iconic entries ever, one of the biggest winners ever, and for me this just screams "Europe" in general :p As an aside, go check the numbers for Melodi Grand Prix that year. If you thought Alexander crushed the competition at ESC, well......lol. :p And yeah, Fairytale feels way more organic and natural while THYWAS feels way more forced and pieced together. Fairytale really allowed Rybak to stretch while THYWAS just limits him majorly
I don't even know why I'm saying this but you remind me of my father. You look alike. Both really handsome. And I love your reactions because the face expressions are priceless! Thank you!
A request I would like to put forward is Aesthetic Perfection with any of the following songs: Gods and Gold (with Richard Z Kruspe on guitars) S E X/Gravity/Automaton (with Sebastian Svalland on guitars) Party Monster (with Jinxx on guitars)
I can't stop watching Jake's video reactions😊 I knew, you will love Alexander's song and performance. And you definitely loved it right from the first seconds😊 You should watch Loreen Euphoria 2012 Eurovision winning song. You'll be stunned by it, believe me😊
This is technically the best eurovision song of all time since he broke all the records with the highest EVER score using the old system.
Qwerty Theatre but by percentage only the 5th best
@@dvjd621h37db by percentage fairytale is still the highest scoring
@@melina12345 No 1973 Luxembourg got the highest percentage
Mattis Betzner With the older voting system but still
Molitva is the best in my Opinion
He is the ultimate winner. This song had been an incredibly popular hit. Everyone was listening to it, EVERYONE. But of course, these two entries we talked about have like... nothing compared to ABBA and Celine Dion.
Even when we convert the new voting system into the old one
Amar Pelos Dois has more points then fairytale
Rybak still has the biggest win, with 15.89 percentage of points. Just google it!
amar is joke, won by pity points, rybak was talent
Alexander hardly aged in 9 years #FountainOfYouth
FLAMES OF YOUTH
Rybaks of youth
Till today he still looks the same as he did back then
That song was a shock for all Europe!!! He won with highest score in the history of eurovision..
It was the best eurovision 2009) the most obvious win of all time! and the venue in Moscow was brilliant!
he was so good!
I'm pretty sure he came back this year to relive the experience - he's not here to win this time, he's here to have fun, and to be honest his song and charisma on stage definitely achieves that with me, too.
He is in it to win it for sure, but he has also said that winning twice is almost impossible. But he's not playing around, trust me, lol.
This is my first Eurovision love and I stay true to it
Reader Reader this is what I fear, people voting for the artists not the song, it’s a SONG contest!!!!!
Reader Reader him and molitvaa
Fairytale it's a sweet song and it deserved a win. But this year song it kind of remind me of fairytale it's the same style. So in my opinion it doesn't deserve this year win!
By far the greatest winner of all time my obsession for Eurovision started with this, i still go back and listen to this!
Ahhh...my very first Eurovision memory from when I was a kid, now I'm 20... Oh my god time flies
Ik 6 year old me was lowkey in love with him and 16 year old me congratulates her for having good taste
One of the greatest Eurovision winners. Really fabulous song
Alexander Rybak is insane. Very very insane. If it turns out he can time travel or shapeshift into a beaver, no surprise there.
So many years have passed, and I still have goosebumps when I hear the first notes of this song.
One of the best songs in Eurovision, violin is extremely good, good job. Greetings from Serbia 🇷🇸❤🇳🇴
Daaaaamn!! He's shredding that violin! This performance is so fun and unique.
this is legit my favourite of all time!
2009 best year, this was the year that made me Eurovision fan!!
Yes!! I have always loved this, the violin is typichally Nordic Folklore, his Charisma. All the world liked it. He got 12 points from almost every countries. There was no question. (But my daughter never liked it, sadly, I don't know why?)

Okey, I exaggerated 'the 12 points. But that was the feeling, top 3 from 36 countries. That is a in the top league with Loreen 2012.
You should react to Norway's victory back in 1995 (I think) Secret Garden - Nocturne :) Tnx for all nice comments!
Oh yes, that song was fantastic too. Norway always delivers
worst song EVER!

I voted only for this song. I didn't do before and I will never do again. For me this is the winner song of the contest. ❤️🥇
The dance they performed is based on Halling, a traditional Norwegian folk dance. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Halling_(dance)

Well, with ABBA returning with new music, I think It is onl fair to react to the Winning Entry of the 1974 Eurovision
Not only won it but run with it
Will you do more reactions of Ukraine? :)
