Sounds a little complicated but I suppose when you do it often enough and you get used to it, then it's just a simple (ish) process.

Just like anything else Roy you get to know the regular locks your coming across without need for the book, its useful when you see a lock you havent seen before.

Some riveted gearboxes can be swapped (KFV's for example). Just drill out the old rivets and re-rivet the new gearbox on. I had to do this on a couple of jobs because they discontinued the 45mm backset/20mm faceplate, full mechanism.

be aware that the gold avocet full mech won't match the silver full keep and vice a versa been caught out with that caused a right head ache avocet don't make the gold keep anymore but still supply the mech
