    Three row luxury crossovers are big business in the USA and big luxury "anythings" are all the range in China. Because of this reality and the fact that the original XC90 is turning 14 next year, the new XC90 is the first of Volvo's radical new product portfolio. In this test drive we talk about the XC90, the BMW X5, Acura MDX, the up-coming Audi A7 and the Infiniti QX60 and how they all stack up against Volvo's latest off-road crossover. While we don't go offroad, we do look at every aspect of the XC 90 from the new Sensus Infotainment system to the luxurious interior.

    Volvo really threw down the hammer this time and showed BMW, Audi, Mercedes, and even Land Rover that they aren't screwing around anymore. I would imagine this new XC90 has them all scurrying back to redesign things.

    Great review. I bought the T6 Inscription, with B&W Audio, Air Suspension, Heads-Up Display, 21" Alloys, Apple Car Play, Convenience & Vision Packages - and I couldn't be happier. Everyone who travels in the car is totally blown away by the quality, features, refinement, comfort and technology - especially things like the bird's-eye view 360 degree color camera and TFT interfaces. Attractive, practical and economical; with a sturdy build and protective quality about it, that makes me believe it's a keeper for many years to come.

    Volvo has really gone pretty premium. I applaud them, and as a pertrolhead not interested in SUVs, and an electric car lover as well, I don't say that often. I am now a Volvo fan.

    I saw this vehicle in person today and it is ALL THAT... Seeing this on the video is one thing but it is a true must see in person. Volvo has truly stepped up their game with this model. Finally the XC90 has all the specs that does it justice. Although it is worth the money, I can't see making payments this large on a vehicle. It's either pay cash for it or look at it on the showroom floor.

    • @Prodriver33
      @Prodriver33 9 років тому

      Kyle Stewart the V60 is too small, they just sold more XC70's than V70 so they stopped them in the US, they still offer the V70 in most overseas markets the V70R back! I love that car, but I guess they are doing another big wagon soon.

    Hey Alex great review! I have a question, the amber interior you test drove with, was that a funny looking color in person? Did it seem to get dirty fast? Im on the border with either black or the amber for my order, just wanted your thoughts. Also in this segment, if you could own any vehicle which would you choose? (price not being a factor)

    • @AAutoBuyersGuide
      @AAutoBuyersGuide  9 років тому

      manny freitas I thought it was a pleasant color in person. Right now I'd take the XC90 if I was being rational, the MDX if I was on a budget and the X5 with the twin turbo V8 if money was no object.

    Nice review, Alex.
    Starting with the new XC90, City Safety is now the umbrella name for all of Volvo's auto brake functions. It combines the features of the earlier standard City Safety and the previously optional radar/camera-based system, collision warning with full auto brake with pedestrian and cyclist detection, with a number of enhancements.
    It's works at all speeds from about 4 mph, day and night. 31 mph is the max speed difference at which it can avoid a collision completely. If the speed difference is greater, speed is reduced but the collision will not be avoided.

    Alex, Thanks for your excellent review. I have been on the fence about the air suspension- I fear the long-term maintenance expense- so I was particularly interested to hear your endorsement of it. I'm curious though- did you also have an opportunity to drive the standard spring suspension? If so, in what respect and to what degree was the ride quality lessened?

      Alex on Autos Alex, After listening to your additional TTAC review- it sounded like you have now had a chance to log some miles in the standard suspension- if so, do you still endorse upgrading to the air suspension? was the standard suspension itself satisfactory/pleasing?

    You say all variants of the XC-90 should be commonly available everywhere in the U.S. by October. Any idea how long it will be until we start seeing those interiors in the V or S models? When that new interior arrives, assuming even a smallish bump in fuel economy, I'll be in line for a Volvo wagon.

    The Kia K900 also has a digital speedometer and Rev counter. You guys should do a review of that car it actually suprised me. My first feelings towards the car at first were skeptical because it looks like a Ford Fusion and a Kia Optima had a baby and didn't know what to name it, so they gave it a robot name. But as soon as I sat in this land boat, it looked as if a Mercedes had a baby with NASA. The features available to the driver are all simple and beautifully designed, the back seats are as (if not) more comfortable than the front seats, and you actually feel like the President of the United States or some other important person. I didn't get a chance to drive this 420 hp beast and I wish I could have, but you guys can! Trust me, get rid of all your memories of previous KIAs because this car sets a whole new standard on lower budget luxury sedans.
