The fact that one of the most memorable gags of the entire series, a gag so memorable that cosplays always have to follow through with it, was created because the director legitimately didn't know what to do to make an episode better is absolutely amazing. John Fountain seems like a really great down to earth guy. I'm sure he's a blast to talk to
Thanks to this comment I've searched "doug dimmadome cosplay" on google and have been laughing for minutes on end this is one of my favorite types of cosplay it's so stupid i wonder how people walk around with these xD
Fun fact: Rob Paulsen actually dislikes doing the Mark Chang voice cause it hurts his throat so much, so I'm sure he was ~ thrilled~ that Mark got more screen time as the show goes on
I feel like "It's a Wishful Life" could have been a good episode if it was revealed that the alternate world where Timmy didn't exist was altered by Jorgan as a test, and after he passed, shows how miserable everybody *actually* would be if Timmy didn't exist. I mean, there were hints to it, like AJ graduating high school at 5 years old with a full head of hair, which has nothing to do with Timmy at all.
then they show that Crocker is still as sucessful college teacher on that alternative reality. And timmy goes "oh yeah, i DID mess up his life. oh well, lets go back"

I think it's underappreciated how the soundtracks for these ranking videos always relate to the episode they're under; using Gourmet Race for the episode about food, Marvel songs for episodes about superheores, it's such a neat little touch that gives me something to appreciate with every episode you talk about.
even me had to create a youtube playlist of every music used in Simpsons Ranking I can find and a sheet listing Season 1-13's used soundtrack the editor has a great taste on music honestly
"The Final Episode of Fairly Odd Parents doesn't have any wishes in it." That sounds oddly poetic. If this show ended with Timmy growing up, that would've been a cool idea making it the only one to have no wishes.
@@LWsquidward Totally. But, I don’t know, I feel like if Nickelodeon wanted to end one of their most popular, longest running cartoons, you’d think they would at least order one last episode for the series, and market it as a proper finale to give it some kind of closure, even though we already got Channel Chasers that would’ve served as the perfect conclusion, but still. The fact that they didn’t do this was honestly very disappointing looking back in retrospect.
It's like how the final episodes of _Dexter's Laboratory_ don't have him at the laboratory or even using any inventions. It always spells the death knell of a show when it abandons its entire concept in favour of being completely generic.
@@jonathankent1517 There were still a few episodes in the last two seasons of Dexter’s Lab that involved him being in his laboratory inviting something.
The split moment at 33:24 will forever be cemented as my favorite out-of-context, perfectly-cut scene Mark has done. I can't explain it, it is just feral enjoyment.
For me, the most tragic part of this show's decline was the change in style at the very end. Even at its lowest point, the show's animation was always consistent and great, so it was at least a visual treat even for how simple the visual design is. Seeing the show suddenly change to basic flash puppet animation at the very last second was heartbreaking.
I think the season 10 episodes pre flash actually look quite good, the visuals was basically the only consistently good thing about the season until they switched to flash
Crocker became a lead character in the same way that Plankton did. They were just meant to be an occasional antagonist in their earliest inception. But the writers recognized that they immediately made the series more compelling, and stupidly went all-in on them. Had Plankton never caught on, I could easily see a version of Spongebob where instead he has a small handful of antagonistic characters that pop up from time to time, instead of Plankton popping up every other episode now.
Having the same villain in every episode of a show, rather than villain-of-the-week, is also partly a corporate decision, as they then only need to employ and negotiate with a single VA
If Plankton wasn't as popular, they might have tried experimenting more with characters like Bubble Bass, Flats the Flounder, or even the Tattletale Strangler. Personally, I would have really liked seeing more of Bubble Bass since him and SpongeBob had the most clearly personal, long-standing rivalry with each other, and a food critic makes sense as an antagonist for a chef. Maybe he could've been reintroduced with an episode about him wanting to get revenge against SpongeBob in some way after being publicly shamed by him.
The thing that hurts to me about this show is how many ideas go unused. Chloe unironically could’ve worked really well if the show leaned in more on her parents being so strict. That way, she _actually_ serves as an opposite to Timmy. The entire time, I wanted to see what other kids with their own fairies could’ve added to the show, but the 2 times they do it, it flops. Also, they could’ve made Poof more interesting by having him seeve as a younger brother for Timmy. Like, he grants wishes and get into shenanigans behind Cosmo and Wanda’s back or something. It shocks me how hard they ran out of ideas since there’s so many directions to go in.
That's actually a really good idea! Her parents force her to be a perfect kid and she's miserable and has no childhood or happiness or friends so she's granted faires.
There’s even a few details in the episodes she’s in that point to that, but fall flat due to not being in that context. She’s obsessed with a saccharine show for kids even younger than her? That’s the only show she was allowed to watch growing up because her parents banned everything else. The episode could be an interesting way to reintegrate Timmy’s old friends Chester and especially AJ because he also has strict parents, but he got around parental bans by relying on friends whose parents weren’t as strict. Chloe didn’t because she was always trying to do what her parents wanted and/or didn’t have any friends where she lived before. The conflict could come from Chloe wanting to meet the only (fictional) friends she had growing up but also wanting to catch up on all the media her parents banned her from.
Also Poof being his own character with a personality who deals with his own struggles and looks up to Timmy? That’s something I need. I’ve written several episode synopses exploring that. One of the most interesting things I’ve thought of was Poof being isolated because he lives on earth and can’t interact with the people outside his family or else Timmy will lose them. It’s nearly the same isolation that our Chloe would be going through so having her try to help Poof find good disguises to interact with Timmy’s other friends or other godkids would be another way to simultaneously characterize Chloe and Poof.
Your last point of “They ran out of ideas [despite]… so many directions to go in” is so true. While some are rewrites of episodes I wish were different, or titles with no plot, I’ve got a living document of episode ideas that’s 592 bullet points long. It’s so easy and invigorating to come up with episode plots for this show because it has so much potential.
Looking at the new series, imagine if Timmy wished Poof/Peri into an adult to knock two birds out with one stone. The idea of someone like Chloe trying to better the world but being stuck with a rookie fairy like Peri just writes for itself. Let it be known I never had any issues with Chloe and I actually liked Poof. I’m just spitballing here.
AJ and Chester honestly were vital characters especially because they were one of few characters that didn’t always rag on Timmy and actually brought some reality like that Timmy wasn’t the only ragged on kid in Dimmsdale, not to mention actual friends Timmy’s age gives a lot of potential I believe they wasted towards the last couple seasons
I remember loving every time they showed up, one of my favorite episodes is where AJ and Chester get stuck in the video game and Timmy has to get them out
I always really wanted Chester or AJ to get fairies, 'cause it'd be really fun for a character that Timmy knows already to suddenly be in on the secret
I hope he does a Danny Phantom watch through ranking at some point. It's a really solid show until a lot of writers got fired for season 3 and Butch wrote every episode including the shitty finale
@@littlegreensunflower3547 IS THAT TEH REASON WHY THE FINALE WAS SO WACK? Also makes sense about Valerie and Vlad not being written to wel afer. And I did ship Sam and Danny but even I didn't like how the finale got them together.
@@FeligamiAdrizoeSworaDooplivian oh for real, though!! They majorly fucked Vlad up! It's disappointing. Thankfully, the new comic book that just came out, A Glitch in Time, fixed a lot of things. It's fan made, but it seriously passes so well as canon that it doesn't even matter. It's so good and wraps up all the remaining plot threads amazingly. Including stuff with Clockwork and Dan/Dark Danny and letting Vlad have a go at Dan. It's so good. Definitely recommend if you were disappointed by the final season
2:03:58 she literally put a giant ass butterfly net over the school, which is literally a fairy's weakness. That's the reason Timmy couldn't wish her away. But as soon as they got out, I had no idea why they had to wait and let Crocker deal with her.
it was depressing to see cosmo go from being in love with wanda and regularly flirting with her, to one of the only jokes told about him being that he hates his wife, like some obnoxious boomer. their happy marriage used to be so charming :^(
the way he's all too willing to cheat on her is a little too bitter for me to swallow, i agree :( i guess it was a pattern in shows like this at the time to have this "embittered husband" bullshit trope, it's not funny and it's not groundbreaking
@@lee43795 And Timmy's parents (especially his dad) became just as braindead as Cosmo (Not to mention, they keep overusing Timmy's dad along side Crocker and Foop)
You know what I just realized. One thing that really hurts about this is that Wande didn’t like Wandisimo because he was so self obsessed. Now you have Cosmo being an ass to her so you end up with both her live interests just suck.
It's unfortunate that many of the roles Mary Kay Bergman picked in her final years like South Park, Scooby Doo, and Fairly Oddparents, roles she probably assumed wouldn't last long, lasted for decades and became a lot more successful in their later years. I think even with her short filmography she's one of the greatest voice actors of all time.
Y’know, I think if Chloe was here from the very start of the show, she’d honestly be pretty well liked. Like the idea of two next door neighbors that are polar opposites and can’t stand each other getting infinite magical wishes, but they have to share it between each other sounds really good to me, the episode plots write themselves.
Idk tho, you could do a lot of things with Chloe, Poof, a bit doubtful on, Sparky but the problem is behind the scenes, when all of them were mostly mades for jokes, and only brought up when the plot needs them, and because they needed something to grasp at fleeting viewers
Little fun fact about the Fair Bears episode. Jeff Bennet, the voice of one of the bears, was interviewed on Butch's podcast. The episode was new at the time so when he asked him about it Jeff said. "It was the kind of episode only Butch could write." Wow. He knew it was bad.
Was Jeff the guy who voice the bad Christopher Walkin impression bear? Because if so (after looking at the characters he voiced in the past) that’s a massive downgrade from his other characters like Johnny Bravo
I knew they added Chloe, a perfect character, and I always thought it was stupid. But hearing some of the episode's summaries makes me realize the concept could work. Have her basically redo some of Timmy's wishes, but this time Timmy is wiser and able to help before the problems start. It would show how he's grown over the years, and be a chance to organically repeat some fan favorite episodes with slight twists. Like when Chloe wishes to be older, Timmy is there to tell her the problems with it, but she still wants to try so they argue a little, Timmy gets angry and let's her make the wish, but he still steps in to help her when she's going to lose access to the fairys. The final season could have been good, basically a victory lap showing the highs of the show and bringing back fan favorite characters, ending on a note like Channel Chasers where Timmy shows he's grown and maybe is even going to lose his fairys, but Chloe ends up saying how much Timmy helped her learn how to use the fairys and not end up ruining everything, and so fairy world starts a program where good, experienced kids can help teach kids just getting their fairys what to do, and Timmy is allowed to keep seeing Cosmo and Wanda as he keeps helping Chloe. But that would have taken effort and skill, two things the later seasons are clearly missing.
Still has a bit of a fundamental issue which isn't your fault: why does Chloe even need the fairies? Timmy is a kid who grew up basically bullied by everyone, had the most ignorant parents of all time, and of course a babysitter who abused him. What has Chloe gone through that requires fairies?
@@kreatona4219 In my version, Chloe is basically an opposite of Timmy. He was fairly selfish, but ultimately would end up doing the right thing. So she would want to be nice, but would actually be doing things selfishly (to feel good, etc). She most definitely wouldn't be perfect, and even though I know it would never be approved by executives, she has a single mom that's addicted to drugs. Her "father" is just a rotating cast of guys, and they're squatting in a condemned building. Timmy would discover all of this at the end of the episode introducing her, after their opposite personalities have been fighting the whole time, Chloe says she has to go home, and Timmy finds something she left. He goes to give it to her, discovers just how bad her life is, and the episode ends with them agreeing to forget the past day and restart, reintroducing themselves.
@@kreatona4219 Mark basically suggested it in the video. Just make her parents really neglectful and didnt really care about her. Chloe's positive and perfect appearance is just a front, and deep down, she's super lonely and sad.
@@NatetheNerdy that's really good but the parents thing is definitely not gonna slide in a cartoon on nickelodeon aimed towards kids. I definitely like the absent father idea a lot tho
Tbh I didn’t mind Poof. I mean cosmo and Wanda having a kid felt cute. I always thought when he’d make his run they’d have something like,‘He’s off to handle his first god kid now,’ and we’d get episodes every so often of Timmy interacting with Poof and his kid. Then they made sparky, and I knew it was over for the show. Chloe was just an insult.
I love Cosmo's season 1 voice. It's a perfect combination of the _Oh Yeah! Cartoons_ shorts and the season 2-onwards voice. It's too bad they didn't keep it.
The fact that they just straight up stopped using Sparky with NO explanation was so unexpectedly funny to me EDIT: THEY DID THE SAME THING WITH POOF????
The sad thing is Chloe could have actually worked if they gave her flaws and a reason for having fairies (i.e. "her parents never pay attention to her and because she APPEARS so perfect everyone thinks she's out of their league, so she's lonely and struggles to make actual friends etc). They could have explained the fairy shortage in reference to the Poof special that "no new fairies have been born in thousands of years" and say that that lack of procreation has finally caught up to them with how rapidly populations have grown on Earth in the last hundred years. Also 3:30:42 "a bunch of stuff gets uninvented like the wheel" so good on the art staff to put a TIRE right there next to Timmy, something that wouldn't exist if there was no such thing as a wheel...
I personally hate the idea of Timmy having to share Wanda and Cosmo, for more than a one-off episode. But, I think introducing Chloe as a FOIL Fairy God Child to Timmy seemed like a good idea. If they gave Chloe her own godparent(s) Timmy, Cosmo, and Wanda could have their own "Dinkleberg" relationship where they're secretly jealous of how good they are. But, they could turn it into more of a "frenemies" relationship if they find out about Chloe's personal faults and worries. Since they were fine giving Crocker and Dad spotlight episodes with less Timmy, they could've given Chloe her's. Have her make a bad wish, then have Timmy come in to save the day. It would give Timmy a chance to be the responsible and experienced one and teach someone else a lesson. Like if Chloe wished for something time travel related and messed everything up, Timmy could show up and explain to her how time wishes always mess something up since he's done it multiple times then use his experience to figure out how to help solve the problem.
Okay, but the nonexistent birth rates combined with fairies dying rapid fire in the episode where everyone looked the same genuinely could've been a good explanation for the fairy shortage. Oh well, I guess :/
The "foil to Timmy secretly uses fairies to make their life appear perfect when they're actually lonely and depressed at home" is pretty much Remy Buxaplenty tho. And I'd much rather they just give him a more prominent role over introducing Chloe. I think the writers forgot Remy is still supposed to have Juandissimo though
You basically just described Remi again. Personally I think if they were gonna have Timmy share his fairies, it would've made much more sense for it to be Chester or Tootie, two established characters who've also been shown to be miserable enough to get godparents.
Jorgan: "Fairies are no longer allowed to have babies!" *a fairy godparent shortage happens and kids now have to share fairies* Jorgan: *surprised Pikachu face*
Nah you see the reason they have a fairy shortage is because they give them away in cereal boxes (i mean how else would’ve chloe gotten cosmo and wanda ?)
It’s actually insane how around season 6/7 they just drop the fact that the fairies cause the wacky stuff all together. We start the episode with a already insane world. Like Timmy on a deserted island or Timmys parents on a farm or Crocker at military school. Like, the entire point of the fairies is to create that magic. If the human world is always insane instead of mundane, the show has no reason to exist
It's so annoying how much the last couple of seasons rely on Cosmo and Wanda losing their wands. The older seasons also had times when Timmy could have just undone his wish (wishing away the You-Doo dolls). But the difference is that Timmy _wanted_ to keep the wish because he wanted to believe he was right and it would work out for the better. Then when things got worse and he finally had to admit he'd made a mistake, he learned something from the experience (it's not right to control other people). Meanwhile in the new seasons it's always... "oops! we accidentally dipped our wands in chocolate and roasted them over a campfire!" which isn't funny to begin with and gets exponentially less funny each time they do it
I honestly really like how the cg that occasionally shows up in earlier episodes looks. It might just be nostalgia but I think it makes visuals stand out while still feeling reasonable enough to exist within the artstyle.
The thing that upsets me most about the Schnozmo episode isnt that its bad or that Cosmo having a brother is lame. Its because the ENTIRE REASON they broke Anti-Cosmo and Wanda out for the gland transplant was because Cosmo is an only child, why does this upset me so much
Thank you so much. I’m gonna keep this in mind. Also keep in mind that episode with Cosmo’s so-called brother is from Season 7, where the show truly started to go downhill. Yeah, Seasons 5 and 6 had problems, but not to an extent that most fans claim.
I'm incredibly happy you took the time to talk about Mary. She was so incredibly talented and I really relate super hard to the fear of losing your skill over time. It's so sad that she felt the need to end her own life. Rest in peace.
She’s a perfect example of the fact that suicide is never the answer. If she had just given herself another year she would have seen how much potential and meaning she had in the world. It was literally destined for her but she stopped her story short. She would be on J.K. Rowling levels of female voice actor power levels, but nope, she killed herself over stupid anxiety. Suicide is cowardice and this comes from a person that’s attempted it but couldn’t go through knowing how selfish it is; knowing how much potential I have in this world if I put in the work. I feel super bad for her, but at the same time I don’t.
Honestly this made me realize just how much Fairly Oddparents I watched as a kid. It wasn’t until mid season 7 that some of the episodes started to not looking familiar to me
I’ve always wondered why season 9 of all seasons got the most episodes, also it’s incredible that the tropes Timmy TV made fun of would end up becoming true in the actual show
@@thomasb6214 yeah but when he did South Park he used the the widescreen versions instead of the 4:3 versions, in season 9 onwards. And it’s also just a trend I noticed from all the rankings videos he’s done
Fairly Odd Parents has 172 episodes, Carlos Alazraqui, Crocker's voice actor, is credited for 139 of them. Granted, not ALL of them are crocker, as he also voiced Juandisimo and the mayor, but they were only in a handful of episodes, many of which included Crocker too. Its insane how much Crocker was used in the later half
3:24:11 This was my genuine reaction when Cosmo said "no I'm a fairy" because I knew exactly where the "joke" was about to go but luckily the editor did the reaction for me.
I feel like the flip-flopping between the parents caring and doting one week and being cold, distant, and awful the next, can be seen as how Timmy perceives adults, or even how kids can be with their own parents. You get punished, so you think they don't love you, but then they spend so much time with you you get sick of them. Stuff like that and the fickle childishness nature of children, is perfectly summed up in this flip-flopping.
The issue is characters are not people so we expect more consistency from them. For a show for younger boys I think they'd need to present more obviously that's what's happening if it even was the writers intention to get it across.
The fact that Timmy's dad actually caring for Timmy and apologizing is considered out of character tells you everything you have to know about season 10
i watched every episode of the FairlyOddParents recently, and I have to say it got annoying around season 7 seeing timmys dad outright depise timmy at any time whenever he talked to him. I thought the whole thing with his mom and dad being neglectful towards him was because they were busy having their jobs or busy doing things together getting so caught up in it, that they realize they don’t put enough attention into their child they truly care about. when I got to that episode in season 10 it really did feel out of character, that’s how bad it got lol.
Out of the shows you've marathoned, FOP is probably the one that dropped the quickest and the hardest. Simpsons dropped gradually and only to the point of it being mediocre. Family Guy and Spongebob dropped hard, but then they constantly flip-flopped between being meh and good after a bit. FOP crapped out at season 7 and just never recovered afterwards. It's probably the worst case of seasonal rot I've ever seen.
As someone who stopped watching the show mid-season 6, it seemed like season 7 at least seemed redeemable even if it was worse than all the previous, based off the video. Since season 8 was barely a season, it seemed like seasons 9 and 10 are the serie's outliers. It's only a matter of 1 or 2 seasons, but having the TRULY awful stuff happen that much closer to the end is even more disappointing, in my opinion. It's like Game of Thrones levels of stumbling across the finish line. Except, at least with Game of Thrones they were handicapped, by running out of source material, and managed to finish things. But, Fairly Oddparents reached the end like 4 or 5 times properly and was like "I can keep going!" and did so bad on the last lap they couldn't even properly finish when they were finally done.
@@zanpakutoman4225 And the show switching to downgraded Flash animation only made matters worse. Even the animation got worse in the last couple episodes, something that other seasonal rot shows above didn't do.
Fun Fact: The studio behind the flash animation for the later episodes of season 10 is Elliot Animation, which is the same studio that did all the animation for Total Drama. Good luck trying to unsee it now.
Summary for those not willing to watch 4 hours of Fairly Oddparents: Season 0: Good Season 1: Great Seasons 2-3: Good Season 4: Great Season 5: Good Seasons 6-7: Ok Seasons 8-10: Putrid
In the episode The Gland Plan Wanda says “Cosmo doesn’t have a brother how are we gonna get a donor?” but then seasons later he has that secret agent brother. That bothered me a ton as a kid.
Reminds me of Patrick's Sister Sam in SpongeBob. First he says he doesn't have a sister in Something Smells and we also see this in his family tree in Rule of Dumb, than he has a sister in Big Sister Sam and now ig Sam doesn't exist and his sister's a squid??? like ok ig lol
Yeah because the executives love the Status Quo Is God Trope and are willing to ignore continuity for the sake of said trope in order to prolong a show.
3:58:46 You could argue it’s done intentionally to show how far Timmy how come and grown that after countless adventures and story’s he’s matured to the point where he’s able to handle himself on his own without the need of Cosmos and Wanda just fixing everything for him to show he’s more then ready to handle things on his own when they inevitably leave Which I find as a really interesting and creative way to close the series off to show character growth and Xpress how far Timmy has come as a person. And in that regard it’s a great message However I don’t think this was really intended to be the “final” as the show sorta just kept going till it got canceled enough times that it became permanent
If there's 1 thing that can be said about Mark is that his commitment to go in depth about whatever media property he truely cares about is immensely respectable. A lot of people are definitely going to be annoyed by something like this, but the man clearly puts in the work and effort, and i commend him for it. Hope you continue to do well Mark.
Your tone when going through season 10 is such a freaking mood. I dont even think Chloe was a dead on arrival concept, its just that the writing had become some of the most broken I've ever seen in a professional production, becoming so desperate to get a cheap dumb laugh only to somehow never succeed in that goal.
Funny thing is, a few of the S10 episodes have these ideas that, if combined together, could've made Chloe a very interesting and well-developed lead. Let's see there's: 1. an episode where she gets rashes seemingly from overworking herself. 2. another episode where she refuses herself to have fun during summer, instead pursuing science, causing her to sleep wish. 3. Her parents are revealed to be trying just as hard to always be helpful and "saving the world"-types If I were to write Chloe, her first few minutes would be the same but it becomes apparent by the end of her intro episode that the main reason Chloe is doing all these helpful things all the time is that her parents, while seemingly caring for her, place massive expectations on her and will make sure she follows through on them. Deep down, Chloe despises having to sacrifice any alone time in order to be an eternal help and, since she's constantly working her ass off, she occasionally gets sloppy as the day goes on. Because of the sometimes sloppy work and Chloe never letting her facade down, she eventually becomes more and more hated by her peers (which is why her family had to move before). She would have her own group of fairies who would try to allow her to have her own free time and to develop as a person beyond being a help for others.
@@christianlech1084Wow, you managed to make a better Chloe than the actual Chloe. Though if I wrote her I would still keep the fairy sharing instead of her having her own. But instead of Chloe being perfect and Timmy being a brat, why not have Timmy be more imaginative with his wishes and Chloe be more down to earth with her wishes (like helping a cat from a tree). Two different mindsets clashing with the same set of fairies, kind of like Jimmy and Timmy in a way.
@@zeldagameryt4018 I also had an idea that the fairy sharing could happen but on very different conditions (had the series been more driven on continuity and character development). Instead of what we got, Timmy would've noticed that Chloe is probably on the track to needing fairies but is worried (maybe rightfully) that she will rat out her fairies accidentally so he goes to Fairy World and requests a fairy share (something that is very rare). Thus, C&W become shared with Timmy acting as a pseudo-mentor figure to Chloe.
This is the one I've been hyped to see! FOP went from a childhood favorite of mine to something almost unrecognizable I appreciate all the time and effort you put into these
Channel Chasers is still one of the most memorable specials ever. It felt like it had a healthy amount of nostalgia and a little bit of everything, even for adults who would understand the references more. It even had a heavier tone to it with the concept of escapism and growing up, but not without being very funny.
@@khusnyam5706 That, and not having to deal with someone like Vicky everyday, are very valid reasons why. But keep in mind, Chester is dirt poor, which would definitely make him a reasonable candidate to get a Fairy.
@@roxtechs I will never understand why the staff of the show gave him so much screntime. I never liked him, I never met or seen anyone who liked him. I genuinenly feel as if he was the fav character of either some staff members or some producers
i liked the idea of cosmo and wanda having a baby tbh,, opened up alot of possible dynamics and scenarios,, maybe timmy maturing a bit by taking care of poof as a brother would,, its a shame poof was just bland,,, its kinda sad to see him just disappear
Kudos to this entire retrospective you've done! Really felt like visiting an old favorite from my childhood. Also, 1:58:10 probably the best joke I forgot about this show. I had to stop and facepalm at it.
'The Boy Who Would Be Queen" is one of my favorite episodes in the show. I love how it acknowledges the fact girls/women can also be pressued to only liking things that are stereotypically girly. I feel because of how popular the idea of a tomboy has become some people forget that girls/women can be pressured and builled for liking things that are stereotypical for boys/men.
Looking at this ranking list is really bittersweet. Because while you can revisit episodes that have stood the test of time and helped shaped the legacy of the series, you can also see just how much the Fairly Oddparents has stagnated, and compared to every other long-running cartoon, I think they might of had the sharping decline in quality.
Awesome Video! Edit: I'm glad you took the time to go through the series as a whole. I too thought the shoe fell off by season 4 but I'm glad I was wrong and remembered so many of these episodes I liked being before season 6. There's also only couple handful of episodes I've never seen, mostly from the final season. Please Keep Making Great Content!
I know that all the other shows mark has ranked got bad at some point but fairly odd parents makes me the most depressed. The dip in quality from the first few seasons to season 10 is astounding. Great video
@@michaelg4981 genuinely. It’s weird to think that it’s the same show. Atleast the Simpsons and SpongeBob’s decline was somewhat gradual but fairly oddparents falls off hard after season 6 IMO
Yeah its really unfortunate but I dont think a show dipped in quality faster than mixels though That shit only lasted for 2 years and once the new episodes started being 22 minute long specials they started making very specific mixel tribes that are NOT needed (Eg. Mostly jobs like firefighting or trivial things like ninjas) also having uncountable amounts of animation errors I think i am depressed as you are but after all mixels was really just made to advertise the lego sets I would honestly scream if mark ranked all mixels episodes
I wish you mentioned how Schnozmos design is a reference to an older episode where Timmy wished everybody looked the way they did before, making Cosmo have a huge nose and going "what? This is how I've always looked" neat bit of continuity
The joke about getting rid of Chester and AJ really was foreshadowing in the end wasn't it. I honestly really like Poof and even Foop sometimes. I think if they had focused more on Cosmo and Wanda having their own family instead of adding more and more new characters it could have been nice and maybe even lead to some good 'older brother Timmy' moments.
My main two takeaways for this is that 1.Mark's editor has some amazing taste in music. and 2.Mark's editor needs to use more than the same five reaction images.
That could work actually. Now if only they hadn't given Poof voice impersonations! He has a voice that worked for him after learning to talk. Why did they take that away I'll never understand!
Honestly I can see that working well. Timmy, Cosmo and Wanda are still dragged in to help guide Poof through his first job (and maybe backseat godparent a little), and I'm sure you could squeeze a few seasons worth of hijinks from that. We could also have a dot of continuity by having Chloe be more like a young Timmy, letting him reflect on all the dumb shit he did.

Fairly oddpet and man’s worst friend felt like happy accidents. And tbf it was kinda funny how Anti sparky was odd and sparky is man’s worst friend( u know cuz people hated him)
One thing I noticed that I find weird in episodes like Foul Balled and That’s Life is that Timmy makes wishes that allows other people to win competitions with magic, which implied, at least early on, while Timmy couldn’t wish HIMSELF to a victory in a competition, but he could do so for other people. Yet, in later episodes like Food Fight, he can't wish others to win a competition either.
Wouldn’t it make more sense for Francis to be the godkid of Foop instead of Vickey for that one episode? Since he is also a bully but also a kid and someone that Timmy knows?
The biggest falling off for the series is having more Trixie but evolve her from Popular girl to just a girl who likes nerdy things and changed from love interest to female best friend, showing girls can like boy stuff too.
I have really mixed feelings about The Boy Who Would Be Queen honestly. As... It really showcases everything wrong with the show. The rest of the show really showcases really strict gender roles, and aside from that episode nobody fights them. What if Trixie suddenly is honest about her hobbies, and starts getting bullied, but is accepted into Timmy's group who sees her as a friend? Because there aren't really girls and boys in the series who are just friends, y'know? Chloe is kind of Timmy's friend, but not really? They're more like rivals, sometimes a little friendly, other times just bitter. It's a good episode for its time, as I remember the stricter gender roles in 2001, but yeah...
Part of me feel that some people do push Trixie too much as a character, but I guess it doesn't help my case because I find Tootie more likable (AHH SHIPPING WARS! :P), but the real answer is that both characters could of been treated better and that all the female characters on the show weren't exactly written the best in it's overall lifetime (unless they had very few appearances and therefore 'couldn't be ruined' like the tooth fairy or one off characters).
@@TeruteruBozusamaMaybe they couldn't have Trixie actually change due to how continuity changing kids cartoons weren't super common at the time, FOP has continuity but none of the characters really change (outside of flanderization or if they do than they go back to normal at the end of the episode) so I wonder if they simply weren't allowed any big changes. Butch's continuity driven show, Danny Phantom, I'm pretty sure also had the characters not change? Sorry if I'm wrong though
@@hiddenflare6169 I think the way female characters were written in FOP is why we need female writers, not to say that men can't write women but having female writers makes it so stereotype humor will probably be less common. I think it's something some male writers do because they don't know how to write women, it's why Meg became the punching bag in Family Guy for example
i still think timmy forced to share his fairies with tootie would have been a more interesting idea for a whole season than chloe. Use an underused character rather than making a new one. Because they have many underused characters by that point.
Also, i forgot just how full of heart, impressive animation and actually good humor the first few seasons are. Its easy to remember just the later seasons and think the entire show was just mindless after years of having not watched it, but this vid reminds me of why it became so iconic and popular in the early 2000's :)
I actually don't mind Chloe in concept or design, I'd say having her parents push her too much to be perfect giving her a good reason have fairies and then of course good writing, and I think she wouldn't have been that bad
The fact that one of the most memorable gags from this show, referenced more than any other gag in memes and jokes on the internet, was created just so the director had to do as few revisions as possible.
For some reason, they started showing FOP in Russia mid-way through season five, leaving me and every child around the country confused, why there are so many characters with what seems to be complicated backstories with Timmy, but without any explanation... Like, imagine the bootcamp episode being your introduction to Remi, or "Where is Waldo?" one - for Mark Chang and Trixie... Dark Laser just shows up in one episode... I guess they have a star wars pastiche constantly circling around the planet... Good to know... Of course you would be lost, there is 4.5 seasons of context missing!
Jorgen's scenes are different when I learn he and Cosmo are related. Cosmo is probably the only one in the family who doesn't care about showing emotions
It's funny that you call this the kiddie version of family guy, especially since foop just feels like a stewie griffin clone. He even has a very similar voice and has the same "he's a baby, but evil!" Type joke.
Trixie is one of the best crush characters in a cartoon. Unlike a lot of crush characters she actually felt like a well defined character from the start. I wish Jessica from Rich and Morty could be as well defined as Trixie. It really annoys me when a crush character only purpose to be attractive so the main character will try and date them.
The elements that ruined the show: -New characters that barely served anything to the plots -Flanderization -Random nonscene "humor" -Overused of Timmy's dad, Crocker and Foop -Retconing events from previous episodes -Cosmo and Wanda losing their wands -Humans interacting with the fairies without asking questions -Pointless endings of the characters repiting a bad joke from earlier on a black screen
I'm so glad you gave School's Out: The Musical such high praise. I remember back when it first aired, I hated musicals in tv shows but man ALL of School's Out themes were entertaining and good! Plus Flappy Bob himself is such a relatable character it's a shame he only had that major role in that episode
In a way it's prob a blessing considering what happened to Crocker and other villains later on. Though another episode or at least another cameo of him would have been interst.g
Now seeing that Fairy Baby is about halfway in. It’s nice to see how strong the show was for that amount of time. And struggling for about the same amount later. The duality of FOP.
12:14 that still makes me cry laughing Just I love how long their smiles are and the fact that after seeing adult Timmy their souls are being tourtured on the inside
Honestly it's kind of impressive for how long this show maintained it's quality. Those first 5 seasons are great, some really amazing episodes. And even up till when they introduced Poof the show was still pretty good. I'd say it was around the time they introduced the dog when Fairy Odd Parents went off a cliff and lost any of magic (pun intended) it once had. Adding in Chloe didn't help and the show just lost all it's steam.
I've watched all episodes of Fairly Odd Parents up to season 9 twice when season 10 didn't exist, yet this video really opened my eyes to the fact that I barely remember any episodes from Season 9 at all. For S1-S8 when you talk about an episode I can at least go "I remember watching that" for most if not all of the episodes but for almost all of S9's episodes I just go "Oh yeah they had an episode about that" or "I do not remember this at all".
Of all your ranking videos, this is the one I was the most excited for! The time and editing put into this giant-ranking retrospective is just outstanding, along with the music choices! This video helped remind me why I was a huge fan of Fairly Odd Parents. The storylines were fun, hilarious, and the characters were so memorable in the early seasons. It was super surreal and sad seeing the show’s quality decline in real time once you got to seasons 7-10 (especially 9 and 10).
52:50 this one is always one of my mom's favorite episodes. Just the roach shouting "WORLD DOMI-NATION!" is audio that lives rent free in both of our heads.
I genuinely can remember an aspect of every episode from the first 6 seasons. Honestly forgot how much this show shaped my sense of humour. The good and the bad.
Chloe being the reason the whole town is staying together is like the fairly odd parents version of how bikini bottom just became so dependant on krabby patties. It just make no sense to put such a big dependancy on someone or something like that.

That’s very true
then they show that Crocker is still as sucessful college teacher on that alternative reality. And timmy goes "oh yeah, i DID mess up his life. oh well, lets go back"
That would of been a great way to make such a mean episode much more positive

"The Final Episode of Fairly Odd Parents doesn't have any wishes in it." That sounds oddly poetic. If this show ended with Timmy growing up, that would've been a cool idea making it the only one to have no wishes.
I do think it’s pretty sad, and also anti climatic, that the series ended on an uneventful episode, no different from the rest of the newer ones.
Makes me think the series ended randomly and wasnt planned

Beautiful points. Agreed.
@@TBakerXD Ikr.

I never knew this!!!
That’s because the executives were way too focused on the Status Quo Is God trope. That was what killed the Fairly OddParents by the end.
I remember loving every time they showed up, one of my favorite episodes is where AJ and Chester get stuck in the video game and Timmy has to get them out
Chester is honestly my favorite character, so it sucked that he just never showed up again.
I always really wanted Chester or AJ to get fairies, 'cause it'd be really fun for a character that Timmy knows already to suddenly be in on the secret

Balto 3 was her last voice role.
Same with Christine Cavanaugh
Y’know, I think if Chloe was here from the very start of the show, she’d honestly be pretty well liked. Like the idea of two next door neighbors that are polar opposites and can’t stand each other getting infinite magical wishes, but they have to share it between each other sounds really good to me, the episode plots write themselves.
They honestly could have made her Dinkleburg's daughter or something. Then it would be hilarious as to why she's so perfect.
@@crowqueenampsBut then their whole name pun becomes ineffective. Maybe just be more explicit that Chloe's parents are out of the picture
that could legit be a whole other show, they had to actively TRY to ruin that concept.
Or make her Timmy's cousin who is now living with him. That way they are stuck with each other
Idk tho, you could do a lot of things with Chloe, Poof, a bit doubtful on, Sparky but the problem is behind the scenes, when all of them were mostly mades for jokes, and only brought up when the plot needs them, and because they needed something to grasp at fleeting viewers
I never realized how much world building they packed into the first season alone, its pretty impressive
Butch wrote some Johnny Bravo episodes right?
@@Pwilliams4000 Apparently yes, along with Seth Mcfarlane?
Jeff Bennet could do a better Walken impression before. Look at Dave the Barbarian's Twinkle the Marvel Horse for example.
MR. YELLOW HAT?
Fuck it, make this an Alternate Universe in AO3.

Then they made sparky, and I knew it was over for the show. Chloe was just an insult.

@@gummidon1618that's like telling a kid their hamster went on vacation but it actually died lmao

Also 3:30:42 "a bunch of stuff gets uninvented like the wheel"
so good on the art staff to put a TIRE right there next to Timmy, something that wouldn't exist if there was no such thing as a wheel...
I don't know why they didn't just use Chester tbh.
Something odd is that despite the whole "you have to share your fairies" thing in Season 10, they never address that Timmy has two fairies.

Continuity broken for a washed up celebrity
And it explained why his mom was obsessed with him, being her only child
I'm incredibly happy you took the time to talk about Mary.
She was so incredibly talented and I really relate super hard to the fear of losing your skill over time.
It's so sad that she felt the need to end her own life. Rest in peace.
Her South Park song even got nominated for an OSCAR!
Rest in piece, Mary Kay Bergman
so true
It wasn’t until mid season 7 that some of the episodes started to not looking familiar to me
I’ve always wondered why season 9 of all seasons got the most episodes, also it’s incredible that the tropes Timmy TV made fun of would end up becoming true in the actual show
I guess because for those years Nickelodeon ordered for all its Nicktoons an order of 26 half hours
And I’ve always wondered why season 9 is when mark uses the widescreen versions
One small thing I noticed. Because of how long it is it led to a mistake 3:27:02
@@williambarnett8566 I’m like 90% sure it was because season 9 is when they started airing the show in HD and in widescreen.
"No mom, I don't need college. I wanna follow my dream and become a _clown._ "
The best line in the whole series
3:24:11 This was my genuine reaction when Cosmo said "no I'm a fairy" because I knew exactly where the "joke" was about to go but luckily the editor did the reaction for me.
Bro thats the editor? I thought that was LS mark 😐
@@Tarda911SimplyDad edits his videos.
W take
The issue is characters are not people so we expect more consistency from them.
While Mrs Tunner just disappears
Out of the shows you've marathoned, FOP is probably the one that dropped the quickest and the hardest. Simpsons dropped gradually and only to the point of it being mediocre. Family Guy and Spongebob dropped hard, but then they constantly flip-flopped between being meh and good after a bit.
FOP crapped out at season 7 and just never recovered afterwards. It's probably the worst case of seasonal rot I've ever seen.
Agreed
And then there was south park, which was generaly actualy realy good before it fell off for like 2 seasons, and then became pretty good again
Yiiking out rn.
Fun Fact: The studio behind the flash animation for the later episodes of season 10 is Elliot Animation, which is the same studio that did all the animation for Total Drama. Good luck trying to unsee it now.
OH GOD
It does look like Total Drama’s animation except it doesn’t have the stylistic choppiness.
Summary for those not willing to watch 4 hours of Fairly Oddparents:
Season 0: Good
Season 1: Great
Seasons 2-3: Good
Season 4: Great
Season 5: Good
Seasons 6-7: Ok
Seasons 8-10: Putrid
Season 6 is good too. 🙄
10 is just hell thats all it is
Seasons 7-8 are okay though.

3:58:46 You could argue it’s done intentionally to show how far Timmy how come and grown that after countless adventures and story’s he’s matured to the point where he’s able to handle himself on his own without the need of Cosmos and Wanda just fixing everything for him to show he’s more then ready to handle things on his own when they inevitably leave
Which I find as a really interesting and creative way to close the series off to show character growth and Xpress how far Timmy has come as a person. And in that regard it’s a great message
However I don’t think this was really intended to be the “final” as the show sorta just kept going till it got canceled enough times that it became permanent
Let's see there's:
1. an episode where she gets rashes seemingly from overworking herself.
2. another episode where she refuses herself to have fun during summer, instead pursuing science, causing her to sleep wish.
3. Her parents are revealed to be trying just as hard to always be helpful and "saving the world"-types
If I were to write Chloe, her first few minutes would be the same but it becomes apparent by the end of her intro episode that the main reason Chloe is doing all these helpful things all the time is that her parents, while seemingly caring for her, place massive expectations on her and will make sure she follows through on them.
@@christianlech1084 The part with Timmy noticing Chloe wanting fairies sounds like the episode where he lends them to Tootie for her birthday

Channel Chasers is still one of the most memorable specials ever. It felt like it had a healthy amount of nostalgia and a little bit of everything, even for adults who would understand the references more. It even had a heavier tone to it with the concept of escapism and growing up, but not without being very funny.
1:45:48 According to some sources, the reason Chester doesn’t have godparents is because he takes his misery in stride more than Timmy
I always assumed he have a godparent, but he is like the best in hiding them
@@nickrustyson8124that's honestly a really fun theory
I thought it was because Chester had a loving parent
@@khusnyam5706 That, and not having to deal with someone like Vicky everyday, are very valid reasons why. But keep in mind, Chester is dirt poor, which would definitely make him a reasonable candidate to get a Fairy.

While Poof was never much as a character, given That by season 10 he was around for 8 years, seeing him just disappear was honestly kind of sad.

The later seasons is basically Timmy's Dad and Mr. Crocker show (featuring Timmy, Cosmo, Wanda and Poof).
Yeah, it seems like the writers just gave up when working on the tenth season.
Yeah its really unfortunate but I dont think a show dipped in quality faster than mixels though
That shit only lasted for 2 years and once the new episodes started being 22 minute long specials they started making very specific mixel tribes that are NOT needed (Eg. Mostly jobs like firefighting or trivial things like ninjas) also having uncountable amounts of animation errors
I think i am depressed as you are but after all mixels was really just made to advertise the lego sets
I would honestly scream if mark ranked all mixels episodes
Unnecessary comment but i felt like bringing this to awareness
Does anybody remember that show anyway?
I wish you mentioned how Schnozmos design is a reference to an older episode where Timmy wished everybody looked the way they did before, making Cosmo have a huge nose and going "what? This is how I've always looked" neat bit of continuity
The joke about getting rid of Chester and AJ really was foreshadowing in the end wasn't it. I honestly really like Poof and even Foop sometimes. I think if they had focused more on Cosmo and Wanda having their own family instead of adding more and more new characters it could have been nice and maybe even lead to some good 'older brother Timmy' moments.
My main two takeaways for this is that 1.Mark's editor has some amazing taste in music. and 2.Mark's editor needs to use more than the same five reaction images.
honestly the fact that they're just the same images makes it funnier to me
And I thought Mark just had amazing taste in music/games. But it makes sense, he wasn't even born when most of those games were made
@@Victimxofxprogressdoesn’t mean he couldn’t have played them at one point in his life
Surprised you didn't mention that in the end of Timmy Turnip, it's revealed that Timmy's grandparents are successful franchise restaurant owners.
I mean the episode is still okay, but it was worth a mention.
Wouldn't it have made more sense for season 10 to give Poof to Chloe, instead for them sharing Cosmo and Wanda?
That could work actually. Now if only they hadn't given Poof voice impersonations! He has a voice that worked for him after learning to talk. Why did they take that away I'll never understand!
Honestly I can see that working well. Timmy, Cosmo and Wanda are still dragged in to help guide Poof through his first job (and maybe backseat godparent a little), and I'm sure you could squeeze a few seasons worth of hijinks from that. We could also have a dot of continuity by having Chloe be more like a young Timmy, letting him reflect on all the dumb shit he did.

Wtf you’re so goated for this thank you!!
Fairly oddpet and man’s worst friend felt like happy accidents. And tbf it was kinda funny how Anti sparky was odd and sparky is man’s worst friend( u know cuz people hated him)
@@Prollan06 so sorry, but what are these averages representing?
One thing I noticed that I find weird in episodes like Foul Balled and That’s Life is that Timmy makes wishes that allows other people to win competitions with magic, which implied, at least early on, while Timmy couldn’t wish HIMSELF to a victory in a competition, but he could do so for other people. Yet, in later episodes like Food Fight, he can't wish others to win a competition either.
Wouldn’t it make more sense for Francis to be the godkid of Foop instead of Vickey for that one episode? Since he is also a bully but also a kid and someone that Timmy knows?
Maybe? You have to remember Foop is a baby or very young child. It's weird to think of a baby as pure evil. Even if it's an anti fairy.
But that would require the writers to use one of Timmy's schoolmates, and we all know they stopped existing after season 7
The biggest falling off for the series is having more Trixie but evolve her from Popular girl to just a girl who likes nerdy things and changed from love interest to female best friend, showing girls can like boy stuff too.
Imagine if Chester and AJ didn't get sidelined and Trixie became another regular friend of Timmy's, they could have done a lot with that.
What's I find funny about the joke at 3:10:36 is the fact that sparkies VA is a trans woman. I wonder how she felt about that joke at the time
For some reason LS Mark as a Timmy lookalike is a super appealing design to me, almost makes me believe a reboot of the show would actually work
Can’t wait to hear Marks in-depth opinion on the mpreg episode
i still think timmy forced to share his fairies with tootie would have been a more interesting idea for a whole season than chloe.
Use an underused character rather than making a new one.
Because they have many underused characters by that point.
1:22:14 "Homer, I'm sorry we fought. I just wanted to make you laugh and cry, you see I'm a family guy."
3:41:48
Nobody did the “shrinking and going inside someone’s body” plot better than Futurama. Their episode, Parasites Lost, was excellent
He oughta do Futurama next. Or The Amazing World Of Gumball. Or King Of The Hill.
Or Godzilla The Series
In the new reboot they do an episode based off the worms in that episode
Or Billy and Mandy. Or Moral Orel. Or every Dreamworks movie. Or Drawn Together. Or Danny Phantom.
@@neonespeonclash1481 Or Dexter's Laboratory, even!
Except family guy is trash
Trixie is one of the best crush characters in a cartoon. Unlike a lot of crush characters she actually felt like a well defined character from the start.
I wish Jessica from Rich and Morty could be as well defined as Trixie. It really annoys me when a crush character only purpose to be attractive so the main character will try and date them.
Yeah she actually had a little depth until they went nowhere with it and basically diminished her role.
Seeing Mark's review of the early seasons of FOP reminded me just how much I enjoyed this series before it goes downhill with its quality.
The elements that ruined the show:
-New characters that barely served anything to the plots
-Flanderization
-Random nonscene "humor"
-Overused of Timmy's dad, Crocker and Foop
-Retconing events from previous episodes
-Cosmo and Wanda losing their wands
-Humans interacting with the fairies without asking questions
-Pointless endings of the characters repiting a bad joke from earlier on a black screen
12:14 that still makes me cry laughing
Just I love how long their smiles are and the fact that after seeing adult Timmy their souls are being tourtured on the inside
The show was fine until Season 7, where it became a mixed bag and then by Season 9, everything fell down the drain.
I think one of the biggest crimes of this series was them gradually turning Cosmo's voice into... that.
1:33:12 is the most out of context clip i've ever seen from a TV show but it's so amazing
1:45:59 - I never understood why Tootie wasn’t involved in this episode because she’d be sad of Timmy never existed.
How would she know who he is if he doesn't exist?

there would be a hole in her soul and she would never figure out what's supposed to go there
@@colinm4055She'd have no bright spot in the darkness that is living with Vicky
Please never stop putting Brian Griffin in the ranking video thumbnails, Mark. I live to see that talking dog's smug face everywhere I go lol
I'm so happy that Trixie's transition went well 3:13:11

I genuinely can remember an aspect of every episode from the first 6 seasons. Honestly forgot how much this show shaped my sense of humour. The good and the bad.
Chloe being the reason the whole town is staying together is like the fairly odd parents version of how bikini bottom just became so dependant on krabby patties. It just make no sense to put such a big dependancy on someone or something like that.
