Gotta love how this show low key proved marks point that the fairly oddparents really is one of those premises that can continually work with a bunch of different spin offs/reimaginings (just don’t be like fairly odder or the cursed drake bell movies ☠️)
Exactly. I've never understood why people don't see this as an absolute evergreen idea- they refreshed it with a timeskip, new town and new kid. Change faeries, change culture, heck, even change entire time period, and you could go absolutely nuts.
I don't forgive Fairy Odder for making Vicky having a crush on Mr. Crocker, of all people. (I wish this is a joke, but no, it's real). What is Butch Hartman even thinking?
I think a potential S2 where Jorgen keeps trying to take away Hazel’s fairies because she’s too happy, so she actively sabotages her own life so it’s not that perfect. Would be a good way to make more episodes without completely changing that season finale.
Another way is for the rules to apply to all 3 of them simultaneously. If ANYONE leaks the secret, they erase the memory of all 4. And more importantly, if anyone turns 18, they take Cosmo and Wanda. Which is normally not an issue with kids... but the brother looks 17 at the youngest, of not adult already (didn't watch the show, so I cant tell)
To be fair, that live action sitcom did leave a bad taste in our mouths. But, as it turns out, as long as you have talented people creating it and know what they're doing, you get a solid show.
You think that's bad? Take a look at Megamind: The godly first movie and the accompanying short, then below-average games, then a really horrid sequel (more of a very long, drawn-out pilot) for the equally bad series that is tied to each other. I swear these two had a reverse of fortune the more you look at them.
Fairly Odder deserved better. It was one of the best things out of my childhood and it's sad to see everyone just shit on it just because it's different but when this season does the same thing it's better? Sounds like you all can't handle actually mature live action shows and just want baby cartoons.
Personally, i feel having hazels friends know she has fairies, which could lead to a lot of interesting stories. We've seen enough of everyone meeting timmys fairies and forgetting them by the end, so they obviously want to try something new. Maybe we can see her friends try to use cosmo and wanda to make wishes, or they try to make wishes through hazel, which can lead to hazel questioning if her friends want to be around her for her fairies, or to actually be her friend. Maybe we can see what kind of stuff anthony would ask Hazel to wish for, considering he would be an adult who knows about fairies. Having hazels friends know about fairies seems like it could open the series up to a lot of interesting stories
Yeah, for a while I've been peeved at the "No one must know you have fairies" rule in FOP. It's weird that a Christian (Hartman) created a show where you have to LIE in order to keep your magical companions. Heck, not even Disney or Shrek's fairy godmothers were completely kept a secret. Cinderella's godmother meets Prince Charming in the third movie and is considered part of Cindy's family. And Fiona introduces Fairy Godmother to Shrek and Donkey IMMEDIATELY in Shrek 2.
Exactly!! I feel it’d also help with making stories that don’t feel like repeats of the original series too bc of how different the circumstances are (which I can honestly say most of A New Wish already did for the most part)
Maybe this can play to Season 2. Maybe since Hazel’s no longer miserable Jorgen forces her to lose her memories of Cosmo and Wanda as fairies. Sure, she knows them but instead as ‘totally human’ next door neighbors instead of her fairy godparents. But because she made it so that Winn and Jasmine know about fairies, they now have to figure out how to give Hazel back her memories and by extension Cosmo and Wanda without sabotaging her life (Because y’know, they’re sane enough to not want to ruin her life)
FOP has an actual modern fandom now with tons of content and engagement talking about the characters, continuity, and plot progression. If Nick doesn’t renew, they deserve to fail. I’m in my 30s and I’m more invested in this franchise than I was when I was literally 10 years old.
FOP really is the Sonic of Nick shows because you can have genuinely good content come out right after the most embarrassing thing to ever stain the franchise.
"Jimmy neutron isn't diverse enough to reboot with 2 of the 5 main characters being a hispanic boy and black girl" Loud house with all its 13 white main characters:
Do I care about Fairly Odd Parents? No. Am I going to listen to this Irish guy talk about it for an hour straight? Yes. Why? No more questions, please.
1:13 so let me get this straight you’re telling me we could’ve had a JIMMY NEUTRON REBOOT!!? WITH THE ORIGINAL CAST AND EVERYTHING, but was canceled because of no diversity? BRO WHAT ABOUT LIBBY AND SHEEN
49:24 If this season ended with us seeing Hazel move on from Cosmo and Wanda and ending her arc, it would've been fantastic. When I found out a writer from Infinity Train was working on this show I actually theorized that they would do that. Make it an anthology series where Cosmo and Wanda are used as a framing device and have a new god kid each season. That would've been cool to see, especially since they've had many other god kids before Timmy.
This would've been great & also whatever season they end the series on, have a huge send off to Cosmo, Wanda, Peri & FOP as a whole. Like Hazel, Dev, whoever came after them, & maybe even Timmy having his memory back for a minute to say their goodbyes. Would make a tearful ending & wrap to a series franchise.
If Nickelodeon cancels this show then they might as well cancel The Fairly OddParents until the end of time and never ever make another version of it because if you make a show that people like THEN WHAT'S THE POINT OF CANCELING IT SO MANY TIMES!?!?!?!?!?!?!?
Harvey Beaks died, & that was a well liked show too. Honestly, it seems that Nick is more likely to do a live action Cassagrandes before ever entertaining the idea of giving any other legacy show another chance. That or another Spongebob spin-off.
It’s the Futurama Conundrum where they bring it back and then cancel it, bring it back again, and then cancel it, and then bring it on back *one more time* after everyone got used to it being canceled so that its legacy ends up being less about its story, world and characters - more about *“oh, it’s that franchise that got canceled 5 times!”* so that when they make another version in the future and no one has faith in it they can chuck the franchise for good.
☝️🤓 Um first of all his name is Peri cuz it's short for periwinkle, second of all Peri isn't assigned to Hazel so he wouldn't be helping to grant the wish
Just as a friendly reminder regarding the original; it's apparently canon that Cosmo and Wanda were frozen in time with Timmy for FIFTY YEARS, and were shackled to his eventual selfish antics much longer than the average godchild DESERVES. And with just how well-handled and likable Hazel is, you kinda don’t miss the original main character at all, and it's comforting to know that he finally grew up and moved on. Because I think taking Timmy Turner out of the picture (at least for now) was definitely the right decision to make New Wish stand out.
Those "50 years" were erased at the end of the special, so no, it's not 'canon.' Sick and tired of people hyperfixating on those "50 years", especially people who clearly haven't seen the special themselves and are just going off of what they've heard other people say about it.
@@chlemma I haven't seen the special myself but- how can you erase the time that's already spent? The time was set back 50 years, but how does that change that over 50 has been spent...?
@@lifeisadrag7705I mean they erased everyone’s memories in the new show stands to reason they could essentially just wipe those 50 years from everyone’s minds as punishment for making the wish.
I imagine AJ is obsessed with the Paranormal cuz he's such a smart guy that literally everything is easy, able to make a scientific discovery in his sleep, and the paranormal being something unknown and unexplainable, he ventured to try and be the person who cracks the code and finds the answer to the unexplainable
or heck maybe he rememebrs the weirdness around timmy and suspected something and went off to try and discover what was going on, eventually leading to this you know what would be funny? if he ended up a future antagonist like how Dev and the anti fairies were essentially the main antagonists of season 1
@@Pwilliams4000 but why would he be interested in it? He's a science guy? Again I'm saying he went into this because he wanted a challenge, and I replied to another person telling them how I failed to mention in my theory that the strange things he experienced when around Timmy played a part into this
I mostly agree with you, but I disagree on the final point. I do understand where you're coming from with thinking that having her friends and brother remember she has fairies lessens the stakes as she's not as at risk of losing her fairies over being found out. But in my mind, it opens up story telling possibilities and let's them focus on new stakes outside of the original series scope. In the original series, Da Rules often had to be the stakes because most episodes were self-contained stories, they had an easy and simple to grasp and ever present threat because they didn't want to eatablish a new over-arching threat to every individual episode. A New Wish has demonstrated it is willing to tell more on-going stories and developments, so stakes can be built over a longer period than simply the consequences of being discovered. It also allows more characters to be built up to be involved in Hazel's life going ons currently and tell new types of stories. For example, there can be consequences that her friends remember a wish that Hazel did that negatively affected them as she now has more responsibility because they'll remember what she did and they won't just forget a wish Hazel made and know she was the one responsible behind it (or think she was if she wasn't). Or maybe they'll try to peer pressure her to do something for them knowing she has fairies even if she doesn't want to do it, or try too hard to make them happy with her fairies and burn her out? And maybe some growing resentment between them over that, as a couple examples off the top of my head quickly. Really to see how they handle it, but I think there is very interesting routes they can take in a hypothetical Season 2 with her friends and brother remembering she has fairies, and still have greater stakes, all while further differentiating itself from the original series to tell new types of stories. The set-up that Hazel has friends who remember her wishes and fairies reflects her desire for close friends in her life the series establishes early, but ahe may not have a good grasp on friendship boundaries, and maybe Hazel's good nature to want to include everyone in on her secret life has consequences (which is in line with her character, actually. Well meaning but didn't think through the consequences or think how this might negatively affect all of them). All while not having to rely so much on the "consequences" of the original series, to instead focus elsewhere the original series never did or could, and set new consequences while allowing itself to tackle new sides of what could be done with its premise (instead of the threat of losing her fairies, what if this becomes a threat of her losing her friends? What if she starts disliking who she's becoming? What if it puts more pressure and stress on herself to perform well? Just random examples off the top.), all while not feeling like it's just following the steps the original series took but again.
15:21 “not that I mind or anything, and it is a nice change of pace to have parents who aren’t dismissive and neglectful toward the kid” It also helps that Hazel’s parents HAVE REAL NAMES and are not just called “Hazel’s Mom” or “Hazel’s Dad”. And they are not brain-dead morons.
She wished for her friends and her brother to keep their memories of faires and to be around Cosmo and Wanda because it was her rule free wish that Jorgan allowed since they helped save Fairy World.
I will though say it does open up a lot of new possibilities for season 2. As I think about it, makes sense that A.J and Chester would slowly vanish, because they didn't know about fairies they really couldn't be involved as much. But now as hazel's friends know, they can be involved in all sorts of ways and aid in the adventure as actual helpers in the know, so I say it's for the better. It opens up the world a lot.
I have a theory that Dev didn’t really lose his memory in the finale because he was wearing his sunglasses when Jorgen used the memory wiping magic on him. So Dev probably still knows about fairies and Peri is still technically his godparent.
i like where the theory is going, but i think the godparent contract was probably nullified and Dev had his godparent rights revoked. i don't think Peri will be his godparent anymore, but it'd be cute if they still hung out sometimes, since Dev could really use a friend and Peri recognizes that. I like to think Peri is gonna take a break from godparenting for awhile (especially after the magical backup incident), maybe he'll be on sabbatical for a bit idk XD
welp, the staff said that Season 2 might be possible if New Wish makes a ton of numbers at Netflix, which it's where the show is gonna be streamed there who knows, it might end up getting #1 on Netflix animated shows if everyone decides to watch there but if it gets successful, but Nickelodeon decides to cancel it anyways, I'd say there's gonna be a ton of backlash in their part lol
Why do they have to wait untill November to put the show on Netflix. I'm afraid all of those people who was praising the show online despite only seen clips of it is gonna forget about the show
The fact that the series has turned out this good after so many failed reboots is honestly nothing short of a miracle. Either way It’s refreshing to hear that FOP is finally good again on level.
I think they let Hazel's friends remember magic stuff so they don't end up like Chester and A.J. who didn't know about magic and thus became less important over time.
@@isomericgamer6644I think it would be more empowering for Mother Nature to be black but that’s just me tbh since black mamas love extends beyond there black babies. Even me, a black girl, growing up in a abusive household with an abusive mother and father my friends black mom was always so nice and sweet to me and let me stay over when my parents got into fights or just kicked me out for no reason. My friend was white and adopted. She said that her mom was her best friend in the whole wide world. They also cook really good (better than any white mom from my experience lol) but that’s just me. It just fits…plus the color scheme with brown and green fits better too. In this case of “blackwashing” I feel it fits. Me personally as an artist don’t believe in white washing or black washing as long as it has no racist intent. It isn’t removing representation because the og character is still there and this is also a form of art. Like hatsune miku, she can be anything. Black, white, a toliet literally. And that goes the same for any other fictional character because well…it’s fictional. It doesn’t matter what they are. As long as it isn’t lolicon or aging up a child just for the sake of porn then it’s fine is what I go by c:
to be fair about "hazel getting fairies despite not being miserable like timmy, given the sheer NUMBER of fairies in fairy world and how they HAVE to grant wishes, i think it makes sense that some fairies do just get assigned to kids with fairly mundane issues cause, as noted, not every kid can have a life as miserable as timmy's. I don't see it as a dealbreaker, its just different to what we're used to. it's not like we know which kids have fairies, given that its supposed to be a secret anyway.
Thematically it's lame. The idea of Fairies is that they're compensation for a kid's life being so terrible, and that's much less effective if the issue the kid has is so mild. Why does Hazel get to have fairies but not Tootie?
@@pemanilnoob Because it's set up to be a miserable show, if you don't want to make it miserable don't make it about how miserable the lives of children can be, make something else that's original with a different premise.
Then, the show would get canceled after season 1 and win an Emmy without anyone noticing. Two years later, the show would return as stop-motion clay. And then...
*SPOILERS* The moment Dev goes on a mental breakdown after scratching his dad’s Project H plans… it gave me super chills, that I immediately noticed the Harry Osborn Similarities.
SAMEEEEE!!!!! that moment and the whole episode were great. the colors contrasting with the dark background and the setting really set the more serious tone AND THE VOICE ACTING WAS SO GOOD TOO it really gave away the frustration and sadness and all the emotions they were feeling i could've never imagined a fop reboot would get me so emotional but it was awesome i could talk about it for hours 😭😭
You know that you’re in good hands when Butch Hartman is NOT involved in the writers' room, and instead has the head writer from Infinity Train bringing The Fairly OddParents back with dignity.
I feel like the ending is based off the fact they do not expect an second season, and it seems likely they undo or plan to do something with it if they do get an season 2
My idea for why she got a fairy (the original one before Coswan took her in) was that Cookie is meant to be a quick fairy for kids who don’t need much just some transitional happiness to get through a really hard quick time that’s why she is Like That
Truly don’t get the issue with Hazel being black other than people are racist. She has a good design and personality that works in the show and that’s all I care about, that’s all anyone should really care about over a main character
a) Black people are not a homogenized "race", neither any other "race" white,"latino",asian. b) Trans are just cross-dressers with extra steps, and dont have DSD's nor do they understand the subject... they only care about the ideology and getting access to yng meat. And the + is P&Z's or madeup crap.
hazel's secret being known to others does have potential. it means her friends and brother have more opportunity to be involved in things without contriving some way to ensure they don't know about the magical shit happening, and it can add stakes when her friends' knowledge of things could lead to things happening like using that knowledge for themselves in a moment of weakness/selfishness/thoughtlessness as well as the possibility of them accidentally telling someone or the threat of that happening. It's not a deal breaker regardless, especially since its a further differential from timmy who, you know, COULDN'T let his friends know.
My take on that ending is that they wanted to open the doors up a bit with what they can hopefully do with her friends and brother so they don’t eventually end up like Chester and AJ where they were a bit too separated from the magic side of FOP to be anything more than a little irrelevant more often than not

tbh i don't really see how this is a punishment for Dev when he can't even remember *what* he did. i would've liked it better if he kept his memories while being unable to ever make wishes again.
There’s already a few theories that support the idea he didn’t forget: If Hazel still considers him a friend, he’d be included in her rule free wish, or we can go with the sunglasses theory (every instance of memory wipe in both the original series and ANW we see that sunglasses/shades stop the wipe from working, and Dev is the only character aside from Jorgen we see get hit with the wipe while wearing those)
You knooow it’s totally possible that he remembered almost immediately cause Hazel still considered him a friend when he made her wish. And him still remembered for whatever reason is backed up by the show runner specifically calling him losing Peri him “doing penance” on Twitter 👀.
I think people misinterpret what Hazel's brother means to her and why she needed fairies, its not her not having her brother was the issue, but that she heavily relied on him growing up, he was the only person Hazel was close with, even in the photos we see that Hazel's current clothes used to be his brothers', but when he went to collage, he had nobody to connect with, having her brother back wouldn't solve this issue, what she need is to learn to stand on her own, because even if his brother return, he is still going to go back to collage, living Hazel alone ones again. Cosmo and Wanda are there to help her mature in many ways, and even outside the topic of her brother and she wanting friends, she still got a lot to learn and Cosmo and Wanda help her with that. Like how in the episode of Jasmine's fear, she got a friend but she brushed off her fears, if Cosmo and Wanda left when Hazel and Jasmine got friends, chances are that they relationship might have gotten bad, Cosmo and Wanda are there to help Hazel become a better person in the long term, not just bandage her current needs. Dev is also another example, he became friends with him thanks to Cosmo and Wanda, if that didn't happen, Dev would probably still be bullying her for longer, and in the episode with her mother there is a chance that Hazel might have gotten resentful to her mother not having time for her if Cosmo and Wanda were not there to grand her the wish to work with her mom and see that her mother do really love her. Its a lot of the little things that Cosmo and Wanda help her out to become a better person, even if she is already pretty mature and reasonable for her age, she still has a lot to learn as she is just a child, literally stated in an episode, if anything Cosmo and Wanda has been succeeding in avoiding Hazel from becoming an emotionally resentful teenager.
One small detail I like with New Wish is how ALL the characters here have shoes (like in the original, do Timmy, Cosmo, Wanda, Crocker, etc. even wear shoes or are they just long socks that look like pants?) and a consistent eye style (pupils in their eyes, even the humans). Which further proves how worthless that one fan theory is.
Yeah, I never liked that theory about how Veronica is a fairy because she has pupils. It also bugged me that in the original series, the only characters that had actual shoes were AJ, Chip Skylark, etc
Something I noticed that took me a couple of episodes was, well, The Fairly OddParents aren’t IN anything anymore. Yes, Character in Episode title cards probably feel like an archaic format, but removing it made the way the title cards are composed completely different
A counterpoint for your take on the finale's ending (and Hazel's friends finding out about her having Fairy Godparents in general). The "village of idiots" trope is not used NEARLY as heavily as it was in the old show. To be clear, the main thing that kept, for example, Timmy's parents from finding out on their own that he had fairies was the simple fact that they were not smart enough to recognize the weird magical stuff around them. Chester and AJ were not dumb at all, but they pretty much rolled with things while not having the sense to ask themselves "wait, why is this weird thing happening?" when they could. In fact, a lot of the side characters (based on my limited memory of a show I watched as a youngin') had this same problem, which was not a bad thing for the show. It knew what it needed to be and did a fine job at being itself (later seasons aside). As for Crocker, he was better able to recognize the magical stuff that was happening and investigate them than most, but his lunacy and obsession with fairies hilariously held him back. By contrast, A New Wish doesn't treat the people around Hazel as unobservant folks, let alone idiots. That's the key part here: they are observant! Well, most of them are, but we'll get to that in a moment. We see examples of characters being observant with Dev figuring out Hazel's past magical antics as well as her friends and brother not being all that weirded out by the big reveal that she has godparents. They remembered what they had previously gone through and, based what they knew, that detail made sense to them. The reveal itself doesn't come off as a big deal because of that, true enough. But, for that episode, it couldn't really be that due to how the show was written, which I get. To be fair, Hazel parents roll with the magical oddities too while having their own stuff to focus on (The father's paranormal hobby and the mother's self-help hustle). But, this works pretty well for their characters without making them come off as entirely stupid, as they have good reasons for not seeing the woods for the trees in regards to magic. Hazel's friends don't have such big things to focus on other than school, so they got space enough in their heads to put two and two together to make four instead of fish. I do get it though: it would have great to have the reveal be a big deal ala the old show and it would be nice to let Da Rules come into play more often. I do wonder about Dev though: Jorgen was wearing sunglasses when he used his memory wiping magic on him. So was Dev... Hmmmmm... Eh, I might just be overthinking it. Magic is weird, after all.
I assumed the series was on Paramount+. I subscribed to watch it and was surprised to see it wasn’t on there yet. Ended up watching the Knuckles series and rewatching Danny Phantom.
Great review! Though I wanna say that Mother Nature did appear in a couple of episodes of the original series. Season 7’s “Balance of Flour” and Season 10’s “Fairy Con”. Also the subtle jab you made at Kyle Carozza was pretty funny.
I can't help but be reminded of an interview where Danny Antonucci points out that a lot of cartoon shows are really just writers shows because the writers are handling animation. The fact that Hazel's voice actress is one of the writers points to A New Wish being an example of what he was talking about.
I have a theory that the Cupid in the New Series was the Original Cupid’s son. Keep in mind, Cosmo & Wanda had a 10,000 year vacation, and there’s always a new Fairy born 10,000 years with the last one being Poof. So the OG Cupid might’ve given birth to his son, that being of course the Cupid in A New Wish. I feel very terrified right now.
It's funny to complain that the main character of Fairly OddParents is a black girl. Isn't the main character of Fairly OddParents supposed to be a kid that no one understands?
47:19 that is unfortunately an unfortunate (but essential) part of expanding a world so much. Eventually you have to break universe rules to keep expanding. Atleast it isn't a COMPLETE dismissal of a preestablished rule
I think the real issue with the 2d art and why the original art style is so hard to replicate is the fact that nobody has seemed to really clock the 50s to late 60s influence. Most of the female hairstyles in the original, the mod style clothing of the popular girls, the typical nuclear family, etc. Along with the sharp shape language seen in plenty of old atomic aesthetic illustrations.
Really good insight and great in depth analysis of the show. I agree that's it's a lot better than a lot of us expected it to be going in. The only small thing I'll thing I'll disagree with is acting like the ending of season 1 can ruin the potential of the show going forward like the Timeless Child did in Doctor Who. Like you said, there are a lot of things they can flesh out with Hazel herself in a second season, and maybe they can expand on the ramifications of her friends/ brother knowing they have fairies. Maybe they can do a more introspective deep dive on why she made the impulsive decision to wish they all knew the secret. As long as they don't hand wave it by ignoring the impact it could have or immediately back track the decision by making them all forget it again early on, I think the idea has more potential than you're giving it credit for. I kinda see it the same way as Harper finding out Alex was a Wizard in Wizards of Waverly Place. If it allows them all to be more integral parts of the cast/ develops them further, I don't see it being a problem.
This being the first animated series I worked in as a Rigger (Skeletons for animation) I’m just so relieved it has had very positive reception ❤🎉 I’m looking forward for season 2!
13:47 Yeak I'm so sick of this claims that Timmy was always this horrible person when it's clearly shown (specifically in the early seasons) that deep down he's a good kid.
as someone who equally loves the og and anw (a new wish) i agree alot with your retrospective! i think you explain your thoughts in a way that could be understanding even if you may disagree, you're always able to see that other side of the coin. its interesting to see your view points, especially knowing that you have a big connection with FOP. I genuinely really think you're well spoken here, and trust me despite my love for ANW and the urge to get a bit defensive i could sit and understand where you're coming from. Alot I agree with honestly I still want to hold on with that hope of season 2 however, coping yes but-- FOP A New Wish is great, and i am so glad to see many more new people enjoy the new series.
It always annoyed me whenever Wanda had sympathy for Vicky, especially that episode where Timmy turned her into a kid. Seriously? She's tormented your godkid for half his life, and the one time she gets a taste of her own medicine, you feel bad for her? It's Vicky!
Maybe fairies will generally sympathize with children, regardless of what they are (nice or jerks), so even though Wanda knows what Vicky is like, the younger, childish version of her does not allow for negative feelings, only compassion
I had depression for moving to a new city and a new school, some people think hazel problem ain’t big enough but it is. I felt related to her and realize my own problem.
I agree wholeheartedly. Your struggles do not have to be on full display to be valid. People judge me all the time on what I have problems with, but just cause they think it’s ‘stupid’ doesn’t make me any less miserable!
this is a nitpick but in the pudding episode hazel *does* unwish the pudding and *thats* what causes all the people to become pudding zombies, so that’s why she couldn’t just unwish it
Yeah it’s explicitly the withdrawal side-effects (possibly due to them being magically created? We know magical food does Weird Shit tm to humans thanks to the Potato Hazel episode) making them zombies, which them gets cured after the recipe gets changed
13:42 I agree that I'm tired of people saying Timmy was a completely irredeemable character since the golden age, like he wasn't perfect but he was a good kid at heart. Its just that he too, like Cosmo and Wanda, had gone through flanderization. Like literally Classic Timmy can breath and people online will make up some bullcrap reason for why he's terrible for breathing.
Not giving this show a season 2 would be one of the biggest Nickelodeon blunders in history and that's saying something. Hopefully ones it hits Netflix it does well and they'll at least consider a second season. Fingers crossed🤞
As much as I liked “A New Wish” I still miss the meanspirited tone that was present in the original show. It really solidified why Timmy and a lot of the other god kids received fairy godparents to begin with.
Yes but it also reason why it got tiresome too. Mean spirited can take you so far till you feel like you want to bash your head against a desk. Especially cosmo and wanda relationship where you felt they were a happy couple that love each other and support another while also having some disagreements vs later season where they dont really show any love and feel like they are together because of timmy and peri being a baby at the time and would broken up permanently
People these days can't handle meanspirited shows anymore, I hear people complaining about Lincoln Loud "torture" episodes meanwhile other cartoons like Courage, he used to be punched kicked, called stupid almost every episode, dealing with all mosters, disliked by Eustice (there is even an episode whe he tries to kill him).
@@purple6012 I don't think people can't handle meanspirited shows, often the people who talk about disliking them grew up with shows you mentioned like Courage, Jonny Bravo, Edd Ed and Eddy, Catdog and so on and enjoyed them, me being one of them. The difference with Courage and supposed "Torture x character" episodes is that Eustace would get beaten with a rolling pin from Muriel after he does something awful to Courage, and or we'd see Eustace get harmed as karma for his actions toward Courage. That's why people don't have issues with early Spongebob's Squidward getting harmed after her does something to warrant getting hurt. Seeing the karma for these characters is what made their awful actions not less mean-spirited.
I would love a LE angle on Jorgen

Genuinely good premise
That would genuinely break my heart
Another way is for the rules to apply to all 3 of them simultaneously. If ANYONE leaks the secret, they erase the memory of all 4. And more importantly, if anyone turns 18, they take Cosmo and Wanda. Which is normally not an issue with kids... but the brother looks 17 at the youngest, of not adult already (didn't watch the show, so I cant tell)
Remember when everyone thought that this reboot was gonna fail? Those were the days, I’m glad it didn’t though.
To be fair, that live action sitcom did leave a bad taste in our mouths. But, as it turns out, as long as you have talented people creating it and know what they're doing, you get a solid show.
You should thank Peri for getting the show to be popular.

@@thelibertyking6735you know what’s worse than a non canon sequel? We could have had a jimmy neutron reboot
But because she made it so that Winn and Jasmine know about fairies, they now have to figure out how to give Hazel back her memories and by extension Cosmo and Wanda without sabotaging her life (Because y’know, they’re sane enough to not want to ruin her life)
Yeah it could be more interesting
FOP has an actual modern fandom now with tons of content and engagement talking about the characters, continuity, and plot progression. If Nick doesn’t renew, they deserve to fail. I’m in my 30s and I’m more invested in this franchise than I was when I was literally 10 years old.

That would’ve been very cool.
This is the only show Nickelodeon has that everyone legitimately loves. If this show is canceled, that's it. It would be Harvey Beaks all over again.
Harvey Beaks died, & that was a well liked show too. Honestly, it seems that Nick is more likely to do a live action Cassagrandes before ever entertaining the idea of giving any other legacy show another chance. That or another Spongebob spin-off.
Because profittttttttt
It’s the Futurama Conundrum where they bring it back and then cancel it, bring it back again, and then cancel it, and then bring it on back *one more time* after everyone got used to it being canceled so that its legacy ends up being less about its story, world and characters - more about *“oh, it’s that franchise that got canceled 5 times!”* so that when they make another version in the future and no one has faith in it they can chuck the franchise for good.
Say what you will about Butch Hartman, there’s at least a certain amount of truth to what he said about the show’s many cancellations and revivals😶

And it also makes sense why they are more of a loving couple during A New Wish
Those "50 years" were erased at the end of the special, so no, it's not 'canon.' Sick and tired of people hyperfixating on those "50 years", especially people who clearly haven't seen the special themselves and are just going off of what they've heard other people say about it.

15:21 “not that I mind or anything, and it is a nice change of pace to have parents who aren’t dismissive and neglectful toward the kid”
It also helps that Hazel’s parents HAVE REAL NAMES and are not just called “Hazel’s Mom” or “Hazel’s Dad”. And they are not brain-dead morons.
The thing that felt rushed for me was the way Hazels friends just knew about Cosmo and Wanda just kinda feels ya know, against derules?
True but I think it was an odd push in fear that they will be cancelled in one season so if that is case make sense to try to close it in one season
And if got more seasons then they add more or even backpedaled on some stuff
She wished for her friends and her brother to keep their memories of faires and to be around Cosmo and Wanda because it was her rule free wish that Jorgan allowed since they helped save Fairy World.
I will though say it does open up a lot of new possibilities for season 2.
As I think about it, makes sense that A.J and Chester would slowly vanish, because they didn't know about fairies they really couldn't be involved as much.
But now as hazel's friends know, they can be involved in all sorts of ways and aid in the adventure as actual helpers in the know, so I say it's for the better. It opens up the world a lot.
I thought the implications was they pieced it together after Dev revealed fairies were real, like a "Oh now all that Hazel stuff makes sense" thing
Plus isn't Dev Hazel's friend?

hazel's secret being known to others does have potential. it means her friends and brother have more opportunity to be involved in things without contriving some way to ensure they don't know about the magical shit happening, and it can add stakes when her friends' knowledge of things could lead to things happening like using that knowledge for themselves in a moment of weakness/selfishness/thoughtlessness as well as the possibility of them accidentally telling someone or the threat of that happening.

41:46 I'm pretty sure someone who works on the show confirmed on Twitter that A New Wish's Cupid is a brand new character

Yeah, no more "The Fairly OddParents in: [insert title here]"
A counterpoint for your take on the finale's ending (and Hazel's friends finding out about her having Fairy Godparents in general).
Paramount has a streaming service, but refuses to use it
While I haven’t seen it, it seems like they finally remembered that Wanda and Cosmo were meant to be married
I assumed the series was on Paramount+. I subscribed to watch it and was surprised to see it wasn’t on there yet. Ended up watching the Knuckles series and rewatching Danny Phantom.
Just imagine the Jimmy Neutron reboot gets the animated treatment like how FOP reboot 2 had the 3D treatment
I've seen people either headcannon New Wish's Cupid as either OG Cupid and Juandissimo's son or as OG Cupid's sibling
It's been 10k years for C&W, it's been around 20/30 years for everyone else
Oh maybe he's different because the concept of love has changed over the years
If the new wish returns I want Dev to get a second chance for fairies. He needs Cosmo and Wanda, and no other fairies.
It's funny to complain that the main character of Fairly OddParents is a black girl. Isn't the main character of Fairly OddParents supposed to be a kid that no one understands?
48:50 It makes way less sense for Hazel to have Fairies now than before. She's basically has everything she's wanted after the finale.
47:19 that is unfortunately an unfortunate (but essential) part of expanding a world so much. Eventually you have to break universe rules to keep expanding. Atleast it isn't a COMPLETE dismissal of a preestablished rule
She needs Fairies because she struggles with making friends and not just because she’s miserable. May I remind you that she tried to run from home.
Wow what a great sequel series hopefully someone doesn't make a racist review of the show ( cough cough Ask air cough)
One of the Few reboots that works better than the original like Ducktales 2017
I wish we got more of a "Cosmo & Wanda" Show, where there getting a new kid every season now and then like in Dr. Who.
When they make a sequel to your childhood and dont fuck it up completely?
I actually like that hazel was gonna have her own fairy godparent
Her problems may be internal but they are still problems
I think the real issue with the 2d art and why the original art style is so hard to replicate is the fact that nobody has seemed to really clock the 50s to late 60s influence. Most of the female hairstyles in the original, the mod style clothing of the popular girls, the typical nuclear family, etc. Along with the sharp shape language seen in plenty of old atomic aesthetic illustrations.
It’s just so good to see the whole internet like the fairly oddparents again
(“Timmy is Black???” person aside)
At this point i did not expect anything decent to come out of new The Fairly OddParents stuff, but i do like this one. And i love the style
The production team basically looked at what they created with Fairly Odder, and asked: What if we didn't do that?
The most distracting thing about Hazel is her Undertale shirt.
NO NO NO SHUT YOUR MOUTH I CAN'T UNSEE IT NOW WHAT HAVE YOU DONE😂😂
Everyone will meme about her having Frisk outfit
@@drakul3467 Everyone already meme'd it
So what I'm getting is that it's a decent show but isn't unhinged enough to be better.
If it allows them all to be more integral parts of the cast/ develops them further, I don't see it being a problem.
thank you marcus for this wonderful review
1:11 I fell to my knees.
Me too
This being the first animated series I worked in as a Rigger (Skeletons for animation) I’m just so relieved it has had very positive reception ❤🎉
I’m looking forward for season 2!
Alot I agree with honestly
I still want to hold on with that hope of season 2 however, coping yes but-- FOP A New Wish is great, and i am so glad to see many more new people enjoy the new series.
This reboot was surprisingly good 9/10 love the style
I liked that hazel's friends and brother just knew she had fairies bc they actually are paying attention to her actions
4:25 what the dog doing?
20:30 wouldn't be LSMark without it. Love you Mark, never change.
Wow I was just looking for a video to watch then I refreshed UA-cam and this popped up
Feel like Dev losing his fairies also totally destroys the stakes for a Season 2
this is a nitpick but in the pudding episode hazel *does* unwish the pudding and *thats* what causes all the people to become pudding zombies, so that’s why she couldn’t just unwish it
Yeah it’s explicitly the withdrawal side-effects (possibly due to them being magically created?
Nick accidentally hired very talented people to make this reboot
What is mean-spirited is seeing Timmy get told everyone's better off with him not existing just because he wanted a thank you from his loved ones for doing nice things. What is mean-spirited is have Squidward show everyone Spongebob's diary without any consequences for his actions and or any good reason within the episode for Spongebob to be mocked by everybody.
I think courage is a bad example of that because don’t you remember how in almost every episode that eustace got karma or even died a few times
@@Mick-wick yea and he had beatuiful episode where he tried to be normal and perfect but learn it is ok to not be perfect and normal and that we are all unique and shouldn't shame and mock people who aren't perfect.
11:37 The fact people got upset enough to get him to say something just makes him calling Lois a bitch even funnier now. Bitch is such a mild curse word or thing to be called.
Unrelated Kevin existing is funny simply knowing a mini-Crocker exists. Its stupid as hell but its also really funny to me.
like they didn't even TRY with that design, they literally jsut made a tiny crocker and called it a day
@@sarafontanini7051 I wont lie, its my own sensibilities that make me go "thats really fuckin funny" looking at portable Crocker.
It’s pretty nice seeing characters from the original series and seeing what they’ve been doing over these years.🐱
