    I'm curious why you didn't back your trailer down the ramp and launch you kayak. Seems easier. Thanks for the vid

      For me it is actually easier especially at busy landings. No need to tie up the boat while parking the car. I can also launch away from the main ramp at times. I did back it in when I first got my Pro Angler 14 and the kayak hit the Hobie Cradle just right and cracked it. Thanks for your comment!

    Hey man! Great video. I am in the process of getting a PA14 and trying to rerig my trailer for it. How exactly did you bolt those hobie cradles to those bunk boards? I have a similar trailer. Thanks!

    I have a really fun story about the scupper holes and using a non Hobie wheel set to launch his kayak.
    Oh my gosh, I start laughing about it so hard, that is why there is no video about it yet, I have to be able to tell the story with out laughing so hard that I people can understand me. hahaha. One day, it will be posted though.
    Amen, to the life jacket. I have a story about that as well and plan a video on it to post sometime this month I will get that one uploaded.
    My dad always for got to pull his drive, on that same day as the first story I mentioned his dismount was epic as well. That's a whole other funny story that I will share one day as well hahahah. good stuff,. Curious why you dont just use the boat launch by backing in the trailer? Never mind you just said why, makes sense.
    Does the hobby drive float?
    Custom rods you made, how fun is that, I have made my own bows for archery hunting, I have never made a rod, sounds like some more fun to be had.
    Very detailed and thought out video sir.
    Have a blessed week sir.

    Thanks, this video is a big help. Good info on things to watch for when securing the kayak to the trailer. I’m currently setting up my small 42” wide McClain PT-15-12 650 LB capacity trailer for accepting a Hobie PA in a similar manner. The trailer is long so my plan is to situate the stern at a position even with the trailer tail lights. Currently my thoughts were to obtain a kayak kit from McClain that would support the Hobie cradle sets in a more forward position to take advantage of the trailer’s 16-1/2 foot OAL and place narrow PVC tubing toward the rear and possible the middle of the trailer to help support the kayak during transports, unloading, loading and storage.

    • @FisherMN
      @FisherMN  3 роки тому

      Sounds like a good plan. if you already have the cradle set great, its nice to have an exact fit, otherwise there are quite a few videos that show how to use PVC to accomplish the same support(Hobie cradles are so expensive!). I like the trailer I have because the wheels are decent sized and I don't think twice about hauling it at 70 on a highway. Thanks for the comment and I hope your set up works well for you!

      This is a video I was interested in involving PVC and High strength zip ties when I was considering an alternative to the cradles ua-cam.com/video/rEc5_pf9VIA/v-deo.html My concern was durability.

    Good video. I liked the loading method of not getting wet. Does that work in reverse? I noticed you didn't try it that way.

      I am sure it could, getting the wheels out may be an issue...if I am understanding your question correctly.

      @@FisherMN I've seen a couple of other videos where people attach elastic to the carts. I reckon something like that may work. I'll have to play around with it myself.

    Got a herniated disk with good days and bad. Looking for water launch and this trailer looks feasible for that method.

    • @FisherMN
      @FisherMN  2 роки тому +1

      Definitely. If you have cradles just be careful of the kayak hitting them. My first set was damaged when I tried to float my Hobie on. I think I hit it just right and the back cradle cracked(still lasted 4 more years).

    Love your videos! I purchased my first fishing kayak this fall- a Hobie PA 12 off FB marketplace. I can't wait to get it out on the water! I am currently shopping for trailers. If I can't find a good used one, I am between the Karavan trailer from Hi Tempo (I live in MN as well) or the Malone Microsport- which I would order online. I was wondering if you still like your trailer purchase- happy with it- any pros or cons? Would you suggest purchasing one from the dealer as you did even though it is more expensive than ordering online? Thank you for sharing your knowledge.

      Congrats on the kayak! I have been happy with my trailer. No issues, I just replaced the wheels last year after 5 years. Nice to have the no maintenance bearings, however I do not think Hi Tempo carries the same model anymore (not sure). I am not super handy, and it was helpful for me to buy my trailer from the dealer assembled and ready to go. Maybe I'll see you on the water this summer!

    Nicely done video - very helpful for me to visualize the setup.
    I am about to purchase nearly the exact same setup in the next few months ( i.e. the Karavan AL single PWC trailer, with a Hobie PA14 360). Trying to clear an area in my garage/workshop where I can store the boat and trailer together, and am VERY tight on space. I have all the dimensions and spec sheets for both parts of the rig, but the part that is hard to envision, without the rig in front of you, is how the boat sits on the trailer and where the pinch points will be in that.
    Since you have nearly the same exact setup perhaps you would be kind enough to help me with some dimensions?
    Big Questions I have -
    1) What is the max vertical dimension of the Yak loaded on the trailer? (Looks like this is somewhere along the H Bars?)
    2) How much does the boat hang off the back end of the trailer, and what is the total length from stern of boat to tip of tongue ?
    3) how much gap between the wheels and the wide point of boat when all is put together?
    4) could the crossbars and cradles be mounted lower in the trailer if need be?
    Thank you in advance for your help -
    Best Regards - Bob

      Hey Bob, sorry for the delayed response...hope I am not too late to help. I have been away from the channel for a bit, my dad passed away this summer. If still needed, here are the measurements you requested. 1- highest point is actually the rudder handle(they added a spacer with my 2020 hull) and it is 45in from floor to top of handle. 2- my boat hangs off the back of the trailer 45in to the tip of the back "handle". 3- The total length from stern to tip of trailer tongue is 17ft 1in. When I bought my trailer I had the tongue length cut down due to space by either 2 or 3 feet, I cannot remember exactly. 4- my cradles are not centered, but if the were the distance between boat at its widest point and outside wheel is 13 in on each side. 5- my crossbars are mounted about 5in above the trailer, maybe you could save a few inches and mount them directly to the trailer? Good luck, let me know how your system ends up working out. Again, sorry for the delay.

      @@FisherMN So sorry for your loss - your help is still greatly appreciated - especially during what has to be a difficult season. I am extremely grateful for you taking the time to help me out. Excellent info! Thank you for taking the time to share all those measurements with me. I will post up my rigging and trailer setup after I purchase the Kayak - realistically sometime in early 2023

    This winter I need to build some kind of trailer. Loading and unloading 100lbs of old town in the back of my truck wears on a guy. Im never envious of boat owners until I see them cruz up on their trailer, throw a strap over it and drive off in 2 minutes.

    • @FisherMN
      @FisherMN  4 роки тому +1

      If you do end up putting a trailer together and Old Town has a tri hull like the Hobie Pro Angler, here is a video that had an interesting cradle solution using PVC and heavy duty zip ties that I considered for my kayak. ua-cam.com/video/rEc5_pf9VIA/v-deo.html another consideration is to get decent sized tires especially if you are driving longer distances to your fishing spots. Thanks for watching!

    How long is your trailer from hitch to tail lights ? Thanks

    • @FisherMN
      @FisherMN  3 роки тому

      It is 14 feet. I had the original trailer trimmed down a couple of feet due to where I was storing it at the time. I believe the original trailer was 16ft from tongue to trailer lights.
