Thank you for this demonstration. I do have one suggestion -- I would have found the examples of the stitches more useful if they had been in a colour different than the fabric. I really couldn't see the differences with the white stitches on white fabric. I know that a person generally does use the same colour thread as fabric for ordinary use, but for a demonstration it would have been easier to see the differences if the thread had been another colour.
Like a few others I have just bought an overlocker, I’m excited and nervous to use it all at the same time. Your video has given me confidence to get going. Thank you.
I have an overlocker for years and years. Never really used it properly. This is sooo helpful. Not the same brand but I certainly will study it properly now. Really looking forward to seeing what I can achieve. Thanks so much
I bought an overlocker for Christmas. I have just got it out of the box. The lady in the shop demonstrated it and I have tried to follow the instruction book but it seems very complicated. Now I have seen you use it I will have another go. Thank you Ryan
Thank you for demonstrating your over locker, I have just purchased the same make of machine as yours, I found your video very informative as I don't always find reading a manual is always that good at explaining things, I really purchased the machine to do rolled hems, which you made so simple to do, thank you so much for taking the time to produce this video.
Hi, I am an intermittent machine user. I can go a long time between sewing projects. The overlocker can be intimidating. This was a helpful tutorial and refresher. Thanks so much!
Your video just came up in my feed this morning and I found your presentation clear and really informative. I am still learning all about the world of overlockers and feel more confident now. Have a great day.
Thank you, thank you, thank you - I haven't received my overlock yet but am getting prepared! This video is exactly what I needed to explain the stitches and the setting. AWESOME!
Thanks Ryan, this is a very helpful and comprehensive tutorial for new overlocker users. I particularly appreciated the way that you took time to explain the different threads and demonstrated the stitches. My daughter and I are looking forward to your next videos. Thank you from Australia 🦘
Just bought my overlocker and this is the best video I have seen. I’m complete novice and Ryan’s video was easy to understand and I now can set it up and understand how it works. Thank you. Brilliant
Me too. I’m autistic so I hope this comment isn’t inappropriate (I’m never sure) but it might be worth mentioning if YOU can’t do something due to your disability that you qualify that. I heard you say “ you disengage that but I’m not going to because it’s so difficult to put back.. or words to that effect and I started to panic I’d bought a rubbish machine but I kept watching and realised it wasn’t the machine per se but how awkward it is to do with just one hand. Ryan… I applaud you. We struggle with 2 and you just get on with it. Good lad. (I’m 67 so I CAN say that). I learned SOOOO much by watching to the end. Thank you so much.
Now that’s what I call an excellent tutorial. After watching many videos as I have my first second hand overlocker and no manual, I watched endless videos and they were useless. Thanks very much for sharing this. Amazing!!!
I have an overlooked I haven't used in years because I never figured out how the stitches actually worked. Thank you for such a clear explanation of the stitches and the settings on the machine. ❤
Thanks Ryan, Ive just inherited a very old Singer overlocker and after having it cleaned and serviced Ive got to learn how to use it. Your video was very informative and has given me the confidence to go try it out. Thank you.
Thank you so much. I'm just getting used to an overlocker, so far I've learned how to thread and use the basic 4 thread stitches. I still get very confused by the settings, making it more narrow or wider and getting the chain to look correct. Mine didn't come with a book so I'm having to use the net to learn. I'm so glad that I found you.
Ryan thanks for your very comprehensive demo. I have the exact same model which I bought a long tie ago! I have never gotten to grips with it but with your very clear instructions it's coming out tomorrow for a practice session 😊 Keep up the good work and thanks again. Janet.
@@RyanRixSewing Hi Ryan. I got my Janome set up the next day and spent a couple of hours getting to know it. After practicing on spare fabric I am now ready to get started on the alterations I've put off for so long. Thank you again Janet 🤗
Ryan this video is amazing and incredibly useful. It made me understand so much more the second hand serger that I just bought and was looking at her ever since cause its so intimidating at the beggining. Keep going... thank you!
Really great information Thankyou so much, I’ve had a overlocker for at least 8 years & never used it because it just looked too complicated & I hate reading 🤦🏻 on the other hand my sewing machine it’s made it’s money back a thousand times in alterations I can do almost anything on that, 🤔 not so good on stretch material though because obviously when it is stretched after sewing the thread can break 😤
My iPad must be reading my mind because I was just about to write a comment on the video I watched yesterday , which was most helpful on how to thread the machine. There was emphasis on the four different colours to follow. It would have been even better if the colours matched the machines colours used to guide with the threading . Looking foreword to see more videos.
Excellent Video Ryan!! I was Taught to Sew at an early age (Mother was big on us having many strings to our Bows so we were self reliant) So with an Ordinary Sewing Machine I'm well away, but, coming up to 60 now I inherited a Singer Overlocker from my Mother, who recently passed away, and quite Frankly it gave me the Screaming Willies, 🥵 🤯 until i seen this video, now I think I'm in with a chance of actually getting some back burner Projects Done using it (custom Fishing Rod Sleeves, Hammock Underquilt & Topquilt) and also getting them to look like they were not made by a troupe of blind Monkeys would be great, I had better start watching more of your vids & Practising hehe 😀 😀

Awesome video, will checkout your threading video. I recently found a Janome 9200D in a charity shop. They said it was working so I bought it but I didn't have a clue how to test it so it's been in a box for a few months now. it does look a bit intimidating but I'll have a go.
Thank you so much Ryan for this. You have explained everything so clearly and concise. I have had my Janome for 4 years now and still don't really understand the damn thing and I was fearful of it! What are they like for blind hemming?
Quite interesting. I will always use this video for references. Thanks so much. However I suggest you use a dark fabric with a white thread for contrast. It's difficult seeing the thread. Thanks man
I've never actually seen these machines before, so I know nothing about how to use them. Someone recently gave me a used one (with no manual). Great demonstration Ryan, so well explained, thank you! I've been thinking of getting an overlocker but really wasn't sure how they work. This helped tremendously 😊
Thank you as per usual brilliant and easy to understand. great to see the different stitches it can do. looking forward to more especially collars mine never turn out right yet !! but im not giving up lol. Thank again Ryan.
THANK YOU. THIS WAS A BIG HELP. tHE ONLY PROBLEM i HAD WAS THAT MY LEFT NEEDLE THREAD DID NOT CARRY ALL THE WAY THROUGH TO COMPLETE THE FLAT LOCK STITCH. PART OF THE STITCH WAS PERFECT BUT THE FIRST FEW INCHES THE LEFT NEEDLE THREAD DIDN'T LOOP BUT WAS STRAIGHT.

Hi, Ryan I want to overlock my lining for a dress I am making. Unfortunately I am not having much luck. Can you recommend some basic settings to get me started and point me in the right direction. I'm 65 and there are so many knobs etc to think about that I don''t think I will ever get it right. Hope you can help? Thank you. I have a Janome 9300DX
Hi yes definitely the differential feed! Lower it by 1 each time and test. Adjust from there. What I do to reset is take some fabric and measure the edge you will overlock. Overlock it then re measure to see if it’s shorter or longer and go from there and repeat until it’s the same🥰
Thank you for this demonstration.
Better yet, 4 different contrasting colors, so you can see all the separate threads.
What a super video, you explained things so well. Thank you for demystifying the flatlock seam...I shall be keeping this to re watch.

Hi, what is going wrong? How is the fabric responding?
Hi Ryan, many thanks for getting back. It appears to be gathering. Will that maybe the differential feed needs to be lowered?
Hi yes definitely the differential feed! Lower it by 1 each time and test. Adjust from there. What I do to reset is take some fabric and measure the edge you will overlock. Overlock it then re measure to see if it’s shorter or longer and go from there and repeat until it’s the same🥰
