  • When producing a therapeutic protein, scientists must engineer a cell line that has optimal growth characteristics and that produces large amounts of high-quality therapeutic protein. This animation describes how such a cell line can be engineered. It explores how scientists use the process of transfection to introduce the nucleotide sequence that encodes the therapeutic protein into host cells to produce pools of transfected cells. It also explains how a single ideal clone is selected from the transfected pools for large-scale therapeutic protein production.
