Even though this was a dark groove, "Grapevine" by Marvin is arguably one of the greatest records ever made.
Marvin was an exceptional singer!
Greatest track by Marvin Gaye pure classic
He is just soooo smooth...good...ness.
Creedence covers this song too. Where this version is super smooth, that version is gritty and swampy and on fire. Check out the long version of it some time.
So happy to see you react to Marvin! He was the King of Smooth.
My favorite song by Marvin ~ Think it was the beat ~ Soon as those first 2 notes broke, knew the song, up on our feet dancing ~ So popular, they made a TV commercial ~ Anybody remember The California Raisins ~ Singing, Dancing, Snapping their fingers to this song? ~ It was innovative and creative genius for its time ~ Would hear it on the TV and run to watch, amazed ~LOL ~ !
Funny you mention this. Excuse me but HELL YES I do.We did a dance production number in 89 at age 14 dressed up like California raisins to this song.🤣lol!
@@brookehornback1896 No "excuse" necessary Brooke ~ So glad you remembered! ~ That dance production must have been SO much fun ~ Just know it was Awesome ~ HELL YEAH!!! ~ LOL ~ ( Snappin' n Clappin' for You )!!! ~ Much Love & Happiness To You! ~;-)
@@stormatsunup It was so long ago yet I can still remember some of the dance steps we did.Good times!!Have an awesome day😀
@@brookehornback1896 Oh Yeah, Good Times! You have a lovely day ~;-)
This version with Marvin Gaye became popular all over again in the beginning of the movie "The Big Chill"
#NoLimitNation! 🔥
*TWON* ! Two more "must-Marvins":
*Mercy, Mercy Me* and *Let's Get It On* !
💪🏾👊🏽😎
Marvin Gaye was one of a kind. May be at sweet rest now.
Yes.. he killed this...😁😁
You ought to look up the video of him singing the National Anthem before a basketball game. It is astonishing.
🤩❤Marvin!!
This is CLASSIC Motown!!! 💜🎶💜 Gladys Knight (& The Pips) do a GREAT cover of this! Totally worth checking out.
Also I can't hear this without thinking of raisins. You won't get that, you're too young 😂🤣😂
Gladys and Pips version is NOT a cover, it’s the ORIGINAL.
@@elixavier8351 Oooops you're right, I forgot! My bad!
I am so glad this generation does not know about the raisins.
@@kathylee1261 Awe they were cute. Now they are retro!
In my book, Marvin did 3 of the best songs ever, and you've now heard 2 of them: this and "What's Going On". The one you haven't heard yet is "Let's Get it On", so you've got to hear that!
I love Motown. I'm from Detroit and I grew up listening to it.
Pick a Marvin Gaye song, any song....they're all 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Facts
They bought the rights for the commercial with the california raisins.
Marvin Gaye was top, man. I grew up listening to him among others. Check out "Everyday People" by Sly and the Family Stone for a treat to know what the early seventies were like.
U need to hear da acapella version of him, nothing but fire
Marvin Gaye did his own background vocals, but you need to listen to the album "What Is Going On!"
When I was younger, I thought he was singing - heard it through the great wire. 😀
Man I used to dance to this song with my family when I was young. What a blast!
I just waved back at you. 😂 yes you waved at the beginning. Thanks for playing Marvin Gaye. 💫
Need to do Let’s Get It On by Marvin. Smokin hot song!
Gladys Knight and the Pips also recorded this song and had a hit with it. It's a very different interpretation. You should listen to that one, too.
Twon. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, You gotta hear "Heard It Through The Grapevine by Gladys Knight and the Pips.
And, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE Play "My Girl" by the Temptations. This is one of their all time classics
Classic r&b 😃
You need to check out
Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell.
" Precious Love "
"Ain't No Mountain High Enough "
" You're All I Need To Get By "
" Ain't Nothing Like The Real Thing "
🔥🔥🔥
Marvin and Tammi =🔥🔥🔥
Gladys Knight & the Pips were the first recording act to make this song famous.
Got to check out the CCR version of this song. John Fogerty kills the vocals on this song with his power and grit. I love both versions, they're different💞
This is why I watch these reactions... You are Killin' it! Marvin ain't bad either...Ha!
For a female version try Gladys Knight
Another great Marvin Gaye song "Troubled Man". Should I suggest a day of the week dedicated to jazz.
Mr Marvin Gay was a sooth dude. I love his vocals.
As-Stevie Wonder
Marvin is my main groove man. Thanks, Twon! Hope you react to "What's going on?" They're all good!!!
Put it this way. If this song is playing better not touch my dial!!!💛
Thanks man
Listen to him singing the National Anthem at the forum
Perfect song, isn't it? Love the smoothness of Marvin Gaye! Creedence Clearwater did a version of this song that is Epic, but a different feel from this one; you should react to their version to experience them both 💖
Neil Young. Harvest moon official video
You enjoyed CCR, check out their cover of this, way different, but also way good! Thanks for Motown Monday’s!
Twon please to a reaction to Three Dog Night! Anyone of their songs is worth listening and reacting to.
A few other artists have covered this song also. Creedence Clearwater Revival, Gladys Knight & the Pips, and Roger Troutman of Zapp is probably my favorite.
Check out Marvin Gaye's Stubborn Kind Of Fellow and Can I Get A Witness!
You really should invest some time and watch a documentary titled “Standing in the Shadows of Motown”. I think you will have an even greater opinion of these fabulous artists, especially the house band The Funk Brothers.
pull up some of vocal tracks with the rest of the mix removed. Great singer! Also discover his duets with Tammi Terrell especially "Ain't No Mountain High Enough"!
🎶🎶🎶💯💯💯
Oooh! So glad you finally reached to this!
Reminder: fantastic harmonizing ....truly
In 'California Dreamin' by Mamss & Papas. Don't ket group name turn you off. React to this refreshing groove! Then go random again & reactvyo Santana's ' Smooth'
Its a nice roller coaster ride...
#NoLimitNation
Listen to Ms. Barbra Aklin "Love That Makes A Woman".!
Hey Twon. This song was also covered by Gladys Knight and the Pips. Their version is very different from Marvin's but it is equally good. Check it out. Peace.
Hey Twon! Motown Monday and I AM HERE! I totally agree about
Marvins voice..no other artist sounds like him..he’s surely missed. ❤️🔥
Love you..love your reactions!! Keep on comin man! Eddie Holman
with “hey there lonely girl” is awesome…haven’t seen anyone react to
him yet..maybe they block him..don’t know. Great song though ❤️❤️🔥
There's SO much great music from that era. A personal favorite is Wilson Picket's "Mustang Sally." ua-cam.com/video/16u6w0cjjrU/v-deo.html
Nephew please react to George Michael "Kissing a fool " 💋 💋 🤎🤎🤎🖤🖤🖤
Yes!🔥🔥🔥
Check out the Creedence Clearwater version of this. It’s 💯
Twon listen to Marvin what's going on
Can you react to “Charlie sheen” or “drippin” by nick nittoli
Marvin Gaye - Inner City Blues
Agreed. Marvin is one of my favorite voices. For another smooth singer who had hits just before him, check out Sam Cooke. I love “Bring it on Home to Me.”
OMG! I remember getting this 45 rpm record for Christmas when I was 9 years old ~ waaayyy back in the 1960's ! I listened to it non stop for days!!!! I also got a tambourine that xmas ~ Best gifts ever!!!! Love Marvin! Check out his duets with Tammy Terrell ~ ua-cam.com/video/Jz_D-greh8Q/v-deo.html
Twon, these old school Black singers/musicians were incredibly talented. They were copied and were the inspiration for American and British bands back in the day; they are the foundation for all genres of American music.
Great to see you enjoying this music, what a legacy.
Clicked pretty quickly for this one Twon!! 👏🏽
Got caught in my room singing into a screwdriver with an audience of 4, pretty young maybe 8!! 😳 This is my fav Marvin song!! ❤👍🏽
You should definitely listen to I want you by narvin gayevif you like bongos and beats. Its amazing.
I have heard some Bleh songs from Motown. I used to buy "Best of" CDs in hopes of expanding my musical knowledge. (There were ways to do that cheaply in the '90s.) I got "The Best of The Shirelles" because I LOVED their "This is Dedicated to the One I Love", which I heard on a cereal commercial. And "The Best of Percy Sledge" because of LOVED "When a Man Loves a Woman".
I was disappointed in the overall content of both of those "Best of" CDs.
But, I wouldn't even remember the other songs on those CD to recommend them to you. However, if you haven't done "This is Dedicated to the One I Love", ya gotta! ya absolutely gotta!
Surely you've reacted to "When a Man Loves a Woman" Right?
It was originally recorded by Gladys Knight and the Pips. Then Marvin Gaye. Then everyone else.
I listen to my kids talk to me about today’s current R & B artists. I played this for them. Now they understand…
Marvin shits all over anybody out today. One of the largest vocal ranges ever. Never heard his equal… EVER!!!
There is a video of him singing this with the music removed....it's unbelievable 😍😍🔥🔥
Two of Marvin's main influences as a singer were Nat King Cole and Sam Cooke. All three had similar voices, but not all sang in the same styles. One of Marvin's earliest albums was a tribute to the recently deceased Nat King Cole. It's not that difficult to imagine Sam Cooke singing Sexual Healing. Check out Marvin's "Here My Dear" album, it will blow your mind.
Now for the next Motown Monday you should react to Gladys Knight’s version of this same song!! It’s a little faster. I’m sure you’ll love it too!
Marvin is the Bomb ❤️ My no1 artist til the day I die ❤️ You were definitely born in the wrong era lol !! You seem to love the old school soul ❤️
great version ... another one is by Rare Earth thru Motown.
Another thing to react to some can see how you feel about it': dancing in the dark /Bruce Springsteen.
Marvin Gaye was The Prince of Motown that was his title back in day
You made the stank face in about 3 seconds ! Awesome reaction!
One of the absolute best records EVER!
Unique is what the man was.
Another great song
Beautiful voice! Smooth as silk.
