But you didn't play it Acoustically! Wow man, I love this thing, but hows the resonance with the hide glue?
I have a Wildwood Spec 50s standard and it plays closer to a 58 or 59 custom shop. The tribute 59 wildwood spec pickups are the best PAFs I’ve ever played. Its neck is smaller for a 50s as well. The top is absolutely perfect and as good as I’ve ever seen.
It’s just an extra $200 for guaranteed quality. Very happy with mine and would buy again in an instant
My 60's standard "wildwood spec" les paul is awesome! The flame top is ridiculous! I have a custom shop and the wildwood looks just as good
Mine too, excellent sounding, in tune guitar
@@Macmax7077 😎😎😎 I'm not in the market for another les paul, but when I am I'll only buy it from wildwood
I live 20 minutes from this shop and own two PRSs with wildwood specs. They always choose the best tops I’ve seen on a guitar. I have an S2 that has a top that comes close to a Core model top.
Today they posted an insane looking blue Wood Library C24 Fatback, and another beautiful SG.
I have 3 les pauls from wildwood...the best LPs can get❤❤❤
I've been a Fender player for most of my life, and only bought my first Les Paul last year, and it is a beautiful Wildwood Spec 50's Standard. They have gorgeous products.
Man I just really noticed how much Trogly's playing has improved over the years. That little funky rhythm on the middle pickup was just clean. Big props.
I don’t mind binding bleed. It’s part of the charm
With the quality control issues i keep hearing about, i would definitely go to wildwood specifically for their high standards.
I purchased my 30th anniversary PRS from Wildwood Guitars quite a few years ago. Totally worth it and very happy with it. Still my most played guitar...
I purchased a 2014 LP R0 from Wildwood (in 2014) and noticed that the finish had not completely hardened when I received it. It was a bit sticky for several months. Maybe the same issue happened with this SG and the red dye mingled with the still soft lacquer. Thanks for covering this amazing looking guitar!
The Amber switch Tip really adds ambiance to any Gibson or Epiphone👍😎☯️
My Wildwood Spec Gibson Custom Shop Les Paul R8 is my #1 guitar. I love everything about it. Mine is the green lemon fade gloss, say that 10 times fast lol. I would recommend a Wildwood Spec to anyone. They also give a damn about their customers and go above and beyond when it comes to service. During covid
they helped me pick one out of two samples and I'm very picky, it worked out believe it or not when you couldn't just go to a store and check it out.
I actually like the way binding bleed looks. My 60s burst has it and it looks good. On another note, this is a very nice sg
Wildwood is my first stop, especially for Gibsons. Got a Wildwood Spec Les Paul a few years ago. Stunning top. They have photos of the actual guitar, and send additional pics upon request, along with specific notes about that guitar. Just bought my first SG from them last month-‘61 with Vibrola-and the notes about it being resonant were spot on. I chose the top for its grain figuring, and had them set it up specifically with Vibrola tuning stability in mind, and lawd, it’s fantastic. Might be my favorite guitar now, and until a year ago I had zero interest in SGs…. Wildwood will be my first call when I add a P-90 SG or Les Paul later in the year.
Beautiful SG sounds good to 👍🤘
I have 2 WW guitars, a Les Paul Standard '50s Collection tobacco burst , and a J-45 heritage cherry sunburst. I've heard others complain about prices, but that wasn't my experience.
would love to pick up an SG or Tele someday
Great looking and sounding SG!
I have a 2022 50’s wildwood select top Les Paul and it’s incredible. The top is insane and the 59’ Tribute PAFs are fantastic.
Trogly should check out the John 5 ghost telecaster, it's essentially like a buckethead les paul but a telly (colour scheme and killswitch and all)
Your videos are getting better every time. Great insight with your reviews. Loved to see Greg Koch at the beginning. Acquaintance of my son. He played guitar with him at our house around 2013. Greg is a monster guitarist and can stand with the best of them. Telecaster guy but when he gets ahold of a Gibson that he likes, he transforms his playing and will knock your socks off. If he says, “I”ll take this one”, use that for your new benchmark! Thanks for the great work you are doing with the videos.
I like the binding bleed, I think it looks good.
Greg Koch is just, well, better than the rest of us...
love that back of neck taper that allows you to play comfortably on the high frets
Yes please! What a fabulous guitar!
I have a wildwood r8 that I love!
Mahogany tone is unbeatable.
The "Headless" guitar player has made another outstanding video.
I have a Wildwood Spec 64’ SG Standard in ebony from 2021. My favorite Gibson!
My 2016 SG’s teardrop pickguard does not hang over like that. It is one fewer ply, which makes that look like a jig mistake when cutting it.
Trogly’s playing has developed a lot, keep on the great work, much more enjoyable demos with improved playing with superb smart content as always!
Great sounding SG.
I love my WW LP standard Unburst. Its top is better than most 59 reissue tops imo. The WW 59’ spec pickups sound killer as well. I’ve played this guitar against Historics and it holds its own.
This is very cool. I feel so blessed that my humdrum sg tribute ended up with a bit of a flamey neck and other bits of figuring. Pure luck of the draw.
I understand why someone would just want a normal guitar, but i do think this is a cool idea.
Did I miss an announcement about the demo/mod shop review?
I have a wood library PRS DGT from Wildwood that Greg Koch did a video with.
There is a newly arrived 61' reissue SG at Wildwood with some incredible woodgrain , Ide love to get an SG , with a hardshell case dammit !...Thanks Trogly !
I would probably spring for this model if I had to have an SG. It's got the right tone, and the idea of having a guitar that is both lightweight and balanced is not bad at all. Furthermore, when you rang Wildwood Guitars, was that Greg Koch who answered?
i just got one of these out of the demo shop (a normal 61), i think my Lacquer is amber'd over and also my pickguard is not funky like that one.
Hey Trogly,
Have you reviewed a '62 reissue SG? I have one from 1989. I don't see them too often. I haven't compared it directly to a '61, but the horn end of the pickguard is more "stubby", if that makes sense. It's stamped as cherry, but it's so dark compared to this one. I'd be interested to know the difference in a side by side comparison.
My last two Gibson les Paul moderns were from wild wood guitar.
I love that case.
That is a great sounding SG!
Is the Gibson Mod shop and Reverb Gibson Demo shop done? No updates in a week or more.
The Trogly's Guitar Show, This video is fantastic! I liked it a lot!
This SG is fantastic.
That middle position clean ! Dirty sounds though were way too harsh for me
That’s the issue with hearing a guitar in isolation. I’d be willing to bet what sounds too harsh and in your face in isolation like this is exactly what will make the guitar stand out properly in a band mix and sound awesome.
What happened to the players grade 61 sg you had
Very nice I do like the SG ❤
This is a very nice looking guitar, very cool wood grain .
that Pickguard situation is funny. I have an pretty old epiphone sg 61, the pickguard fits better
After watching countless Gibson teardowns, it becomes evident that the cavity routing quality is a second thought and no real concern, no matter how expensive the guitar might be. Other manufacturers have addressed this issue and make guitars with immaculate exteriors and interiors, at this kind of money, it sure seems like a deliberate oversight.
But it makes no difference to the guitar.
Paintwork, binding, chewed up fretboards etc make no difference to the guitar either, but you wouldn't be overjoyed if you paid premium prices and got careless attention to detail in the cosmetic finish, even in places you don't see often. It instills confidence and pride of ownership if you can see where they went the extra mile, especially in places you don't see often.
@@PaulCooksStuff Exactly, it is a systemic problem that points to an overall lack of concern. It is a minor detail, a point of pride.
If you had Greg doing play demos on your videos hands down this would be the greatest guitar channel on UA-cam
nice guitar...BUT the standard tailpiece config. makes it look a bit short or "stumped at the bridge....the maestro vibrola looks so much better and balanced....plus has a nice resonance and no...i dont use the tremolo at all....haa....
Say What? The Shania Twain effect!?!?😅
The guitar screams.... 🎶 Man I feel like a woman! 🎶
Have they ever done a string through body SG?
That would be cool to see. ESP just came out with an Eclipse Jr (Les Paul style) with string through body. Looks really cool.
nice sg for sure
Good grief that guitar is BEAUTIFUL!
What is that "Lees" Paul on the truss rod cover?!🤨
It's purty. I do like a nice SG. Shows that you get em out of the case and play em though :))
How is a custom 61 SG any different or better than the USA version?
Do they actually play better and sound better?
Can you tell the difference if in feel with your eyes closed?

You found the key to a balanced sg. It’s the lightweight tuning machines.
Let's talk about Greg Koch...I've watched many guitarists in my many years, and pound for pound, he is Americas best player, without a doubt! His mastery of all styles, is exemplary! Of course, my opinion...I saw him in Pittsburgh with the trio, last year...Out of this world!
it's a beauty.nice 1 pc body
Wouldn't the 1961 era SGs be the style that all the British blues gurus (Beck, Clapton, Page, etc.) used when they broke in to stardom in the mid-to-late 1960s? Would these reissues "mimic" those in engineering?
Evening Troglodytes!!
Love it!
I owned a real 61 SG back in the early thru late 70s. Unfortunately while playing a gig in Malibu the headstock was broken. After I had it repaired I ended up selling it.
The pickguard hangs over the edge on purpose. It is aerodynamically designed for tone.
For some reason I personally just don’t like maple on sgs. Something about the traditional grain of mahogany suits the shape, whereas maple always seems a bit visually jarring.
i love it but im just a freak for sgs i have 10 for me its the perfect guitar
Still waiting for real differences with the Wildwood specs.
Hell ya! That thing sounds nasty 10/10
ROCK AND ROLL
Nice. This one looks just like the one I bought in 1970. Sadly, it was stolen around 1976. I have been longing for that experience again lately so when I saw your video, before I even watched it, I was on your site and Wildwood. Indeed, they appear to be very nice. However, to not spew the expletives that immediately came to mind, I will simply say that I find the prices too insulting to speak of in polite company. Having Gibsons for over 50 years, it breaks my heart (as the saying goes) to browse Wildwood's site now. Seeing dozens of beautiful, new guitars butchered (aged) seriously makes me weepy. If the consignee came down to half I might send a check. This price? Crazy man, just crazy.
ciao
So are thise real Bumblebee's or are they the 20c bog standard caps with a heatshrink Bumblebee jacket?
What’s the deal with Wildwood Spec guitars? As someone who owns two Gibson Custom Shop Wildwood Featherweight Les Pauls and a Fender American Vintage Wildwood Spec Tele Custom I can say that what the deal is is that they’re awesome!! 😉
You just called me poor. Three times.
@@STMNewEngland sorry 😳😉
Hahaha
Amen brother, I’ve got a Wildwood spec’d Fender 1959 Strat…it’s absolutely incredible. I’m not a Strat guy at all. I’m a Les Paul guy, but when I need a Strat, I’ve got a killer one to go to 😊.
Totally thought he was wearing something other than a T shirt this time.
It doesn't get better than this
0:29 BRO WHAT?!?!
NAAAHHHHHHHHH
Wildwood packin’
Z is for late.
Yeah nah, that pickguard sticking out at the bottom like that would annoy me on such an expensive guitar
Hey there
❤
Did anyone else swear that was Greg Koch on the phone?
Yep, looks a lot like an SG to me lol. 😂
Ugghhh trogly WHY. I was saving for one just like this and just lost all my savings on chemotherapy bills due to fighting leukemia. This video was really hard to watch
Sorry to hear and hope you are doing well; you'll get that SG soon enough!
Should he issue a health warning before reviewing a guitar?
That sucks. Maybe skip watching it?
@@ChrisShortyAllen you clearly dont know expressive emotional speaking. Of course he has no obligation to post warnings. I'm expressing how I felt. I'm not mad at him or blaming him. Even if I were he shouldn't care. Because the world needs to stop caring about such things
i feel you on surprise expenses, and good luck with the recovery!
guitar will always be there
That thing is tnt it's dynomite 😉 whoever gets it, should play the hell out of it. I would if I could afford it.
So, over time, the "binding bleed" fades away? "This one was made in 2014", it is 2024...10 years isn't enough for it to start fading, lol. (I know, I know... a Gibson isn't even "broken in" after only 10 years...)
The COA date is my birthday. Shame this thing is wayyyy out of my budget.
Wildwoodguitars has the best looking gibson inventory around 🤘
I have a 2021 Gibson Wildwood Select Standard and gotta tell ya , the pickups are the cheesiest , weakest lack of UMPH pickups I have ever played on a Gibson ... Terrible choice on their part using Alnico 3 bar magnets
Great what?
People who hasn’t had a wildwood don’t understand how good they are
never want the word spec on any gear I ever have
It's killin' him, not playing that lick, lol. Seems to go for it and catch himself...
"Wildwood Spec" is code for a $500 upcharge, nothing more
$500-$2000ish
Lol. Can't disagree.
Yeah,bs
What they offer just in beautiful tops puts them above most. Just can't compare with their inventory
😂😅
Great guitar, but then again it's $5K, right? And the pickguard fits like a $139 guitar. Kind of shocking that the Gibson Custom Shop would let it out of the factory like that.
500 for my piss in the case.
