      Hello, I'm not the most entertaining person to watch, but hopefully you find something useful. I just subbed to you too! Look forward to watching also. Be blessed!

      @@TexasBeekeeper I've had a bee box & some equipment for about 5 years now. Not sure what I am waiting for. Lolol. I need to watch! Thank you for subbing. I appreciate that.

      @@bluefeatherhomestead You definitely should start beekeeping! It is so much fun and they are amazing creatures! And......you already have the equipment. Now's the perfect time to start reading up/watching videos on beekeeping if you wanted to get started next Spring.

    Wouldn’t bother with insulation, tried it with a small beverage cooler, actually ice melted sooner. Looked to me like dead air space was better insulator.

      Hey Wes, That's interesting. I may do one and then put a thermometer probe in each to compare. Appreciate you stopping by and commenting.

    Neat little devices, Someday soon I may need something like those :D

      Hey Lagrange, It will be interesting to see how they do. I still prefer the wooden 3 frame mating Nucs, but these are nice because you don't have to build them. =)

    My kids would love to build stuff with them, do they fit with existing Lego? ; )

    • @TexasBeekeeper

      LOL. You know, I just checked my closet and it looks like I threw away the last of my legos probably within the last 30-35 years. That would have been awesome though.

    Thanks for sharing those. I like the stacking potential. Can you remove the feeder and replace it with two more frames? It kind of looks like they are set up for that. You could stack boxes full of frames and get them all drawn out from one small colony, then split them down. I've been doing something similar with the Lyson mating nucs.

      Hmmm. Interesting thought. That would be an extra added bonus. And the more I think about it, I do think it should be possible. At least 1 frame. Might not be the spacing for 2. Hang tight and I'll check and comment back later.

      @TexasBeekeeper  2 роки тому +1

      Sorry for the late response...I finally got out to my shop to check and it looks like they thought about expanding the frames. When the feeder is removed, it will hold 2 more frames and even has the frame spacers extended into the feeder area. So it could hold a total of 6 mini frames.

    Clear plastic with red flap is to keep bees in and put in virgin or queen cell into the mini. Th scallops in top of frames make circle that will line up with plastic cover.The sliding bottom is to put bees in. Very handy mini.

    those are pretty neat, are they insulated at all? or just plastic?

    • @TexasBeekeeper
      @TexasBeekeeper  2 роки тому +1

      Those are not insulated Bob. I was going to try and put some foam insulation in at least one to see how it does. Otherwise, they are hollow plastic. I had expected that they were insulated, but they weren;t.

      Hey DC. Man, I'm looking forward to Spring time, but I've got a ton of work to do between now and then. Hence the purchased mating nuc. =) I've got more than I can handle to build otherwise. Take care

      I like them better than the Styrofoam, but I'm working on a different idea that I just haven't had time to complete yet.

      @@TexasBeekeeper do you think they will last longer?

    • @TexasBeekeeper
      @TexasBeekeeper  8 місяців тому

      @@Goochieman I think so. I still haven't had them long enough to really see exactly how long they'll last, but some positive points are, that you don't have to paint them like you would styrofoam and they won't dent, puncture or break as easily as styrofoam either.

      Hi!
      I didn't end up using them yet this year. I've been working on a ton of things and, to be honest, these kind of slipped off my radar.
      I still have hopes to graft very soon if I can ever find the time, so I'll make it a point to try and use these (if I do end up grafting still this year).
      Thanks for the reminder!

    I've looked at those boxes before on Amazon, just the other night on bobs live someone was asking why use the mating nukes when you can't do much with them over winter. You could try stacking that and getting a nucs worth of bees going into winter in a stacked one. I could see the stack being useful for queen rearing, but too my knowledge they don't do any frames for that for theses boxs so that potential Is lost. Plus the fact that you could do more in standard equipment. The only turn on to buy if your already invested in the equipment ecosystem.

    • @TexasBeekeeper
      @TexasBeekeeper  2 роки тому +2

      Yes sir. The only reason I'm doing the mini mating nucs is because I'm already falling behind on building hive boxes for next year. The plan is to just use them to mate Queens and then place the mated Queens in Hives or to sell. I do have some 3 frame mating nucs and that is my preference since it does allow for the mating nuc to build up and expand into a Nuc. Thanks for stopping in.
