40. Roosevelt Franklin (voiced by Matt Robinson) - Фільми й анімація
That Roosevelt Franklin cameo was precious. ;;
That was just totally heartwarming to watch.
Those of us who were watching in the first year remember Roosevelt with deep affection. My dad was a student of African-American history and culture, and loved Ro the instant he heard his name. From my dad's enjoyment, I learned that Roosevelt Franklin was special. I've missed him ever since.
I think Chris really does Matt Robinson proud as the voice of Roosevelt Franklin.
Oh yeah Chris Knowings. He plays Chris and the retired now-supporting
character Roosevelt Franklin in the present.
Okay, seeing Holly Robinson Peete encounter Roosevelt was just seven kinds of heartwarming. I watched those several few seconds of the video over and over because I just found it that awesome.
And wow, Chris did a terrific job capturing his voice. Roosevelt totally seemed like himself, as if he'd never gone anywhere all this time.
I loved Roosevelt Franklin! As a Black kid raised by a single mom (for most of my life), I always identified with him and his mom. My mom actually used his alphabet to help me learn my own alphabet and I remember the Christmas that she bought me his album too
yap i loved the shapes shit.
The first time I went to the Henson wing of the Center for Puppetry Arts, my wife was trying to get me to take a photo of Big Bird.
Instead my eyes locked on Roosevelt Franklin, and I lost my mind. I *may* have swore inside the Henson wing, and had to apologize....
Thank you for giving him such a focal point in your series.
@Frizzurd more like, "Holy F***, that's Roosevelt Franklin!"
Are you a puppeteer? That's so cool that you've been there!
real cool to see Roosevelt Franklin appeared in another show!!
I remember Roosevelt Franklin. Since his name is a reverse of Franklin Roosevelt (as in the President of the United States of America between 1933 and 1945, who got us through the Great Depression and World War Two), is it possible that Roosevelt Franklin's middle name is Delano?
Roosevelt Franklin was my idol as a little kid. I was the youngest child on my block and all of my neighbors went to school before I was old enough so I felt left out. I liked that Roosevelt was a kid in school so I had an idea of what school life would be like when I got there. Later I learned about Franklin Roosevelt and thought the president must have been named after the muppet! (I was a weird kid LOL)
Henri Wolfshoen 🎶 Roosevelt Franklin (baa) Elementary School. Elementary School 🎶
Henri Wolfshoen It's a kids show . Why would people complain about this.
He Also Appeared In The 50th Anniversary Celebration, Saying To Joe “Yo Yo!” And Also Taking Part In The Sing A Song Part
It's weird, since Roosevelt just appeared like, a week ago in a 'My Sesame Memory' or what ever. A literal run by cameo. Lol. But this series is amazing. You're doing a great job, Colin.
Thank you! And i saw the cameo as i was finishing up the video editing, ironically.
Thanks for adding Roosevelt Franklin , to the list...he was one of my favorite muppets on Sesame Street and my first crush lol 😊, thanks for your countdown of retired Sesame Street muppets .... looking forward to part 5.👍
Vicki Burton 🎶Roosevelt Franklin (baa) Elementary School. Elementary School 🎶
Actually, Roosevelt Franklin was named for president Franklin Roosevelt, they reversed the names. Which is why he would say did someone call me by my first and last name.
It was a spoof of the then-current African-American fashion for giving boys the last name of an admired famous person as a first name. (C.f. Roosevelt Greer.)
cool to know.
Actually, Roosevelt is one of the few characters I am glad took an early retirement. That way he didn't suffer any character change.
I liked Roosevelt Franklin! I thought he was cute. Whenever I saw him, I wanted to give him a big, squishy hug!
I think Matt Robinson had the rights to this character entirely
I was born in '98 so it looks like I missed the bulk of these characters, but I do wish I had gotten to see Roosevelt Franklin, he seems fun and is adorable
You can check out Roosevelt Franklin's episodes on UA-cam.
Do you know the muppet named Little Kate the moon princess
@@willam57 Nope :( I only remember the most well-known muppets
I’m just praying that they’ll officially put Roosevelt back in the show because of this golden anniversary.
This is Joshua I hope they bring Alice snuffleupgus back permentely on the show
I think they would ruin Roosevelt now.
@@citycrusher9308 why?
@@aaronjames3228 if Alice snuffleupgus returns to the show snuffy will be so surprised
Aaron James SJWs maybe?
I can tell Chris is really having fun doing Roosevelt hope he might return someday
I started watching Part 1 by accident and now I’m hooked!! Thank you so much for this series. You’re like a Muppet Ken Burns. Keep it up man. I haven’t missed an episode!!!! ❤️
Thank you! I appreciate hearing that!

@@ColinLooksBack Same! this series brings back great memories. Muppets I had totally forgotten about - I'm like - yeah I remember that guy!
Loved Roosevelt Franklin !!!!! Thanks so much for this.....I have that albun and still use his skits with children......
"Hi I'm dr feel"
Was Dr. Feel and Dr. Phil in only one episode
Yeah, it scared me as a kid, i don’t know why though
Sesame Street is the safest neighbourhood in the known world.. no violence, no crime... why would there be locks on doors?
In case naked flamingos pop up in your bathtub?
@@admiralofcuteness ... True. That's a sight no one should see.
So...we're ignoring Lefty the Salesman?
Did you miss the previous video involving sandwich stealing cats? Crime is rampant on Sesame Street. Wake up Sheeple! Oh, not you Meryl Sheep. You're a delight. ;)
@CarpyIsdead hi
That Flamingo looked like it was going to attack people.
Does anyone remember the character Guy Smiley?
Yes! I liked him as a kid in the early '70s.
I do, I don't know the last time he was used, I know Henson performed him
My favorite game show host!
Oh yes! I seen him while playing "Let's Make a Word". I used to have that game.
Eric Jacobson took over him after Jim passed away, he still appears occasionally I think
I LOVED Placido Flamingo! I loved his voice, and at least one of his songs got stuck in my head for years. So sad that we'll never see him again.
Placido Flamingo was awesome!!! It was because of him that I ever listened to any opera at all...
Wow that whole "Placido Domingo parody being a creep" thing really aged well.
The flamingo scare me shitless as a kid i still shudder at the thought of seeing it on Sesame Street when i was a kid
I used to hear about people getting a Nobel prize when I was little, and I was like Nobell price is giving out trophies? 😂
I loved Placido Flamingo because even at age 7 or so, I loved opera. It was the same kind of reason I loved Monsterpiece Theater as I was a fan of the actual Masterpiece Theater. I see that there is a 2009 episode 4195 in which a book featuring Placido's picture and Richard Hunt's name is seen, a nice tribute nod. I wonder if Hunt had not died in 1992, if they would have continued to create new content with Placido as they did reuse footage of him until 1998.
The way the Flamingo's beak moves is the creepy part. His beak slightly catches at the end and causes the mouth to move quickly and jarring. It's similar to the way a dog or bird would bite or peck you aggressively. It's unsettling.
That is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard or read.
Who remembers Monty? He was hilarious - I was surprised that he wasn't on the list.
I too was surprised that Monty wasnt featured on here.
The flamingo unnerved me because of the shape of his beak.
“And of course nobody locks their doors in New York”
- Ellen DeGeneres
RIP Ellen's Energy Adventure
I loved Roosevelt Franklin. He even had a theme song.
I forgot to add one other thing to my previous comments. That is that the same time that Roosevelt Franklin was on Sesame Street during seasons one and three, so were the anything people. They were Muppets to. They were performed by Carol Spinney, Jim Henson and Frank Oz.
I mis-heard 'neurotic worrier' as 'erotic warrior'. Maybe I should go watch some 80s sword and sorcery next.
Dr. Price was the Muppet equivalent to Clyde Crashcup, also an inventor who would attempt inventing things which already existed, but with disastrous results.
Clyde Crashcup was a character from "The Alvin Show," featuring the animated characters of Alvin And The Chipmunks, with their friend, David Seville.
I definitely remember Little Jerry (though I probably wouldn't have remembered his name) and the Telephone Rock (and other songs of his). I remember H. Ross Parrot for some reason, too. And Roosevelt Franklin was one of the greatest characters ever! IMO, there was absolutely nothing wrong with his character. The rest of these are after my time. Still looking forward to my all-time favorite in part 5!
Another Muppet that comes to mind is Don Music. The head banging on the piano, I'll never get this never Never!!!. BANG!!.
He covered Don in an earlier installment of this series.
Mary had bicycle, it's painted red as fire, but whenever Mary rode it, the bicycle had a flat tire.
This has been a really fun series so far. While I only remember part of these, it's great to see all of them. The Rock ones would have been great and shame Roosevelt Franklin was removed for what now looks like bad reasoning. Keep up the great work.
I remember my mother had ordered Sesame street magazine when the mailman handed it to me I was so happy because Roosevelt Franklin was on the front cover.
I just thought, after all these years, that Roosevelt Franklin's first name should've been... "RooseFELT"!
I thought that the Rooselvet was the teacher some how. I love this touch back to my kid side. Thank you for the content.
Yeah Placido scarred me. I thought I was the only one, along with the Maria as Charlie Chaplin sketches.
I had toys of Cookie, Ernie, Bert, Big Bird and Roosevelt Franklin when I was little.
Roosevelt wouldve been $$$$$$$$$$ by now. :-)
@@watchingintwentynineteen7786 I agree
I love this series. Kinda sad that there's only 1 left.
What do you mean?
I think They mean that "50 retired sesame street Muppets" has only one left, honestly, I'm pretty sad about it too, i wish it was *every* retired sesame street Muppet.
Odd how you mention one of the Sesame Street Muppets later being known as Ingrid, with the other two later being known as Humphrey and Natasha. I don't think the three have appeared on Sesame Street anymore. Aside from cameos in Elmo's World, I believe that's the last we've seen of them. It's sad, honestly.
I heard that Humphrey J. Monster from the early 1990's is on The Not-Too-Late Show with Elmo as a audience member.
@@gabrielanimate2ndchannel830 Okay, but what about Ingrid and Natasha?
Nah, they going back to Sesame Street in the future in 2020. And the three meet the new characters and muppets. Yeah. But there's nothing to worry about.
Natasha does however return for the HD re-edit of Harvey Kneeslapper's World: Babies.
Man, a video about retired muppets? doesn't sound very interesting. I'll just have a quick look while I work on dinner.
*4 parts later* This series is great. I love this. So many parts of my childhood I forgot.
We're really not going to talk about The Amazing Mumford?! He was definitely one of my family's favorites.
Well, the amazing mumford isn't retired. His most recent appearance was in season 49, just last year.
@@cassiuspeter9673 Huh, did not know that. He was a cool character, so I figured he'd be gone now.
Ah-La Peanut Butter Sandwiches!
Miami Mice! I remember them!
I have a memory of Placido Flamingo's introduction being somewhat scary, like a mystery that the people of the Street were trying to solve and then this freaky character was revealed.
I was so scared of that damn flamingo. When I was a young kid I would love to watch sesame street but each time that flamingo would come on screen I would be so scared that I hid until the segment was over.
I only remember Little Jerry and Placido Flamingo. Only because I was born in January of 1980. And yet some of those other 80s muppet characters I don't have any memory of. But I really hope the 2 Headed Monster, Herry Monster, and Guy Smiley will on the next part. Unless they are still on Sesame Street. I wouldn't know since it's been over 30 years since I last really watch an episode of Sesame Street.
Herry, Guy, and Two-Headed are still on from time to time.
@@jacobkolodney9732 Thanks for telling me since I had wonder if they were still on or not.
Guy Smile or Manamana is my pick for number one.
Loved them both so I hope they are #1 and #2.
I really like the background you provide. Thank you, great work!!
I think Guy Smiley is still in use.
I roughly remember Merry, I only remember she appeared was on 123 count with me. ( 2000s kids?)
You cannot have a finale without Kermit
He’s retired on Sesame but he’s far from being a retired muppet in general
@@rtlthemusician5598 Yeah Hes Like The Muppets Mascot!
Why are people complaining about how black Roosevelt Franklin is? He's very clearly purple.
He's black! Cool??? And it could be the lighting shining off the phelt they used that make him purple or black.
Roosevelt Franklin was in Paul Scheer’s this is my street on the Sesame Street UA-cam channel
I still have my Roosevelt puppet which I got around the mid-'70s.The character's origin and demise is discussed in the book Street Gang. ........... Looking forward to seeing Sam the Machine in your next installment. I remember watching him on a black-and-white TV as he spat out ribbons of paper like those early home calculators.
I remember Sam the Machine! Forgot all about him!
Great book. Binge-read it immediately.
Seeing this one made me wonder if Barkley and Guy Smiley are retired. I made a few discovery in this one (or I don't have any memory of them)
I found Barkley in a Monster Meditation skit and Guy Smiley is still on the show beginning with "Double Get Wordy!"
8:10 I'm shocked they didn't make the cut either
I did not know that the original Gordon performed a muppet
Miami Mice! Such a fun silly concept! I love The whacky Sesame Street parodies of stuff for older people! I like your retrospective videos too!
Placido's beak always weirded me out when I was little, pictures of actual flamingos never bothered me but that puppers beak just unnerved me
YES little jerry!!!!!!
Dre Higbee! What the heck are you doing here?!
Loved Telephone Rock.
Merryl Sheep and Placido Flamingo were both rather arrogant and I wasn't the biggest fan of either. Wasn't scared of it but was slightly put off by the beak and how it opened. Though almost every other reference to flamingos makes me think of him.
Miami Mice were one of the many Sesame Street take off that I was surprised to learn years later were actually based in reality (Same for the 2 characters mentioned above but I knew adults who talked about the real people)
I LOVE YOU ROSIVELT FRANKLIN
I like how you have music from the old Sesame Street 'commercials' in the background. :)
Great List.
I recall finding it odd that the character Telly seemed to have a crush on was obviously the same puppet that they used for his sister. Did they think we were too dumb to notice?
I sure did. Not with Mona, since she was before my time, but the switchover from Juliet to Ingrid. It had been a couple of years, but I was like "I could SWEAR that used to be....!"
rocketdave Sweet home Alabama.
It'd be hilarious if they built three copies of that same puppet for a project, confirming Mona, Juliet, and Ingrid as separate identities.
@@tysargent9647 They likely did. Most puppets have repeated versions of themselves made, dependent on the topic.
@@tysargent9647don’t forget Frieda
Love this videos!! Can't wait for part 5! I hope to see Sam the Machine, Barkley the Dog, & Guy Smiley. Barkley particularly sticks with me, as I remember having a nightmare, back in the late 80s, of Barkley showing up in my yard, & looking & acting very creepy.
guy smiley is still used ocasionally
I love these and I also curious about those rockheads
When I started watching Sesame Street in the late 70’s, Roosevelt Franklin was there, but he was performed by Jerry Nelson.
Did little Jerry do the skit where the guy hadn't cut his hair since 1962. Then he and the band progressively got more covered in hair til they were buried?
@Ricky Shiffer yeah! Lol
Roosevelt was magic to me and the school aswel I wanted to go there!
Thank you for the retrospective! I really liked the Roosevelt Franklin character myself and I even had a set of finger puppets that included him, Grover, Ernie, and Lefty the Salesman.
I tend to like that Little Chrissy's songs were more varied than Little Jerry's. Little Jerry never strayed from 50's, early 60's style rock. I also like how one of the songs Jeff Moss recycled, if accidentally, for The Muppets Take Manhattan's Muppet Babies segment. Also, count me in as someone who was mystified that kids were afraid of Placido Flamingo. I always loved the character. Of course, he was a Richard Hunt signature character. I'm kinda biased about that.
And let's not forget how Roosevelt Franklin was teased to be in a season 40 episode, but I don't think he actually appeared. Maybe in the background as a blink and you'll miss it cameo. There's that photo of Paul Rudd with the Roosevelt puppet on his arm.
I hope Ruby will be featured in the final part. She was an adorable little critter who love to experiment.
0:13 - Little Jerry
1:35 - Merry Monster
2:54 - Meryl Sheep
3:59 - Miami Mice
5:51 - Mona, Frida and Juliet
8:11 - Dr. Nobel Price
10:08 - Placido Flamingo
12:38 - Poco Loco
14:23 - The Rockheads
15:06 - Roosevelt Franklin
Amazed that you just jump into the new versions thank you sooooo much you dont know what it means to me to not have to sit through opening after opening
Great work, love the series! Definitely should let more clips play without commentary just so we can hear these characters without seeking them out ourselves. Keep it up!

Happy 50th anniversary Sesame Street !!
I was born in 1964... So the very first season of Sesame Street was the year I entered kindergarten -- talk about being born at the right time! Even though Roosevelt Franklin wasn't at the top of my list as "favorite Muppet" at the time (Grover and Oscar were contenders), I always did enjoy his segments... especially when he sang with other "kid" Muppets as back-up.
Also-- this is a comment on an earlier part: "Don Music" was another one of those Muppet spoofs of Popular Culture Real People -- in his case, Don McLean (The guy who wrote American Pie). The Muppet even had McLean's shaggy hairstyle.
I love the flamingo one he's the only one i really remember from this bar the adults but he never scared me
13:15 I love Big Bird's Seinfeld style delivery of the silly parrot line
Certain Muppets seen in this video, as well as names like "Roosevelt Franklin" are unlocking memories in my head that I haven't thought of in years...
I am delighted that Roosevelt showed up on Meet the Peetes. Until about a year ago, I didn't know that Holly was Matt Robinson's daughter.
Colin Meryl Sheep also appeared at Jim Henson’s memorial. also about Warren wolf he was Kermit’s replacement while Kermit was with The muppet gang during a muppet family Christmas.
I loved Roosevelt Franklin, as a kid!!!!!!
Poco the Parrot is literally ADORABLE 🥺😍
I grew up with Little Chrissy with him singing "Count it Higher" on our "Count it Higher" DVD
Aye, I saw one of my clips, thanks for putting it there, also Placido didn't really scare me growing up, he just weirded me out
Thanks for posting THIS VIDEO TOO "Colin Looksback!!" What I like about this video is the fact that I was hearing DIFFERENT tunes being playing by "JOE RAPOSO" in the background when each muppet was being featured. I was a HUGE fan of "Joe Raposo!!" However though...I was surprised on how many of these muppets I did NOT remember like the "Miami Mice!!" It's wonderful to see all of these GREAT memories and PLEASE KEEP POSTING MORE VIDEOS!! I REALLY enjoy this A LOT!!
The Telephone Rock is better than any music being written these days.
Placido flamingo used to scare the heck out of me, but I can't remember why.
Well, I'm one of those people who used to be scared of certain TV logos. I've never known why, either.
I think Placido Flamingo was maybe before my time, but I think I have a hunch as to why some kids would be afraid of him. He's got that dark coloration at the end of his beak like a real flamingo, which even took me, a 26 year old, a moment to fully figure out what I was looking at. It kind of looks like weird black lipstick imo. I think a kid might also see that and be kind of unnerved by a large bird with big black deformed lips, and might also think he's a vampire by the way he looks and sounds. Honestly would have scared the heck out of me as a bab!
Notice that final clip where Maria is trying to convince Placido that they shouldn't be married because, as she says, "People can't marry ducks." Today, that wouldn't be considered "politically correct," seeing as how anyone can marry anyone, or even anything, else, like men marrying other men, or women marrying other women, for example. I once heard of a woman who married herself, and a man who married a tree!
I loved Roosevelt Franklin. Thanks for including him in the list.
Do a list of skits or muppets that scared kids the most.
I'm really enjoying these trips down memory lane, thanks for doing these lists!
I haven't really thought much about Sesame Street in over three decades but seeing these videos makes me realize the show has as much lore behind it as some other franchises.
Oooh this is my episode!! Meryl Sheep was just wonderful! Miami Mice were the best. I don't remember Nobel Price, but I did remember Warren Wolf!
Placido Flamingo OMG!!
YES. The early to mid-80s was definitely my era with Sesame Street.
I thought youtube was playing up as you had nothing but a black screen at the start
That's what he usually does. Only talking with pictures/videos
I love sesame street. Im 27 and not ashamed to say its still one of my favorite shows of all time. I dont watch it regularly anymore but occasionally i do even though i dont have kids.
When i was 2 years old i used to watch re runs on dvd and vcr , like the classic episode back in 1980, 1990 and 1970 and notify i was born on 05 but i still remember those fresh classics !!!
I was a first generation Sesame Street viewer... and when I was kid Roosevelt Franklin was my favorite. There was Maria and Luis and Luis’s brother whose name escapes me but there were no muppets that I could identify with by voice as Hispanic. It seemed clear that Roosevelt was African American, even to a 4 year old. For some reason I felt he was more like me than the other muppets. When I saw RF I saw me. Love that little guy to this day. Here we are, many....many years later and my wife and I will still occasionally brake into a course of Roosevelt Franklin... Elementary School! Thanks for the video.
Roosevelt loved him
What about Rodeo Rosie? She was in a few episodes and was featured in a few Sesame Street books?
I never saw her in the show, but I still have some of the books she was in. I remember reading the books and saying, "Who is this?"
