In our first advertising retrospective, we're looking at the long, mostly sad, yet always enthusiastic career of the Trix Rabbit, who will stop at nothing to get some of that sweet cereal. In commercial after commercial, he pursues his goal of obtaining some General Mills goodness, yet rarely to any avail. Join us as we watch the cereal and Rabbit both evolve, and see if he's ever gotten a spoonful or two of Trix.

Ya gotta love the hypocrisy of BUGS, a fellow rabbit, being allowed to eat Trix, and the kids even offering some to the Trix Rabbit when he's disguised as Bugs, but THIS PARTICULAR RABBIT isn't allowed to eat Trix.

Same here. As a kid it always annoyed me how those kids didn't give him any cereal. The one that really got me more was the "Got Milk?" commercial where the rabbit finally got the cereal and he was finally alone in his house to finally eat them with no mean kids around and right as he was about to eat them, he realizes that he has no milk! That one was pretty hard for me as a kid 😂
At least he finally got a break in his last commercial appearance.
Same here. To be honest, I hope the police help the poor guy. Heck, if I were him, I would call the Kids Next Door help the poor guy. Heck, I think the Sailor Scouts can help him.
He actually did! There was a vote casted whether he should get some of the cereal or not and the majority of people said yes so they made a commercial where they gave him a bowl and he was so happy, it was honestly adorable

2:01 Look, I know he's just a cartoon and all, but man I feel like I'm gonna cry. There's something especially sad about the fact it's such an old commercial---the fact this has gone on for so long. He looks and sounds so sad...and I don't like to see innocent characters be sad.
Which is seemingly why the writers eventually tweaked the narrative formula. Seeing those earliest ads for the first time via this retrospective, the Rabbit simply asked for some cereal and the kids selfishly refused. Later by introducing the disguise element, the Rabbit is using "deception" to obtain the breakfast cereal. He's no longer so "innocent" and thus the kids' refusal comes across as "punishment" for the rabbit's lying and in some cases outright "theft" of the product. Arguably, it makes the kids' actions a tad more justified. Buy, definitely, in those oldest commercials, the kids were needlessly selfish.
On a tangent, I would not be surprised if a parody of those ads exist in which the kids finally relent and grudgingly share the breakfast food with the Rabbit, only for him to turn violently ill because all the artificial additives upset his delicate lapine digestive system. As the Rabbit is puking out his guts, the kids explain, "See?! We kept telling you, WARNING you, that Trix are for kids! Your lil' bunny bowels just can't handle human food! We were trying to protect you, silly Rabbit!!!"

Just had an idea for a Trix commercial for some reason, so here it is.
Its The Trix rabbit’s birthday today, but he’s totally forgotten about his birthday since he’s spent most of his life just trying to get a single box of Trix.
He’s at his house watching TV, he then sees a Trix Commercial, but there’s no lightbulb, no idea on how to get that Trix. He spins the “How to get that Trix” idea wheel, but he’s already done all of them. He decides to go outside, maybe that’ll give him an idea?
“SURPRISE!” Everyone shouts, welcome the Trix Rabbit to his birthday party
A kid comes over to the Trix Rabbit, holding a box of Trix
“I thought Trix were for kids?” says the Trix Rabbit
“Silly Rabbit, Trix are for everyone!” says the kid, handing him the box of Trix
And that’s it for the commercial.

I always loved the Rabbit as a kid, I hope he's in a better galaxy with all the Trix he can eat.
Yknow, its easy to say " He should just cut his loses and move on" when you've eaten said product, but when your cruelly deprived of something..its gonna rattle your cage!
You know, I love Big G's cereal mascots, but you gotta admit, they're weird once you get to think about it. They certainly sell you on how great their cereals are. You got the rabbit (who has his face on the box, no less) obsessed with eating his cereal, the Cuckoo bird that tries NOT to be obsessed with his cereal, the Leprechaun chased by kids obsessed with his cereal, the Bee that tries to get folks obsessed with his cereal, and living pieces of cereal that cannibalize off each other.
I also don't mind that they reverted Trix back to the fruit shapes instead of their round cornball original version, but I HATE that the box says "Classic Trix" when that's obviously not the case.
I get that. It's a gimmick. It's a "Not 4 Moms" type deal, but he's on the box of cereal in his OWN commercials. They won't give him the cereal when his face is on the box in the actual commercial. I can't claim to have seen every commercial, but how come that's never brought up?
The 'cannibalizing cereal' used to belong to the Captain Crunch cereal. ^^
You forgot to mention cookie crisps. I remember the mascot of that cereal was a dog with sunglasses, then they changed it to a wolf. They both howled cookie crisps. Also I’m not sure about this, but the Cinnamon Toast Crunch used to have a different mascot as well.
@@Hyper_Drud Cookie Crisp had a series of mascots. First was a wizard for some reason, his name was Cookie Jarvis or something to that extent. Then there was the Cookie Crook and the Cookie Cop, which introduced Chip the dog as his accomplice that always gave them away with that Coooooooookie Crisp howl. Then they dumped both the Crook and Cop and took away Chip's burglar outfit. Then the dumb wolf. AS for Cinnamon Toast Crunch, it used to be three bakers, then just one baker, and then ripping off the Minions/Rabbids with the "Cinnemoji" characters. I could have lived my entire life not knowing that's what they're called.

I' hope you do a Cinnamon Toast Crunch episode. Everyone talks about the current day mascot but the real mystery was the three chefs that were its predecessor. for most of my childhood three grown cartoon men in Chef uniforms danced about and sang the praises of said toast crunch. They were entertaining and also on the box. Till it happened. One day there was only one it was Wendel. He was the slightly chubby comic relief of the trio. I remember telling my mom that they were gone but i had no proof. they were gone from the breakfast aisle as fast as they were off of the television. Were they dead. What did Wendel do to them? Did he eat them?. If Cinnamon Toast Crunch is so set now on the graphic cannibalization of its own mascot that makes me think it was always that way. A cereal so good that the mascots have no choice hut to consume themselves till the next tasty champion takes their place.
Oh god. It must have been heart breaking.
As someone who was born in 2004, I think I vaguely remember the chefs for the cinnamon toast crunch cereal. Also remember the original mascot for those cookies cereal (I forgot the name) and (this one isn't really cereal related but just came to my mind) remember those Pop-Tarts commercials where people would try to eat them? Some of them were very brutal.

The first trix rabbit commercial makes me think of a seasme street short. Also can't they just give him the benifit of the doubt and assume he's a child rabbit? I mean, that would make sense.

This is great, i always felt bad for the rabbit. Stealing was bad, but give the rabbit a bowl of cereal. The only thing I've seen from the trix the rabbit, in the past few years was that Family guy cutaway scene .
Actually, the mascot I've seen the most (recent TV) is Tony the tiger.
I always thought it was unfair that the rabbit couldn't get Trix. It got on my nerves that he would even basically let the kids take the Trix away from him (note the irony when the girl in the one commercial says how when she grows up she will have a whole house full of Trix. But then she will be an ADULT, so maybe Trix won't be for her then, either).
Meatcanyon should make a Trix episode where he gets his revenge on the kids with an axe, similar in fashion to Jack Torrance in The Shining. That would spark me with joy.

The best Trix ad ever is the Got Milk? ad where he disguises himself as a human and loses it when he finally gets the cereal, but but forgets he's out of milk.

It was Domino's, but yeah, the Noid is good times.
For a long time the character was retired because some guy who shared the same name tried to shoot up a Pizza Hut, but recently I've been seeing commercials featuring the noid.
Having to wear a human costume just to buy a box of cereal is the Rabbit's Joker moment
Being a foreigner I never saw these commercials as a kid, but being the weird kid I was I can Imagine that he could have been my only furry and mascot crush, along with that I would have made stories with drawing illustrations about me giving my bowl of trix for him.
The last bit with the rabbit crying unironically made me tear up a bit, probably because I had a lot of dreams as a kid of me bawling my eyes out at something that was unfair.
I voted in the 1991 poll! (And of course, I voted "yes.") I always had sympathy for him, and I just wanted to see him get his cereal.

I remember always feeling bad for that rabbit, but as soon as those color changing spoons came out, I was like "Mmm....maybe they're right about steeling the cereal." (I had the orange spoon that turned pink in cold milk) Nowadays, I do feel bad for him again.
I also remember liking the pink and blue yogurt best, and getting jealous of the kids who bought school lunch, who got the yogurt, because my mom never let me have the yogurt.
I want to see a commercial where the Trix Rabbit, already having admitted to defeat, is working at a grocery store when all of a sudden the kids who caused him trouble are now grown up and, regretful for their actions, decide to give him dozens of Trix boxes.
The Rabbit is finally relieved. "I'm retiring!", he says. As the screen fades to black, a new slogan appears:
"Trix are just colored Kix."
I like to think that Trixie is out there enjoying his Trix cereal out there in the Milky Way and beyond.

Never in my life have I felt such pain for cartoon character. I'm British so am unfamiliar with advertising but I feel close to tears watching this? I believe but I forget is name there is a figure in Greek mythology who suffers the same gruelling torment as our white lagamorph friend.
I believe you're referring to Tantalus, whose name is the basis for the word "tantalizing" to refer to the act of tormenting someone by depriving them of something they want but cannot have.
This video actually made me cry by triggering trauma of aspirations being stomped on.

Seeing him eat the cereal is so nice. I honestly didn't know he ever got to have some.
I used to make the joke "silly kids trix are for rabbits.", because I genuinely felt bad. I was like 6 or 7.
I think the ending is reasonable... The Rabbit is only just beginning to do what Lucky The Leprecaun has already been doing for decades! Saying "screw you!" To them damned greedy kids and living his life on the run from them, eternally clutching his bounty as the covetous kids have all these years.

We don't have Trix in Finland, but we do have Disney cartoons. As I kid, I always felt sorry for Humphrey the Bear. All he got to eat was scraps from a nearby garbage can, and the premise for the shorts was usually him trying to get real food, usually by stealing from Donald Duck. Be it fish, honey, or Donald's picnic basket, he failed each time due to bad luck.

I always felt sorry for him, even when I was a kid. I hated those mid-to-late 90s Trix commercials even more because they would feature him bringing the Trix (cereal or yogurt) to the kids to cheer them up, then politely ask for a taste, only for them to say no. Actually, the WORST commercial was the grocery store one: he bought and paid for a box, but the kids just rushed in and stole it. I wanted to beat those kids with a metal rod after I saw that.

In that one Commercial of trix yogurt when he caught the biggest trix yogurt, it turned out to be a giant Trix yogurt elephant I think this was a sponsor for film "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2".

I was a kid in the 1980s and early 1990s, and I remember the 1991 commercial in which the Rabbit disguised himself as a kid to enter a bike race, with the prize being a silver bowl of Trix. The Rabbit won the race, but his helmet flew off as he crossed the finish line, revealing his true identity. The two men in charge of the race disagreed, with one arguing that the Rabbit was disqualified as he wasn't really a kid and the other arguing that the Rabbit should get the Trix anyway, as he had won the race. One mail-in voting campaign later, the kids voted "yes" and, for the only time in my childhood, there was a commercial in which the Rabbit got to eat Trix, with a heart-warming scene showing the happy, smiling Rabbit holding the empty silver bowl...

The Trix Rabbit reminds me of Team Rocket and the children remind of Brock, Misty, and Ash.
