I made a typo in this video. The distance to the GH6’s sensor plane when the lidar is mounted to the hot shoe is 65mm, not 56mm. Also, if anyone is concerned about the few shots where I’m out of focus while zooming: that’s due to an issue with the parfocality of my lens and has nothing to do with the Focus Pro. If anything, it’s exactly the accuracy of the LiDAR autofocus that brings out any issues with the parfocality of a lens.

I believe the Preston Lightranger uses a similar system capable of AF in the dark (if that's what you are in to) - it is much more focussed on manual focus assist however, not on AF, and the 'focus bars' system the LR has shows it's intention to simply show the Focus Puller where their focus is, not take the job of focussing out of their hands. I know DJI have their own manual assist focus 'waveform' but the promo only mentions it being compatible with DJI wireless system. If it can't feed into existing stuff on set it rather limits its ability to compete with the higher end gear. Mind you the Preston system is almost $30k... so this is a fraction of the cost.
Fair point about (the lack of) compatibility with other systems. But like you said: it’s a fraction of the cost of the system you mentioned. Thanks for watching!

great video, no one else has showcased this with a Panasonic camera and with the DJI website not saying it was compatible I was getting a bit concerned Panasonic had been forgotten about
Excellent video & Sebastian congrats on the co-lab with DJI! Glad you tested on a GH6. Question; how do I set up my system where the focus puller can pull focus using a large monitor (Latency due to a large screen monitor) and not just on that tiny screen on the device? I don't need the focus puller walking with the set with the camera operator while recording. $2K USD, that is a lot of cash. I have a DJI RS2Pro and I don't use it because It is just too hard to learn and use. My son borrowed it and thought it was too difficult to use also. I don't want to spend $2K for another toy to sit on the shelf.
Thanks! Latency is an issue with budget gear. in this video I was using a wireless video transmission system from Shimbol (there’s a review on my channel). And it’s a great ‘budget’ system, but not for pulling focus; too much latency. So if you need low latency transmission the best option is the dji wireless system or teradek. Any other budget wireless system that I know of has too much latency for proper remote focus pulling. It probably takes a few more years to get ultra low latency in cheaper devices 😞
@@RedFrameTech I was talking about latency from the camera to a big screen to be used by the focus puller. I want to park him/her in a corner out of the way off set.

Did you try the lidar with haze? No one talk about this but it seems that lidar focus systems do not work with haze, which should be a big stopper for using this system for narrative work and some commercials …..
You’re correct. Haze is problematic for lidar autofocus. But I think the reason no one’s talking about that (and the reason I didn’t mention it either) is that I wouldn’t trust any autofocus system in an environment with haze. MF only for me in those cases, which works fantastic on Focus Pro as well
Not a real solution unfortunately. The lens needs to be basically perfectly parfocal for it to work well. I wish dji would add the possibility to add several calibration points/focal lengths. I think that would solve most issues with zoom lenses. I passed this om to dji. Thanks for watching!
