How many of you can downshift into the first gear? One of the most important mods I forgot to mention is the driving skill, people often ignore it but the truth is that especially a manual transmission car is as fast as you are capable of driving it. I still smile and enjoy those moments when I am approaching a corner fast and heel toe downshift from 6th to 2nd or even first so I can accelerate out of the curve as fast as I can. So think about that next time you absolutely need a blow off valve on a stock car)
@@derekgardin1512 that's true, I mostly find myself downshifting in first while in heavy traffic. The trick with the first gear is that It's pretty short, and heel toe was the only way I was able to do it smoothly.
@@derekgardin1512 for that same reason, the blow off valve is so overused. And I am aware that it's everyone's personal choice to do what they want with their car.
I just pullled my transmission out for mountune to rebuild it for me with the brass/carbon synchros and Quaife LSD. Can’t wait to to get it back together
So what is it you love about the small compact sport cars? I think they are or can be quick and nimble. I have a buddy and ALL he loves are the compact sport cars.
Yes, you said it right: they are quick and nimble they are also light, which makes it fun to throw them in corners. They don't have much power, but all of the power they have is usable on street. The main downfall of the FWD ones is the understeer. A good differential and tire solves it in dry conditions, but wet can be a problem.
@@ArtDrivenRoads much wider and much more progressive. I get full torque till like 6000rpm ish. Really changed the whole feel of the car. roughly 50hp+
I agree, car was much more responsive and it felt like the work the engine was doing was getting to the wheels better, protune by JST performance was my first mod after installing step colder spark plugs and a cold air intake. When I first bought the car I raced my coworkers stock 370z, we basically tied, we couldn't tell who won because neck and neck, and after the tune I beat him by a car and a half
That's true, and I've been thinking about getting one multiple times. But I ended up passing on it because outside of track events or autocross, I do not push the engine to redline very often, And although I do feel loss of power and heat soak during summer, it's not that big of a deal for me to make the change)
If you monitored the charge air temp...its pretty alarming what the stock intercooler does with normal driving....these engines are very prone to LSPI which usually pops a ringland when it happens...literally the BEST first mod you can do to one of these cars is a proper intercooler, not so much the performance but overall health of the motor
This thing doesn't rotate when lifting off throttle (because FWD). This the biggest reason why I don't want to pour much money into it. There are things I can do to improve that, but still. I'm saving for something cool anyway). And yes! the exhaust installation was quite a process 😂
@@johnboy2436 haha, I'm not looking at making it faster which would be easy. What bothers me is that I can only rotate it under throttle in dry condition. Otherwise I still understeer even with the LSD
@@ArtDrivenRoads Weird that you understeer. I track my ST weekly and im flat out like a pycopath pushing it to its limits. Iv never really understeered its always oversteer.. What tyres are you using?
@@johnboy2436 It is understeer in wet conditions mostly. On dry pavement, with proper load on the front axle when cornering, there is no understeer. And as you are saying, when pushing higher speeds in turns the ST will actually rotate nicely with a bit of oversteer. What I was saying earlier is that the car rotates only when applying throttle VS when letting off throttle. But that's just the nature of the car and it's up to the driver to work around those things and get the best out of a FWD car. I run the factory Eagle F1 tires which are good enough for street driving which I do mostly. Have you stiffened the rear end to make it more neutral and add oversteer?
To be honest, at some point I was considering doing a lot of modifications to the car. But since I decided that I am going to buy another car, spending a lot of money that won't bring value, when selling it, seems unreasonable to me.

Downshift to first? Unless your coming to a stop at the apex, I have never found the need to go to first.
Second, although they do provide some advantage, a blow off valve is more added for the cool sound than improving the driving in most people's cases.

The tune was the biggest and best mod for me.
How did the torque curve changed with the tune compared to stock? I would consider a tune only if it made the power band wider and more progressive.

A lot of it is a matter of personal taste. There is a lot of interest for modifying these cars considering how big the aftermarket is. lol
