    The ST is a beast from a roll. That small turbo spools fast and builds torque so quick its ridiculously easy to reach double digit speeds when passing on the freeway. I think it surprises a lot of cars. However, I will say that triple digit speeds really do FEEL like triple digit speeds...this car is not really designed for high speed runs from an aerodynamic and stability perspective despite the top speed being over 150mph.
    One of my favorite parts about the ST is that 99% of people easily dismiss it as “just a focus”. Little do they know....haha

      LoL. You must be used to riding a lawn mower under 125 hp or older pre 2017 honda civics with under 150 hp if you think the foc st is even slightly brisk. LoL. Heck even the new base honda civic lx with its paltry 1.5L turbo gives a focus st a run for the money from 0 to 100 mph. Seriously 6.2 to 6.4 sec is ssssllooowwww in the world after 2016. All german turbo 4's from bmw will blast to 60 mph in 5.7 sec in the base 3 series. Even a heavy 530i with the base 248 hp turbo 4 blasts to 60 in 5.5 sec. The Audi A4 with 220 hp does 0-60 5.4 sec. The old Hyundai Genny 2.0L turbo of 2014/15 with its 274 hp did 5.6 sec. Those all equal or best a stg 3 fbo focus st to 60 mph. The problem is Ford and their overrating of power since 1990 in their performance vehicles. And they use 93/94 octane. Nobody else uses above 89/91 for their specs.

      @@mhautovlgs6957 Cringe. Focus ST is FWD with inadequate torque control and cant effectively lay down its power in 1st gear without suspension/engine mount mods. It has nothing to do with ford overatting power. 0-62 is such a poor indicator of performance unless you like doing the whole traffic light grand prix thing.
      FK8 Type R FWD is 5.8 to 62....by your logic "Even a heavy 530i with the base 248 hp turbo 4 blasts to 60 in 5.5 sec" does that make it faster than the FK8? LOL no.

    I took one of these cars for a test drive the other day. I'm coming from a miata... so take that into perspective. I drove with the dealer guy and hit maybe 130? for sure in mexico. Long story short I bought the car the next day after mechanical checks and have been in love since!!!

    Totally agree with your thoughts on the suspension. It is NOT low and would look better if it was, at least slightly lower, but the setup is so perfect I wouldn't want to mess it up. I won't touch it until I start to feel it losing it's magic.

    Honestly just got surprised by a ned Flanders lookin dude in one of these which is why I'm here. I'm in a bolt on LS1 fbody and wasnt expecting the guy to have anything for me. I was rev matchin a down shift to go around someone and he happened to be passing right as I did and assumed I was barking at him I guess, cause I noticed he started accelerating up past like 80 so I paced him.
    He hit it so I did without downshifting taching about 3500 or so out of the powerband, but didnt expect to need too.
    I realized I wasnt pulling him in till I got into 4th at 100ish. Get up beside him and its ned Flanders giving me a thumbs up. Once I get in front, I try to get him to line up but he keeps following so I hit it in 3rd at 65ish and this time i pull away fairly hard but still not as hard as I'd expect on a Ford focus. And it was obvious he hit it with me cause we ran up to 135 and he was only 5 cars or so back

    I've had this conversation with TONS of people. Family, friends, fellow track runners, and yokels in my city attempting to talk crap until I give them the figures and then they're humbled in they're little ricers. My side of things is that this car is fast, but there are plenty of other faster cars, especially where I live (Oxnard aka LA Junior) where we have a huge modding community. The ST though is built for cornering though. I always tell people "It may not beat cars in a 1/4 mile or 0-60, but on a canyon run or track, it'll destroy most out there". I've gotten the car to 140 mph and it pulled the whole time. Love it.

    2013 st3, mountune upgrades...springs, motor mount, exhaust, air filter, resignator delete, and charge pipe. It is exactly what I wanted after owning a 2012 eco chevy cruze 6mt 1.4 turbo with lots of expensive upgrades...this ST stomps my old car easy and is a blast to daily drive, power is there when it's needed and it just does its job like a boss.

    I would say the focus ST is a pretty quick and fast car as well. I bought a used 2013 a few months back now and it is still a ton of fun when I get the chance to really get on it. I had been waiting to purchase a car that would really be fun to modify but honestly this car is so much fun stock that I feel no rush to modify it, even though I did just buy a AWE catback and am currently waiting for that to arrive. The car really does pull hard in 3rd and 4th though, my only trouble is from a dead stop but this is my first manual car so it may just be me still learning. lol Great video though!

I came across your channel after finding out about the Focus ST and I am sold!! I will definitely be purchasing one when I get back home. I have seen most of your videos as well as others driving this car and everyone seems so happy driving them! I can't wait to make this purchase and drive my own ST!! We have some wide open empty highways here in NC. Bone stock 18 i hit 143 and then let out by choice but it was still pulling decently and probably would have hit 150 with a long enough stretch. Around 130-135 is where I felt like it started to struggle a bit but it was still climbing fairly decently. Got a Cobb CAI on the way and will probably add the tuner at some point so I will be curious to see how much it helps. Still on the fence about exhaust. I do a lot of 70-80 mph highway driving and I don't want to hear a drone the whole time. Been enjoying your vids! Maybe we will cross paths one day.

    The ST is a torque monster, so pulls very good in any gear, and the turbo spools fast because it is a twin-scroll design. But out of the box, it is damned quick enough for most mortals. The ST has some drawbacks as a stock car: no limited slip diff but an open diff; poor rear motor mount; poor intercooler. All these drawbacks makes torque steer, wheel hop and overheating of air being sucked in a problem. But, these can be overcome. My ST has a better motor mount, I changed the flywheel and clutch for the Focus RS dual mass flywheel and clutch (much higher torque ratings), an Mfactory helical limited slip diff which has enormously improved braking, traction and dialled out most of the torque steer under acceleration. Added to this, I have changed the air induction and intercooler to much improved solutions, and the car has had a Stage 1 remap. I am now running at 289bhp and 386lb ft of torque on the dynomometer (torque is so high as I have a stage 2 intake and stage 3 intercooler set up). Acceleration is now 0-60 in 5.2 secs. Next is a new catback exhaust, and later a sports cat downpipe and stage 2 remap. Target is 300bhp or just above. Don't want to go further as I have no intention to upgrade the cylinders and conrods to forged, or the turbo.

    Love to have a ST when I can afford it. I live in Norway and taxes on cars are ridiculously high. I have 2015 1.0 Ecoboost Focus Titanium X. 6 speed manual. Not fast but fast for what it is. Drove my '14 ST to 140MPH but past 130 she started to resist and reached 140 before I ran out of road. I'm more impressed that the car was quite composed the whole time, it didn't wiggle or shake or anything hardly felt I was doing more than 80MPH. As for "losing wind", I must report my car does lose wind. I'm going to get that checked but I suspect the car probably needs a tune and a proper intercooler with an aftermarket BOV.

    • @michaelreitz6838
      @michaelreitz6838 6 років тому

      ldisc66 Just so you are aware....an intercooler and BOV gives you no HP at all. BOV just releases the built up air pressure from your turbo when you release the gas. So it's basically just something that makes the air sound and nothing more. The aftermarket intercooler even though doesn't increase HP it is beneficial by keeping your temperature lower when running the car hard. Just a simple tune gives a few HP but unless you have a bunch of upgrades it's nothing significant.

    Ok, the beard is coming in good, iPhone,blah. 155 being fast depends on what your driving. In the ST, it would feel fast, but I've been over 100 a few times in mine and didn't even realize I was going that fast. When I did 155 and faster in Germany driving my 740, it didn't feel fast. It was effortless, it was gliding, I thought I was awesome, till a Porsche passes me like I wasn't even there. Then I realized what fast was.

    • @jeffburt5228
      @jeffburt5228 7 років тому

      Larry Stewart. It's just a different kind of fast. 155 still felt fast in the 740, it just depends on point of view. Going 30 in a go cart feels fast, but 30 isn't that fast.

    It's a nice car, don't get me wrong, but maybe someone can explain to me why my stock '08 Nissan Sentra Spec V has virtually the same 0-60 and 1/4 mile times, based on several reputable sources, in spite of the fact I've only got 200 hp and 180 ft/lbs in a N.A. 2.5 litre engine. My guess is that the Focus is 175 lbs heavier and lacks an LSD and so the Focus is trying to do the one-wheel-squeal more than my car? Or maybe your "sound symposer(tm)" and infotainment screen is slowing you down? Seriously though, what's the deal? Something just doesn't add up.
    And I don't consider either car to be particularly "fast", certainly compared to many other fairly affordable cars like a WRX, or 370z, etc. I'd call the Focus or Spec-V "peppy", but that's about it.

    I bought a 2014 ford focus St and I'll never buy another ford again it had 2 miles on it when I drove off the lot and it's been in the shop more times than I drove it and my 2014 top out at 165mph have the ticket to prove it and as I type this the car is back in the dealer for it's 2 motor week before had the turbo go out that was the four time almost everything on this car has been replaced 2-3 times sad thing is I work at one of the ford truck plants after it is done and I get it back I'm trading it in for a Mitsubishi Evo

      That's a lie. They are governed at 155 mph. Only way you reaching 165 mph is if you have a tune with the governor removed. And if you are pushing it to 165 mph then that's probably why your car stays in the shop. I have a 2017 and absolutely not a single problem out of it.
