While I won’t fault Cherry if they don’t put it in their game, Ubisoft is a giant developer and Cherry is a very small one, that has definitely changed the map marker meta for all games moving forward. Ubisoft has done it with the photo tags in all their assassins creed games since origins. I don’t know why we all just thought it was a photo mode and not a map marker tool before now.
No problem with intending the shade. Ubisoft let a few developers leave the dungeon for a while and stretch their legs. They'll be back in the dungeon in no time making Far Cry: Vaas (Insanity Edition) or something like that.
But far cry blood dragon and far cry 4 were good. Watch dogs 2 wasnt bad either. 3 was mindless fun. People act like ubisoft is al bad cause their games arent GTA levels of hype but they always felt like a copy company or a company that sees others and makes a copy that's just the store brand and still fine. Like zelda vs that zelda like game (immortals rising) they made without weapons breaking and more hand holding. There still a money wise AAA studio putting out B work...and people expect A...even the worst assassins creed is still fine...repetative and glitchy but fine. And dont they own splinter cell? another good game series. Division is fun too. The crew's a creative idea.

As a Prince of Persia fan i hope this does well financially so Ubisoft can further expand on the Prince of Persia franchise. However i am not a big fan of 2D games and currently i am looking forward to the Sands of Time Remake. If that does well we will probably see a Warrior Within remake or a new trilogy.
Considering the glut of bloated open-world games Ubisoft is known for these days, it's a pleasant surprise when they just go all-in on a different style. The art direction and the snappy controls seem like a perfect match.
I thought they DMC-ified the Prince and was super skeptical but this sounds amazing. Ubisoft really is one of the best AAA studios at applying AAA budget and skill to non-AAA game types, I wish they'd do it more often.

So any game type that is traditionally not 3D is either exclusively or almost exclusively represented by the indie or smaller company space these days. So your Beat-em-ups, your side-scrollers, your traditonal Zelda clones, turn--based RPGs, metroidvanias, platformers, roguelites and roguelikes, deckbuilders, tactics, survival crafting games and some of the other genres not known for graphical fidelity games are all more the space of non-AAA game companies these days. There are exceptions of course, like Metroid Dread and this, but that's like 2 in a decade, 3 if you include Ori and the Will of the Wisps after purchase by MS. Even something like Castlevania for instance left behind the 2D space and went 3D.
I wish Ubisoft would do more games like this instead of the constant open world stuff. Would love to see a sequel to Child of Light, and a new Rayman game would be nice too.
Metroidvania fans always tell new players to take notes so they can remember where to use which power but this is the first game that actually let's you take notes without having to go outside the game. More games should let you put your own markers instead of putting markers everywhere.
Plan to give this an honest try… Loved Prince of Persia back in the day with Sands of Time and Warrior Within (didn’t try Two Thrones) on GameCube. And then that one entry on PS3 (the one with Elika). So hoping I enjoy this, even though not 3D like the ones mentioned above
Just know going in that you’re playing a completely different genre. My first time playing a metroidvania I put it down immediately because it didn’t click. Go in with the mindet that this is first and foremost an exploration game. Doors are locked behind abilities that I get by exploring other places. Once you “unlock the first door” the game focus will make sense and it’ll be more fun.
I’m still annoyed that I pre-ordered the sands of time remake over 3 years ago now and still don’t have it. This type of game isn’t my type of thing, but I’m glad people will enjoy it nonetheless.
In some ways the gameplay reminds me of original “god of war” series. Miss that kind of combat and perpective in gameplay. Hopefully they could expand this series in future to play more like the original “god of wars” (more of a 3rd person like in original GOW’s than just in the 2D Metroid-vania kind of style). There are areas in the game that would be nice to explore beyond just the 2D and maybe future iterations will allow us to do that (maybe have some areas in 2.5d style?)

I'm not sure what it wouldn't be suited for besides a mouse & keyboard setup. If you have a controller (handheld or not), this game will play well and why shouldn't it?

I think warrior within also successful game but two thrones might not be upto mark followed by POP 2008 and forgottens sands which are unfortunately not successful as once it could be, but i love forgotten sands PC version though.....

Why is nobody talking about the fact that rumble is broken on the Switch version of The Lost Crown? Whether you are using a pro controller or joy-cons, only the left side of the controller produces any vibration. This is annoying AF. 😡😡😡

Because this came out early, it will get shafted like hifirush. Remember how hyped people were for that coming out good and fresh and come GOTY it got played a fool and renegotiated to somehow being a MID game even when it wasn't. Competition was too high last year when metroid, resident evil, final fantasy, and random indie darlings along with zelda and mario don't auto sweep most cites.

I bought it for just $46. Honestly the game is quality and polished and is around 25 hours playtime. I dont know why people still complain about a $60 price tag when thats present.

It never made the game look awful, people were too focused on the trailer music and main character rather than the actual gameplay that they've been showing so much of throughout all their trailers.

These devs from Ubisoft have been in charge of Ubisofts more artistic games. They made both Rayman games and Valiant Hearts. All were received well.
It looks hella fun, but I won't be buying it until (if) it comes to Steam. Not buying it on the Ubisoft or Epic Games store.

Metroid Dread let you place your own markers and it was a great quality of life change. I love seeing Metroidvanias add improvements to the formula.

The Dahaka was interesting but it didn’t really do much more than artificially extend the gameplay. SoT was so much more impactful.

Warrior Within was very different at the time for a Prince of Persia game, but for me it was fantastic and I loved the dark and adult tone of it.
